Spring is in the air, which means sunshine, warm air, and the always-exciting end to the soccer season. And what a season it has been for Juventus and all of the Juventini around the globe! The bianconeri have given us all a reason to spend Sunday mornings enthusiastically glued to Serie A action. And let's be honest: soccer is much more fun when the team you love is playing really well. Now, they say distance makes the heart grow fonder, and I've certainly experienced that while editing zeb from across the continent. This magazine has been a connecting force for me, strengthening my ties with my Juventus Club thousands of miles away. It has been an opportunity for me to stay in touch, remain active, and give back to the community I appreciate so much. Thank you!

Getting to know you Members share a bit about themselves and their love for Juventus

Claudia Pace My earliest memory of Italian soccer was being awakened by the screams from the familyroom early on Sunday mornings where my parents and my older sister would be watching the game. Needless to say, I had no choice but to become immersed in the world of soccer at an early age. I have been a member for the last five years, and have participated in many Club events, including Miss Juventus and have been an editor for zeb magazine since its inception. Forza Juve! 4

It’s such an exciting year for our Club. It’s our Ten Year Anniversary and we have so many things to be proud of: so many wonderful people we have met, so many successful events that have taken place, trips we’ve made, games we’ve seen, idols that we’ve met. It makes my heart flutter just thinking of them and all the experiences that we’ve shared together. This is not only at a Club level but even at a team level. Our beloved Juventus not only triumphs due to its diligent work on the field and its history of great tradition, but also due to the support of all its fans around the world and from right here in Toronto. Together, we have dreamed, worked, experienced, cried out in joy. All of these events brought us together, with our

team and with each other, giving us memories that we will always share. No other person or team can take that away from us. But our work does not stop here. We plan on continuing this tradition of successful team and personal endevours. There are no limits to what Juventus can do and so there should be no limits to what we can do as fans and as a Club. We must continue to support each other: join us on our trips to Torino to see the team, send your submissions in to zeb, suggest events for us to participate in together, watch the games with us, come to our scheduled events! These things help us to foster bonds with each other and with our team through shared experiences.

We plan on making the next ten years of this Club as memorable as the last ten. Come out and show your support! We cannot do it without you! Tiziana Pace President

Saturday, January 21, 2012 Saturday, January 28, 2012 The Juventus Club DOC Toronto invited all its members to the Club Headquarters for a champagne toast to the New Year! Fortunately, the New Year isn’t all that juventini have to toast about right now with Juventus so high in the standings.

Every Weekend

Though he has retired from the Board of Directors, long time member and one of the Club’s founders, Vincenzo Carlucci has not stopped working on behalf of our Club. On Saturday, January 28th, he was asked to speak on La Giostra dei Gol on that afternoon’s upcoming Juventus vs Udinese game. Thank you Vince for always making sure that we are present in the soccer community.

The Juventus Club DOC Toronto has a wonderful Club Headquarters for members to come to and watch game games. There is a lot of socializing, which may or may not include some yelling and, sometimes, deep contemplation. Come out and enjoy the game with us!

Tanti auguri, mito Zoff!

zeb 3.3-3.4

La Vecchia Signora has found her prince Nicknamed “il principino, Claudio Marchisio is in top form this season, captivating the hearts, souls and imaginations of bianconero fans and the soccer community alike. His ability to persistently play fast-paced soccer and to read the game effectively is evident each time he takes to the field. Though he is predominantly right-footed, he has a powerful and precise shot with both feet. His clinical finishing has already made the difference for both his club and country in numerous games. Marchisio was born on January 19, 1986 in Chieri Torino. His career began with a call-up to train by Fabio Capello and, to this day, Claudio continues to show nothing but promise. In December, he was recognized by his fans around the world as they voted him Player of the Month on the juventus.com website. On May 17, 2011 Juventus announced that Marchisio has signed for the team for another five years. Mario Riossi

Captain, My Captain Alessandro Del Piero: the great “trequartista”-- a creative attacker, a goal-scorer, and a free-kick specialist. Del Piero is the man Pelé named as one of the 125 greatest living footballers. His versatility on the field is one of his greatest strengths, allowing him to play in multiple attacking positions. His technique, precise passing, and impeccable instinct enables him to serve as a playmaker behind the forwards, as he always manages to find the back of the net. Del Piero transferred to Juventus in 1993 and has been there ever since--he is truly a force to be admired. Whether behind the attacking force of Vialli and Ravanelli, working creatively with Zidane and Inzaghi, or in concert with Nedved and Trezeguet, Del Piero has been a constant threat in the area of his opponents. His exceptional talents are also notable off the field, where he has won awards in Italy for “gentlemanly conduct” as well as the "Golden Foot" award, which honours character as well as playing ability. Del Piero has contributed enormously to Juventus’ success in Italy and the rest of the world. If talk of his retirement is to be taken truthfully, Del Piero’s presence in the world of soccer will be greatly missed. Tiziana Pace

The leader of the pack Antonio Conte said that he fulfilled a dream by becoming the coach of Juventus. A revered former Juventus player himself, Conte is loved by the bianconeri fans: he is a Juventus legend of the highest order. His strong character and offensive outlook help him know what the club requires to be great. Hopefully he'll get the time that hasn't been afforded to anyone since 2006. "I say with sincerity and honesty, everything I got I earned with the sweat and commitment. I have never enjoyed special favours, I learned the full meaning of the word sacrifice. I think the fans appreciate my ways both on and off the field, with me they have always been really fantastic. In the hardest times they kept me close, showing warmth and friendliness." Conte, 2003. Tiziana Pace

Remembering Times Passed He scored the world’s most emotion winning-goal in the 2006 World Cup in Germany against Germany. He had the nerves of steel required to convert the last winning penalty against France in the final to win that Cup. He has not played a game yet this season for Conte’s Juventus as either a starter or a substitute. Grosso has become the world’s very best sideliner. This offensive-minded defender has always had a nack for imposing his creativity on his opponents. He provides great passes, draws penalties and scores huge goals. Perhaps Conte is keeping him as his secret weapon. Grosso is a huge component to a star-studded bench. Mario Riossi

The answer for the Viola? Amauri began with Juventus in 2008 with all the promise in the world, finding the back of the net on many occasions. His start with Juventus even landed him a spot on the Italian National Team. Yet, just as quickly, he began a freefall, coming quickly out of favour. His downward spiral took place alongside that of Diego, and neither of them could seem to turn things around in what proved to be the worse season Juventus has known in recent history. Fiorentina’s Sporting Director has indicated that the team has reached an agreement and that the striker would be a welcome addition to fill the void left by Gilardino’s departure. Amauri does have great skill and, perhaps, if put in a leading role, he can help the viola reach the form that the club has struggled to find since the Prandelli days. Mario Riossi

Toni to Dubai World Cup champion and former capocanoniere Luca Toni is set to move to Al Nasr, the UAE club coached by Walter Zenga. More recently offers have been made to Cagliari, Parma and Siena for the goal-scorer, yet no clubs in Italy could afford the high salary he demanded. But for Al Nasr, not only is the high rice tag for Toni not an issue, but it is believed that special arrangements are being made to make the move more comfortable and luxurious. Toni has great instinct and ability to find the back of the net. Bayern Munich made sure of this with Ribery always providing the best passes the poacher could ask for, which brought Toni much success, going on to win many scoring titles with the German club. We wish Luca much luck as we know that he has plenty more to offer the game and his next club. He will be missed. Mario Riossi

Inzaghi in the future? Most people remember how well Pippo Inzaghi played for Juventus, his national team and, until his injury, could always be counted on to show up on the score sheet for Milan. Inzaghi brings experience to the table and, if nothing else, is any opponent’s scariest super-sub, used to break a dead-lock or seal a victory. Recently Milan has not been playing him and there is speculation that he may even end up back at Juventus. Who knows what his future may hold. Mario Riossi

Villa, next for Juve? The most likely acquisition post Del Piero is not Xavi, Iniesta, or even Messi. It is more likely to be David Villa. This is not only because he is the most welldecorated player in the game today, winning everything a player could dream of, but Villa possesses many of the qualities that Del Piero also possesses. He is like a magnet to defenders, taking at least two of them to mark him properly. His opponents often become mesmerized by his fancy footwork which helps him to leave openings for his teammates. They simply wait for a brilliant back heal or a through ball, and often easily put it away. The reason that he is a more likely option to fill the void left by Del Piero is that he has largely been overshadowed by the world’s very best soccer player and three-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi. As long as he remains hugely underrated, Villa is a very affordable option for Juve. Mario Riossi 28

Braised Rabbit Ingredients: 1 fresh rabbit cut in pieces 2 carrots peeled and chopped 2 celery ribs cleaned and chopped 4 shallots or 1 onion finely diced 10-12 cremini mushrooms, cut in half 1 red bell pepper coarsely chopped 1 small bunch each of thyme, sage and rosemary 3 cloves of garlic, smashed 1 cup of white wine 4 cups quick rabbit stock (rabbit bones with 1 celery stalk, 1 carrot, 1 bay leave and 1 small onion...bring to a boil and simmer for 40 mins) All purpose flour for dredging Salt and pepper, to taste Olive oil for frying 2 Boiled and roasted chestnuts 2 Tbsp heavy cream Truffle oil to finish

Directions: This recipe can be served over pasta, rice or in this case, creamy polenta. Once the rabbit has been cut into pieces, add the rabbit head, bones, celery, carrot, onion and bay leave to 8 cups of water. Bring to a boil then simmer for 40 minutes. Add salt and pepper to the rabbit pieces and dredge in flour. Place in a hot frying pan with olive oil. Sautee until golden brown on both sides (1 to 2 minutes per side). Remove rabbit and place in a roasting pan. To the hot frying pan add the celery, carrots, shallots, red pepper, garlic, mushrooms and herbs. SautĂŠ on medium high heat for 3 minutes making sure to toss well. Add the white wine to the pan to deglaze then pour over rabbit in roasting pan. Pour the 4 cups of rabbit stock in the roasting pan and cover tightly with lid or aluminum foil. Place roasting pan in a pre heated 350 F oven and bake for 1.5 hours. Once cooked, remove rabbit pieces and set aside. Strain the sauce into a pot, add cream and bring to a boil. Reduce sauce by half. Plate the rabbit with the creamy polenta, garnish with some of the braised carrot, mushrooms and red pepper and pour some of the reduced sauce on top. To finish, drizzle dish with some truffle oil and sprinkle with shaved or thinly sliced chestnuts and serve. submitted by: Anthony Ramundi info@lacantinacatering.com 416-302-8411

This issue’s inductee to zeb magazine’s Wall of Fame: Dino Zoff, for so many reasons that we had to write a separate article about it (see page 12).

"Dino was Italy's most important player in 1982. He was the one who truly represented the team. He was an example to all of us, myself more than anyone." Paolo Rossi "At the end of the Brazil match, he came over to give me a kiss on the cheek, without saying a single word. For me, that fleeting moment was the most intense of the entire World Cup." Enzo Bearzot "Dino always protected me as if I were his little brother." Gaetano Scirea
