PAUL THINKING THOUGHTS Hey Dudes and Dudettes, I hope my words find you well. As I approach the beginning of a new year, I am humbled by the wonderful accomplishments The Forwardian Arts Society has made during 2017. The Forwardian Film Festival, The Cover to Cover Exhibition, The continued publication of our sister magazine, “Forwardian,” and, of course, the publication of “The Forwardian Gazette” that debuted earlier this year are a few of the wonders I encountered throughout the past 12 months. I look forward to being enhanced by the experiences I may have in the coming 12 months. However, these encouraging occurrences pale in comparison to the multitude of art lovers I’ve had the honor to have met. Their demonstrative passion for the aesthetic continues to amaze me and I never fail to feel a bit more enlightened by their uncanny insights. There are also those who have helped put together some of the things The Forwardian Arts Society have shared with the public that encourages me as I look toward all the possibilities of the future. And, last but not least, there are those who attended and partook of the things our fellowship has done which includes those of you who are reading this issue of “The Forwardian Gazette.” Everyone has made everything we did something meaningful. Thank you all for being all you are. Yet, not all of 2017 were shining examples of what The Forwardian Arts Society is or could be to the creative community. We have made some mistakes and we didn’t follow through on some projects that could have express our Encouragement, Support, and Love for the arts and artists in ways that we could and should have. We could have done better. I could have done better. I am sorry and I hope 2018 will see our fellowship grow in its ability and consistency. I invite you to be a part of The Forwardian Arts Society so I and those who are already participating in the fellow ship and its endeavors can learn from your experiences and insights. I will soon propose the formation of a leadership guild that will explore all the things our fellow ship can do to manifest the principles found in our Mission Statement and beyond. I’ll be sharing the information on social media, in emails, on our Website, and in this magazine soon after I finish writing everything up. I hope you’ll consider being a part of this guild as I’m sure your par ticipation will enrich our future. Well, that’s all from me for now. How are you? Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about the publication, The Forwardian Arts Society, or anything at all. I promise to tell you everything. I would make a terrible spy. I look forward to hearing from you soon and I'll keep a good thought for you until then. Going Forwardian with you Paul Adam Smeltz The Forwardian Arts Society WWW.FORWARDIANARTS.ORG

The Meeting of Endings and Beginnings Written by Paul Adam Smeltz The Pocono Arts Council held their Annual Business Meeting for 2017 on Thursday November 30th at The PoconoArts Cultural Center in Stroudsburg, PA. Excited conversations abound prior to the meeting as long time friends and new acquaintances shared their love for the arts while munching on the delicious goodies that were available to enhance the evening. A sizable number of art lovers attended the meeting and their eagerness to learn what the Pocono Arts Council has been doing during the course of the year and the adventures it will embark upon in the coming year made it an informative and enjoyable one. The time for the Annual Business Meeting to begin arrived and the assembly was brought to order by Board of Directors' President, Jeffrey Kash, after some welcoming remarks. A number of reports regarding the group's financial, out reach, and membership situation were given by the Pocono Arts Council's Executive Director, Laura Goss. This was followed by a recognition given to Board Members President Kash and Eileen Noelle who will be leaving the board of directors after 6 years of service as their term expires along with Ms. Goss who is retiring from the position she held for over 25 years at the end of December. The gathering was then introduced to Julie Smith Golin who is the PoconoArts Council’s new Marketing Director and Susan Randall who will serve as the group’s new Executive Director beginning in 2018. Elections were then held in order to re-elect Betsy BuzelliClarke to continue her service in the Pocono Arts Council's Board of Directors in her 2 nd 3 year term and serve as its Vice – President. Elections were then held for new members of The Pocono Arts Council's Board of Directors to serve their 1st 3 year term. The candidates were Thomas O’Connor who will serve as the Board’s Vice – President and Brandon Jones who will serve as their Treasurer. This was followed by some sentiments relating to the arts and the work of the group shared by President Kash and Executive Director, Laura Goss. It was at the conclusion of their statements did the PoconoArts Council’s Administrative Secretary, Tassy Gilbert, take the floor in order to announce the recipients of the PA Partners in the Arts Project Stream Grants. A long list of individuals and groups were shared as several persons came forth to accept their $1000.00 grant and to speak about the wonderful things they do and hope to do throughout the coming years. It was soon after this that the meeting was adjourned.
This provided an opportunity for those who attended to renew their conversations which included topics relating to the information that was shared during the meeting. The opportunity to explore the Pocono Arts Council’s Annual Holiday Store which presented a wide variety of arts and crafts items while offering a special 20% discount to its membership toward purchases made was also embraced after the meeting. The quality and beauty of the work proved to be stunning and will be available for purchase until January 5th. The PoconoArts Council is an organization designed to build the communities of Monroe, Pike, Wayne, Lackawanna, and Luzerne Counties, PA artistically and culturally by providing leadership, service, and education. It does so by offering avenues for artists to display their work through The PoconoArts Cultural Center and other galleries, educational opportunities for those who would like to explore and/or enhance their creative natures, and encouragement to those who seek to express and/or support the arts. The Pocono Arts Council's Board of Directors consists of Betsy BuzelliClarke who serves the Board as its President, Thomas O’Connor who serves the Board as its Vice – President, Brandon Jones who serves the Board as its Treasurer, and Jody Singer who serves the Board as its Secretary. Other members of the Board are Dulic Ridder, Phil Barcafer, Amanda Reiche, Jack Swersie, Sean Turrell, Lori Block, Brandon Reish and Lizann Tepper. The Pocono Arts Council’s Annual Holiday Store will be presented until January 5th. Future exhibitions to take place in The PoconoArts Community Center’s ARTSPACE Gallery in Stroudsburg, PA include their Annual Student Exhibition scheduled to begin in January and will continue through February, their 2nd Annual Art as Spirituality Exhibition scheduled to begin in March, their Earth Speaks IV Exhibition and scheduled to begin in April, and their Annual PoconoArts Members’ Exhibition scheduled to begin in May. The PoconoArts Council will hold two Artists’ Workshops on December 6th for their Earth Speaks IV Exhibition and the deadline for submissions is February 2nd 2018. You’ll be able to learn more about The PoconoArts Community Cultural Center and all it has to offer the creative community by exploring The PoconoArts Council Website at www.poconoarts.org or by calling 570-476-4460.
