PAUL THINKING THOUGHTS Hey Dudes and Dudettes, I hope my words find you well. Wow, what a Summer it is shaping up to be. I, personally, have become overwhelmed by all the events that took place during the recent months and the season isn’t over, yet. However, some things did conclude their Summer series in August. Two of them were the Gazebo Concerts at The Presbyterian Church of the Mountain in Delaware Water Gap, PA and the Music in the Moor Series held at The Stroudsmoor Country Inn’s pavilion in Stroudsburg, PA. Both of these series were wonder ways to spend a Summer’s afternoon and early evenings and I look forward to seeing their return in 2019 as I’m sure those of you who attended the concerts are, too. There is still a great deal of activity left in the Summer Season as we begin to approach the Fall. There will be festivals, art shows, concerts, and more to celebrate as we share our love for the arts with one another. Some of these sharings include the Stroudfest event which offers a day of art, music, and other delights throughout the day in Stroudsburg, PA on Saturday September 1st. There is also the Celebration of the Arts Jazz Festival in Delaware Water Gap, PA happening the following weekend and there will be another festival at the same spot the weekend after that presenting Folk Music. Hot Damn!!! Plus, there’s a whole lot more as you can see by checking out our listings for the coming months in this magazine. On the Forwardian front, I’m still preparing for our 2018 Forwardian Film Festival which will take place at the Antoine Dutot Gallery and Art Museum in Delaware Water Gap, PA from October 12 th to the 15th. We have received over 3000 submissions from filmmakers wanting to present their work in our endeavor. We received about 20 films in total submissions for our previous festivals so you could say I’m a bit overwhelmed by their number. I guess the festival staff and I should begin looking at them soon. Smiles. Anyways, this brings me to the point of asking you to help us select the films we’ll be able to show in the time we have allotted to us. So, if you would like to help select films to be shown during our festival, let me know. I’ll be posting links to them on line along with a synopsis, if the filmmaker provided one, on line soon. I’ll send you a link to where they are. All you need is to have a love for film and a computer (or another device) to watch the films I’ll be posting on. Thank you in advance. Well, that’s all from me for now. How are you? Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this publication, The Forwardian Arts Society, or anything at all. I promise to tell you everything. I would make a terrible spy. I look forward to hearing from you soon and I'll keep a good thought for you until then. Bears In The Rain. Just….. Written by Paul Adam Smeltz A grouping of wet bears braved the rains that touched The Community House Lawn in Milford, PA on Saturday August 11th awaited the arrival of those hearty souls who would attend The 19th Annual Black Bear Film Festival’s Annual Artful Bears Community Debut/Picnic. A multitude of umbrellas moved along the statues of bears that were created by local artists in honor of the grand film festival. Each bear was decorated with the artist’s imagination whose range of topics extended from the deep recesses of the soul to the whimsical and was sponsored by a local business or community center in the Milford, PA area where the statute would be placed after the Picnic. These bears and the places they would reside included one titled, “A Bear Called Skip” was created by Barbara, Frank, and Amy Eisenberg and was sponsored by The Key Food Marketplace. “Lady Lavendar” was created by Marcia K. Monaco and was sponsored by Jorgenson’s at The Dimmick Inn. “Mandela Bear” was created by Tracy Dentico and was sponsored by Davis R. Chant Realtors. “Theo the Therapy Bear” was created and sponsored by Progressive Health. “Baby Bear” was created by eight-year-old Zoey Marquis and was sponsored by Shakespeare and Assocs. Bookstore and Gallery. “Flower Power” and created by Holly Makitra and was sponsored by The Jive Bar. “Holmes/Torn” was created by Kathleen Marinaccio and was sponsored by Katrina Antiques. “Constellations” was created by The school age class of the Green Tree Learning Center, Inc led by Cera Alber and was sponsored by The Hotel Fauchere and the Litzenberger Foundation. “Hollywood Bear” was created by The students of the Delaware Valley High School led by Ava Nienstadt and Jore Bagdonas and was sponsored by Milford Chrysler. “Dele-Bear River” was created by The Delaware Highlands Conservancy and was sponsored by Walmart. “Love Garden” was created by Lauryn de Leeuw and was sponsored by The Matamoras Welcome Center. The weather did little to dampen the cinematic spirits of the attendees as they explored the statues while cup cakes, cookies, and other treats were lovingly served by the wonderful volunteer festival staff. The music for the day was performed by guitarist Ernie Kara (570-269-4422) whose wide variety of soothing songs created an inner radiance within each listener that out shown the dark clouds that accumulated throughout the skies. All this plus the enchanting conversations that would make any day brighter filled the afternoon. The Black Bear Film Festival is a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading joy and building community through the art of film. They do this by presenting exceptional inde-

pendent films to the public, hold various events to celebrate the art and craft of film making, and partner with schools to inspire students to become filmmakers and aficionados of film. BBFF is run by volunteers and is sustained by members, sponsors, advertisers, and donors. The 19 th Annual Black Bear Film Festival will be held October 19 th to the 21st with screenings, workshops, and salons presented in various locations. You can learn more about The 18th Annual Black Bear Film Festival by exploring their Website at www.blackbearfilm.com.
