Meier Honored for Years of Service Edward Meier has been in the cattle business for most of his life.

He has always loved show cattle, especially the breeding cattle. He loved the Gillespie County Fair shows because it gave a “good ol’ county fair” feeling.

He showed cattle from 1962 until 2015. He also ran the Lyndon B. Johnson National Park Ranch for 37 years.

The committees were always kind and helpful, and the grounds were great, which made for great shows. For a few years in the 80’s and 90’s, the shows would have as many cattle as up in Alpine.

He has served on the Cattle Committee here at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds for 30 years. Back in the 1980s, he would put on steer show clinics for the 4-H and FFA kids so they would gain better knowledge on the best ways to show their cattle. There were sometimes up to 40 kids who would attend.

The Gillespie County Fair Grounds would like to thank Edward Meier and his family for all the time they spent out here at the fair grounds.
