Parish Nurses’ Corner Through the years, the parish nurses have acquired a nice assortment of medical equipment including walkers, crutches, shower chairs, wheelchairs, bed rails, potty chairs, etc. Many of these items were donated by members. We would like to remind the members that if they have a medical equipment need to contact one of the parish nurses with their specific needs. The majority of the equipment is sized for adults and is in good condition.
From the desk of Pastor David... February marks a time of reflection prior to the season of Lent. Here at Friedland we celebrate our heritage with Scout Sunday, Band Sunday and our annual Youth Lovefeast. Each of these events speaks to the heritage of these different ministries and the promise of the “rising generation.” Personally speaking as a band member for over fifty years, I can attest to the rich musical heritage of our Moravian Bands in the Southern Province. The band exists to serve the needs of the church community. They can be found in parades, at festivals, in worship services and at the side of the graves throughout our province. Unusual as it may seem, the band members often express their greatest satisfaction in the care and musical support given to families during a time of grief. Bands welcome the family and friends to God’s acre. They play songs to uplift the spirit and recall the memories of the one being remembered. Each song speaks to the heart as it reminds the worshippers of the place that individual had in the church and the service rendered by our beloved brother or sister. After the service is concluded and the benediction offered, the band reminds the worshippers of our great hope with hymns such as Ten Thousand Times Ten Thousand or Sing Hallelujah, Praise the Lord. In the case of military veterans the traditional Taps is played as the flag is given to the family. Being a member of the Band is a blessed way to serve our Savior at the time of a family’s greatest need. And so to play an instrument is a pastoral moment when words cannot express our true feelings or our grief. May the spirit of our bands live on in the hearts and minds of those we serve.

NEWS FROM KENYA Hot, hot, hot. January and February are the hottest months of the year. It averages about 100 degrees during the day. It is also the driest time of the year. We have to be very conservative with our water. We have to make it last until March. March starts our rainy season. Pray that we have an early rainy season. The children are back in school after their December holiday. School is going well. Ceci has started her senior year in high school. We were hoping to come home this spring. We are not going to be able to come. Ceci’s school schedule has changed. She is not going to be able to miss any school. It will be sometime in 2015 before we can come home. All of our students are doing well. They have done well With all their exams. We appreciate everyone’s prayers and support. We hope to have a fruitful 2014. We look forward to bringing more children to love and know Jesus. God Bless, Michael, Ceci and Blessing.

Michael and Brenda Brent continue to spread the Gospel throughout Bosnia and Croatia. They continue to add staff in both Bosnia and Croatia as God blesses the expansion of their work. God continues to bless the Brents in Texas as their work expands. Pray that God continues to bless their work among Asian College Students. Your church and mission committee continue to support our many mission efforts to the greatest extent possible. Remember all our mission efforts are dependent on your gifts of love and your prayers.
