WHAT DOES “PUBLIC SPACE” MEANS?

A public space is a physical or abstract place, characterized by a collective social use where everyone has the right to move or talk.

It’s the space for the community and as soit’s distinguished from the private space which is reserved for personal use, intimacy and private atmosphere.

Public space in human societies, especially urban areas, is represented in all areas of transition and meeting areas that are used by all citizens, such as streets, squares, parks, train stations; public buildings such as libraries, hospitals or others.

With referring to modern history can be observed that, during the last centuries, with the passing of the absolutist regimes and the affirmation of democracy, the concept of public space has widened to include every public space, physical or virtual, in which you exercise the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, of information and political action.
