2018 Season Preview In her first season running cross country, junior Lauren Halvorson emerged as one of the Bobcats' top runners, posting the team's best time at CACs (26:23) and competing in the NCAA Mideast Regional. Classmate Sarah McCurry also proved a consistent scorer and was the top finisher for FSU at the NCAA Mideast Regional (26:28).

"On the women's side, Sarah McCurry has had a

tremendous summer of training," said Luy. "She really crushed the time trial times for her."

Senior Jayla Jones, junior Sidonie Brown and

sophomore Cashmir Alexander round out the returning runners on the women's side. Jones is a four-year member of the cross country team with Brown and Alexander returning to improve their marks from a season ago.

"From some of our people we've had some of the

2018 Season Preview

Sophomore Braxton Clark was a scorer in seven meets last

season and was the third Bobcat finisher at CACs and fourth to cross the finish line at the NCAA Mideast Regional.

Senior Tom Burklow battled back from injury to run in the

final three meets of 2017 and was a scorer in all three. Classmate Matthew Whitley was also tapped to run at the NCAA Mideast Regional and registered five top-five team finishes.

Junior Jacob Rickards and sophomore Tanner Jacobs were

consistent scorers last fall, with each looking to improve in the upcoming season.

"We have people who I think are going to be running with

Romano," said Luy. "We have probably somewhere around threeto-nine runners, maybe all the way down to 13 runners on our team fighting for the top seven spots." Schedule

The Bobcat cross country schedule has FSU traveling to

Buena Vista, Va. for the CAC Championships hosted by Southern Virginia on Oct. 27. It will mark the first time the Bobcats have competed on the Knights' home course as a member of the CAC.

[ H ALVO R S O N ]

The NCAA Mideast Regional returns to Center Valley, Pa. and

is hosted by DeSales on Nov. 10. The Bobcats will get a sneak preview of the course on Oct. 6 when they head to the DeSales Invitational.

"We always take a look at where we are going to be at the

end of the year in terms of championships to try and build our schedule," said Luy. "Our schedule does set us up for places like Southern Virginia and DeSales, which would be more cross country type courses with rolling hills and they're a little bit more challenging."

Once again Frostburg will host the Bobcat Invitational on

Sept. 29 at Maplehurst Country Club, and will travel to familiar sites at Westmoreland CCC Invitational (Sept. 8) and Messiah Invitational (Sept. 22) after running in both events last season.
