During this time we will join the local street parades (“Sambas de Rua”), where samba bands move along the neighborhoods singing and dancing. A real experience of what Samba means for native “Cariocas”. — Students are encouraged to start editing their photos for a portfolio review with Sven Creutzmann the next morning. —

This is an opportunity to experience their social reality. — Helicopter ride for aerial sightseeing of Zona Sul (approximately 10 minutes; three passengers per helicopter). — Visit to Sugarloaf and watch sunset from the top level. — Evening show and dinner at Plataforma Samba show.

Early breakfast at the hotel. — Schooner cruise to the islands and fishing communities around Paraty (8am departure). — Transfer back to Rio de Janeiro’s airport (GIG) around noon. — Fly to Salvador (SSA) after 5pm and airport transfer to hotel.

Participants should have some experience travelling to foreign countries and be in conditions to spend some hours up and walking during the carnival. Born behind the Iron Curtain in East Berlin, he moved with his parents to West Germany during the early 70's, amidst the cold war. He first received education as advertising photographer, but soon went on to cover news for Reuters for seven years. He is now a reportage photographer, working on assignment for Geo, Stern, and other major magazines. He has published a book on Cuba and has been the only German photographer accredited permanently on the island over the past 18 years.
