Fashion out of Paris

Âme Sœur is a Paris based label owned by two sisters, Sabina and Madina. Their collections are known for their kaleidoscope patterns and origami-like foldings. The sisters started Âme Sœur straight after graduating and have been building their brand ever since. I’ll be chatting to them about the brand, the business and what it’s like working with family. FSHN: When was Âme Sœur founded and can you tell us a little bit about the label? AS: Ame Sœur was founded in 2008 and consists of the two of us - Sabina & Madina Taschén. We are sisters. Ame Soeur translated means soulmates but Soeur also means sister, so it can also mean soul sisters. We thought that this suited us rather well. We founded our label in Paris and have been based there for the past 7 years. FSHN:How is it working with family? What are the advantages or disadvantages? AS: There are no disadvantages for us, only advantages. There are so many topics we don’t have to discuss, because we feel very similar about most subjects. We share the same background and values, but also the same taste and aesthetics, which makes it very easy when working together. We take inspiration from the same sources and also know in what direction we want the label to go in. An important factor in our business is trust, and we trust each other 100 percent. We are family and we only want the best for each other and the label. FSHN: What would you describe as the “AS Style?” Do you have any signature pieces? AS: The characteristics are the strong print design combined with origami foldings. The kaleidoscopic prints are reflected and mirrored images. Our clothes are often inspired by architectural designs but we also let ourselves get inspired by the fabrics we use. We work doing moulage a lot. During the summer season, we tend to do clothes that are more colorful and in the winter time, we design more black and white pieces. We always stick to the same technique and the kaleidoscopic prints. At the beginning, we wanted every piece to be a signature piece, but as the label matured, we realized that it’s more important for the garments to be wearable. We want to be unique with the crazy volumes, but the clothes must be ready to wear pieces. FSHN:You have a special technique when creating your your signature pieces. Could you explain this process to us? AS: We developed a very unique way of making our designs, a little bit like origami. We want to waste less fabric, so we don’t use any seam allowance to stitch the pieces together. We mark the positions of the foldings and then fold everything and stitch it by hand. Then we have to do less cutting and waste less material. Our volumes are mostly one big piece of fabric. It took quite some time to develop

22

this concept and find the right production company. FSHN: How long does it take you to create an entire collection, and how many pieces do you make? AS: The collection consists of 40-50 pieces. A lot of buyers want a wide variety to pick from, and depending on where they are from, they also want different materials. Since we want to cover a wide range, sometimes we do one piece in different materials, depending on where the buyer is from, an example being if he is from Arabia then we would create something very thin using flowy materials. It all depends on the client’s needs. On the other hand we sometimes have buyers that only want a little selection. It’s difficult to please them all. So we focus on the important ones. It takes us about 2 months to design and create the collection, although in that time we also work on the production of the last season’s. The prints are made in 5 days but the printing takes 3-4 weeks. FSHN: You are now in working in Berlin. Whats the biggest difference between Berlin and Paris and which do you prefer? AS: We spent 7 years in Paris but we never planned on staying there forever. It was very important at the beginning to be present and available in Paris, to meet people and attend important trade shows. Everything is still happening in Paris , but after spending most of our years there, we had gathered a good amount of contacts and we knew where we were positioned in the market. Living in Paris can be very stressful and very different to how everyone imagines it. We’ve always loved Berlin. We started here and we always wanted to come back. It was only a

POWER FASHION ISSUE 2015

matter of time. Our business is still in Paris. We are still a French label, but we happen to live in Berlin now, mainly because of the lifestyle. To work and live in Paris is very difficult for us because it is extremely expensive. It is very conservative, and they still got the big fashion houses, and we were missing a young creative scene or startup scene like they have here in Berlin. Starting a label in Paris is difficult, and for most, unaffordable. FSHN: You founded your label straight after graduating. Why did you do start then, and would you have done it any different now? AS: We think it was both an advantage and disadvantage. It would have been easier to have spent a few years working in the industry to see how everything works. However, if we had done that, we probably wouldn’t have created our own label, because now we know how hard it is. We started out with so many different and talented labels and in the end more than 90% disappeared. We were just lucky that right from the first trade show we got a few orders which kept us going. Generally, you need a basis of 10 buyers (stores) that make an order, to survive. To be successful, you need at least 100 orders from around the world. It’s hard because you are competing with companies that invest loads of money, and if you are a small label it’s impossible to invest the same amount. You need so much money for PR, fashion shows, trade shows, photoshoots, etc.. There are also things that you can’t predict, such as when a buyer doesn’t travel as much one season, and then naturally buys less. We started when there was a big crisis in the fashion industry, which made it even harder. Now, a new crisis is coming: big clients from Greece will not buy anymore , and also Japan, Italy and Russia. All the wealthy customers don’t buy as much as they are used to, because they are wary, and know that the end consumer is struggling to bring up the money. A lot of Japanese buyers weren’t buying last season because of the price of the importing and exporting, which now is much more, even more than to the US.

buyers, so there is no risk. If we have a shop, we will buy go into production in advance, and we won’t know whether the customers will buy [the clothes] and to what degree. So we will have to do some research. Now that we have a fixed routine and a reliable production company, we are ready to outsource some work and focus on that next goal, which is to open our store. FSHN: Where can we purchase your collections? AS: We currently don’t have an online store but we are available in many shops all over the world. [We are] mainly in Paris, but also Cote D’azure and other places in France. [We are also in] most parts of Europe, such as Finland, Switzerland, and Sweden. We also have our collections in the Middle East and Japan. We also sell our clothes in the US at an online store called www.ifchic.com, and in New York. We are trying to expand more into the States, and are currently selecting and looking for good offers. At the moment, we also take in orders per email, from customers on exclusive request. Visit: www.amesoeurfashion.com Interview by Frida Féline Fuchs

FSHN: Where do you want Ame Soeur to be in 5 years time? AS: We would really like to have our own flagship store. Be more independent from the trade shows and the buyers. It is very hard and difficult to always depend on them.We want to have it in our own hands and only produce for the end consumer. Learn what the customer wants and get direct feedback from them. It is, of course, a big risk, because right now we only produce when we get orders from the FSHN | 23

POLITICALLY CORRECT

SUMMER FOOTWEAR Footwear, the most frequent fault of breach in fashion etiquette, can make or break one’s look. During the summer months, shoes often become more of a focal point. The ensemble might be completed or made unique by a pair of cute wedges or blue suede loafers. Nevertheless, during the hot months of summer, fashionistas find plenty of ways to minimize their outfits’ impacts by choosing shoes that are out of place.

by George Mickum

Women’s shoe options quadruple during the summer months. Slinky, open-toed, and heeled sandals, wedges, gladiators, jellies, flats, flip-flops, and more can adorn the feet. Still, it’s important to match the shoes with the occasion. For example, if one is attending a formal summer event, it’s acceptable to wear jeweled or heeled sandals, often featuring high-end materials such as exotic skins or leather. If the event is indoors and during the evening, however, one is better off wearing a more typical formal shoe. Outdoor social events are appropriate for causal summer footewear, and a charity barbeque can be the perfect place to sport a pair of chic sandals. Wedges are inherently casual. A few exceptions might include an informal cocktail party, or other event of a more leisurely nature. Wedges can be paired with shorts, lending a slightly more robust look suitable only for a casual daytime event. Men’s feet are best left off display. Nevertheless, for casual day events, sandals and flip- flops are not completely out of the question. I caution all men who expose their feet to take a long and pensive look at them. If there is any question as to their appearance, it is best to leave them in shoes or sandals that cover the majority of them. If the event is to take place during the evening, proper shoes are a requirement. Summer shoes can be white saddle shoes or lace-ups, often referred to as “bucks.” Lighter-colored shoes are great for summer. Baby blues and lighter grays are perfect for completing a summer look. A fun trick to turn winter shoes into summer shoes is to use a pastel shoelace instead of matching the shoe color. This will lend a summery feel to your outfit without your having to own a separate set of summer shoes.

These Giuseppe Zanotti crystal-paneled metallic leather sandals are an example of the most formal type of sandal. These could be worn to cocktail hour for a casual evening. Found at Saks.com

Frequently not thought of, men’s belts must coordinate with their footwear. When picking a summer belt, a light brown is a nice neutral that will work with the summer color palate.. This Brunello Cucinelli makes for a great summer piece to pair with blue suede shoes (perhaps), but is only appropriate for more casual summer ensembles. Found at Saks.com 30

I was fortunate enough to attend a few of the shows myself. Pearly Wong, a young designer from Malaysia, showcased her Fall/Winter collection of androgynous streamlined silhouettes; slightly futuristic black and white garments, which featured oversized jackets, in graphic or monochrome prints. The models strutted down the runway in functional minimalistic designs to loud beats of Acid House, and the clothes reflected an almost grunge rebellion attitude that reminded me of much of the youth culture seen in Berlin.

Marc Cain, one of the top fashion houses in Berlin, presented the audience with Future Romance, a festivalinspired collection which included white lace, metallic shimmer jackets, peasant blouses and an abundance of 70’s-styled crotchet pieces and bell-bottom pants. The show started with models dancing down the runway in whimsical white attire, with loose flowing crimped hair decorated with floral headbands and headpieces. The entire collection (53 piece strong) exuded a cool yet chic everyday wear, with a strong 70’s style influence. Think Jane Birkin meets your modern day woman. The ready to wear collection designed by the director, Karen Zeit, also included fringe dresses and floral jumpsuits that could easily transform from day to night.

PEARLY - WONG MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK BERLIN 2015

Marina Hoermanseder’s show was one of the highlights of Berlin fashion week. She presented her collection in the garden of Kronprinzenpalais where her models walked down the runway wearing pastel colors, layered belts and delicate roses crafted from leather. Her entire collection was the perfect balance of couture and ready to wear- an amalgamation of fine craftsmanship and design that can be worn just as easily on the street as on the runway. Her collection was inspired by Trachten and 18th century orthopedic corsets. Hoermanseder is also one of two designers chosen for the new Fashion Council Germany’s mentoring program, which will start in January. Other top-rated shows included Augustin Teboul, Ewa Herzo, and Dorothee Schumacher whose collections wowed the audiences and the fashion critics. Overall, Berlin Fashion Week proved yet again to be one of the highlights in the calendar of fashion world, with fantastic productions and even better collections. Text by J’Dee Allin 34

Henri Reichert sits comfortably in his swing chair in a small boardroom filled with designer garments, jewellery and magazines. I feel as if I have walked backstage of a runway show, Henry informs me that they have just wrapped up Berlin Fashion Week where many of their clients presented their new collections, which explains the mass amount of designer frocks and accessories laid around the room. I am soon warmly greeted by another guest, his 6 month year old dachshund puppy, Edefix. He is the newest and might I add, the cutest, member of the REICHERT+ COMMUNICATIONS Agency where Henry works as the Senior PR Manager. REICHERT+ COMMUNICATIONS is a well established, owner - operated communications agency with offices and showrooms in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. They specialize in public relations, marketing, events and openings, VIP events and blogging relations. The company consists of a team of creative individuals who strive to accompany brands down the road of success. They already have an impressive client list which includes a range of brands from travel, fashion and luxury goods such RIANI,Puma,Lufthansa and SkinCeuticals. Henry and I chat about the agency, his role as Senior PR Manager and his new side venture, The Stylish Dutch.

FSHN: Henri, tell us a little about this event. Henri: We launched the VIP Beauty& Fashion Lounge in 2013 and the Gentleman’s Corner in Janurary 2015. It is a Berlin fashion week event special for celebrity. They can visit us before going to an event and get a full styling from head to toe as well as some pampering. We cover everything from hair and makeup, manicures, massages, snacks, clothes, accessories, jewellery etc. An all round package for our clients. These events get a lot of media attention but we only allow 1-2 of our own photographers to photograph the event. We want to keep it private and personal for the guests. Our main focus is on dressing and styling the people for Fashion Week and the labels we work with like 4Flavour and Patrick Gallas offer their clothing and accessories to the celebrities. The dresses are mostly borrowed from the designers and have to be returned after the shows. However in some cases if they are A-listers, brands such as Pepe jeans or Puma will gift their clothing. FSHN: How long have you been working at REICHERT+ and could you tell us a little about what the agency does? Henri: I‘ve been with the company for 4 years. Reichert+ is a communications agency with a focus on PR and strategic marketing. The agency was founded by my husband in 2010. We have our Head Quarters in Berlin and we also have offices in Munich and Hamburg and cover all of the german speaking markets (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) as well as the Netherlands. Being able to cover so many countries makes us very unique and interesting for a broad range of clients. We specialize in fashion, beauty, lifestyle, luxury goods, accessories and travel. Our clients include Lufthansa and PrivateJet (First class) Puma, Darkoh…We are currently representing 21 clients. Our American clients are Goodyear, SkinCeuticals from L’Oreal and Nobis from Canada.

FSHN: What is your main role at REICHERT+? Henri: I organize events and work with the international clients. I am fluent in many languages, which is very helpful. I also organize a lot of Fashion Week events, Runway shows or Trade shows like Bread&Butter or Premium. FSHN:When looking for clients, what criteria do you look for and which brand would you personally like to represent? Henri: We are interested in startups like for e.g Darkoh but also companies with a long history like S.T.Dupont (140Y ). We like to represent companies that we are interested in and mainly where we can see potential. We want to grow together and prepare the labels individually on their road to success. Personally I would be interested in luxury menswear labels. [Alternatively] luxury dogs fashion would be interesting since I own two dachshunds and I am always searching for something luxurious for them.

events where the labels we represent launch and introduce their new collections to the press. Editors, bloggers and journalists will be present to review the products. It’s very helpful because the labels can get honest feedback from the press, and learn where they can improve. It is a very good platform, especially for new labels, as the editors are always interested in new brands. FSHN: You’ve recently started blogging, what is your blog about and how did it start? Henri: It started when I was looking for good German luxury bloggers to cooperate with our company and I saw that there were was hardly any. So, I decided to be one of the first ones to cover that sector. I basically stumbled into it. I’ve just started blogging so, I still have to create loads of content. I mainly want to blog about luxury goods, which is a good combination with my job. Text by J’Dee Allin and interview by Frida Féline Fuchs

FSHN: What are press days and how often does REICHERT+ host them? Henri: We host the press days twice a year (April and October) in Hamburg, Munich, Amsterdam, Vienna and sometimes in Zurich and Berlin. The press days are FSHN | 39

PATRICK

GALLAS

EST. MMXIV

The relatively new brand offers timeless watches with a classic design. The product line offers a variety of 10 different faces, all with the signature turquoise dot in the middle of every watch. In accordance to his slogan, “Design your time,” the customer can choose from different coloured leather straps and a stainless steel bracelet. When young entrepreneur, Patrick Gallas, began his studies in business he had a great passion for watches and design. In 2014 he took a chance to merge his two passions and founded his self-titled watch brand. The focus was very clear and he knew what he wanted: a simple, sophisticated, and classic-designed unisex watch combined with trendy interchangeable straps to fit every outfit and trend. FSHN: Why did you decide to make watches? PG: I always had a wish to create something of my own, to set up my own business and be my own boss. Having that in mind, I studied business. Obviously, at one point, I had to decide in which direction I wanted my company to go, and it really didn’t take me long to decide that I wanted to design watches, as it has always been my passion. Making and designing watches just felt right. FSHN: Does this passion run in the family? PG: Not at all. No one in my family has anything to do with watches, so I come from a complete non-design background, and it was a jump into the deep end for me. But it was definitely worth the risk. FSHN: When and how did everything start and when did you notice you were on the right path? PG: I started fully dedicating myself only last year in 2014. As this is a one-man-show it took me some time to fully research the market, to find the right materials and also [to find] the right people to work with. We launched the website only 4 months ago but I have already received great feedback from customers and also from those who work in the fashion industry. I hope it will continue to go this way and grow. FSHN: What makes your watches so unique and desirable? PG: I personally love the fact that our watches are completely unisex. Obviously you will either add a more feminine strap if you are a women, or a more masculine strap if you are a man. However, being able to swap watches with your partner or friends irrespective of their gender is quite unique.

“I always had a wish to create something of my own, to set up my own business and be my own boss. Having that in mind, I studied business.” FSHN: What would you say is the signature style of Patrick Gallas? PG: We’ve got a range of 10 timeless watch designs (which I designed myself) that will always be available. The concept is that you can chose different leather and premium steel straps, and put the pieces together yourself to underline your sense of style. There are over 100 different ways to combine the watch models and straps. So, I would say our signature style is to make this watch your very own style. Be creative. FSHN: Have you personally designed all the watches? PG: Yes. I work closely together with a product designer to bring my designs to life. FSHN: Tell us a little about the production and the making of the watch. PG: We import a classic Swiss Ronda Quartz clock mechanism, our leather is imported from Portugal, and we source the rest of the materials from all over Europe. The watches are put together in Asia but the final product control is here in Germany. FSHN: Where can we buy the new it-pieces? PG: We are focused on online sales, only because we think this is the future, so all our watches can be purchased on our online shop at www.patrickgallas.com. And, of course, we ship internationally. Happy shopping!

FSHN: What is 4Flavour all about? 4Flavour: We made it our mission to make dresses that women will enjoy wearing and we want them to feel comfortable in their skin wearing our dresses, regardless what size or shape they are. That’s why we included a feature to ‘shop by shape’ (X,Y,O,H) on our website. It makes it easier to find a dress that matches your figure. FSHN: What is the 4F signature style? 4Flavour: Our signature style would be femininity, comfortable but chic. We want to focus on highlighting the best parts of the female body and conceal the difficult parts. We want our dresses to be every woman’s favourite piece, because they are extremely wearable in the day time, but also perfect for a night out, depending on how you style it. FSHN: How many collections do you design every year? 4Flavour: We do the normal S/S and A/W as well as a special Christmas collection. Coming from a fast fashion background we decided to only stick to the main seasons, so that we can focus on details and finishing. We are now planning on designing a special pregnancy collection because we think there is a gap to be filled. Women nowadays want to look fabulous, even when they are pregnant. FSHN: Can you tell us about the online shop and the 4 categories of every collection. 4Flavour: There are 4 categories in every collection - Day, Evening, Classic and Exclusive. Dresses from the Classic 48

range will always stay the same- the only thing that varies is the colour palette, depending on the trends of every season. This is because we believe that once you find the perfect dress, you will want to wear it forever. We personally had an experience with one of our favourite dresses; it was the ultimate dress, but it had to be thrown out after a few years as it was totally worn out, and we had no chance to buy the same model again. FSHN: Do you both wear your own dresses? 4Flavour: Of course! We don’t buy anything else anymore, since we can create everything that we want and need. We also test our sample dresses for a period of time to perfect the fit and to test the materials. After we approve it, it can go into production. By testing the dresses and only picking the best materials, our designs will last a long time, and will accompany the owner throughout life and not just one season. FSHN: Who would be your ideal customer? 4Flavour: Women in all shapes and sizes, that are confident and proud of themselves, and want to be feminine, comfortable, and chic. FSHN: What celebrity would you like to see wearing your dresses? 4Flavour: We absolutely love Victoria Beckham. She really represents our style and she is such a thoroughly independent women. We would love to see her walking down the streets in 4Flavour.

“...a label that aspires to create the perfect dress for every occasion and every body type.” In Germany, we would love to dress Barbara Schoeneberger. She is such a cheerful and confident women, no matter what size she is, and we think that this is very representative for our label.

FSHN: Is 4Flavour available in the US market? Where can we buy 4F? 4Flavour: Unfortunately, at the moment we are not shipping to the USA yet. We are planning on expanding very soon. We feel that the American women is feminine, stylish and well groomed. She is not shy to look fabulous iwn her day-to-day life and this is why we think that 4F could be very popular in the US. Currently, we are looking for cooperation partners, but we don’t want to rush anything. We’re taking it one step at a time. Interview by Frida Féline Fuchs FSHN | 49

Meet Dathias Hoang a.k.a Mr. @DatsWhatUpp Dathias Hoang is a menswear and lifestyle blogger who studied advertising and acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree at Michigan State. Drawn to the bustling city of New York, Dathias moved shortly after graduating to work in fashion. “Being in New York City has changed my style a lot. The city has amazing style. I like to walk around the city looking for inspiration from people, billboards, and art all over New York,” he said. Dathias is inspired by fellow bloggers, brands, and the city surrounding him. Social media such as Instagram allow him to continually be motivated by fashion around the world. When asked what style means to him, he replied, “Style to me means the ability to express yourself. To create something that shows the world who you are.” Dathias has worked with several brands, such as Calvin Klein, Lacoste, Perry Ellis, Uniqlo, and Darkoh. As a man of many outfits, Dathias excites his readers with the ability to adapt his style to any aesthetic brought his way.

POWER FASHION ISSUE 2015

FSHN: When and why did you start blogging? Did you have a concept/plan? DH: I started blogging over 1.5 years ago. I wanted a blog to express myself and my style. The concept of my blog is a journal of a modern man (me)’s adventure in traveling, fashion, food, and so on. FSHN: You were already blogging for a while before your blog became successful. What changed? Why do you think your blog became so popular? DH: I think what changed is the fact that brands and PR agencies started noticing me because of my Instagram feed. They began to email me to work with them and asked me to wear their products to showcase how I would style or use them in my everyday life, thus making me put more thought and effort into my work. [I had to] make sure that everything that I put out is top notch. FSHN: What makes your job so special? DH: What makes my job so special is the fact that I get to meet all these amazing people and brands. I get to be creative and it doesn’t seem like a “job” but just a fun adventure 24/7. I love what I do, and I love seeing what comes out of the hard work I put into my projects. FSHN: Where do you take your inspiration from? Or do you get up in the morning and just do a spontaneous shooting of your #OOTD ? DH: My inspiration comes from people I follow on my Instagram, brands that I love, and old campaigns that I love. I also love reading and looking at men’s fashion magazines to find new ideas. I usually plan my #ootd before, so i don’t waste time in the morning figuring out what to wear.

FSHN: Lately there’s been a lot of controversy about bloggers getting paid to promote labels. What is your opinion? Do you think that it is okay to get free stuff and promote it on social media? DH: It depends. I do get a lot of free stuff to promote on my social media but I always credit where I get it from, thanking the brand/store/agency for it. And if there is a sponsor post I would use the #sponsor to let my followers know. Even though I do get free stuff regularly, I still shop like anyone else for my #ootd or blog posts. FSHN: What is your next big project? What are you looking forward to? DH: My next big project is working with this amazing brand called “Darkoh.” I am doing something with them for New York Fashion Week in September. That is all I can say :) FSHN: Where would you want to be in 5 years? Do you think you will still be blogging? DH: I know I will still be blogging in 5 years, but I would also love to work in a fashion magazine as a style director. As for my blog, I want to grow it into a lifestyle journal. Blogging for me is an amazing platform to work with some of my favorite brands and [to get] to meet new and creative people. I wouldn’t want to trade it for anything. Interview by Frida Féline Fuchs

FSHN:Like many other people, I have also thought about starting a blog. But there is this one question that I always ask myself: who takes your day to day photos? Does someone follow you around 24/7? DH: Before [I became famous], I would take my own photos with a tripod and self timer. But now, my amazing friend, who is also a photographer takes the photos for me. We work together all the time. FSHN:If a young fashion enthusiast would want to start a blog now in 2015, what would you recommend to them. How should they start? DH: I would tell them to take it seriously, and not to expect to be famous within a month at it. Blogging is a serious business. It takes a lot of time to plan the outfits, blog posts, and photo shoots. It takes a lot of hard work and timing. There are people that have been doing this for years and years and just started to become successful. I still consider myself new and still learning. I am in no rush to become popular. I take each day as a learning process, and appreciate everything that is given to me. FSHN | 61

SKIN CARE

Replete Your Skin In Summer Heat Summer is the season for the skin to interact with natural elements with little clothes coverage. The warmer weather provides a comfortable environment to expose the skin. The summer choice of fabrics to wear are lighter and breathable weaves.

chemicals that can lead to soft bones and other developmental issues. Then, if you do overexpose, you can use Intense Recovery assuring easier recovery. We are meant to live during the day and sleep at night. Why, then, are we fearing what is supposed to be our time to fully function?

Our skin was designed to interact with elements during the summer season, so our job is to support it and not interfere with it.

Replete discovered natural secrets of how to build resilient skin over time- no instant gratification here- as we have been depleting the skin with creams that were irritating and stripping the layers for years!

Now it is the time to make sure that a lot of Intense Recovery is applied nightly under Circadian 365 Night Cream. It will assist in the fast turnover of cells that were exposed to elements. This is a good time to spend more time in water as natural hydration and cooling assistance in addition to Rejuvenating Mist in the afternoon to extend our ability to defend the elements such as free radicals and temperature changes between outdoors and AC. The Summer Serum has building blocks to resilience of the skin in its formulation of proprietary Seasonal ActivesTM. The primary difference between Replete and other skincare products is the fact the Replete understands and follows skin’s natural needs based on its assigned functions. No other product line does this! Replete is food for the skin, providing building blocks for collagen and density of the skin and steadily increasing skin quality with time. They are true Anti-aging products. This is in contrary to skin cares that are promoting selfdefense response of the skin as a collagen building tool. This in fact depletes skin resources at a faster pace, therefore aging it. All Retina products are stripping the skin layers and making them more vulnerable and thinner in density- this is why the recommendation is to stay indoors and avoid sunlight. In truth, a certain amount of sunlight promotes collagen replacement and delivers needed vitamins to our skin and system as intended. This is the more natural way to stimulate self-defense mechanism of the skin within natural functions already programed as part of our existence, including cell replacement. The key is to be outdoors after 3 pm and monitor direct exposure with clothes, hats past 30 min, or an umbrella. This, too, will provide enough sunlight to maintain bone structure density and keep your face’s youthful contour, with high cheeks and young eye-frames. So much has not been told to people when pushing sunscreen into everyday life, including the newborns getting covered with

64

Replete delivers visible changes to youthful skin within a couple of weeks for others to see, and total rebalancing of the skin function throughout all seasons. The summer serum is filled with Seasonal ActivesTM seaweeds and clays that builds the resistance within the skin cells. Circadian 365 Day Cream gives Circadian ActivesTM for a lift to the skin and helping the pigment to distribute evenly, thus helping to lower the formation of age spots. Rejuvenation Mist delivers the needed hydrations and minerals in the afternoon giving the day cream and other products lift for the skin. Finally, 365 Night Cream Circadian ActivesTM work on detoxing, replacing ,and rebuilding the cells from day’s work. All products work in unison with the body’s largest organ- the skin. A few interesting facts when using Replete: During the first week, you will expel all of the toxins that were repressed in the form of pimples under the skin. Then, you will never see them again. Apply only the amount of Replete formulas that is absorbed by the skin. If you have some extra left on the surface, it means you are using too much! The Intense Recovery oil is in fact only 1% oil and 99% bioactive herbal extract. It absorbs immediately into the skin, relieving sunburn almost on contact. All products are fast absorbing, so within a minute of applying, you can get dressed without delay. All Replete formulas are highly concentrated nutrients in proprietary combinations as Circadian ActivesTM and Seasonal ActivesTM. by Elisabeth Thieriot

BEAUTY

HANDBAG ESSENTIALS When the seasons change, our skin routine should adapt as well. In summer the sky is brighter and the sun is stronger, so we have to cover in a good layer of sun screen. This should be every women’s essential, to prevent redness and wrinkles. We all know this, but how many of you actually stick to it? Summer is the season for bright colors, vacation, hot pants, and loads of vitamin D. Our clothes should be bold and colorful, as well as our nails. Trend colors like pastels, gold, and white are the must-have of this season. This also counts for the lips: the brighter the better. Oranges and pinks will look amazing with your tan. To be prepared for any eventuality, packing your handbag with your essentials is a must. Lip balm is an all-rounder, it will smoothen your lips and won’t look like you’ve tried too much, and this way, you’ll have perfectly kissable lips 24h. Carry a small bottle of sunscreen for when you spend more than 15 minutes in the sun. For the perfect eyes, use the YSL waterproof mascara in case you take a quick dip in your friend’s pool or for when you spontaneously stay the night at his place.

DREAMS

designer

Jean Paul Gaultier´s Dream “I remember having a dream from my childhood where I was walking in the street at night and sensed someone following me. They crept up behind me and stabbed me in the back with a knife. But as I was being knifed I remember thinking to myself, ‘It’s only a dream’ so I was not too frightened.” Jean Paul Gaultier

Photo Drew Altizer Photography

THE INTERPRETATION

There are some dreams that come right to the point of the matter and leave a deep, lasting impression. (John Paul tells me as he rubs his back, that he still feels the knife today.) The meaning here has not been blunted; it is quite clear: Mr. Gaultier must always watch his back. In another view, in that being followed is often a symbol of repressed material, the dream warns that if we do not recognize the past and disarm it, it will follow us into the present and catch us unawares. 68

The dreamer’s reaction to being stabbed is interesting: The designer reminds himself that he is merely dreaming. Reality intrudes upon the psyche! This sort of analytic attentiveness to detail allows Mr. Gaultier to soften the blow, so to speak, and make the best of a bad situation. Also revealed is a sharp or keen presence of mind.

LOVE

Forgiveness Forgiveness – a familiar concept to us all. When those we love wrong us, hurt us, or betray us, we have only a few choices – to try and talk things through, work it out, and hope for an apology; to recalibrate the connection at a safer distance, or to perhaps leave the situation entirely. No matter the choice, there is that essential and most necessary component that must take place at some point: to forgive. But as we all also know, it is easier to talk about than to put into practice. Frequently people tend to keep a silent tab on grievances, storing them quietly away in some part of their neuronal database for future reference, and if these are not addressed together in some open fashion, then they tend to accumulate and transform into resentments. We begin to form perspectives about the other person, and we begin to anticipate future scenarios in which the same dynamic might play out again. This may happen entirely unconsciously, making it even harder to tease things apart if left unchecked for too long. Unspoken or deep-seated resentments can accumulate to the point when lovers end up arguing randomly and without just cause or reason. Once they’ve reached that place, it is very hard for them to backtrack and find out how they got there, instead focusing on small issues in the moment which likely would not have bothered them so much otherwise. Further, they start developing expectations of behavior from each other. This tendency puts each of them into a kind of box, rigid and frozen, not allowing for the other person to learn, grow, and change. In all cases it is essential to determine the importance of the relationship when deciding how to handle conflicts and disappointments. Long-term relationships of high value generally require some degree of discussion, unpacking misunderstandings, and eventually coming to that place of acceptance and understanding. Acceptance is an aspect of forgiveness we tend to overlook. We might forgive, but we tend not to forget. If someone hurts us intentionally, it is even more difficult to move on with the person and trust them again. There are so many factors behind why someone might do something to hurt us, intentionally or not, and they are rarely black and white; regardless we must find some way to accept what has happened to put us on the road to true forgiveness. Apologies are also helpful, but as we all well know, words and actions are indeed different things. And even if we make the painful choice of no longer being with the person, we must forgive them, in order to be able to open to others.

Many spiritual and psychological traditions stress the importance of mutual respect, knowing ourselves, as well as learning to avoid strong or immediate reactions. Naturally this is not so easy when a beloved partner has damaged our trust or sense of closeness, but it is nevertheless an important first step in reaching the point of forgiveness. We’ve all heard of “triggers” – our long-standing buttons, points of particular sensitivity we each uniquely have in varying degree – and our lovers are the ones closest to us who are most likely to bring out such things. While inner work is a necessary part of maturing and learning about ourselves (and other people), relationships offer the best opportunity to have things reflected back to us, things we might not see or get to experience otherwise. Intimacy is the playground within which our deepest feelings can emerge, and hopefully, when with the right person, they can be explored safely and constructively. It is said that holding on to anger is like holding a hot coal in your hand in the hope that it will burn the other person. Forgiveness helps us to let go of that anger, which ultimately only hurts us. But here is the part we must remember – apart from forgiving the other person, and accepting what they’ve done, and in our effort to not build hostilities, resentments, or defenses against the intimacy we’ve come to cherish with the person, there is someone else we must remember to forgive – us. We must forgive ourselves when we feel we have been wronged. We must not blame ourselves, or form negative ideas about ourselves, as if we somehow must have deserved what had happened. Nor should we believe that we were naïve in trusting, believing, or having faith in someone else. People make mistakes, rightly or wrongly. If we are not “perfect”, and we are fallible, then everyone else is, too. And if they are truly important people in our lives, then we can learn to forgive, to sort it out, to let go, and open to new possibilities of relating together, and most importantly, growing and changing together. That way we can avoid resenting the other most important person in our lives… by Jason Martineau

ravelling Malaysia and Indonesia is a once in a lifetime adventure. There are many ways to get there and getting around is even easier. You can use one of the many low cost carriers, wellestablished bus or taxi services. We entered via Kuala Lumpur, which we preferred over Singapore – but this is totally up to you and not the last choice you got to make, if your time is limited to a few weeks only. Kuala Lumpur is more Asian and vibrant whereas Singapore got all the exciting architecture. Either way both are totally worth a stop for like two to three days. If you are into wildlife, hiking and scuba diving Borneo is the place to go. They got the highest mountain in the region, which is Mount Kinabalu with 4095 meters. The bio diversity around this area is amazing. You are advised to book well in advance, as Kinabalu Parkis is a nature reserve with limited visitors a day. If you want to make it to the summit booking becomes mandatory. This is a guided two days hike with an overnight stay above 3000 meters. You will be at the summit for sunset. It is exhausting but totally worth it. A trip to Borneo can be combined with a visit at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. There is a luxury lodge nearby which makes a perfect treat after climbing Mount Kinabalu. In places like Sipadan, which is one of Jacques Cousteau’s top rated spots in the world, there is excellent scuba diving.

remote – very small islands, which are a popular destination for tourists looking for a exactly this kind of island experience. They offer everything from nightlife to laid back sun bathing. Going even further east there is Lombok with its majestic Vulcans. We also wanted to see the Komodo dragons on Komodo Island, but even if we could have got one of adventurous boat trips to Komodo, getting a flight back to Bali or Lombok was a completely different story and highly unlikely. If you are lucky and time and money is of no concern going all the way to Papua New Guinea and Australia would probably be your choice. Else if you are people like us it is time to go home and enjoy all the incredible pics you took along.

From Borneo it’s easiest to go back to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur to fly to other destinations in Indonesia. We flew to Bali to explore the Island, some of the places mentioned in “Eat Pray Love” and also some yet rather unknown hidden places – like Sekumpul waterfalls. If you feel comfortable with left-hand driving your best option is to rent a car in Kuta and get away from the crowds as fast as possible. In case you want to see the more remote areas and hidden spots a 4x4 is highly recommended. Be careful with corrupt Bali Police though. Bali is dotted with temples, rice patties, waterfalls and hot springs. In case you still got time to travel going further east you will explore the lovely Gili Islands – which can be reached via ferries and fast boats. The Gilis are three

ABOUT US My wife Karoline and I are a married couple in our mid thirties based in the greater Berlin area Germany. We met almost seven years ago fortuitously on the street, fell in love, moved in together, travelled the whole world, got married and live happily ever after. Just recently our daughter Klara was born. She is adorable and our most exciting and yet most challenging adventure yet. Being all day in office buildings in our day jobs we love to travel, be in the country side, encounter new countries, cultures and people a lot.

HEIDI KLUM´S TOP MODEL

BETTY TAUBE

Betty became 4th on Heidi Klum’s Model casting show, and won over the hearts of the audience and the designers. With her big curly hair and her charming character, she rocks the runway, shoots advertising campaigns for Gillette Venus, and travels the globe. We had the chance to ask our covergirl a few questions about fame, family, and her future. FSHN: You are very popular in Germany. Can you explain to the American reader why you are so famous? BT: I participated in Heidi Klum’s show called “Germany’s Next Top Model” when I was 18 years old, and I [came in] 4th. Since then my modelling career kicked off, and I am travelling around the world enjoying life. I also do a lot of TV commercials and work for German TV productions which I enjoy as well. FSHN: How was it for you to be in the limelight at such a young age? BT: It was very unreal and it took some time getting used to. Being the center of attention and to have people recognise me on the street was really new to me.It all started one morning when Heidi Klum picked me up at my house while I was having breakfast with my friends. It was the moment she told me that I was going to be on the show. It was very exciting, and I didn’t know what to expect. The good part was that I’d just graduated from high school, and I didn’t have any plans for the future yet, so I would say it was perfect timing. Now, of course, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. FSHN: What changed the most after you’ve participated in Germany’s Next Top Model by Heidi Klum ? BT: Everything! My friends and family remained the same, but my daily routine changed completely. Before, I used to get up and go to school, etc. And now, I don’t really have a strict routine, because every job is different. I meet so many interesting people and travel so much. FSHN: You have 1 million followers on Facebook and 600K on Instagram. You were also the darling of the show. Why do you think people are so interested in you? BT: I have actually thought about this a lot, and I guess that it is because I always stayed true to myself. I didn’t pretend or fake anything. I saw that a lot of the other girls on the show changed quite a lot as soon as the cameras were on. I didn’t feel the need to do that. and just did what I thought was right, regardless of the cameras. I think the viewers noticed that and liked my authenticity.

FSHN: People can see all of your adventures on Instagram. You recently traveled to Taiwan, Tokyo, Ibiza… Which is your favourite city? Do you enjoy travelling, or do you sometimes miss your old, relaxed life? BT: I absolutely love travelling! I’ve travelled so much already, but I still have so much to discover. I felt really at home when I was in Los Angeles. People had a great vibe, and followed their dreams. I also really liked Singapore and Bali, the weather is so nice, and it is definitely an experience because it is so different from all the European countries. FSHN: What would’ve been your alternative to modelling? BT: After graduating high school, I applied for a degree in forensic science. I found out that I got accepted to the course while we were already filming the show. I think

if I would’ve known earlier, I would’ve definitely gone for the degree. But this way, I am able to work, have a dream job, and the possibility to study later. I’ve still got plenty of time. FSHN: What do you do while you’re not modelling or acting ? BT: I normally dance around the house wearing sweat pants and just enjoy the time off. I also try to spend as much time as possible with my friends and family. That’s very important to me. FSHN: Do you work and travel a lot in the USA? Have you been signed by an American model agency yet? BT: The first and last time I’ve been to America was with the show. My grandfather is actually from America, but unfortunately, I’ve never met him. As mentioned before, I love America, and I am currently searching for agencies in New York and Los Angeles. I would even consider living there for some time. I think that would be amazing! FSHN: What are your plans for the future? What dreams would you like to fulfill? BT: For a few years, I’ve dreamt about learning how to fly a plane, and I want to get my pilot’s license. I am also a big fan of skydiving, motocross, and rollercoasters… I’m an adrenaline junkie. I recently bought my first car, a Chevrolet Camaro, which has been a big dream of mine! It hasn’t arrived yet, but I am super excited. I have a big passion for cars and know everything about them. FSHN: I read that you’ve recently got a special tattoo. Can you tell us more about it? BT: I’ve always wanted a tattoo, but I also knew that for my job, it is not very convenient, so I first had the idea to get a tattoo on the sole of my foot, but one shouldn’t get it in the summertime because of swelling, so I postponed it. I still really wanted one though, so I decided to get one on my arm, in white. It isn’t very flashy because it is white, and it looks a little like a scar. It says ‘ Life is my runway,’ which I though was quite appropriate. FSHN: As a model you have to be fit and healthy all the time. Do you go to the gym a lot? BT: I actually don’t! I always want to, but then I just don’t do it. I also don’t drink enough water, and was taken to hospital a few times because of dehydration. Not good! Luckily, I have a really good metabolism, although i think my body has changed, now that I am 20 years old. Last Christmas, I really had to try not to eat too much chocolate, which was really hard for me. I also once tried out ‘Teetox’, it was too hard for me because i really enjoy eating. It did work, though! FSHN: Tell us something about you that your fans probably don’t know yet. BT: I used to do showjumping for a couple of years, and actually participated in competitions. I loved it and was really good at it.

ARTIST INTERVIEW

CHEZ NICOLETTE

© ANDRES OYUELA

L

ike many young artists, Nicole is in search of herself, questioning society and using the limitless world of art to express her opinion in a very unique manner. Said in her words:

“Attempt to define myself within the context of a society which limits me, measures me, feeds me with limitless information that I am forced to swallow, and categorises me. I seek for myself behind words, behind culture, behind time, and behind femininity…and, to take advantage of the opportunity the art world gives me, because unlike society; Art has no limits…I realise that we are art, that I am Art, and that if art is limitless, there is an escape from the entrapping society that surrounds me, that surrounds all youth, and that entraps other women…’ - Nicole Furman FSHN: How would you describe your work? Even though the content of my work varies from series to series, the general aesthetic and even medium of my work I would describe as both pop and surrealist. I attempt to create things that are beautiful or that value the traditional aspects of “what is art” like color, symmetry, texture, etc. while at the same time seeking to challenge the viewer through the more controversial meaning of my work, and above all, by forcing the viewer into seeing a nude body as a canvas over pornography! FSHN: What made you change from working in finance to being a full time artist? I’ve always been enamoured by the arts, the possibility to dream and create mixing colors, textures, patterns, surrealist thoughts, the possibility to communicate creatively. I’ve been an “informal” artist my entire life, exploring a wide array of techniques, from photography, to painting, printmaking, video art and installation. However, I’ve also always been very much into numbers and economics, and the rational side of me wanted to seek knowledge and some financial independence first, or maybe the cowardly side of me was afraid to be so vulnerable (in the arts you are your work, and the public’s reaction then has a big effect on you even if you try to create distance) and begin my artistic career earlier on. Now, as a full time artist, I look back and wouldn’t have changed that path, as it allows me to understand society from a very different point of view. FSHN: Do you think that coming from a finance background you now have an advantage to selling and promoting your own work? Yes, definitely. In finance you are taught to be incredibly efficient, organised, and strategic – it’s all about clear communication, goal setting and steps to achieve this. Being an artist, intrinsically means utter freedom, in every sense, what you want to create, how you create it, when you create it, when you chose to show it, where you chose to show it, and the list is infinite. It’s so “free” that sometimes that lack of structure is terribly frightening and requires excessive self discipline. I think my skill set from my finance background has given me much more guidance in that sense, as a practicing artist. FSHN: What role does fashion play in your work and your personal life?

POWER FASHION ISSUE 2015 Fashion is something I adore- I find fashion and fashion designers for that matter to be artists in and of themselves, playing around with creation, expression, color and texture. I find fashion to be very playful and think of fashion as an additional element of fun and fantasy in my life - not something to be taken too seriously but more to enjoy and explore! I wouldn’t say fashion plays any role in my work generally speaking, even though I’m currently working on a hand painted capsule collection with a Colombian fashion house which I love.

FSHN: Where do you take your inspiration from? I’m inspired by mostly anything, urban rawness, especially of developing or disorganised cities, and people, their bodies, their interactions, and all the intricacies by which they let society rule them. I’m inspired, inspired to reject and question mostly, by all the institutions, official and unofficial in society, which seek to control the way in which we are supposed to think, behave or react to something- this ranges from government, to religion, to varying ideologies that “govern” friendship structures, family traditions, media, and others. Aesthetically, I’m inspired by traditional beauty, like symmetry in historical archeology or the colors of nature, while I’m also inspired by destruction, like old torn down buildings, or the beauty of chaos. FSHN: Tell us a little about your technique and what materials you use? All my works are large scale photographies, but the underlying medium with which I work is body painting. I paint my human models or my human canvases (both men and women depending on the work) and then I paint and create all other elements which will be part of the work. Once all the painting is done I take a photograph of the work, and the end piece is a photograph of that which was painted and no longer exists. To that extent, I toy around with the ideal of the permanence of the ephemeral, as my work is a mere memory of that which was created and was washed away. FSHN: You live and work in Bogota. Could you ever imagine living and working in a different Country/City? Yes! The ideology behind what I do, in which I seek to questions societal preconceptions, and express these through art that highlight aesthetic beauty is something I can explore and develop anywhere and everywhere in the world. In fact, I would say that my questioning, and creations for that matter, go beyond the geographic border of my country (although I know my culture and history here has guided a lot of my creations) and involve more universal elements. FSHN: You’ve been to all the big art fairs worldwide London, Berlin, Miami… What is your next big step in your career? I’ve been very lucky to be able to show my work in shows in London, Berlin, Miami, Bogota, Lima and Shanghai. I create for a public. What is the point of questioning, and then seeking a vastly universal way to portray my concerns or findings, if I have no public to share it with- no people to motivate to question as well? In that sense then, my hope for my career is to continue showing to more and more people in more and more places around the world. visit: www.cheznicolette.com Interview by Frida Féline Fuchs FSHN | 121

INTERVIEW

Byron Mann W

hile he is best known for his performances in “Street Fighter,” “The Man with the Iron Fists,” and the CW’s “Arrow,” Byron Mann is charging forward with full force and an incredibly stacked resume to back him.

Byron most recently starred opposite Steven Segal and Vinnie Jones in the Lionsgate action film, “Mercenary: Absolution,” which was released on May 15th in select theaters and video on demand. Mann also stars in the psychological thriller “Jasmine,” which recently held its world premiere at the Hong Kong International Film Festival and its U.S. debut at the Dallas International Film Festival. While Byron is certainly no stranger to the big screen, he is currently working on the financial drama, “The Big Short,” in New Orleans, with an ensemble cast that includes Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell, and Marisa Tomei. The film is based off of Michael Lewis’ book “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine,” which tells the story of the 2008 financial collapse through the eyes of a group of investors that essentially figured out how to “short” the market prior to the markets collapse. Byron can currently be seen on the fifth and final season of AMC’s “Hell on Wheels.” He plays Chang, a very powerful businessman that is the primary Chinese labor contractor fighting for control in the construction of the Central Pacific Railroad. His character was able to build a small empire in Truckee’s Chinatown off of his workers and the sale of their specialized food, including sundries. The final season will consist of 14 episodes and will be split into two parts, with part one airing this summer and part two airing in the summer of 2016. This season of “Hell on Wheels” premiered on July 18th and airs Saturdays at 9PM PST/EST on AMC.

126

FSHN : If you could describe your dream role, what would it be? BM : It’s tough for me to answer that because I don’t have one. I’m currently working on AMC’s “Hell on Wheels,” and the role that I am playing is almost very close to a dream role – it’s complex, multifaceted, interesting, and incredible. You don’t really know [your dream role] until you see it and come across it. FSHN : As an actor, you’re always doing something to prepare for a role whether it is doing research or practicing your lines. What would you say is the hardest part about your job? BM : I think that the hardest part of my job is twofold. One is longevity – it’s not hard to get one role and beat out everybody to get the role but to do it twice, three times, and to do it a hundred times through the course of your career, that takes stamina, determination, and to a certain extent, it takes skill. It really boils down to passion. You have to like what you’re doing because if you don’t like it or like it so-so it becomes really difficult. FSHN : You’re the new “big bad” for the fifth and final season of AMC’s HELL ON WHEELS. Can you dish on what else we can expect from your character? BM : Well, I can tell you that it is a very great role. My character is kind of like the rival to Anson Mount’s character Cullen Bohannon. He’s a very interesting character from China but he’s in this railroad situation and is a powerful man that is very connected. It’s an interesting relationship that he has with Cullen Bohannon. It’s fascinating because through the course of the whole season you will get to see it develop.

Jocko Sims W

POWER FASHION ISSUE 2015

ith a bustling career in the entertainment industry, actor and musician Jocko Sims is currently making his mark in Hollywood as one of the year’s hottest actors to watch. Growing up, the former Texas native had originally planned on becoming either a doctor or a dentist. However, after attending the University of Houston, he had a change of heart and decided to try something completely different instead – drama. Sims went on to transfer to the University of California, Los Angeles where he graduated with a degree in Drama. After graduating from college he began to land guest spots in hit TV shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Cold Case,” and “NCIS.” He was also a series regular in Starz first original series, “Crash.”

Just recently, Sims completed filming on his latest feature film, “The Sweet Life.” The film is a mixture of drama and comedy and stars Abigail Spencer and Chris Messina. It is expected to open sometime in 2016. With his hectic schedule, it is hard to imagine that Sims has time to pursue music, another passion of his. However, each week he hosts “Apollo Night LA,” a radio show that showcases unsigned music artists.

Last summer Sims appeared opposite Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, and Keri Russell, in the box office hit and critically acclaimed, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” Shortly after the film’s release, Sims appeared in the second season of Showtime’s period piece drama “Masters of Sex,” in a recurring role. For his portrayal of Robert Franklin, a civil rights activist and member of CORE (Congress of Racial Equality), he received praise from both critics and fans of the show.

After a devastating pandemic wipes out 80 percent of the world’s population, Lt. Carlton Burk (Jocko Sims), and the ship’s commanding officer (Eric Dane), along with other members of the crew, must do everything in their power to protect Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) –who has developed a cure for the virus. The second season of “The Last Ship” premiered on June 21, 2015, on TNT, and airs Sunday nights at 9:00 PM PST/EST. By Christopher Renteria

Sims currently stars on the hit TNT’s post-apocalyptic action thriller series “The Last Ship,” opposite Rhona Mitra and former Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane. Sims plays Lt. Carlton Burk, the head of the Tactical Teams on the USS Nathan James.

YOUR ZODIAC SIGN’S COSMIC TRUTH ARIES Mar. 21 - Apr.20

TAURUS Apr.21 – May 21

GEMINI May 22- June 21

CANCER June 22 - July 22

In love you like to be the white knight, saving the damsel/gent in distress. This rarely turns out well. You can put your love of a challenge into other areas of your life - your career or personal goals, or saving something in the world. You will be a dynamo in those arenas, and your relationship life will be so much happier. Your romantic partner needs to be physically around. They need to enjoy sensuality, and the simple, basic pleasures of life. They need to stretch you - gently. Entertain possibilities outside your comfort zone with your partner.

How does the butterfly (Gemini) land on one person, bond with that person, and stay bonded? Choose someone who will keep you guessing, yet knows how to be constant and stable in love. They give you space, but they show up when they say they will.

Try this on for size - Find times to be really honest with your romantic partner. You are so diplomatic, they’ll be able to take it. Yes, it’s scary for you to do this. It will make you feel so much better, and it will spark the relationship. LIBRA Sept. 23 - Oct. 23

SCORPIO Oct. 24 - Nov. 22

SAGITTARIUS Nov. 23 - Dec. 22

You don’t need to mother your romantic partner! Really. Turn the tables - let your romantic partner nurture and support youperiodically. Kind of kinky and fun! And great for stimulating fresh energy in your relationship. CAPRICORN Dec. 23 - Jan. 20

Develop the fine art and skill of really listening to your partner, and to what is going on with them. Focus completely on them. They will love you for this - and you will feel so much more appreciated - which you love. LEO July 23 - August 22

VIRGO August 23 - Sept. 22

You can let go of helping/serving/fixing/ organizing your partner and their life, from time to time. Instead, do something with your romantic partner that is a total immersion and enjoyment of the moment - a mutual letting go into some fun, wonderful experience. If it’s romantic, even better!

Develop the fine art of forgiving your partner for past hurts/wrongs. Your holding on to this energy is getting in the way of aliveness in your relationship. How do you do this? First, forgive yourself - have compassion for yourself.

Choose a trusted friend - someone who is objective, intuitive, relationship-savvy, and knows you well. Ask them to give you an honest assessment of your romantic relationship, or your relationship patterns. Consider that they might be right - take this to heart. It will help heal your rosy-colored glasses blind spot. In your overly-busy, accomplishment-oriented, type A work-obsessed life, schedule in quality time to just have fun and enjoy your romantic partner. Both of you will love this. And, focus on your own personal needs and desires - let your partner manage their own life. Transformation!

AQUARIUS Jan. 21 - Feb. 19

Find a way to tell your romantic partner something really personal about what is going on with you, or about you in general. This won’t be easy for you. As much as you can, fall on your sword - be vulnerable. If you have the right partner, they will love you for this - and probably great sex is just around the corner.

PISCES Feb. 20 - Mar. 20

You don’t have to be the saviour/healer of a wounded duck, and looking for a savior/healer/provider for yourself is not advisable either.
