JUNE 2018

PAUL THINKING THOUGHTS Hey Dudes and Dudettes, I hope my words find you well. Ah, the month of May was everything it promised to be and more. The beauty of the late Spring weather was only eclipsed by the wonders of the initiations of familiar and new events common this time of year. These included the first meeting to establish a Pocono Center for the Arts, Artists’ Receptions at the Antoine Dutot Gallery and Art Museum in Delaware Water Gap, PA, the Music on Mondays Series in East Stroudsburg, PA, and Music on the Moor which is a new Wednesday night outdoor concert series at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, PA on. June will be even more exciting as the Summer Gazebo Concerts begin at The Presbyterian Church of the Mountain in Delaware Water Gap, PA and the Milford, PA Music Festival will take place throughout the town. You’ll be able to read more about them in this issue of The Forwardian Gazette. We’re getting for The Forwardian Film Bestival we’ll be holding at the Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center in East Stroudsburg, PA the first two Saturdays in June. It’ll be a special presentation of the award winning films from our 2016 and 2017 festival. We’ll begin accepting submissions of original films in June and will continue to do so until August for our 2018 Forwardian Film Festival which will take place at the Antoine Dutot Gallery and Art Museum in Delaware Water Gap, PA from October 12th to the 15th. We’ll soon be putting out the word about how Visual Artists can participate in the festi val’s The Art That Dreams Are made Of II Exhibition and the Silent (But Deadly) Art Auction. I’m working on the prospectus for the exhibition and auction which I hope to complete soon. We’ve begun putting together the nest issue of our Literary and Arts Magazine, “Forwardian” which we plan to have available on line in July. What great work we received. I know I say this with every issue and I know I’m as biased as hell but it’s always true. This issue of Forwardian will be the best, yet. I can’t wait to share it with you. Well, that’s all from me for now. How are you? Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this publication, The Forwardian Arts Society, or anything at all. I promise to tell you everything. I would make a terrible spy. I look forward to hearing from you soon and I'll keep a good thought for you until then. Becoming Centered in the Arts Written by Paul Adam Smeltz The excitement and exuberance that is found within oneself when encountering something wonderfully life enhancing filled the Worthington Ballroom of The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort in Shawnee on Delaware, PA on Thursday May 17th. A large number of art lovers came out to learn of the aspirations of those who have already given so much in service to the creative community through an Introductory Gathering to explore the newly proposed Pocono Center for the Arts. Opportunities to participate in the project were in abundance as sign in sheets for volunteers awaited the signatures of those who sought to become a part of the grand initiative. After a video was shown outlining what the Pocono Center for the Arts can be, the founders and visionaries, Ray “Skip” Scheetz and Richard Spezzano, greeted the members of the assembly in turn while sharing their journeys that led them to the moment that was occurring that evening. It was after their salutations and revelations did Dr. Rodger McFadden, who serves on the Boards of Directors of the Planning Commission and The Conservation District stand before the audience so share his views on what makes a good community and the need for the construction of an Arts Center in the Pocono Region of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He also noted that The Monroe County Open Space Plan (aka Monroe 2020) which was composed in 2001 as an Action Guide to Preserving and Enhancing Monroe County’s Green Infrastructure determined there was a need for an Arts Center to be a part of the area’s future. It was after Dr. McFadden’s thoughtful words did Mr. Spezzano retook the floor. It was at this point did Mr. Spezzano shared the proposed floor plans of the structure. It included spaces for the performing arts to be presented, galleries for art and sculpture to be shown, fully equipped classrooms and studio space for teachers to share their talents with those who aspire to develop their own creativity, office spaces for art groups to utilize, apartments for artists who would participate in their residency programs, and more. Mr. Spezzano also noted the need for more diversity in the local art scene and that is was his desire that the Pocono Center for the Arts would become a welcoming beacon to those who wish to share their unique visions with the public. These sentiments were echoed with great enthusiam by the project’s co-founder Ray “Skip” Scheetz. Mr. Scheetz and Mr. Spezzano then shared a number of ways they hope would bring about the much needed funding to make their dream a reality. One of these ways is through a feature found on the Pocono Center for the Arts’ Website

called, “Pocono Games.” These games are not only a fun way for visitors to the Website to learn more about local businesses and artists but as an opportunity for these entities to share what they have to offer the community. It was after this presentation did the Keynote speaker for the event take his place behind the podium. Stephen DeAngelis is Broadway producer and casting director who has brought about nearly 300 different Broadway concerts at venues in New York and across the United States. He is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and upcoming productions include the New York premiere of the new musical titled, “Unexpected Joy” by Bill Russell and Janet Hood. Mr. DeAngelis’ talk was based on his theatrical experiences and what he perceives could be done to bring about a Renaissance for the local theater community. You can learn more about Stephen DeAngelis by exploring his Website at www.stephendeangeliscasting.com. It was after Mr. DeAngelis’ words concluded did Mr. Scheetz and Mr. Spezzano express their appreciation to all who attended the gathering and shared some parting sentiments that served to inspire the company to share in their meaningful endeavors. This led to numerous conversations and an increased in the activities relating to the number of individuals who sought to affix their names to the sign up sheets. The Pocono Center for the Arts Introductory Gathering proved to be an informative and inspiring evening for those who love the arts with many dreams to be made real and more to be dreamt. The Pocono Center for the Arts is in the process of being developed by its co-founders, Ray “Skip” Scheetz and Richard Spezzano, to become a regionally and nationally recognized Arts Center offering a diverse, innovative collaboration of visual and performing arts, education, community engagement, and personal enrichment that will enliven the Human Spirit of all it encounters. Their immediate goals include establishing panels for Fundraising, Strategic Planning, and to ensure their ongoing financial stability. You’ll be able to learn more about The Pocono Center for the Arts, all it hopes to offer, and how to become involved by exploring their Website at www.poconocenterforthearts.org or their Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/PoconoCenterfortheArts.

THE FORWARDIAN GAZETTE GETUP TO DATE LISTINGS Wow, we’ve covered a lot of things in this issue. However, many things come to us after the magazine is published. So, I created a weekly version of The Forwardian Gazette to keep art lovers, like yourself, well informed about what’s happening in the arts. To receive your copy of The Forwardian Gazette Supplemental, please go to our website and make a donation through our GoFundMe or Paypal Accounts. Those who donate $20 or more will receive the weekly supplement for a year. Those who donate less than $20 will receive the weekly supplement for a month. Those who are unable to donate anything can receive monthly issues of The Forwardian Gazette upon request. All proceeds will benefit the printing of the magazine.

WHO THE FORWARDIAN ARE WE? “We share the belief that the arts can inspire our creative dreams to become magnificent worlds of our deepest experiences reminding us who we really are. Therefore, our fellowship shares a desire to support, encourage, and explore the artistic experiences of creative individuals and groups as they go forward toward their dreams.” Mission Statement

JUNE 2018

BE A PART OF THE FORWARDIAN GAZETTE BECOME A WRITER FOR THE FORWARDIAN GAZETTE You are invited to share Articles relating accounts of art related events and functions you have encountered in your journeys in the creative realms. Please email your words and photographs.

JOIN OUR MANAGERIAL TEAM The Forwardian Gazette would like to invite you to join our Managerial team. We have openings in all positions including Editor in Chief, Feature Editor, Marketing Director, Distribution Manager, and Graphic Designer. Note: Although it is hoped that The Forwardian Gazette will one day turn enough of a profit to provide a prosperous income for all who participate in its manifestation, all positions are presently performed on a volunteer basis. However, we are more than willing to express our appreciation by giving hugs.

As our mission statement suggests, The Forwardian Arts Society is a fellowship for people who love the arts. We define ourselves as a fellowship as compared to an organization because organization suggests some form of hierarchy exists where some members would have the right (or assume to have the right) to tell other member what to do. On the other hand, a fellowship suggests every member is equal to one another and each member’s conduct in The Forwardian Arts Society is only governed by their love for the arts.

We at the Forwardian Gazette would love to share your news with our readers. Please feel free to email us a press release about what you’re doing. The submission deadline for our July 2018 Issue is June 15th. We look forward to hearing from you.

We invite everyone who love the arts to be a part of The Forwardian Arts Society. It’s free with the only requirements there are to be included is to have a love for the arts and a desire to be a part of The Forwardian Arts Society.

Please feel free to contact us through our Website at www.forwardianarts.org for more information.

SHARE YOUR ENDEAVORS WITH OUR READERS

The Forwardian Arts Society Friend and Facilitator, Paul (aka The Forwardian Dude), travels all around experiencing a multitude of adventures throughout the artistic community. You can see him almost anywhere there's an artists' reception being held, a play being presented, or a concert being performed with his camera and note pad. He posts his articles and reviews along with the photographs he takes on his Social Networks. He says, "The reason I do this is twofold. One is to help promote the artist and the venue through these sites and second to help people who can't attend these events for whatever reason to still partake of them."
