 A ladies luncheon to honor the Provincial Women’s Board past presidents and the present board members was held on Saturday, August 17th in the Parlor of Home Moravian Church. The dining tables were decorated with vintage hats and white gloves along with antique hand fans and perfume bottles. Each guest received a framed pledge “In His Will is our Peace”. This gathering afforded me an opportunity to thank our previous president for their leadership and legacy. The history they helped to create and the heritage which they nurtured continues beyond their terms of office. I am grateful to these faithful Moravian sisters who led the way for women’s work in the Southern Province, as I try to follow their example in many works of faith.

The past presidents attending the luncheon were: Lucille Kimel (1962-1968), Marianne Pruett (1971-1974), Sue Hughes (1974-1977), Johnnie Hauser (1986-1989), Julia Davis (1992-1995), Peggy Holyfield (1995-1998), Bee Piper (2006-2008), Linda Jones (2008-2010) and Mildred White, office manager for over 20 years. Members of the Provincial Women’s Board and I continue to visit Women’s Fellowships across the Province. On Sunday, July 21st I traveled to Stone Mountain, Georgia to join board member Cindy Meier and to meet ladies from The First Moravian of Georgia Church, several of whom make the annual trek to our spring Spiritual Life Retreat. Board member Janet Jennings and I were invited to attend the General Meeting on Monday, August 12th at Macedonia Moravian Church, where the 1

Women’s Fellowship is looking forward to hosting our provincial Fall Celebration on Saturday, September 14th. Cathy Ebert, another board member, and I are excited to have the chance to visit another group of women. We have received invitations to join the ladies at New Philadelphia on Monday, September 9th. It is with glad anticipation my visit to Grace Moravian in Mt. Airy on Monday, September 16th.

As a Board, we are striving “To promote the acquaintance and fellowship of the women of the Province and seek to encourage their growth in Christian character and service.” (2010 Book of Order) Synod 2014 is fast approaching and Synod delegates have the duty to elect ten members to the Provincial Women’s Board, which acts on behalf of all women of the Southern Province. Its purpose is to assist and promote fellowship among the women of the Province and to encourage spiritual growth. The Board meets the second Thursday of January, April, September and November. Members should have access to the internet for email, Skype or conference calls. Our desire for Board membership is for diversity and inclusiveness. We encourage representation from many churches, as opposed to multiple members from the same congregation. Reimbursement for travel expenses is limited. More information and recommendation forms are available on the provincial web-site (www.mcsp.org) under 2014 Synod: Nominations Information. The deadline for submitting nominations is November 13, 2013. I applaud our Moravian sisters: past, present and future who contribute to our life of Christian discipleship. With gratitude, Tamra Thomas, PWB President

The Unity Women’s Desk is alive and thriving in our new office in Cedarhyrst. We are so pleased with the response we have had to helping our Moravian women around the world. We’ve awarded 30+ scholarships and have made three loans so far, in addition to helping with several projects related to women’s health issues. We are also busily planning the next Women’s Consultation in Suriname in February 2016. If your group would like to help with Healthcare kits, Baby Layettes, or Birthing Kits for Honduras, please check our website: www.unitywomensdesk.org . We are also now raising funds for the 2016 Consultation in Suriname. Remember that we are always happy to come and talk to your women’s group or any other group in your church that might be interested in this international outreach to Moravian women. We need your help to keep this work going. Thanks to all of you who have donated funds and items for the kits. We need your prayers and your gifts, so please keep them coming. Blessings, Patty Garner, Coordinator for the Unity Women’s Desk ************************************************************************************************** CHURCH WOMEN UNITED is a local, state, and national ecumenical organization which is supported by the PWB. Sandy Cove, a 220 acre retreat and Christian conference center, is located just minutes from I-95 between Baltimore and Philadelphia on the headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay. The website for Sandy Cove is http://www.sandycove.org/. For the 11th Moravian Women’s Conference, held in Concord, North Carolina, we explored “stepping out of the boat” and being the hands and feet of Christ in our communities. At the 12th Moravian Women’s Conference, we will explore what happens after we step out of the boat with the theme “Walk in the Light”, “Come...let us walk in the light of the Lord…”-Isaiah 2:5.
