HEAD COACH DALE LUY Dale Luy is entering his ninth year at the helm of the Frostburg State University track & field teams in 2015-16. In his previous eight years at the helm, Luy’s athletes have won five individual National Championships, earned 11 All-American awards and have qualified for the NCAA Championships 10 times. Luy has also guided 74 different athletes to the ECAC Championships and 19 of his current or former student-athletes hold school records. Luy led the Bobcats to another successful year in 2014-15, leading both the men’s and women’s teams to sixth place outings at both the CAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. The Bobcats garnered nine All-CAC awards spanning both the indoor and outdoor season. During the indoor campaign, Alexis Bush was crowned the CAC Champion in the long jump, while Collin Schultz grabbed a league championship and was named the league’s Rookie of the Year after winning the high jump. During the outdoor season, J.R. Lowery set numerous school records, won the CAC hammer throw title, captured an ECAC championship in the shot put and was Frostburg’s first NCAA participant (shot put) since 2011. Luy also led a total of 16 student-athletes to the ECAC Championships spanning both seasons. Frostburg posted another strong year during 2013-14 as both the Bobcat men’s and women’s teams captured sixth place at both the indoor and outdoor CAC Championships. Lowery grabbed a pair of Second Team All-CAC honors in the indoor season, while Alexis Bush was the CAC Champ in the long jump during the outdoor season. Trey Davis joined Bush on the champion’s podium as he grabbed the CAC title in the hammer throw along with first-team honors. The Frostburg men’s and women’s teams captured four top-five finishes at the CAC Championships in both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2012-13. Both squads captured fourth during the indoor season, while the men took third and the women fourth during the spring outdoor campaign. The Bobcats totaled five All-CAC honorees during both seasons, while the women grabbed indoor titles in the high jump and long jump. FSU saw marked improvements during both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 201112. Luy garnered CAC Coach of the Year honors after leading the men’s team to a runnerup showing at the inaugural CAC Indoor Championships. The women finished fourth during the indoor season, while both the men and women grabbed fourth place during the outdoor championships, a meet hosted by FSU. A total of 12 student-athletes were selected to the All-CAC teams, while 13 competed at the ECAC Championships. The Bobcats men’s team was ranked in the top-10 in the Mideast Region for several weeks during the outdoor season, while FSU won the Roanoke Invitational and finished second at the Goucher Invite. In 2010-11, Luy guided the Bobcats through their first year as a member of the Capital Athletic Conference. The FSU men finished fourth while the women were fifth. Five men grabbed All-CAC honors, led by two first-team awards for Chauncey Manson, while Emily Furr was the lone female to earn all-conference honors. During the outdoor season, nine of Luy’s student-athletes appeared in either the NCAA or ECAC Championships. Furr represented FSU at the NCAA and ECAC Outdoor Championships in the triple jump while seven other Bobcats represented Frostburg at the ECAC’s. Luy guided the Frostburg track & field programs to impressive heights over his first three years at the helm that included several top-five finishes in the Mason-Dixon Conference, including the 2009 women’s league title. In his second season in ’08-09, Frostburg finished ninth at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships after Sumer Rohrs and Emily Furr combined for three All-American awards. Rohrs won two individual National Titles in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles. She was also named the USTFCCCA Division III National Outdoor Athlete of the Year. On the men’s side,
Dale Luy Head Coach Ninth Season Brian Leiter earned All-American honors in the 800-meter and 1,500-meter runs. During the 2008-09 indoor season, Luy led the women’s team to a 21st place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Rohrs earned her third-straight national title in the 55-meter hurdles while Leiter earned All-American honors in the one mile run. In his first year, Rohrs grabbed two National Championships, while both Rohrs and Leiter combined for four All-Americans. Luy also led the Bobcats to two ECAC Championships and six individual Mason-Dixon Conference champions. Luy brought over 30 years of coaching experience to FSU spanning both the high school and collegiate levels. He spent three years as an assistant with Gettysburg prior to Frostburg and worked with the throwing events and pole vault. He had one NCAA Div. III provisional qualifier (men’s discuss), two Centennial Conference women’s discus champions, one conference

ASSISTANT COACHES women’s pole vault champion and one conference men’s javelin champion. His athletes also set six school records and 16 all-time top ten performances. Before Gettysburg, Luy served as the head track & field coach for six years at Elizabethtown Area High School. He had 14 PIAA District III qualifiers, two state qualifiers and set two school records. From 1996-2005, Luy was the head coach for the winter track and field program at Elizabethtown Area High School as well. He had two athletes qualify for the state indoor championships. His athletes also set 13 school records and claimed over 70 all-time top five performances. During his time as the head of the winter program, he was an assistant during the spring season from 1995-1999. He led his runners to four school records, one PIAA bronze medal and two PIAA state medals. While working with the high school, Luy was the head men’s and women’s cross country coach at nearby Elizabethtown College from 1986-1998. He had multiple Middle Atlantic States Conference Academic honorees including a Rhodes Scholar in 1994. He guided the women’s team to 10-consecutive winning seasons, school record in wins (10) twice and second place MAC finishes in 1993 and 1994. On the men’s side, he led the team to back-to-back winning seasons in 1990 and 1991 for the first time in 24 years. Luy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Gettysburg in 1978, Masters of Education in Teaching and Curriculum from Penn State - Harrisburg in 1991 and his Doctor in Sports Management from the United State Sports Academy in 2007. While at Gettysburg, Luy was a four-year letterwinner for the track and field teams taking home NCAA AllAmerican honors in 1976 as a member of the 440-yard relay team and the 1,600-meter relay team in 1977.

Kendall Luy enters her fifth year as a full-time assistant track & field coach for Frostburg State University in 2015-16. Last season, Luy’s athletes combined for 51 event wins, 51 ECAC-qualifying performances, three USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees, two All-Capital Athletic Conference selections, one Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, and an entry into the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships. During the indoor season, Luy’s athletes posted 26 event wins and 74 top-10 performances. Two of Luy’s Bobcats reached the ECAC Outdoor Championships, and junior J.R. Lowery posted a win in the shot put with a school record-breaking throw of 16.64 meters (54 feet, 7.25 inches) to earn a bid into the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Lowery also broke the school record in the hammer at the CAC Championships with a toss of 53.11 meters (174 feet, 3 inches). During the indoor season, 10 of Luy’s athletes reached the CAC Championships, with Lowery setting a new school record in the weight throw (16.02 meters/52 feet, 8.25 inches) and taking second place in both the weight and the shot put (15.89 meters/52 feet, 1.75 inches). Lowery advanced to the ECAC Indoor Championships, where he finished 10th in the shot put and 15th in the weight throw. In 2013-14, Luy helped guide the Bobcats to record-breaking seasons in both the indoor and outdoor campaigns. During the men’s indoor season, Lowery set the school mark in the weight throw at the Marietta Meet on Jan. 25 with a distance of 15.99 meters. During the outdoor season, Luy watched the hammer throw record fall three times during the season. Lowery first set the mark at the Mason-Dixon Invitational with a throw of 47.57 meters to break the 14-year record. Senior Trey Davis later broke the record with his first throw at the CAC championship (48.59 meters) and set the new school record with his second toss of 50.16 meters to take first in the event and earn First Team All-CAC honor. On the women’s side, three different Bobcats posted a top-five finish in the throwing events during the outdoor CAC championships and one in the indoor championship meet. From 2008-2013, Luy’s throwers have combined for two conference champions and eight All-CAC selections. Andre Arthur (discus, outdoor 2011) and Trey Davis (hammer, outdoor 2013) both earned top honors in their events. During that time, Christian Smith was selected for three Second Team All-CAC honors in the shot put during the indoor and outdoor seasons. On the women’s side, Christina Smith also picked up second team honors for the shot put during the 2012-13 indoor season. Luy, selected from a national search in the summer of 2011, served as a graduate assistant with the FSU track & field program for three years (2008-11) and played a vital role in the resurgence of the throwing events for both the men’s and women’s teams. Luy also served as one of the team’s primary recruiters during that time. In the two previous years, Luy helped the Bobcat teams to numerous top-10 finishes, including the 200809 Mason-Dixon Conference Outdoor Championship title and a ninth-place overall finish at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor National Championships. Luy arrived at FSU after a four-year athletic career with the Susquehanna track & field program. While there, she participated in the javelin, shot put, sprints and relays. An NCAA Division III National provisional qualifier in the javelin in 2008 and was a Landmark Conference All-Academic Team selection during the 2007-08 year, she was also a three-time All-Middle Athletic All-Conference selection. In 2003, she participated in the USATF Junior Olympics at the regional championships. The four-year Dean’s List Scholarship student and Presidential Fellow graduated in May 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in psychology. Luy graduated in May 2011 with her master’s degree in counseling psychology from Frostburg State University.

Kevin Scola Assistant Coach Second Season Kevin Scola is in his second year as an assistant coach for both the Frostburg State track & field and cross country teams in 2015-16. During his first year, he helped the Bobcat distance runners to three wins during the track & field seasons, while this fall, he helped the men’s cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the CAC Championships. Scola arrives at Frostburg after working as a teacher/counselor for Academy Programs in Fairmont, W.Va. for the last three years. He was promoted to team leader in August 2014. Prior to Fairmont, Scola served as an assistant coach at Rutgers-Newark (2007-11) and helped start the program in 2007. He coached the middle and long distance runners, supervised practices and helped with program fundraising. He also assisted with the sprinters, throwers and jumpers along with recruiting. During his time at Rutgers-Newark, Scola coached 20 all-conference athletes, 40 ECAC qualifiers, five conference champions, two NCAA All-Americans and three NCAA Championship qualifiers. Scola has also worked in the fan development office of the Philadelphia Flyers and served as a basketball coach at Collingswood High School in New Jersey. Scola, a USATF Level I certified coach, earned his bachelor’s degree from High Point University in May 2006 in sport management and he completed his master’s degree in liberal studies from Rutgers-Newark in May 2010. He was a member of the three-time NCAA Division I Big South Conference Cross Country Champions while at High Point.
Eric Bologa Assistant Coach First Season Eric Bologa has been named the Frostburg State University Track and Field Graduate Assistant, as named by FSU Track and Field head coach Dr. Dale Luy. Bologa comes to FSU after graduating from Shippensburg University in May 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in communication and journalism. Bologa had a standout four-year career at Shippensburg. As a four-time All-American – twice in the 400-meter hurdles, once in the indoor 4x400-meter relay and once in the outdoor 4x400-meter relay – and the 2015 PSAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, Bologa is also a five-time school record holder in indoor track for the 400-meter dash, the 500-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay, and in outdoor track for the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay. Off the track, he garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic honors twice during his career. Bologa served as a camp leader at the Shippensburg Sprints and Hurdles Camp from July 2012 to July 2015, where he would instruct and lead campers. As a student-athlete tutor at SU from September 2014 to May 2015, he tutored students and ensured a productive learning environment. Bologa also volunteered his time to the Shippensburg University Sports Information office, where he created promotional materials, researched performances, and archived past records and place winners. Bologa is currently pursuing his master’s of education degree in school counseling at FSU.

2015-16 SEASON PREVIEW Burriss, who will concentrate on the shot put and javelin in ‘15-16, registered six top-10 throws during the outdoor season including sixth place in the javelin (39.13 meters) and seventh in the shot put (11.56 meters) at the Bobcat Invitational. Deb totaled 10 top-10 finishes during both seasons, including a second-place finish in the discus (39.52 meters) and eighth in the javelin (32.59 meters) at the Bobcat Invitational. Deb will focus on the discus, weight and hammer throws.
L o we r y Ask any collegiate coach prior to their respective seasons and their goal is to continue to build the depth and talent in their program and compete for a conference title. Heading into the season opening meet this Saturday at the Marietta First Glimpse, ninth year head coach Dale Luy is expecting the same thing from both of his Frostburg track & field programs. A year ago, the Bobcat men’s and women’s teams took home sixth and seventh place finishes, respectively at the outdoor Capital Athletic Conference Championships and both teams return enough All-CAC performers and Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship qualifiers to move up in league results. Men Luy believes he has the best event coverage in terms of depth and talent in several years, if not during his tenure with the Bobcats. Frostburg returns All-CAC performers in the throws and jumps, along with ECAC qualifiers in nearly every event. Throwers Without a doubt, the Bobcat throwers will provide the most talent on the men’s side behind senior J.R. Lowery, who should once again compete for All-American honors. Junior Patrick Broussoul, junior Donovan Burriss and sophomore Matt Deb round out the depth at the throws and should push for some of the top spots at the CAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Lowery totaled five school records during both seasons a year ago, captured three All-CAC awards, one CAC Championship and one ECAC Championship, 10 wins and a spot in the NCAA Championship. During the indoor campaign, Lowery grabbed Second Team All-CAC honors after finishing runner-up in both the shot put (15.89 meters) and weight throw (16.02 meters) and competed in the ECAC Championships in both. Lowery dominated the outdoor season to the tune of seven wins, including the CAC Championship in the hammer throw (51.63 meters). However, at the ECAC Championships Lowery captured a win and set another school record in the shot put (16.64 meters) with the nation’s 10th-longest throw. He went on to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot, taking 15th place. Broussoul totaled eight top-10 finishes in the throws during the indoor season and will look to improve on his eighth place finish in the hammer throw (42.25 meters) at the CAC Championships. He will focus on the discus, weight and hammer throws this year.

Sprints Luy and his coaching staff also feel that they have plenty of depth at the sprints primarily in the 200 and 400. Junior Hossein Hakimi and sophomore Malik Harris will lead the group of long sprinters, while in the short sprints, junior Sterlyn Elder and sophomore Devon Fairhall return after successful campaigns in ‘14-15. Hakimi, who might move back into the 400-meter hurdles, totaled eight top-10 finishes a season ago and helped guide the 4x400-meter relay team to a win (3:27.84) at the Bobcat Invitational. The 4x400 team also finished 14th at the ECAC Championships in 3:22.71. As a freshman in ‘14, Hakimi captured seventh at the CAC Outdoor Championships in the 400 hurdles. Harris will be moved into the long sprints and will long jump for the Bobcats after primarily competing in the short sprints last year. He registered three top-10 finishes behind a season-best eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash at the Mason-Dixon Invitational. Elder is arguably the most talented sprinter of the group after totaling 16 top-10 finishes during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He won the 100-meter dash three times last spring, including both the 100 (11.16) and 200 dash titles (22.74) at the Bobcat Invitational. He also helped the 4x100-meter relay team qualify for the ECAC Championships four times during the outdoor campaign including three-consecutive wins. Mid-Distance & Distance A good mix of both upperclassmen and newcomers will provide the depth at both middistance and distance. Senior Greg Horning is fresh off a successful cross country season, while junior David Homce had an effective first season with Frostburg last year. Horning won the steeplechase at the Bobcat Invitational (13:04.93) and finished the outdoor season with seventh in the event at the CAC Championships (10:42.87). He will also add depth to the mid-distance events. Meanwhile, Homce will bolster the mid-distance and once again compete in the decathlon. He was runner-up in the 500-meter dash (1:14.41) at the WVU Invitational during the indoor season and captured 13th in the decathlon (4,233 pts.) at the Messiah Invitational. Freshman Robert Romano will compete in both the mid and long distances, while classmate Matt Whitley will serve as the Bobcats’ primary long distance runner. Romano won the Westmoreland Invitational during the cross country season, finished with two top-10 finishes and was FSU’s top finisher at the CAC Championships. Whitley

2015-16 SEASON PREVIEW took home 10th at Westmoreland and was third for Frostburg at the CACs. Junior Gartee Guar and sophomore Brad Baker will add depth and talent to the middistance events. Guar won the 800-meter dash (2:12.87) at the Marty Pushkin Classic at WVU to open the indoor season, while Baker won two events spanning two indoor meets at WVU; the one-mile run (4:50.91) at the Marty Pushkin Classic and the 1,000-meter dash (2:59.81) at the WVU Invitational. High Jump One of the Bobcats’ most talented athletes will be sophomore Collin Schultz in the high jump after a pair of All-CAC awards last year. He kicked off his collegiate career with the CAC Indoor Championship in the high jump at 1.98 meters and followed it up with a runner-up showing and Second Team All-CAC honors during the outdoor season (1.92 meters). He competed in the ECAC Championships in the high jump twice, taking 12th during the indoor season. Pole Vault Sophomore Justin Harreld returns as the squad’s leading pole vaulter, but will be pushed by freshman Cameron Crosler. Harreld captured 16th in the PV (3.27 meters) at the CAC Championships last spring. Newcomers Following his returning athletes, Luy was quick to mention a group of newcomers and freshmen that are showing promise including freshman Kenny King and Corey Bailey in the sprints, freshman Christian Healey in the jumps, freshman Brad Forster in the hurdles and multi-events, freshman Terence Beulah in the sprints and hurdles and freshman Matt Robinson in the sprints and hurdles. Women While the Bobcat women don’t provide the depth that the Bobcat men possess, Luy and his staff are confident that his team has key returners at certain positions that should compete for All-CAC honors. Throwers Frostburg’s throwers possess quality in each event and are all capable of placing in the CAC Championships. After competing in the ECAC Outdoor Championships as a freshman, junior Tiffany
Cancel posted 14 top-10 finishes as a sophomore and will fight to be Frostburg’s top thrower this year. She won the discus (37.11 meters) at the CalU Early Bird Invitational and captured third in the same event (36.12 meters) at the CACs. Sophomore Elaine Saxton is improving while heading into her second year with the program after registering five top-10 finishes last spring. She captured sixth at the Bobcat Invitational in the shot put (9.19 meters), seventh in the discus (23.16 meters) and eighth in the javelin (20.05 meters). Sophomore Zoe Harris has emerged as one of the league’s top javelin throwers, but she should improve in the shot put during the indoor season and might expand into the heptathlon during the outdoor campaign. She posted 12th in the shot (8.97 meters) at the CAC Indoor Championships, but collected six top-10 finishes in the javelin. She was third at the CAC Championships (36.82 meters) and captured a win at the Bobcat Invitational at 35.42 meters. Freshman Holly Van Wie is emerging as a solid thrower for the team through the preseason and should help provide depth with the shot, weight, discus and javelin throws. Sprints & Hurdles Sophomores Kayla Truesdel and Destiny Logan will be the strength of the short sprints after successful freshmen seasons, while junior Amy Virostek returns as the team’s top 400 hurdler. The threesome will also be the foundation in the relay events. Truesdel burst on the scene last year with two All-CAC awards, seven wins and appearances in the ECAC Championships during both seasons. She earned Second Team All-CAC honors during the indoor CACs after taking second in both the 200 (26.45) and the 400-meter dashes (1:01.4). During the spring, she collected two wins at both the Bobcat Invitational and the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna, while taking 26th in the 200-meter dash (26.43) at the ECAC Championships. Logan registered two top-10 individual finishes, but helped the Bobcat relay teams to a combined eight top-10 finishes and one win. She helped the 4x400 team to a victory at the Bobcat Invitational (4:18.86), while the 4x100-meter relay squad took fourth (49.94) at the CAC Championships. She also finished 19th as part of the 4x100 team (50.02) at the ECAC Outdoor Championships. Virostek has served as Frostburg’s top 400-meter hurdler the past two seasons and will continue that role this year. She earned 13 top-10 finishes covering both seasons, while capturing a win in the hurdles (1:09.86) at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna. She has the potential for All-CAC honors in the hurdles after finishing third (1:07.78) at the CAC Championships during the outdoor season. Mid-Distance Senior Faith Thackston will open her track career after competing for the cross country teams over the last several seasons. She will provide veteran leadership to the mid-distance group after a successful final cross country campaign. She was the Bobcats’ second runner for much of much the season that included a top-10 finish, before emerging as the team’s top finisher at the CAC Championships and NCAA Mideast Regional. Newcomers A trio of newcomers will also provide talent to a handful of events that need the depth in ‘15-16. Freshman Heather Martin will serve as the women’s primary pole vaulter, while junior transfer Samantha Gittere will provide some veteran talent to the hurdles.
