Brands stand for innovation A brand is more than just a name and a logo. A brand is also an investment in the future. The promise behind a brand, the promise of quality, must last for more than just a season.

This investment in the future is clearly apparent in the brands presented in this, the sixth edition of “Leading Brands”. For a good brand also stands for innovation. Although it should also communicate features such as reliability, tradition and trust, a brand retains customer loyalty in the long term by continuously developing and relaunching itself. There is nothing more unproductive in the fresh produce trade than stagnation.

Distributors and retailers will find many innovative products and ideas in “Leading Brands 2015”, and these will help them to raise their own profile on the market place. The market needs new products to stimulate overall demand at point of sale. A good brand is thus an important marketing instrument if you want to differentiate yourself from others who often offer very similar products.

A brand – especially an innovative brand – is always a useful guide for buyers when it comes to making decisions on product sourcing.

It is exclusively grown by a selected group of producers, the Candonga Club, and is the key product of the Metapontino (Basilicata), the most suited area of southern Italy to strawberry cultivation. It is the soil, the climate and the water, combined with strict protocols requiring production methods with low environmental impact and constant quality control, which make it unique.

Harvesting, selection and packing are carried out meticulously by hand to preserve appearance, fragrance and flavour. The result is a delight to savour from January to June.

Candonga Fragola Top Quality stands out for its unique organoleptic qualities. It is the strawberry that captivates the senses.

Looking at it, you appreciate the elegance of its elongated conical shape, its bright red colour and firm to the touch. Its intense and remarkable fragrance is typical of a natural strawberry. Flavour is sweet and lasting, thanks to a balance between sugar and acids.

The sweetness of the fruit, verifiable by refraction analysis, ranges between 8 and 10 Brix degrees.

Shelf life is long, and thanks to its very resistant surface and compact flesh, the Candonga stands up very well to harvesting, packing and transport. It arrives at the point of sale still firm, fresh and attractive, even up to a week after harvesting.

Der Markt braucht mehr Besonnenheit Der Apfelmarkt in Europa ist derzeit von extremer Nervosität geprägt. Die einen verkaufen große Mengen unter den Selbstkosten, die anderen nehmen für Teilmengen die von Brüssel angebotene Marktrücknahme in Anspruch. Dabei gibt auch die EU ein schlechtes Bild beim Krisenmanagement ab. Souveränität sieht anders aus. Niemand im Apfelgeschäft kann derzeit sagen, wohin die Reise 2014/15 geht. Aber: Mehr Besonnenheit würde allen Marktbeteiligten gut zu Gesicht stehen.

Muss man so kleingläubig sein und befürchten, dass die Trümpfe der letzten Jahre schon vom ersten Sturm verweht werden können, Handel und Verbraucher ihre neu gewonnenen Überzeugungen und Denkmuster über Bord werfen, Wertevorstellungen von Regionalität, naturnaher Produktion, Frische und Genuss nichts mehr gelten? Wir meinen nein. Die Obsterzeugerorganisationen am Bodensee sind nicht gewillt, das mitzumachen. Die Erntemengen sind sehr hoch, aber sie bedeuten keine Rekordmengen für die Vermarktung unserer Tafeläpfel. Dies konnte durch gute Qualitätssteuerung und in enger Zusammenarbeit mit den Verarbeitungsunternehmen am Bodensee erreicht werden.

Die Lagerkapazitäten sind daher ausreichend, die Qualität gut bis sehr gut. Die Obst vom Bodensee Vertriebsgesellschaft, Verkaufspartner der Württembergischen Obstgenossenschaft und der Marktgemeinschaft Bodenseeobst sowie auch die Salem-Frucht drücken durch ihr Verkaufsverhalten aus, was die Obstregion Bodensee verlangt: überlegtes und verantwortliches Handeln. Obst vom Bodensee will auch 2014/15 unter Beweis stellen, ein guter Marktpartner zu sein und die Bedürfnisse und Wünsche von Handel und Verbraucher aufgreifen. Wenn der Verbraucher im Gegenzug genügend Transparenz für seine Kaufentscheidung hat und die Preise den Wert des Angebotes in fairer Weise wiedergeben, dann wird der Weg aus der derzeitigen Krise führen. Von der Obstregion Bodensee sind Impulse für eine deutschlandweite Plakataktion der Obstbauern ausgegangen, die im November gestartet wurde. Der Verbraucher muss noch mehr als bisher die Präsenz des deutschen Kernobstangebotes erfahren. In Zeiten grenzenloser Schnäppchenmentalität sollten alle Beteiligten am Markt mithelfen, der „Grenzenlosigkeit“ Einhalt zu gebieten und das nationale Angebot zu stärken.
