Patrizio Cipollini and Mauro Governato, General Managers Four Seasons Hotel Firenze and Milano Dopo una lunga e caldissima estate, è arrivato il tempo di pensare all’autunno e all’avvicinarsi del Natale, festività che seguiremo con un numero speciale e che sarà accompagnata da tanti eventi nei nostri hotel di Firenze e Milano. Ad aprire questo numero di Seasonings Italia sono le parole di Christian Clerc, Presidente Hotel Operations Four Seasons per Europa, Medio Oriente e Africa: un anfitrione d’eccezione e una memoria storica del nostro gruppo alberghiero, del quale è entrato a far parte quindici anni fa maturando una carriera ricca di esperienze e di successi. I due mesi autunnali a Firenze saranno caratterizzati dal ritorno del brunch al ristorante Il Palagio e dalle novità nel mondo del benessere con i prodotti super esclusivi Black Pearl e il Lux Perfection Treatment, un rituale dove regna protagonista l’oro. Ad accomunare Milano e Firenze sono le numerose destinazioni autunnali che proponiamo ai nostri ospiti ed anche i nuovi cocktail proposti dai barmen, mentre è tutto milanese il nuovo pasticciere, Daniele Bonzi, che per il nuovo allestimento della Chocolate Room ha ideato, con la collaborazione di Federico Crescenzo, i personaggi del film di animazione Ratatouille ricoperti dal sublime cioccolato Domori. Decisamente autunnale infine l’abbinamento Barolo&Tartufo, protagonista dell’appuntamento milanese del 26 novembre: la nobile coppia delle Langhe che regala un gustoso antipasto per l’inverno.

As the long and very warm summer is over, autumn has come and Christmas holidays are fast approaching, we are already thinking about our special issue and about all the events soon taking place in our hotels in Florence and Milan. This Seasonings Italia issue opens with the words of Christian Clerc, President, Hotel Operations for Europe, Middle East and Africa Four Seasons Hotel and Resorts: a special host and the collective memory of our hotel group, which he joined fifteen years ago, building a very successful career. In Florence, the autumn season opens with the Sunday brunch coming back at Il Palagio restaurant and with all the latest from our Spa, including the superexclusive products Black Pearl and Lux Perfection Treatment, a ritual based on the use of gold. Many are the autumn destinations we picked for you in Florence and Milan and the new cocktails offered by our barmen, while the Milan hotel’s new pastry chef, Daniele Bonzi, with the collaboration of Federico Crescenzo, has decorated the Chocolate Room with the characters from the animated film Ratatouille, covered with delicious Domori chocolate. And what could be more “Autumn” than a Barolo wine-truffle pairing? The “perfect couple” from the Langhe region will be the star of the Milanese event held on November 26, offering an inviting entrée into the winter scene.

I Four Seasons hotel non vantano solo location meravigliose in tutto il mondo ma sono in grado di offrire ai propri ospiti vere e proprie esperienze di viaggio. Cosa rende possibile tutto questo?

Lo abbiamo chiesto a Christian Clerc, Presidente Hotel Operations Four Seasons per Europa, Medio Oriente e Africa.

Qual è il segreto della catena Four Seasons?

Scegliamo i posti più belli del mondo. Basta pensare alle ultime aperture: a Mosca, proprio nella Piazza Rossa, a Dubai, a Johannesburg… tutti sono diventati leader sul mercato locale. Significa che scegliamo situazioni, progetti e location giuste. Ma questo è solo il palcoscenico, dove gli attori fanno il loro show: è la bravura dell’artista che fa la differenza e noi, dopo 53 anni di attività, abbiamo ormai dimostrato la nostra qualità in termini di servizio, inteso come servizio intuitivo, che viene dal cuore.

Che tipo di servizio viene richiesto oggi?

I nostri clienti vogliono essere riconosciuti per le proprie esigenze personali e per i propri gusti. Il nuovo lusso è questo: un servizio personalizzato. La passione del team deve esprimersi in ogni dettaglio affinché crei, per i nostri ospiti, una vera e propria esperienza: dall’accoglienza al riconoscimento, durante ogni momento del loro soggiorno. Per riuscire a soddisfare al meglio le esigenze dei nostri clienti abbiamo lanciato recentemente l’App Four Seasons, che permette all’albergo di conoscere in anticipo le esigenze dei suoi ospiti e quindi di offrire un servizio più attento alle loro preferenze.

La forza degli hotel Four Seasons consiste anche nella loro diversità. In cosa sono diversi gli hotel di Firenze e Milano, e quali sono invece le loro unicità?

Sono diverse le motivazioni di viaggio: Milano è una città molto attiva, business, mentre Firenze è una destinazione più legata all’arte e alla cultura.

We asked Christian Clerc, President, Hotel Operations for Europe, Middle East and Africa - Four Seasons Hotel and Resorts.

What is the secret behind the success of the Four Seasons chain?

We choose the world’s most beautiful places. Suffice to mention the latest openings: in Moscow, right on the edge of Red Square, in Dubai, in Johannesburg…they are all leading hotels in the local market. Which means that we choose the right situations, projects and locations. However, it’s not only a matter of the stage, of where the actors perform their show. What makes the difference is the performers’ skill and, after 53 years of activity, we have proven our quality and service to be among the best.

What kind of service do today’s customers require?

Our customers wish to have their personal needs and tastes cared for. Contemporary luxury means personalized service. The Four Seasons team’s passion and dedication to customers’ comfort and wellbeing must be expressed in every detail of the guest experience, starting from reception and registration. And in order to fulfill each guest’s needs, we have recently launched a new Four Seasons Mobile App that enables the hotel to know in advance what guests want and offer services tailored to their preferences.

The strength of Four Seasons hotels lies also in their being different and distinctive. How do the Firenze and Milano hotels differ from each other and what makes them unique?

The two hotels offer different reasons for travellers to visit. Milan is a very active, business-oriented city, while Florence is more of an art and culture destination. Both hotels are two oases of peace

Oltre che per il vasto patrimonio artistico, perché il cliente Four Seasons sceglie l’Italia?

L’Italia rimane il paese più attrattivo per la nostra clientela mondiale. Paesi come l’America, la Russia insieme a mercati emergenti come il Brasile, l’India, il Sud America e la Cina, ecco tutti impazziscono per la moda, la cucina, l’arte e l’artigianato italiani. Uno degli aspetti che piace tanto ai turisti è il fatto che ogni regione ha una propria identità molto forte: ognuna vanta le sue tradizioni, la sua cucina, la sua storia. Basta pensare a Firenze e Milano, così vicine eppure così diverse come esperienze.

Quali sono le sue origini italiane e quanto l’hanno influenzata, nel corso della sua vita professionale e personale?

Sono per metà italiano e metà svizzero. La parte italiana, che deriva da mia madre, di origini umbre, è quella del gusto. Lei mi ha insegnato ad avere meno cose ma di qualità: in tutto, dalla cucina ad un bel vestito alla ricerca per i dettagli. Questo è sempre stato alla base della mia personalità. Da mio padre invece ho ereditato l’impegno, il rigore. Ma nel cuore sono e rimango italiano.

L’esperienza di viaggio più bella che ha vissuto?

Non ne ho una in particolare…Le esperienze che 14

in the heart of the city: Four Seasons Hotel Milan is located in the heart of the high-end shopping area, offering guests peace and relaxation in its lovely cloister, while the Florence hotel was designed to be a true resort, with its magnificent historic buildings and monumental park.

In addition to the rich artistic heritage, why do Four Seasons customers choose Italy?

Italy is definitely the most attractive destination for our worldwide clientele. Countries such as the US, Russia and emerging markets like Brazil, India, South America and China, are all crazy about Italian fashion, cuisine, art and crafts. What travellers really appreciate is that each Italian region has its own, strong identity: its own traditions, cuisine and history. Just think about Florence and Milan: so close and yet so different in terms of travelling experience.

What part of Italy are you from and how much have your Italian origins influenced your professional and personal life?

I am half Italian and half Swiss. My Italian half comes from my mother, who is Umbrian. She taught me good taste and the importance of having few but quality things: from food to clothing to details.

This has always been at the core of my personality.

From my father, I inherited the determination and moral rigour. But I am definitely Italian at heart.

What is the most beautiful journey you ever experienced?

No single one, in particular. The experiences that touch me deeply are those associated with an authentic and genuine moment. When I feel at ease

mi toccano di più rappresentano un momento autentico e genuino. Quando mi sento nel posto dove sono. Per esempio, quando gusto un piatto di spaghetti al pomodoro di Vito Mollica, nel ristorante La Veranda, un piatto semplice dove però la qualità deve essere altissima. O quando sono al Four Seasons di Firenze e prendo un caffè con Patrizio Cipollini (General Manager dell’hotel)… ecco sono momenti puri. È questa la qualità: sapersi dedicare un momento.

Quali sono i ‘suoi’ luoghi delle due città di Firenze e di Milano?

Firenze per me equivale a camminare per le sue stradine rinascimentali senza avere una destinazione precisa. La città è un museo a cielo aperto e ha mantenuto nel tempo tutta la sua unicità e autenticità. Vivo a Dubai e mi mancano molto la cultura e la tradizione italiana: quando sono a Firenze, trovarmi circondato dai suoi splendidi palazzi storici è un lusso per me.

Milano è una città molto stimolante e vibrante di attività, dalle numerose fiere che si tengono alla moda passando per la cucina. Con l’Expo la sua visibilità è diventata altissima e questo ha creato una dinamica di innovazioni davvero molto interessante.

Prossime apertura Four Seasons nel mondo?

Apriamo a Casablanca, due hotel negli Emirati Arabi, un secondo hotel a Dubai. E poi abbiamo progetti ad Abu Dhabi, nel Kuwait, a Londra: ognuno di questi avrà una location pazzesca. Sono molto orgoglioso di tutto questo. Ma posso dire un’ultima cosa? Viva la bella Italia!

wherever I happen to be at the time. For instance, when I enjoy a dish of spaghetti with tomato sauce prepared by Vito Mollica at La Veranda restaurant, a simple dish but of the highest quality.

Or when I’m at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze and I have a cup of coffee with Patrizio Cipollini (the hotel’s General Manager)... well, these are pure moments. This is what quality is about: having a precious moment for oneself.

What are your favorite places in Firenze and Milano?

To me, Florence means walking through the Renaissance streets and not going anywhere in particular. The city is an open-air museum and has preserved all its uniqueness and authenticity over time.

I live in Dubai and I miss Italian culture and traditions. When I’m in Florence, going out and finding myself surrounded by beautiful medieval buildings is what I call luxury.

Milan is a very stimulating and vibrant city when it comes to trade shows, fashion and cuisine. The Expo increased the city’s visibility and triggered a very interesting innovation process.

What are the next Four Seasons openings across the world?

We will soon be opening in Casablanca, followed by the two hotels in the United Arab Emirates our second in Dubai and our first on Abu Dhabi.

We also have plans for Kuwait and London, each in an amazing location. I am very proud of all of them.

May I say one last thing? Viva la bella Italia!

Fino al 24 gennaio 2016 a Palazzo Strozzi la mostra Bellezza divina tra Van Gogh, Chagall e Fontana, un’occasione straordinaria per confrontare opere famosissime studiate da un punto di vista inedito. In mostra oltre cento opere di importantissimi artisti italiani tra cui Domenico Morelli, Gaetano Previati, Felice Casorati, Renato Guttuso, Lucio Fontana, Emilio Vedova, e internazionali come Vincent van Gogh, Jean-François Millet, Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Georges Rouault, Henri Matisse.

Ci spostiamo nel Salone dei Duecento a Palazzo Vecchio, con Il Principe dei sogni, che approda finalmente nella sua città, fino al 15 febbraio. Una mostra omaggio all’Italia di ieri, di oggi e di domani. Protagonisti 20 arazzi raffiguranti le “storie di Giuseppe Ebreo”, commissionati nel Cinquecento (Firenze 1545-1553) da Cosimo I de’ Medici, una delle più alte testimonianze dell’artigianato e dell’arte rinascimentale mai viste fino ad oggi.

Amanti del bello, segnatevi questa data: il 29 ottobre segna l’apertura del Nuovo Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, dove si potrà ammirare la più importante raccolta al mondo di scultura medievale e rinascimentale fiorentina con capolavori di Donatello, Michelangelo, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Luca della Robbia e Arnolfo di Cambio. Fulcro del nuovo Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, è la grandiosa sala dell’Antica facciata, con il colossale modello 19

Florence. A city where art is everywhere, even in the air you breathe. Running at Palazzo Strozzi until January 24, 2016 is the exhibition Divine Beauty. From Van Gogh to Chagall and Fontana. A unique opportunity to compare extremely famous works of art seen in a new and different light. On show, over one hundred works by major Italian artists including Domenico Morelli, Gaetano Previati, Felice Casorati, Renato Guttuso, Lucio Fontana, Emilio Vedova, and world-famous masters of painting such as Vincent van Gogh, Jean-François Millet, Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Georges Rouault, Henri Matisse. Palazzo Vecchio’s Salone dei Duecento houses The Prince of Dreams, until February 15, 2016. The travelling exhibition arrived in Florence at last and is a tribute to Italy’s past, present and future. The exhibition showcases 20 tapestries depicting the stories of Joseph the Hebrew, commissioned in the sixteenth-century (Florence 1545-1553) by Cosimo I de’ Medici, widely considered to be among the finest examples of Renaissance craftsmanship and art.

Art lovers, save the date: on October 29, the newly-renovated Opera del Duomo Museum reopens to the public. The museum houses the world’s most important collection of medieval and Renaissance sculpture, including works by Donatello, Michelangelo, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Luca della Robbia and Arnolfo di Cambio.

E, dopo il tourbillon di Expo 2015, si riconferma una delle città più interessanti del nostro paese dove l’arte, la moda, il design e l’architettura creano una miscela esplosiva. Iniziamo con le grandi esposizioni di Palazzo Reale, fino al 10 gennaio 2016. Una retrospettiva dedicata al genio della pittura tardo medievale Giotto da Bondone; pittore senza il quale non ci sarebbe stato un Rinascimento e tutta la generazione di geni pittorici che

One of the highlights of the museum is the spectacular Sala dell’Antica facciata, the room housing the colossal model of the medieval façade of Florence’s Duomo, designed by Arnolfo di Cambio. Our next stop is the Opera di Firenze Theatre. On Sunday, November 22, Zubin Mehta will be conducting a Beethoven symphony program. From Friday, December 4 through Sunday, December 20, the Theatre will be staging Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi, while the traditional Christmas concert is dedicated to The Nutcracker conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, on Tuesday, December 23. He is one of the most successful pianists in the history of jazz music.

Don’t miss this event: Keith Jarrett Piano Solo, on November 23, at the Opera di Firenze Theatre.

As for fashion, Florence hosts the Pitti Immagine Uomo show and many fashion shows, afterparties and events scattered across the city, from January 12 to 15, 2016.

Milan. The city has never been so beautiful. With the 2015 Expo coming successfully to a close, the city has lived up to its reputation in the past few months as one of Italy’s most interesting destinations, the place where art, fashion, design and architecture blend wonderfully. Let’s start with the great exhibitions showing at Palazzo Reale until January 10, 2016. The retrospective devoted to the genius of late-medieval painting Giotto da Bondone, the painter without whom 20

in essa si sono consacrati come Lippi, Pinturicchio, Michelangelo e Raffaello. Il tema, sempre attuale, del rapporto tra l’uomo e l’ambiente è al centro della interessantissima mostra Mito e Natura. Dalla Magna Grecia a Pompei, che intende illustrare al pubblico come si è evoluta la rappresentazione del paesaggio all’interno del mondo classico. Ancora a Palazzo Reale fino al 17 febbraio: Da Raffaello a Schiele, una sintesi per capolavori della storia della pittura occidentale dal Quattrocento fino alle Avanguardie storiche. Al Mudec - Museo delle Culture di Milano fino al al 21 febbraio 2016, Gauguin, racconti dal Paradiso presenta al pubblico oltre 70 opere che raccontano la formazione artistica e culturale di Paul Gauguin, uno degli artisti più originali e più importanti del XIX secolo. Eccoci all’immancabile Teatro alla Scala, il 7 dicembre fari puntati sulla Giovanna d’Arco di Giuseppe Verdi (7, 10, 13, 15, 18, 21, 23 dicembre; 2 gennaio 2016), sul podio il maestro Riccardo Chailly. Per un capodanno sotto il segno del grande balletto il 31 dicembre è la volta di Cinderella, una nuova produzione del Teatro alla Scala con le coreografia di Mauro Bigonzetti. Il 13 gennaio 2016 è la data che segna la prima de Il Rigoletto di Verdi, con il coro e l’orchestra del Teatro alla Scala (repliche: 17, 20, 22, 24, 29 gennaio 2016; 6 febbraio 2016). Come concludere senza la moda?

A restaurant which has been serving successfully, from the very start, both hotel guests and Florentines having a passion for top-quality, gourmet cuisine. Quest’anno le collaborazioni con le realtà toscane andrà ad intensificarsi, con “vecchi” e nuovi sponsor ogni domenica sempre diversi.

Sunday is the day on which Il Palagio, the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze’s restaurant, run by Michelin-starred Chef Vito Mollica, welcomes its brunch patrons, who have become hopelessly “addicted” to this lovely Sunday ritual. The Palagio brunch is back, as usual, from the first Sunday of October, when the weather starts making us crave for hearty, soul-satisfying dishes. Such as those offered by Four Seasons Hotel Firenze’s restaurant, with its rich and varied menu, featuring dishes and drinks in keeping with the season, made with fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients, bursting with aromas and flavors, which meet all guests’ tastes. Of course, the Sunday brunch is ideal for the whole family, with a special menu for kids and teenagers, who come along with the other family members and inevitably fall in love with the delicious food and friendly atmosphere.

The latest, wonderful addition for the little ones- which will certainly keep grandparents and parents happy as well- is the candy and sweets corner, in order for guests to take home a “piece” of Il Palagio and enjoy it for the rest of the busy week following the Sunday brunch. Il Palagio brunch will go on collaborating with special partners, as done successfully last year, who make the event even more unique, thanks to the excellent products they bring, reinterpreted by Chef Mollica and his kitchen brigade in original and different ways each time.

Last year, guests have been treated to Ará’s Sicilian specialties straight from the shop in Via degli Alfani, to the fresh dairy products by the Palagiaccio farm from the Mugello area, to the Tuscan meat and cold cut delicacies by Trono.

Luca Cai brought the delicious creations of his Il Magazzino osteria-tripperia. Last year’s list of special partners included butcher’s shop Fracassi, a true “institution” started in 1927, offering products unique of their kind, as unique as all the brunch partners and guests who join us over the weekend. This year, the number of old and new “friends” is bound to increase and every Sunday will be a different and special Sunday.

Dopo varie esperienze all’estero, come quella londinese da Harrods, e nei migliori ristoranti stellati italiani, Daniele Bonzi torna a far parte del mondo Four Seasons nel ruolo di Pastry Chef dell’hotel milanese.

Qual è la sua filosofia in cucina?

L’attenzione assoluta per la materia prima. E’ un aspetto fondamentale, nella pasticceria così come in cucina. E’ la base sulla quale poter muoversi per sperimentare nuove creazioni.

Quali sono gli ingredienti che predilige?

Il cioccolato Domori, un’azienda eccezionale sia come filosofia produttiva che come gusto, con la quale abbiamo collaborato per la nostra Chocolate Room, realizzata dal pasticciere Federico Crescenzo e ispirata al simpatico topino-gourmet, star del film Ratatouille. E poi la frutta, freschissima e rigorosamente di stagione.

Qualche anticipazione sui dolci in carta per questo autunno/inverno?

Il Montebianco con castagne al vapore e rapa rossa e il Cremoso di cioccolato, fichi e aceto balsamico. Accostamenti insoliti e originali.

Due proposte di dolci ricche e gustose al palato che prediligono entrambe i migliori ingredienti di stagione.

His is a homecoming, for he had worked at Four Seasons Hotel Milano before, about ten years ago, at a very young age. After several working experiences abroad- at Harrods in London for one - and at some of the best Italian Michelin-starred restaurants, Daniele Bonzi made his way back to the Four Seasons world as Pastry Chef of the hotel in Milan.

How would you describe your cooking philosophy?

As the greatest attention to basic ingredients.

It is an essential factor, in both pastry making and cooking. It is the basis for successful experimentation with new creations.

What are your favorite ingredients?

Domori chocolate, an extraordinary chocolate maker because of its production philosophy and taste of products, a company with which we collaborated for the new setting of our Chocolate room, conceived by Pastry Chef Federico Crescenzo and inspired by the funny gourmet-mouse star of the Ratatouille film.

And then fruit, strictly fresh and seasonal fruit.

Can you offer us a glimpse into this autumn/ winter’s dessert menu?

The Montebianco cake with steamed chestnuts and beetroot and the chocolate, fig and balsamic vinegar Cremoso. Unusual and original pairings. Two deliciously rich desserts based on the use of the best seasonal ingredients.

Twenty-seven square meters of sweetness, deliciously smelling of chocolate, brilliant with the warmest colors and tones of the “food of the gods”. We are talking about the new Chocolate Room, decorated with the characters from the Pixar animated film Ratatouille. And so, in one of Four Seasons Hotel Milano’s most magical rooms, for about nine months every Sunday, during the eagerlyawaited and very popular brunch, hotel guests will be able to admire the creation conceived by pastry cook and chocolatemaker Federico Crescenzo and made by the new Pastry Chef Daniele Bonzi with the help of his skillful team. “We chose this theme because it offered us the chance to combine pastry making, food and cuisine- explains Crescenzo-. That is probably the reason why customers keep asking to dine there. We are very pleased to see how much they enjoy the room. Designed to create a 3D effect, owing to the chocolate’s textural qualities and chromatic richness, the Chocolate Room tells the story of the young rat Rémy and his passion for cooking. Guests are able to top off this unique chocolate experience by tasting the delicious products created by Piedmontese chocolate maker Domori, the natural and perfect complement to Four Seasons Hotel Milano’s Sunday brunch.

In una tiepida sera di un’estate affocata si è tenuto, lo scorso 18 settembre, il Concerto del Tramonto che ormai da anni è una tradizione del Four Seasons Hotel Firenze. Ma se la tradizione è stata rispettata l’occasione è stata invece una novità, rispondendo a una priorità di cui Four Seasons si fa promotore: l’attenzione al mondo del sociale e dei suoi bisogni sempre più diversificati. Il concerto fiorentino, così, è stato dedicato alle persone interessate dalla disfagia, una difficoltà nell’alimentarsi che coinvolge un numero di uomini e donne ogni anno più ampio, e che - nonostante sia poco conosciuta - colpisce all’incirca il 20% della popolazione dopo i 50 anni. E proprio per questo disturbo connesso all’alimentazione due Chef stellati come Vito Mollica e Nicola Laera dell’Hotel La Perla di Corvara, concluso il Concerto hanno allestito un buffet consono alla serata, con anche uno speciale “menù di velluto” pensato esclusivamente per i disfagici.

L’anima dello splendido concerto nell’area del Faggio Pendulo sono stati tre musicisti: il pianista e compositore mantovano Stefano Gueresi, accompagnato da Carlo Cantini al violino e da Massimo Repellini al violoncello, che hanno eseguiti pezzi che avevano il loro fulcro nell’ultimo album di Gueresi “I giorni impossibili.”

L’album ha un particolare valore per questa serata e per questo disturbo, poiché il musicista l’ha ideato e creato durante l’inattesa e seria malattia che l’ha condotto alla disfagia.

L’evento ha avuta un’ispiratrice perseverante in Catia Macchioni, da anni collaboratrice del Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, che ha trovato nel Direttore dell’Hotel, Patrizio Cipollini, un attento ascoltatore per i bisogni e le esigenze della Fondazione “Salvatore Calabrese”; alla riuscita dell’eccezionale serata hanno poi contribuito l’impegno di Anna Rita Bonamici di OIC e la partecipazione di Panerai, ma anche Luca Cuzziol che con la sua compagnia di distribuzione vini in Italia Cuzziol GrandiVini, ha aiutato a realizzare questo evento di solidarietà con le sue pregiate etichette, perfette per sollevare gli animi dei convenuti nel Giardino del palazzo di Firenze dei Della Gherardesca. A contribuire all’esito felice della serata anche Michil Costa, presidente e co-proprietario dell’Hotel La Perla. Il profitto dell’evento, che ha visto presenti centinaia di partecipanti, sarà donato al Progetto di Sensibilizzazione alla Disfagia della Fondazione Salvatore Calabrese.

Four Seasons Hotel Firenze hosted the traditional Sunset Concert on a warm, latesummer evening, on September 18 last.

Four Seasons has, once again, offered further proof of its commitment to social issues and efforts in serving people’s challenging and diversified needs. The Florentine concert was, in fact, dedicated to people suffering from dysphagia, a disorder affecting a growing number of men and women every year- although it is still a little-known disorder- about 20% of the over-50 population.

After the concert dedicated to this disabling condition related to eating and nourishment, the two Michelin-starred chefs Vito Mollica and Nicola Laera from La Perla Hotel of Corvara prepared a buffet dinner based on a special “velvet” menu specially designed for people suffering from dysphagia.

The stars of the concert, held in the garden’s hanging beech-tree area, were three well-known musicians: pianist and composer from Mantova Stefano Gueresi, accompanied by violinist Carlo Cantini and cello player Massimo Repellini, who performed pieces from Gueresi’s latest album I giorni impossibili (The Impossible Days).

The album was composed by Gueresi in the difficult months following the discharge from the hospital where he was treated for dysphagia. The event was enthusiastically promoted by Catia Macchioni, who has been collaborating with Four Seasons Hotel Firenze for many years, and who found in the hotel’s director, Patrizio Cipollini, a supporter for the needs and programs of the Salvatore Calabrese Foundation. Several other Four Seasons friends contributed to the event’s success: Anna Rita Bonamici from OIC, Panerai, Luca Cuzziol who, with his wine distribution company Cuzziol GrandiVini, treated the guests gathered in Florence, in the garden of the Della Gherardesca Palace, which houses Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, to some of his finest wine labels, and last but not least, Michil Costa, president and co-owner of La Perla Hotel.

The proceeds of the event, attended by hundreds of people, will be donated to the Salvatore Calabrese Foundation’s Dysphagia Awareness Program.

In scena cinque grandi aziende italiane: la MGM Alimentari, azienda specializzata in cibi pregiati, che firma i tartufi, e a rappresentare il Barolo quattro rinomate aziende - G.D. Vajra, Sandrone, Parusso e Conterno Fantino. Accanto al tartufo, quattro etichette d’eccellenza unite da una provenienza comune, le Langhe, che coincide con un’area unica al mondo, fertile e generosa. Aziende che si somigliano e ritrovano tratti comuni anche nelle loro storie, fatte di terra e di fatica, ma anche di amore per il terroir e di generazioni che si susseguono, una dopo l’altra, come iniezioni di entusiasmo e energia. Questa la ricetta per vini eleganti e allo stesso tempo complessi, delicati e potenti, comunque perfetti in abbinamento al tartufo. The stars of the event are five well-known Italian companies: MGM Alimentari, a company specializing in gourmet food, will bring the truffles and four wine producers - G.D. Vajra, Sandrone, Parusso and Conterno Fantino.

In addition to the truffles, guests will be treated to four fine wine labels all coming from the Langhe region, a rich and generous winegrowing area, unique of its kind. From 8,30 pm, the great New Year’s Eve buffet - curated, as usual, by Star Chef Vito Mollica - followed by the FM Live Big Band’s live show and then music and dancing till early hours.
