Summer Is Upon Us at FOX Sports South

Before officially moving into the summer months, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible run by the Memphis Grizzlies. We were happy to be along for the ride as the franchise made its first appearance in the Western Conference finals and FOX Sports South and SportSouth were able to bring fans pre- and postgame Grizzlies LIVE shows. With the weather heating up, so will our Braves coverage. In our first season as the team’s Jeff Genthner Senior Vice President, exclusive local television partner, FOX Sports South and SportSouth will televise 26 games General Manager throughout June. We are very proud of the FOX Sports South staff for winning two of our three nominations at this year’s College Sports Media Awards. In a very competitive field, Kevin Allison, Kyle Payne, Zach Whipple, David Solanas, Keith Wetzler, Dan Greene, Jeff Gammage and Terry Allen won for their work on Under the Lights: Southern Miss Baseball. Charles Frederick and Adam Shumaker earned a trophy for the promotional campaign behind The NEW College Football Show: Bates + Bowden. We are also proud of our Southeast EMMY Award winners; FOX Sports South and SportSouth received 13 nominations across 10 categories and picked up six trophies (see winners below).

FOX Sports South, SportSouth Receive Six Southeast Regional EMMY Nominations FOX Sports South and SportSouth received 13 Emmy Nominations in 10 categories and won six EMMY Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Southeast Chapter. Last year, FOX Sports South and SportSouth received 12 nominations and won five awards. Grizzlies, City of Memphis Celebrate Playoff Run The Memphis Grizzlies exciting playoff run came to an end on Monday, May 27 at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs in the franchise’s first Western Conference Finals appearance. During their historic playoff run, the city of Memphis came together in celebrating the Grizzlies. FOX Sports South and SportSouth were also there with the team, airing special playoff editions of Grizzlies LIVE throughout the postseason run.

AutoZone corporate offices also displays “Believe Memphis” banners.

Presbyterian Day School painted life-size cutouts of the Grizzlies starting five and Head Coach Lionel Hollins to greet students as they enter the building.

Charlotte Bobcats Apply For Name Change During a special press conference on May 21, Bobcats Sports & Entertainment Chairman Michael Jordan announced that the organization has submitted an application to change the team’s name to the Charlotte Hornets starting with the 2014-15 season. The historical significance of the Hornets moniker dates back to the American Revolution, when the city of Charlotte’s resistance led British General Charles Cornwallis to refer to the local militia members as “a veritable nest of hornets.” The city’s previous NBA team used the name from 1988-2002.

Nashville Predators, DEX Imaging & Mailing Present $14,500 to Area Charities The Nashville Predators teamed with DEX Imaging & Mailing in May to present $14,500 to 10 area charities as part of the DEX Score & Win program, an annual initiative rewarding goals and wins by the Predators, while lending financial support to community service organizations. In eight seasons, the program has generated more than $220,000 for local organizations. Recipients for the 2012-13 season: Boy Scouts of America, Middle Tennessee Council Christian Community Services Education Equal Opportunity Group Lifecare Family Services Lighthouse Christian School Nashville Children’s Theatre Pearl Point Cancer Support Rocketown Special Kids, Inc. Atlanta Dream Return to FOX Sports South, SportSouth in 2013 The Atlanta Dream return to FOX Sports South and SportSouth with 20 televised games during the 2013 WNBA season. Dream fans will have many opportunities to watch their team this season, with the next game being a Friday night matchup against the Seattle Storm on June 14 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Bob Rathbun and LaChina Robinson will return for their sixth season together as the broadcast team for all Atlanta Dream games on FOX Sports South and SportSouth. Rathbun has also been the FOX Sports South and SportSouth play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Hawks for the past 17 seasons. Robinson, who was a four-year starter at Wake Forest University, also serves as a national women’s college basketball analyst. 2013 Atlanta Dream Remaining TV Schedule
