Summer May Be Over, But it is Heating Up at FOX Sports South

September may be the most exciting month of 2013 here at FOX Sports South, FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports Tennessee and SportSouth. Not only are the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Dream closing in on playoff berths, the college football season is underway, and we are preparing for the NBA, NHL and college basketball seasons, which are right around the corner. And speaking of the Braves, they were the first Major League Baseball team to top 80 wins this season, and they hold a large lead in the National League East.

Being in the South, we love talking about college football all year round. Now that the season is finally here, we have fans covered every week with SEC Gridiron LIVE, Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET, and The NEW College Football Show with Bates and Bowden, Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. ET, both on FOX Sports South. With both shows fans will gain critical insight to college football in the Southeast and around the country in preparation for the weekend’s games on our networks. This past month saw the birth of not one but two new networks as FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 took to the airwaves. These networks will not only change the FOX Sports landscape, but the entire industry as a whole. Make sure to tune in to one of the many great shows and live events airing daily this month.

Atlanta Braves Prepare for Postseason Run The 2013 Major League Baseball regular season is winding down with the Atlanta Braves holding a comfortable lead in the National League East. FOX Sports South and SportSouth will continue to bring fans all of the exciting action as the Braves look to claim a playoff spot for the 14th time in the last 19 years and first division crown since 2005.

In September, FOX Sports South and SportSouth will air all 27 remaining regular season games. Braves fans will get to follow third baseman Chris Johnson as he makes a run at the National League batting title and All-Star Craig Kimbrel as he attempts to set a new team record for saves in a season.

Summer Fun at the Inaugural FOX Sports South Tailgate at Piedmont Park FOX Sports South staff and family members gathered at Piedmont Park for a day of fun, food and games at the inaugural “FOX Sports South Tailgate� on August 2nd. A bake-off, farthest kick competition and friendly whiffle ball game highlighted the day at the park.

ACC All Access Returns to FOX Sports South in 2013 ACC All Access has returned for another exciting season on FOX Sports South. Each Wednesday, host Jenn Hildreth takes viewers inside the huddles and on the sidelines, capturing behind-the-scenes footage and real-life experiences of ACC student-athletes and coaches. During the premiere episode, FOX Sports South followed ACC Commissioner John Swofford around New York City, where he threw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium and welcomed Notre Dame, Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the conference. The show also featured Scott Shafer, who has taken over as head coach of Syracuse football this season.

College Football Coverage Ramps Up in September The FOX Sports South ACC crew will roll in to South Carolina for a meeting between South Carolina State and the Clemson Tigers on September 7 in the first of 14 live games on FOX Sports South and SportSouth during the month. Behind the Scenes: The Making of the Lady Cats Calendar FOX Sports South traveled to Charlotte to go behind-the-scenes of the 2013-14 Lady Cats calendar shoot. The theme of this year’s calendar is physical fitness and the shoot included weightlifting, yoga, basketball, boxing, dance and healthy cooking scenes. The Making of the Lady Cats Calendar will debut this fall on FOX Sports South, and the LadyCats will make their debut when the Bobcats tip off at home on Friday, November 1 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Nashville Predators Promoting Mouth Guard Safety Did you know that three million teeth are knocked out in youth sporting events each year? The Nashville Predators have joined Delta Dental to create a video promoting the importance of wearing mouth guards during contact sports to help curb that trend. The public service announcement also explains the three different types of mouth guards available: http://youtu.be/wcBSRv4_gW4 The Nashville Predators created a public service announcement about mouth guard safety.

According to the American Dental Association, roughly 10-20 percent of all sports-related injuries are maxillofacial injuries. Additionally, the National Youth Sports Foundation for Safety says an athlete is 60 times more likely to experience damage to the teeth when not wearing a protective mouth guard.

Howell Named Vice President and General Sales Manager at FOX Sports South Brandon Howell, a 13 year veteran of FOX Sports, has been promoted to Vice President and General Sales Manager of the four FOX Sports regional networks headquartered in Atlanta: FOX Sports South, FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports Tennessee, and SportSouth. “Brandon has been an integral part of the FOX Sports sales team for over 13 years and brings proven advertising sales experience and leadership to this position,” said Jeff Genthner, Senior Vice President and General Manager of FOX Sports South/Carolinas/ Tennessee and SportSouth. “During his tenure as Local Sales Manager for the past nine years, Brandon has led an outstanding team of account executives and client service coordinators through the network’s rapid growth, which saw the launch of three additional regional sports networks.” Howell joined the organization in 2000 as an Account Executive with Home Team Sports, formerly National Advertising Partners. In 2004, Howell was promoted to the FOX Sports South Local Sales Manager role, where he oversaw local and regional sales covering the Southeastern territory. He also served a vital role in FOX Sports South’s acquisition of Turner South in 2006, and the network’s acquisition of 45 Atlanta Braves broadcasts in 2013, which were previously on Peachtree TV.
