Head Coach Brian Parker Brian Parker College: Frostburg State

Head Coach Brian Parker begins his 12th season as head coach of the Frostburg State University women's soccer program in 2013. The 1992 FSU graduate, is the winningest Bobcat women's soccer coach with a 161-50-20 record in his 11 seasons. Parker’s teams aren’t just winning on the field, as the Bobcats have won six-straight NSCAA Team Academic honors and fivestraight NSCAA Team Ethics awards. Heading into last season, Parker was ranked 20th among active NCAA Division III coaches with a .737 winning percentage and 24th all-time among both active and nonactive coaches in winning percentage. Three years ago, the Bobcats joined the Capital Athletic Conference and they haven’t skipped a beat. Frostburg has posted 48 wins, including back-to-back 17-win seasons in 2010 (17-4-1) and 2011 (17-2-2). FSU has earned 16 wins in conference place, including the 2012 CAC Tournament Championship. Over the last three years, Frostburg has posted a combined 33 shutouts, including 22 at home and 10 against CAC opponents. The Bobcats have twice finished second in the CAC regular season standings (2010 & 2011) and have placed 15 players on the All-CAC teams. Last season, the Bobcats earned the program's seventh NCAA Tournament appearance after defeating Salisbury in the CAC Tournament Championship game. FSU led the CAC and finished 25th in the country at 3.15 goals per game, while posting a minsicule 0.77 goals against average. To cap the accolades, Adria Graham became the program's first-ever NSCAA All-American. Prior to 2010, FSU won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament five times under Parker's guidance (2002-05 and 2009). He also powered the Bobcats to the ECAC Tournament in three-consecutive seasons from 2006-2008. In 2009, Parker capped FSU's tenure in the AMCC in stellar fashion. Frostburg finished with a school record 18 wins (18-4 overall), scored a program record 90 goals, won 14 of 15 games during the middle part of the season, posted a 9-1 conference mark and advanced to the AMCC Championship game for the 11th-straight year. In the championship, FSU needed an overtime period to down Penn State Altoona as Lauren Russell drilled home a shot four minutes into the extra frame to send FSU to a 1-0 victory. In the NCAA Tournament, FSU lost to No. 9 ranked Otterbein 1-0 in the first round. Over the first seven years at the helm (2002-08), Parker built one of the most successful programs on the east coast. He led the Bobcats to four-consecutive AMCC Tournament Championships (2002-05) and four NCAA Tournaments (200205). In 2003, the Bobcats were chosen to host an NCAA match for the first time in school history and made the most of the opportunity, defeating Westminster 3-2 for their first NCAA Tournament victory in three tries. In 2008, Parker’s squad set school records in shutouts (15), save percentage (0.873), goals against average (0.35) and fewest goals allowed in a season (8). In 2007, Frostburg upset No. 18 ranked Johns

Hopkins, 4-1, at Bobcat Stadium on a Friday night. Parker, a two-time AMCC Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2004, led the Bobcats to 95 wins during that stretch, 35 wins in the AMCC and a school record 12-straight wins in the 2003 season. Parker coached 36 All-AMCC selections and six league Players of the Year, including three-time Great Lakes AllRegion honoree Karen Kotofski. Parker has coached several individual school record holders, including Kotofski, the school's all-time leader in goals (83) and Lauren Russell, FSU's all-time leader in assists (39). Russell is also second in program history with 64 career goals. Prior to returning to western Maryland, Parker served as head girls soccer coach at Urbana High School in Frederick County, Md., since the school's opening in 1995. He guided the Hawks to an impressive 62-36-6 record and a pair of regional championships during his tenure. In just his second season at Urbana, Parker was named the Frederick County Coach of the Year after leading a team of freshmen and sophomores to the school's first-ever regional championship crown. The Hawks, who posted winning records in six of Parker's seven years, earned their second regional title in 2001. Parker is no stranger to FSU, as he was a goalkeeper for the Bobcats from 1987-89. He was a member of two Eastern College Athletic Conference Tournament qualifiers, including the 1989 squad that won the ECAC South Region Championship. Parker then coached the FSU women's soccer team as a club sport from 1990-1992 and received his degree in social sciences with a teaching certification from FSU in 1992. He moved on to West Virginia University where he serve as a graduate assistant for the Mountaineer men's team for two years while earning a master's in political science. Parker, who has a USSF "B" coaching license and a Premier Diploma from the NSCAA, is on the coaching education staff of both the Maryland State Youth Soccer Assoc. (MSYSA) and the NSCAA and teaches in the FSU Minor in Coaching program. Parker is also frequently on the Maryland Olympic Development Program Staff and led the Maryland 1990 Girls team to the Region I Tournament championship in 2005 and coached the 1994 girls in 2009/10 and the 1996 girls in 2011 to appearances in the Region I Tournament Championship game. He is currently the 1998 Girls Maryland Stff Coach. Parker was a founder and staff coach with the Frederick United Soccer Club (now FC Frederick) until his return to FSU. He and his wife, Karen, a 1993 FSU graduate and native of Frostburg, have two children — Elise (12) and Matt (10).

Assistant Coaches Louis Liberatore College: Belmont Abbey

Assistant Coach Louis Liberatore enters his second year as the goalkeeper coach for both the Frostburg State men's and women's soccer programs in the fall of 2013. In his first year, he helped the women's soccer keepers to 14 wins, 79 saves and a .78 goals against average. On the men's side, the Bobcat goalies picked up 12 wins, 77 saves and a 1.28 gaa. Liberatore came to Frostburg after a pair of coaching stops. Last year, he served as a volunteer assistant goalkeeper coach for the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team, assisting with practices and developing goalkeeper training sessions. Liberatore also served as the assistant director of goalkeeping for the Gaston United Soccer Club. He assisted with weekly goalkeeper training and taught the basic skills of goalkeeping to young players ages 9-17. He currently serves as an assistant director with the SoccerPlus Goalkeeper School. He has coached hundreds of camp attendees in the skills of goalkeeping and is responsible

for camper evaluations. Liberatore graduated from Belmont Abbey College in January 2012 with dual bachelor's degrees in sport management and psychology. He was a Dean's List student, Honor Institute Member, Chi Alpha Sigma (National Collegiate Athletic Honor Society) and Delta Epsilon Sigma (Scholastic Honor Society). He was five-year member of the varsity soccer team at Belmont Abbey. He was an All-Conference Carolinas Third Team selection and was a two-time Academic All-Conference Carolinas honoree. He was voted team captain during his final two years with the program. Liberatore is currently pursuing his MBA at Frostburg State University.

Liz Seligman College: Frostburg State

Assistant Coach Liz Seligman is entering her first season as a graduate assistant for the Frostburg State University women’s soccer program in 2013-2014. For the past four years Seligman was a fundamental cornerstone in the women’s soccer program as she started every game of her career (104). She finished second overall in FSU career assists with 36. Seligman was one of the league’s most consistent players throughout the Bobcats' three years in the CAC as last season marked her third-straight second-team all-conference award. In her senior year, she finished second in the league in assists (9) and helped the defense to seven shutouts. As a junior, she led

2

the CAC and FSU with eight assists. Seligman also has been actively involved in coaching since her arrival on campus. She was as a member of the coaching staff for the Frostburg soccer camps for the past three years. In addition, she served as a soccer clinic instructor for the Cumberland YMCA. She also possesses an NSCAA National Diploma coaching license. She graduated from FSU with a degree in psychology in 2013. She is currently obtaining her masters of education in the interdisciplinary program.

2013 Season Preview The year might change, but certain things will always remain the same for Frostburg State University head women’s soccer coach Brian Parker; scoring and winning. Parker, entering his 12th year at the helm of the Bobcats, returns one of the top scoring tandems in the country. Add in a healthy mix of returning talent in both the midfield and on defense and Parker’s 2013 squad should have the recipe for a return trip to the NCAA Tournament. Parker, who surpassed 150 career wins last fall, returns seven starters from last year’s team that earned the program’s seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Bobcats led the Capital Athletic Conference in scoring (63 goals) a season ago and have averaged over 16 wins per season over the last six years. Parker and his staff are excited for the season along with the talent that fills out the 2013 roster. The staff includes Louis Liberatore in his second season as the goalkeeper coach and Liz Seligman who graduated in 2012 and was a four-year starter for the Bobcats. “This year we will be one of the most well scouted teams, everyone knows what we do. We are going to try out some different formations, be more creative, and be less predictable. It will be like a chess match and the girls are enthusiastic about it. They are ready for the challenge,” stated Parker. Offense After outscoring their opponents 63-16 a season ago and scoring over three goals a game (3.15), the Bobcats return almost all of their offensive firepower this season. “We have as much talent up front as we probably ever have; they are a fun to watch, experienced and an intelligent group.” The front line boasts a strong combination of experience, leadership and new faces eager to showcase the Bobcats’ offensive prowess. The dominant front line led the CAC in goals, shots (409), goals per game, assists (50) and shot percentage (.154). Seniors Adria Graham and Stephanie Fazenbaker will continue to cement their reputation as one of the most dominant striker power duos in the region. The tandem made their presence known in the CAC last year, forming the league’s top scoring attack combining for 31 goals and 23 assists. Graham, arguably one of the most decorated athletes in Frostburg history, heads into her final year ready to defend her two-time CAC Offensive Player of the Year title. She is currently ranked third in school history in career goals (51) and fourth in points (114). Graham racked up plenty of post-season accolades including becoming the program’s first-ever National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American. In addition, she earned both COSIDA Academic and NSCAA

Scholar All-American honors. Graham led the CAC and finished 11th in the nation with 54 points behind a conference best 23 goals and eight assists. She enters her senior season scoring at least one point in 27 of the last 41 games. Fazenbaker heads into her third and final season as she plans to graduate early from the biology program to attend physical therapy school. Last season, she handed out 15 assists, good for second all-time in a single season. She joined Graham in collecting First Team All-CAC and Capital One Academic All-American honors. Fazenbaker finished eighth in the country and led the CAC in assists, while also finishing third in the conference with 31 points. She registered one point in 13 games and handed out two or more assists in three contests. Sophomore Jen Tyrell also returns to the front line after completing her first year, where she scored one goal and made eight appearances. “Jen is a hard worker who brings a lot of creativity to her position and she will compete to see time at forward.” The forward position is rounded out with two newcomers in Mikala Ultis and Jessi Martz. Ultis is a local product from Calvary Christian School who garnered all-conference honors throughout her high school career. She is a quick learner with the potential to make an impact at the college level. Midfielders The Bobcats will bring a wealth of depth and experience to the midfield this season. Offensive production won’t solely lie on the forwards as each of the returning midfielders has had no problem finding the back of the net. Courtney Mack and Chelsea Paskowski will be looked upon to bring senior leadership to the midfield. Despite last fall being Mack’s first season in a Bobcat uniform she still garnered All-CAC First Team honors. She finished fourth on the team in scoring (14 pts) behind five goals and four assists. Heading into her senior year, Mack is in great form and playing well and the coaching staff is excited to another year of her high work rate and terrific defense. “Mack is the engine of the team; she has terrific energy and hits the ball harder than anyone on the squad.” Paskowski will likely occupy a starting position at wide-mid. She will continue to display her impressive passing, defense and consistency. She started 17-of-19 games last season and registered three goals and two assists. The midfield also welcomes a core group of sophomores consisting of Brooke Longo, Erin Worthman, Chelsie McCoy and Kelsey Wentworth who immediately made an impact on the team in their first year. Longo enjoyed a sensational rookie season, starting every game and collecting All-CAC Second Team honors. Last

2013 Season Preview season, she scored three goals with one assist, while two of the goals were game winners. The sophomore has also been clocked as the fastest member of the team. During her offseason, she trained in the Women’s Premiere Soccer League. The coaching staff is excited to see how training at a high level will help her excel in her sophomore campaign. Worthman and McCoy will compete at wide-mid, both coming into preseason with great pace and fitness. Hoping to fill the void that was created with the absence of Dorie Gedridge, Worthman contributed key goals in big games for the Bobcats last season. Appearing in 18 games, she finished third on the team in points (17) and goals (7). McCoy contributed two goals and an assist in her 18 appearances while also breaking into the starting line up three times. Wentworth appeared in every contest last season. The stable, possession-oriented, high-ball winner will continue to further herself into the rotation. Madison Wilson rounds out the returners at midfield and will use her year of experience to continue to contribute to the midfield. New to the group this season is Kaitlin Evans, Tori Pokodner and Kelsi Folch. Evans returns to the lineup after a year’s absence. Evans will use her deceptive skills and ball control to see minutes in the midfield. Pokodner and Folch are acclimating to the collegiate level and will look to make significant impacts in their first seasons in a Bobcat uniform. Defense The Bobcat defense will look to fill the void of losing Erin Proctor and Liz Seligman on the backline, who combined for 162 starts in their four-year careers. The team will lean on junior Quincy Hegeman, who will be the defensive squad’s only returner starter after losing Abby Aposporus, who started every game last year, to a season-ending injury. Hegeman also started all 20 contests last year and will serve as the anchor of the defense at center back. She will provide leadership to a Bobcat defense who allowed just 16 goals while posting seven shutouts in the 2012 season. Samantha Ritts is a junior transfer from NCAA Division 1 USC-Upstate, along with Mack, who transferred from USCUpstate before the beginning of last season. She will likely fill Proctor’s starting role at center back. Standing at 5’10, the tallest on the roster, Ritts appeared in 21 games while starting six in her first two years at USC-Upstate. Senior Kyrsten Buck will break into the starting rotation in the back after appearing in 36 games over the past three years. Sophomores Morgan Thompson and Jessa Ditullo also are

4

returning to earn significant minutes in the backline after having great preseasons. The Bobcat defense welcomes freshmen Gina Rock, Nicole Gernert and Megan Conway in their first year of collegiate soccer. Gernert has had a great preseason and is adjusting to the collegiate level very well. Rock serves as a utility player who can play a variety of roles at defense as well as midfield. Conway rounds out the freshmen, bringing yet more speed and skills to the backline. Goalkeepers Although the FSU offense receives the attention and accolades, potential All-CAC performer Katie Smith returns as the incumbent starter and the backbone of the defense in the net for the Bobcats. The junior posted a 14-4-2 record with four shutouts while recording 75 saves with a 0.77 goals against average and a .833 save percentage. “Katie is one of the most technically gifted and skilled keepers we have ever had; she is disciplined, conscientious and trains as hard as anyone of the squad.” Sophomore Paige Gray provides a stable back-up to Smith. She has significantly improved in just one season and the coaching staff is confident in giving her the opportunity to showcase her development when called upon. Schedule The Bobcats open their 2013 campaign in unique fashion. The Bobcats will get the opportunity to compete against Catholic University in the widely-known and acclaimed Maryland Soccerplex located in Boyds, Md. The facility is home to the women’s professional soccer team, the Washington Spirit and has hosted D.C. United Open Cup matches and NCAA Conference Championships. “This will be a special opportunity to showcase two strong Division III teams in the area,” according to Parker. Although conference games garner the most excitement, the Bobcats’ non-conference schedule will provide tough competition and good preparation for CAC contests. Nonconference highlights include Gettysburg, Washington & Jefferson, Montclair State and Stevenson. Montclair State won the NJAC conference last year and made it to the second round of the NCAA championships. The Red Hawks are ranked 23rd in the NSCAA preseason poll. Former conference opponent Stevenson was crowned the ECAC South Champs last season. Conference play will be a battle every game as the CAC is arguable one of the more competitive women’s soccer conferences in the country. The Bobcats face Catholic on Aug. 30 at 7:00 pm.
