Thefinalproduction oftheseasonwillbe “HonkyTonkHissy Fit,”byJones,Hope andWooten,April24-27, 2025,andwillbedirected byScottyKennedy. Themembershipdrivewill beginsoonformembers, patronsandsponsors. HistoricRoxyTheatrecelebrates75years

TheHistoricRoxy Theatrewasbuiltin 1949andopenedonSept. 15.Itwasthecenterof entertainmentanda landmarkforRussellville andFranklinCounty formanyyears.As movietheatresaround thecountryfellvictim totelevisionand otherformsofhome entertainment,theRoxy Theatrewasclosed in1976.Itremained unoccupieduntilit wasdonatedtothe FranklinCountyArts andHumanitiesCouncil, Inc.,anon-profit organization,byalocal businessmanonDec.31, 1987.
Thisvolunteer organization,which meetstherequirements ofthegeneralgrant guidelines,hasworked continuallyfor37years torestoreandmaintain thishistoricicon.The Roxyistheonlyone ofitskindinAlabama andonlytwoothersin Tennessee.Thestructure isoriginalwithveryfew changes—theneonlights insidearetheoriginal andstillworkafter75 years.AcrosstheSouth andthroughoutthe country,communities havepitchedintorestore movietheatresforuse asperformingarts centersandcommunity meetingplaces.
Popularandsuccessful renovationshavebeen accomplishedwiththe “Bama”inTuscaloosa, the“Paramount” inMontgomery,the “Princess”inDecatur andthe“Ritz”in Sheffield.These communitiesknowthat culturaldevelopmentisa cornerstoneforeconomic renewal.Russellvilleis honoredtobeonthis elitelistofcommunities thathaverecognized theimportanceofthese culturalcenters.
TheFranklinCounty Arts&Humanities Council,Inc.ismadeup ofvolunteerswhodonate theirtimetomakeour communitybetterfor futuregenerationsand topreservehistorythat ispertinenttoourcity andcounty.Wedonot receiveanyfundingfrom anysourceotherthan ourownfundraisers.
Thisyearmarksthe 75th yearoftheRoxy Theatre.Itisthedesire oftheFranklinCounty ArtsandHumanities Counciltopresent quality,wholesome programsthatthe entirefamilycanenjoy inourcommunity. Itisalsothemission oftheArtsCouncilto protectandpreserve historicalsiteslikethe HistoricRoxyTheatre.
