safety meets comfort There’s hardly anything more tempting than venturing from the beaten path, yet at the same time hardly anything more dangerous. We need to be perfectly prepared for hiking or riding the backcountry. Our new Ontop range unites the safety of a stateof-the-art avalanche airbag system with the exceptional fit and carry comfort of our Alpine Back System. We joined forces with airbag pioneer ABS®, whose Twinbag System provides a significantly greater chance of surviving avalanches. Every single one of our Ontops is deployed in laboratory tests. An avalanche airbag pack is an important life saving tool, but it should also serve as a great backcountry pack. The system, of course, adds extra weight, which makes a perfectly fitting, comfortable pack even more important. Our legendary Alpine Back System does just that – and a whole lot more. Plus we also offer two female specific versions for the ladies who want to dive into deep powder. Note: Wearing an airbag system does NOT guarantee that you will survive an avalanche. Always get educated and always bring your avalanche safety equipment. You should also perform a test

welcome
It’s probably the best that winter holds for us: soft snow, safety check, skin up. You start sweating, your heart is pounding – and what makes it race even faster: knowing that soon you will hit the pristine powder. It’s breathtaking – over and over again! release when you first get your Ontop to get familiar with the processes! And when in doubt, pick the safe route down! There are plenty of powder runs to come. Promise! Of course, we have also worked on our other alpine specialists. Our Rise appears in a new, sleek design, which underlines its straightforward, no-frills approach. Neatly organized and extremely flexible, it’s ideal even on multi-day trips. Further, our Pace family enjoys a fresh makeover and gets two new additions on top: the fully featured, spacious Pace 36 now crowns the range of technical alpine packs. It accommodates all the gear even on long, equipment intense trips, yet weighs less than 1 kg. Our fresh packs provide all you need for truly enjoying all the pleasures that winter holds for us – and heaven will take care of the powdery pleasure.
Enjoy a great and safe winter season! Your Deuter Team

ABS® Avalanche AirBag
The ABS® avalanche airbag is a sophisticated and tested system – trust in 25 years avalanche expertise!
Highest survival rate
German engineering
Out of 262 persons with activated ABS® avalanche airbag, 97% survived, and 84% were uninjured. (Source: SLF, known and documented avalanche accidents with ABS® avalanche airbags, August 2010)
The original ABS® self-rescue system – developed, manufactured and tested by avalanche experts since 1985. Survival made in Germany.
Double safety Even if one of the two ABS® TwinBags is damaged, there is usually sufficient remaining volume to prevent total burial. For ABS, this extensive double safety is an important practical requirement.
Dynamic lift The wide bearing surface due to laterally placed ABS® TwinBags stabilizes the body and increases the lift precisely in the critical avalanche runout zone.
Pyrotechnicpneumatic activation A quick pull with little force and the system inflates irreversibly at the speed of sound. Within a few moments, the ABS® TwinBags inflate. Without compromise, quickly and with absolute certainty.
See and flee
Maximum visibility
The ABS® TwinBag system can be activated without hesitation at the first sign of an avalanche. Nothing hinders the attempt to escape and nothing blocks the view or restricts movement, but you are protected right from the start.
In 97% of all documented avalanche accidents with activated airbags, the TwinBags were visible on the surface. The timeconsuming, highly stressful and error-prone search in difficult terrain is avoided. Help can come immediately to your rescue.
Easy pack and use Simple and safe to pack and quickly ready again for operation – after recommended training activation or in an emergency.

Staff Retention: The Core of our Quality www.fairwear.org

Our products are known for their superior quality. Once sewn together "a Deuter" more or less lasts a lifetime. The foundation of Deuter’s consistent top standard is our expert team of experienced and highly skilled workers. A backpack, after all, is a very complex piece of equipment‌ It is made up of more than 210 single pieces and it demands great skill to sew them together. At our partner Duke in Vietnam the sewers start after their training with simple parts such as shoulder straps. And step by step the work is getting more demanding and detailed.

freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining

safe and healthy working conditions legally binding employment relationship
Therefore our production partners, of course, take a deep interest in encouraging long-term staff retention by ensuring good working conditions. For Deuter this has always been a key criterion for building a partnership. And since joining the Fair Wear Foundation in 2011 the practices are also monitored and guaranteed by an independent, non-profit organisation. As a member of the FWF we comply with the eight guiding principles of the Code of Labour Practices, which is regularly verified in so called factory audits. Currently one issue has drawn worldwide attention: safe and healthy working conditions (the 7th labour standard in the FWF Code). The horrific factory fires and collapses in Bangladesh in April 2013, claiming the lives of hundreds of workers, have raised awareness. None of our products are manufactured in Bangladesh, yet we were repeatedly approached with questions on how we ensure fire protection and general safety at work. We were all deeply shocked by the Bangladesh tragedy and the reports from the victims. And although the working conditions and the laws in Vietnam cannot be compared to Bangladesh, those issues have top priority.
Safety training at our production partner Duke in Vietnam.
In its November 2012 audit the FWF recommended the inspection of the electrical system. In January 2013 all electronic devices and wires were systematically checked and fixed. All appliances, from the sewing machines to the junction boxes to the generators, are regularly monitored and retained. Besides the obligatory annual fire practices, our partner Duke also performs safety trainings for the entire staff – not an easy task with over 4.000 employees! We are very proud to work with such a competent partner that is committed to tackle complex tasks such as work safety, working hours and wages. A commitment confirmed by the FWF: we achieved full marks in the annual Brand Performance report, which monitored the production facilities as well as the implementation of recommended improvements!
Cr

In their audits the FWF safety work experts check the production facility, the fire safety documents, as well as the licenses and inspection certificates for the building and all devices. Further, the staff is interviewed on how to act in case of fire emergency or about the recent fire drills.

The thermo fleece layers are arranged in a shingle construction overlapping up to three times for maximum insulation.
Opposing diagonal trapezoid pockets and additional chambers on the side prevent the down from shifting. By avoiding cold spots, this construction can guarantee fantastic warmth insulation.
Elastic seam construction allows a comfortable, body-hugging fit without feeling restricted. Thus the bag warms up quicker and still offers fantastic freedom of movement for a good night's sleep.

sleep thanks to good freedom of movement up quicker due to the sleeping bags snug fit, which means less air to warm up
Thanks to its internal and external elastic chamber seams, this high end synthetic sleeping bag expands up to 25% in width – for more freedom of movement when tossing and turning. At the same time the Exosphere hugs the body closely, thus avoiding unnecessary air pockets that require extra energy to keep warm all night.

sleep thanks to good freedom of movement up quicker due to the linings snug fit, which means less air to warm up
Our down sleeping bags with maximum insulating qualities and freedom of movement. The lining is constructed with elastic seams allowing to expand up to 25% in width. Avoiding unnecessary air pockets the Neosphere quickly warms up. The shell has a roomy cut, thus provides extra space for the down to expand, which enhances the thermal performance by an average of 2°C.
