TheRussellvilleHighSchool FutureBusinessLeadersof AmericaChapterhadthree studentsrecentlycompete attheAlabamaFBLAState Competition.“Theydidan excellentjobrepresenting RHS,”saidtheclub’ssponsor, Dr.AnnaKayHolland. TheAlabamaFBLAState LeadershipProgramprovides leadershiptraininginorder todevelopcompetent,selfassuredbusinessleadersand

companyofbiggerhigh schoolsandschools withmoreresources andadvantagesthanwe have,butwe’restillable toperformatorabove thatlevel,”Maddensaid. “Beingtheonlyhigh schoolinthetri-county areatomakethislistis atrueaccomplishment. I’mproudforRHSand forourdistrictasa whole.Eachteacher ateachschoolplaysa

provideavenueforbusiness competitions.OnApril 17-19,morethan2,000high schoolstudentsattendedthis conferenceandcompetedin morethan30differentbusiness areas. WillMorgan,sonofTom andLauraMorgan,placedfirst inthestateinPublicPolicy andAdvocacy.NatalieNichols, daughterofDonnieandDiann Nichols,placedfourthinthe stateinBusinessCalculations. Bothstudentsreceivedan invitationtotheFBLANational Competition.

Nofolks,Idonothavea newpetinmyhousehold, butrestassuredthislittle sweetiehasalovinghome. Herhumancaretakerwas graciousenoughtoletme enjoyhereight-week-old puppywhilesheworked onaprojectattheevent. Ah,houseplants –orinthiscase,office plants.Myfriendand co-workerrecentlygave meatinysucculentin anadorablehedgehog planter.Determinednot tokillit,Itriedtomake suretowaterit,butnot toomuch.Afewweeks later,Icommentedto herhowpleasedIwasto havemanagedtokeepit wateredcorrectly,onlyto bemetwithanamused laugh–firsthers,thenmy

own,asIlearneditwas,in fact,fake.Well,wehaveto laughatourselves,don’t we?Itreallyistheperfect gift,aslongasIkeepit somewhereit’ssurenot tobeknockedoff. Weallgetbusyand canfeelthere’slittleto notimefor“frivolity andmirth,”butfinding thingswecanappreciate inthemidstofthechaos reallymakesitallso mucheasier.Inthisarea, becontentedlyeasyto amuseratherthanhard toplease.Noteveryday isperfectbyanymeans, but“perfectmoments” dopresentthemselves, sodon’tforgettotakea littletimealongtheway toenjoywhatisrightin frontofyou.
