“Since akid,it’ssomething thatI’vereallywantedtodo,” Askewsaidaboutplayingcollegebaseball.“It’sjust adream cometrue.”
Bothplayerswere abig partofsuccessfulteamsduringtheirtime at RHS, and Askewhasmademanymemories,including “competing withmybrotherseveryday andcreating abond.”Askew willbe reunitingwithShayden Romans, a2023Russellville graduatewhoisalreadyonthe baseballteamatCalhoun.“I reallywantedtogothejuco route,and Igettostayathome. Shaydengoesthere,anditwill befun,”Askewsaid. Vandiverhasalsobeen workinghardanddreaming aboutplayingcollegebaseball for alongtime.“Playingthe gameat averyyoungage,it’s somethingthatyoualways hopetogetthechancefor,and tofinallydoit,itkindafeels realnow,”hesaid.
“SomeofthefavoritememoriesthatI’vemadeherehappenedduring andalsoafter practiceandgoing tohang outwith friendsaftergames, enjoyingthe Wandjusttaking it all in.” UTSouthern wasformerly known as MartinMethodist Collegeandisnow apublic

“I likethe town alot,” Vandiver said.“It’skinda like Russellville, andit’s aquiet town. Ilikeitpeaceful,andI’m looking forwardtothat.”
Whileplaying at RHS, the playerswereledbyhead coach Jess Smithand the coachingstaff.“It’sbeena joycoaching bothofthem the lasttwoyears,”Smithsaid. “Ultimately,themessage that Iwanttosayaboutthese guys is theimpactthatthey makeas peopleandasteammates.”
