PAUL THINKING THOUGHTS Hey Dudes and Dudettes, I hope my words find you well. What a month April has been for The Forwardian Arts Society and the arts in general. The rapid fluctuating changes in weather and temperatures reflected to numerous activities that took place during the month as well as those planned for the future. Many such plans are very much in evidence as May will see the first of many meetings to establish a Pocono Center for the Arts which promises to be a home for the many members local art community and their endeavors. Artists’ Receptions at the Antoine Dutot Gallery and Art Museum in Delaware Water Gap, PA and the Music on Mondays Series in East Stroudsburg, PA will begin in May as will a new outdoor concert series begin at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, PA on Wednesday nights. Wow. The Forwardian Arts Society has been busy as well. We’re gearing up for The Forwardian Film Bestival we’ll be holding at the Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center in June and a special presentation of the award winning films of our 2017 festival during the Stroudsburg Art Festival in July which we’ll also show during the Black Bear Film Festival that takes place from October 19th to the 21st. We’re also looking forward our own 2018 Forwardian Film Festival which will take place again at the Antoine Dutot Gallery and Art Museum in Delaware Water Gap, PA from October 12th to the 15th. We’ll be holding our The Art That Dreams Are made Of II Exhibition, an Art Auction, and, of course, we’ll be showing some truly wonderful films. We’ll begin officially accepting submissions of original films in June and I’ll be sharing the prospectus for the exhibition and auction soon. In the meantime, I’m happy to reports we’ve already received some entries that already indicate this will year’s festival will be a truly great one. I can’t wait. I’m very excited about all this and I look forward to sharing some wonderful work created by some truly outstanding artists and filmmakers with you. We’ll also begin putting together the nest issue of our Literary and Arts Magazine, “Forwardian” which we plan to have available on line in July. We’ve receive a lot of new work that is incredible, but we could always welcome more to consider including in this issue. We’re also holding our Cover to Cover Competition to determine what images will be on the front and back covers of our upcoming issue The deadline for submissions for both the magazine and the competition is May 15 th so hurry, hurry, hurry as we’re eager to experience your talents. Yet, a great sadness touched our hearts during the month of April. It was reported in the news that beloved Jazz Artist, Bob Dorough, passed away at the age of 94. Many know him through the songs he written and performed for schoolhouse rock that appeared between the Saturday morning cartoons on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) television network while many others knew him thought the many performances he gave during the Celebration of the Arts (COTA) Festivals and other venues throughout the years. There are also those who remember him being available to share his extraordinary talents to benefit charitable organizations free of charge. Yet, everyone who were fortunate enough to meet him will always remember his smile, positive approach to life, and his ability to bring something good into your day. He was and still re mains a blessing and we invite you to share in our thoughts for family and intimate friends who loved him. Well, that’s all from me for now. How are you? Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this publication, The Forwardian Arts Society, or anything at all. I promise to tell you everything. I would make a terrible spy. I look forward to hearing from you soon and I'll keep a good thought for you until then. Going Forwardian with you Paul Adam Smeltz The Forwardian Arts Society

The Day The Earth Got Art Written by Paul Adam Smeltz It was a beautiful day to be out and about on Saturday April 21st. It was a day to honor the Earth and the boroughs of Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg, PA celebrated Earth Day a day early with art, music, poetry, and talks on the issues facing our planet. The day offered art lovers a full array of creative expressions at various locations to be enjoyed while being enriched by the day’s wonders. The day began for some at The Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center (PC3) in East Stroudsburg, PA who held an Artist's Reception for their From A Blank Canvas Exhibition featuring the work of James Chesnick. Abstract renderings filled the walls of the theater enticing each member of the gathering to enter their realms in order to explore the intricacies of the patterns their imagination contributed to the designs they encountered. The connective flow of the images throughout the PC3 gallery allowed each viewer to be swept away in their forms while experiencing the fullness of their emotional, psychological, and aesthetic properties. It was as the reception came to a close did many in the company of art lovers venture across the inter-borough bridge to experience more of what the day offered. The sidewalks of Stroudsburg, PA offered visual treats to the eyes of those who meandered among them. Chalk drawings of leaves, nuts, and other inhabitants of the natural floral environment were placed upon the walkways of the town. These led each traveler on a journey that would take them to the PoconoArts Cultural Center where some truly wonderful experiences awaited them. The PoconoArts Council’s Earth Speaks IV: A Juried Exhibition on the Climate Crisis was presented in the Center’s ARTSPACE Gallery and included images and sculptures that expressed a deep and abiding love for the planet. The work in the exhibition served as aesthetic mediators from which the Earth would relay its story and share numerous concerns related to its safety and health with the many who visited the venue. Awards were presented to artists whose works were deemed exceptional and profoundly in keeping with the environmental theme of the exhibit. The Juror for the Exhibition was Raymond Barnes who is a Professor of Painting and Drawing at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. The recipients were Maria Ferreris who received the Juror’s Choice Award for her work titled, “After Maria,” April Rimpo who received the Kay and Girard Lichty Climate Crisis Award for the works titled, “Worth The Price? I, II, III,” Angelina Kimmins who received the ARTSPACE

Gallery Student Award for her work titled, “Mother Earth,” Brooke Jana who received the Otto Grever Printmaking Award for her work titled, “Crude-Feathered Friends of the Deepwater Horizon,” Buff McAllister who received the 2-D Award for the piece titled, “Maze,” Clifton Prokop who received the 3-D Award for the piece titled, “TLV Silence of the Frogs,” Laurinda Faye Rubin who received the Photography Award for her piece titled, “Tomato Soup,” and Shari Bodofsky who received the Origins Gallery’s Student Award for her piece titled, “Portrait of Discarded Plastic.” A chalk drawing contest took place along the street outside the center and the artists who participated were presented with awards as well. Congratulatory sentiments were shared with the winners as those received recognition for the endeavors stood by their work in order to answer questions about it and to be photogenic. In conjunction with The PoconoArts Council’s Earth Speaks IV: A Juried Exhibition on the Climate Crisis being presented in the PoconoArts Cultural Center’s ARTSPACE Gallery, the center’s Origins Gallery held an Artists’ Reception for their Gifts of the Earth Exhibition. The work upon its walls expressed the deep appreciation for all this world provides including the many wonders captured in the images that were on display. The artists’ Receptions at the PoconoArts Cultural Center concluded as the final item of the Origins Gallery’s ArtRaffle was presented to the person holding their lucky ticket. However, numerous activities took place throughout the day in front of the PoconoArts Cultural Center. Poetry was shared by Mike Wetmore and company, music was performed by Renard Cohen, Woodrow, and flutist Delwin Fiddler Jr. who is a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe from Standing Rock, ND. Mr. Fiddler also talked about the environment which enhanced the music he presented. Other talks on the environment were rendered by environmentalist Darryl Speicher and oceanographer and ESU professor James Hunt. The words and music shared proved to be deeply meaningful and inspired many to care more profoundly for and about the Earth. The Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center (PC3) is a three screen movie theater located in East Stroudsburg PA was a vaudeville theater and opera house built in 1884 known as “The Academy of Music” until it was converted into a movie theater in 1913. Their current From A Blank Canvas Exhibition will be on display until May 19 th. Their next Exhibition is yet to be announced. The next events occurring at The PC3 will be Christopher Wheeldon’s production of The Winter’s Tale on May 5th and 6th, Walk to the Water: An Evening with Delwin Fiddler, Jr. on May 20th, the films in the Back to the Future Trilogy from June 1st until the 7th, and The Forwardian Film Bestival on June 2nd and 9th. JOIN OUR MANAGERIAL TEAM The Forwardian Gazette would like to invite you to join our Managerial team. We have openings in all positions including Editor in Chief, Feature Editor, Marketing Director, Distribution Manager, and Graphic Designer.

WHO THE FORWARDIAN ARE WE? “We share the belief that the arts can inspire our creative dreams to become magnificent worlds of our deepest experiences reminding us who we really are. Therefore, our fellowship shares a desire to support, encourage, and explore the artistic experiences of creative individuals and groups as they go forward toward their dreams.” Mission Statement As our mission statement suggests, The Forwardian Arts Society is a fellowship for people who love the arts. We define ourselves as a fellowship as compared to an organization because organization suggests some form of hierarchy exists where some members would have the right (or assume to have the right) to tell other member what to do. On the other hand, a fellowship suggests every member is equal to one another and each member’s conduct in The Forwardian Arts Society is only governed by their love for the arts. We invite everyone who love the arts to be a part of The Forwardian Arts Society. It’s free with the only requirements there are to be included is to have a love for the arts and a desire to be a part of The Forwardian Arts Society. The Forwardian Arts Society Friend and Facilitator, Paul (aka The Forwardian Dude), travels all around experiencing a multitude of adventures throughout the artistic community. You can see him almost anywhere there's an artists' reception being held, a play being presented, or a concert being performed with his camera and note pad. He posts his articles and reviews along with the photographs he takes on his Social Networks. He says, "The reason I do this is twofold. One is to help promote the artist and the venue through these sites and second to help people who can't attend these events for whatever reason to still partake of them."

Note: Although it is hoped that The Forwardian Gazette will one day turn enough of a profit to provide a prosperous income for all who participate in its manifestation, all positions are presently performed on a volunteer basis. However, we are more than willing to express our appreciation by giving hugs.

SHARE YOUR ENDEAVORS WITH OUR READERS We at the Forwardian Gazette would love to share your news with our readers. Please feel free to email us a press release about what you’re doing.
