We met Jeremiah and Melissa last September when they found us through a search on the internet. They were looking to expand their home’s living space, and how! We partnered them with our Remodeling Design Consultant Rachael to brainstorm about a MAJOR basement remodel. Transitioning the space to accommodate their growing family meant adding two bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a common area for family relaxation as well as entertaining friends.
In This Issue: Frey Construction Named on Qualified Remodeler’s Top 500 Fall Cleaning & Maintenance Tips
It was fun to work through and decide on the perfect design and layout. Yes, fun! Jeremiah and Melissa enjoyed reviewing all of the layout options that Rachael came up with. They particularly liked being able to “see” how the various

options would fit and look in their space, via our computer software’s “virtual reality” feature. For continuity with the rest off the home, we carried the trim m work on the main floor into the basement, where their daughter personally selected the finishing touches for her new bedroom, including her very own crystal chandelier. In the family room, a new, expansive bar area fits the space quite nicely. It’s one of our favorite features, with solid surface countertops and “floating” shelves that are perfect for storage as well as for displaying items. Cabinetry in the bar area matches that in the bathroom, and neutral flooring throughout pulls it all together.

The end result is absolutely beautiful, as the photographs show. This extensive basement refit will be enjoyed by the Angell family for years to come. continued on next page

Fall Cleaning 101
Take advantage of the clean, crisp breeze and tackle these 10 hotspots for a comfortable fall and winter: Spring cleaning may get all the attention, but fall is a perfect opportunity to get your home into tip-top shape. Before blustery winter winds arrive, take advantage of the weather, open the windows and follow our guide to a refreshed home.
1. Windows. Take window screens outside and give them a good hose down. While they’re drying, clean all the windows in your home. Windows aren’t the only places that accumulate summer dust and dirt; treatments can also be a magnet for both, so make sure to clean your window treatments as well! 2. Dishwasher. Often overlooked, the dishwasher also needs regular cleaning. To eliminate odors and keep your dishes sparkling, run an empty cycle with a cup of vinegar or baking soda. 3. Pantry. Pull out everything and give a quick sweep to remove crumbs and other debris that’s accumulated since the last cleaning. Throw out anything that’s expired and toss items that aren’t properly sealed. 4. Refrigerator. Follow the same advice as the pantry: Pull out all of the contents and toss what’s old. Use sponge and dishwashing liquid to wipe clean the shelves and drawers. Don’t forget to clean out the drip pan at the bottom of the fridge, as mold can accumulate after time. 5. Sink & Shower. Detox the bathroom with a thorough scrub down to remove soap scum and mildew. Open the windows, spray any affected areas, and return a few minutes later to finish the job. 6. Medicine Cabinet. Remove old or expired medications, lotions, and makeup. Medications and sunscreens usually list expiration dates and typically have a shelf life of one or two years. Sunscreen lotions lose their efficacy after only a year. To avoid contamination, you should replace eye makeup every six months. 7. Blankets & Rugs. Take advantage of the fall breeze and hang blankets, comforters and even throw pillows outdoors for a crisp clean. Vacuum rugs, hang over a porch rail and beat with a broom. You’ll be amazed at the dust that escapes. 8. Chandeliers & Fans. Don’t overlook these hanging dust magnets. Clean them off! 9. Garage. Remove a summer's worth of dust, pollen, bugs, and leaves with a good sweep, followed by a rinse with the hose. While you’re out there, be sure to bring in and rinse any garden tools that are finished for the season. Make sure to keep the garage door open until everything has dried. 10. Outdoor Areas. Clean and store the patio furniture, drain and store garden hoses, and remove any fallen debris from the gutters. Also, check weather stripping and caulking around doors and windows to make sure your home is properly insulated.

{kind words} “High quality work- good crews and guarantee of top quality service due to Katie’s expertise and Ted telling me how good the roofing crew is. I trust your company will use high quality material and have crews that take great pride in doing a terrific job and working for Frey. Nick and his crew were so great. Hard workers, skilled roofers, and took great care to do the job right. Nick was great in repairing rotted wood on roof and replacing flashing around large chimney! As my son said “other crews may have just roofed over the rot! You do pay for what you receive from Frey but that is why they are good!” Judith Reith, Baraboo (Roof & Gutters July 2018)

“Frey has done work for us previously and did a fine job. We are extremely pleased with the work your company does and our consultant Will Meylor. I was always able to contact him, he always returned my calls in a timely manner, and quickly handled any issues. Also, we were very pleased with the way the work men cared for our breakables and landscape before they began. The cleanup afterwards was impeccable. I have recommended Frey to friends and would not hesitate to do so again.” Gerald & Sherry Lipp, Poynette (Roof, July 2018) “[I chose to contract with you because] of your reputation- you had done our gutters on our place 9 years ago and did a great job! Your crew was great and very organized. Did a great job! Again, great job! They were here on time on Monday. Very organized! Kim & Peg Rickard, Merrimac ( Roof August 2018) “[I chose to contract with you because] because of your quality of work, product, and the crew working. Excellent on every level of our contract with Frey Construction. We will be having you back to bid on countertops and shower remodel. Thank you!! Arthur Hanke, Lodi (Gutters, August 2018)
Fall Home Maintenance Outdoor Tasks: • Clean gutters and downspouts. (Or better yet, call Frey and get a free proposal for Absolute Gutter Protection so you don’t have this one on your list next year!) • Inspect roof and chimney for cracks and damage. (Again, call Frey and we’d be happy to inspect your roof and chimney for you!) • Rake leaves and shred to use as mulch or dispose of them based on local guidelines. • Close or install storm windows. • Remove hoses from spigots and drain and store indoors, coiled and flat. • Store outdoor furniture and cushions. • Test snow blower and have it professionally serviced if necessary. Indoor Tasks: • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors when you set clocks back in the fall. • Check windows and doors for weather-tightness and install weather stripping where it’s needed. • Have furnace professionally inspected. • If needed, set traps for rodents. “We had Frey Construction replace our shingles, gutters and downspouts due to hail damage on our condos. Will Meylor and the entire staff were great to work with. Their crew did an excellent job and their response to a few minor details was courteous and quick. I would recommend Frey Construction to anyone looking for a good contractor.” Jack Burton, Baraboo (Hail Damage/Roof Replacement, August 2018) “I had three projects needing completion. The damage was caused by a hail storm: I needed a new roof on my house (including two sheds), new gutters and siding on one side of the house.. Frey won the bidding and did an outstanding job with all three projects... Matching the two shed roofs to the house...just outstanding!!!.. Best team work you could ask for in a construction company. From the first meeting, to the work being completed, to contract completion...I could not have asked for a better construction company to do the jobs. Thanks Frey Construction!!!” Karl & Roberta Urban, Baraboo (Hail Damage/Roof Replacement, August 2018)

Creamy Garlic Bu ter Tuscan Shrimp Ingredients: 2 tablespoons salted butter 6 cloves garlic, finely diced 1 pound shrimp (or prawns) 1 small yellow onion, diced 1/2 cup white wine (OPTIONAL) 1 3/4 cups heavy cream Salt and pepper, to taste 3 cups baby spinach leaves, washed 2/3 cup fresh grated Parmesan cheese 2 tsp. dried Italian herbs 5 oz. jar sun-dried tomato strips in oil, drained; reserve 1 tsp. oil for cooking. 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp. of water (OPTIONAL)*** 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
Directions: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Melt the butter, add the garlic, and fry until fragrant (about one minute). Add the shrimp and fry two minutes on each side, until just cooked through and pink. Transfer to a bowl; set aside. Fry the onion in the butter remaining in the skillet. Pour in the white wine (if using), and allow to reduce to half, while scraping any bits off of the bottom of the pan. Add the sun-dried tomatoes and fry for 1-2 minutes to release their flavors. Reduce heat to low-medium, add the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer, while stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to your taste. Add the spinach leaves and allow to wilt in the sauce, then add the Parmesan cheese. Allow sauce to simmer for a further minute until cheese melts through the sauce. ***For a thicker sauce, add the cornstarch mixture to the center of the pan, and continue to simmer while quickly stirring the mixture through until the sauce thickens. Return the shrimp to the pan; sprinkle with the herbs and parsley, and stir through. Serve over pasta, rice, or steamed vegetables.
