before Linda Floeter says she was hooked on the house the first time she saw the kitchen windows. And a recent kitchen and bathroom remodel made the most of those windows, which were a previous owner’s innovation.
In This Issue: 20 Ways to Save on Gas
Linda and husband Terry had been thinking for some time about improving the two rooms, and Linda had been collecting pictures of ideas and watching home improvement TV shows. She and Terry envisioned a big island feature with ample room, instead of their small and portable version. And they considered the possibilities of expanding the kitchen, which would mean re-doing a front
“sitting area” as well to accommodate the dining room table. This was our first time working with the couple. They’d seen us around and liked what the Better Business Bureau and Angie’s List has to say about us. And we—like any respectable contractor working on a major remodel—helped them consider different design and layout options for their 1970s home. As our Jenn brainstormed with Terry and Linda, the vision for the kitchen evolved, while one important “constant” remained: that long expanse of windows that Linda loved and didn’t want to lose.
In the end, it made the most sense to keep the original layout, WITH the addition of a big kitchen island, of course. The room’s look is now completely refreshed, even without changing the existing tile floor (which runs all the way through the dining/ entry). New white cabinets and stainless appliances are complemented by innovative lighting. And twotone countertops add some great variety (perimeter with one color of quartz, island with another). New energyefficient windows (ordered from a special vendor) fit the space perfectly, natch! Continued on Page 2

It’s a girl! We are pleased to introduce Lydia Marie Galván, daughter of our Director of Finance and Administration, Nichelle and her husband Eric. Born May 25th, Lydia was welcomed home with lots of love from her siblings, Eric Jr., Gabriella, Carlos and Julián.
Client of the Month | Continued Windows were important in the bathroom, too, where the total overhaul incorporated existing glass block windows, accented with new tile surround. All new fixtures and painted vanity with a solid surface top harmonize perfectly with a new tile floor. Finally, this older home had a unique cavity behind the bathroom that was perfect for TWO new recessed cabinets. Who couldn’t use a little extra storage space? Linda says the project was less painful than they thought it would be, and that they were kept informed via phone calls and emails. Would they recommend Frey? “Definitely,” emphasizes Linda. “Everybody was so good. It felt like the workers became part of our family… I think even the dog missed them when the job was done.”

“[We chose to contract with you because] we needed a roof replacement due to hail damage. Frey was very easy to work with and didn’t come across aggressive like the “storm chasers.” [The work your company does is] great! Very professional, clean, and efficient.” ~Michael & Veronica Lynch, Madison (Roofing - Hail Damage) “[We chose to contract with you because] we wanted a local contractor with a good track record. We are very pleased with the company, and the workmanship was excellent. We are very pleased with the work completed and love the look. Kathy and I are very satisfied with the excellent job done on the siding, roofs, deck rail, windows, doors, and screens on our house.” ~Thomas & Kathy Wulff, Middleton (Roofing, Gutters, Siding, Windows, Doors, and Railing) “[We chose to contract with you because] of the price, timeline, quality of materials, and the available subcontractors. The remodel was done on time and on budget with the results we expected, so we feel good about the work you did.” ~Paul & Trendi Kampstra, Cross Plains (Bathroom Remodel) “We just had our roof replaced by Frey. We chose them because they had reasonable prices AND they recycle the old shingles. Our foreman was awesome, complimented the color I chose (not your typical gray) and even helped me dig out the old saved extra shingles from under all the clutter in the garage so they could be recycled too! Finished in 1.5 days and cleaned up very well.” ~Chris Schroeer & Jana Hannemann, Verona (Roofing) “I have used Frey for several home improvement/ repairs and have been extremely satisfied with their work and the costs involved. New gutters and downspouts, new soffits, bath remodel, storm damaged roof repair, and chimney cap replacement.” ~Dave & Peg Schultz, Oregon (Roof Repair) “Frey did a superior job in the replacement of our roof and gutters from hail damage. From beginning to end they worked with us to make it a great experience. I strongly recommend them for any project you have in mind.” ~John & Helena McGevna, Middleton (Roofing and Siding - Hail Damage)

Great company, who has friendly, knowledgeable, and high skilled employees with exceptional craftsmanship to complete any home warranty. It has been 13 years since we remodeled our house. We had several windows gone “blind” which Frey warranted despite the manufacturer gone out of business. I also had the plumbing vent flashing gone bad. Frey stood behind their used product and repaired it under warranty without question. Any future remodeling needs I will definitely contract with Frey Construction.” ~Nik & Tess Imobersteg, Prairie du Sac (Window Repair)

20 Tips to Save Money on Gas With the prices for fuel we’ve seen, many people have had to tighten their budgets to make room for more spending on gas. However, with the application of some gas-saving tips, you can keep your spending to within a reasonable range, and help reduce your impact on the environment at the same time. Maintain your vehicle. A vehicle that runs smoothly uses less gas than one that is poorly maintained. Regular oil changes, air filter changes, and other recommended maintenance all help a vehicle’s fuelefficiency. Keep your tires inflated. Studies show that the savings on gas isn’t huge, but it does make a small difference to keep your tires inflated to the recommended pressure. And more importantly, properly inflated tires are also safer and last longer. Don't drive during rush hour. Go to work, and come home from work, either earlier or later if possible, to avoid the rush hour. Getting stuck in a traffic jam, and stop-and-go driving, is one of the worst ways to waste gas. Telecommute. Working from home can save tons in gas, not to mention giving you more time, productivity, and happiness. If you can telecommute even one or two days a week, you can appreciate a substantial savings. Remove weight. Driving with more people, and more stuff in your car, drags the car and requires more fuel. Lighten your load by removing excess cargo. Minimize idling. One of the worst offenders in lowering your gas mileage, idling gets you zero miles per gallon. If you’ll be at idle for a minute or less, leave the engine running, but if it’s going to be much longer than a minute, turn it off. Drive slower. Driving the speed limit is more fuel efficient than speeding. Accelerate and brake easier. Driving too aggressively, especially starting fast and braking fast, is bad for fuel economy. Accelerate gently, and try to minimize use of your brakes, if possible. Use higher gears. Driving fast in low gears is bad for fuel economy as well. Drive in as high a gear as possible, unless you're down-shifting in order to slow down or control speed. Buy a fuel-efficient car. Actually, this is the most important tip on this list. A heavier car wastes gas. Get a lighter car, especially one with a fuelefficient engine and design.
Roll up windows on highway. Many people think they’re saving money with the airconditioner off. Not so if you’re cruising at high speed with the windows down, thereby creating a strong drag . Conversely, at slow speeds, around town, you’ll save gas if you turn off the air-conditioner and roll down the windows. Roll them up on the highway. Don't top off. You waste gas when you top off while filling your tank, as gas will over-fill/spill and be wasted. Park in shade. A hot car evaporates gas. If it’s a hot day, park in the shade. Use your garage. Walk. Driving less is a great way to save gas. If you have to make a trip of only a few blocks, try walking instead. You will burn calories instead of gas. Ride Your Bike. Many people live relatively close to work and can commute by bike. You get exercise while saving money. Live closer to work. Of course, you probably won’t be able to implement this tip today, but the next time you’re considering where to live, try to find a place close to your workplace, or try to find a job closer to your house. It will save a lot of driving and time. Group errands. Instead of doing one or two errands a day, try to group them all on one day. Plan your route. Use an efficient route to cut back on driving. Carpool. Make an effort to find friends, family, or neighbors who live in your area and work near you. Take turns driving to save gas for all of you. Use cruise control. This method is proven to save a lot of gas, as it reduces heavy acceleration and heavy use of the brake. A steady driving speed gets the best fuel economy. Don't buy hot gas. Buy gas during the morning or evening hours, when it’s cool, or you will be buying gas at a time when it’s expanded (and thus getting less). Article found on: http://www.moneycrashers.com

Create a family calendar that tracks everyone’s activities and commitments. Set your kids’ sleep schedules back to “School Time” two weeks before the first day. Set—and enforce—regular weekday and weekend bedtimes. Set—and enforce—regular weekday and weekend wake-up calls. Create a homework center. Stock with extra crayons and supplies needed to complete homework. Make sure it’s not near a TV. Pack lunches the night before and refrigerate! Make sure backpacks are packed and ready to go the night before. Lay out clothes the night before. Each evening have a 30 minute family clean up time to get everything back in place. Create a special hamper in the laundry room for uniforms and other rush items. Fold T-shirts so that the design is recognizable without unfolding. Have your kids set realistic goals for the new year, such as reading 30 books. Remember kids need to make as many decisions as possible. Avoid power struggles by letting them make small decisions.

One Pan Healthy Sausage and Veggies Ingredients:
2 cups (~1 small) red potato 3/4 pound green beans 1 large head of broccoli (~ 1 and 1/2 cups) 1 and 1/2 cups chopped bell peppers 6 tablespoons olive oil 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional 1 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1 tablespoon dried oregano 1 tablespoon dried parsley 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 9 ounces smoked sausage (use turkey or chicken, not ground sausage). Serve with: fresh parsley, quinoa/rice, lots of freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a large sheet pan with foil or parchment paper. Prep the veggies: chop the red potatoes (pretty small pieces so they will be tender in time), trim the green beans and halve, chop the broccoli, chop the peppers into thick squares, and coin the sausage in thick slices. Place all the veggies and sausage on the sheet pan. Mix spices with olive oil and pour on top. Toss to evenly coat all the veggies and meat. Bake 15 minutes, remove from the oven and flip/stir all the veggies around. Return to the oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes or until vegetables are crisp tender and sausage is browned. If desired, sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan cheese over the veggies and sausage as soon as they come out of the oven. Enjoy with rice or quinoa and fresh parsley if desired.
