September is my favorite month of the year. I can still experience the full glow of the sun on my skin.

I can still continue to swim in warm water yet the light shifts into the autumn shade, which psychologically shifts us into work, school and highest productivity month. For most of us, it is a welcomed change after months long relaxation. This brings us to the closet for September transitional wardrobe; matches between silks and leather as a perfect combination of summer and autumn. I find that white silk shirts against summer skin layered with leather to break the autumn wind are most practical and elegant for the month of September. Use September as a trendsetter month for the work place through our wardrobe. The blending of summer relaxation with the beginng of autumn career plans, reflects our level of motivation for life and all that it brings with it. Remember September is the most creative month of the year. This is the month you implemnet all your new energy, knowledge, and prespective into your work ethic and creativity.

DRESSING for THE HEAT

The power of attire is only properly evidenced when one dresses within the lines of etiquette. The fashion in which one adorns him- or herself sends a clear message. It is important to make an impression, while holding true to the unspoken rules of dress. It can be contradictory. Often, when wanting to make an impact people gravitate toward loud and outlandish garments. This is a reasonable approach but often goes awry when one crosses the line from attentiongrabbing to creating a fashion faux pas.

Women often emphasize their sexuality as a way of maximizing their fashion statement. Dressing with a sensual flair can be done; however, it must be achieved subtly.

I believe that your ensemble should look as if it were an accident that you happen to look sexy. Instead of drawing attention to cleavage or curves, one might select a flattering pattern or a flashy color instead. The appropriate length for one’s skirt or dress may vary. I would suggest that one’s

palms always touch the fabric when hanging down at one’s sides. Shorter or longer arms might provide different results. However, if the dress or skirt is simply too short, it will be obvious. It is important to keep in mind that one’s presentation is a powerful tool, and it is best to impart this in a dignified manner.

Gentlemen are often thought of as boring dressers. Inherently, they simply have fewer options. Therefore, they sometimes turn to bold clothing choices, including low-cut V necks or unbuttoning too many buttons. Dressing in a classic fashion can never disappoint. Under no circumstances should men attend important meetings, cocktail parties, or other similar events without a tie.

Keeping one’s dress dignified and politically correct is the most effective way to keep your ensemble powerful!

Interview: SAM MARTIN

FSHN: How did Apothecary 87 begin?

SM: Before starting Apothecary 87 I was working at the top of my industry as a bartender/event organiser. However after starting my own bar company I found people didn’t take me seriously as I looked too young, so I decided to grow a beard. Strangely enough I found people took me far more seriously with my beard which led to the obvious conclusion; keep the beard.

Anyone who has ever grown a beard will understand the high upkeep needed to maintain and condition a good quality beard. I looked for a beard oil but couldn’t find what I needed on the market. I tried a wide range of products but nothing seemed to do what I needed it to. One product I tried, instead of moisturising my beard, actually dried it out! Nothing seemed to reduce my facial itchiness, condition my beard hair or basically help with my beard grooming requirements. Added to this, all the fragrances seemed to be very femininely scented. It was at this point I decided to start researching the very best ingredients to make my own oil that would do everything I wanted it to. I started to gain a following on social media with people asking me how I maintained my beard and had friends requesting me to make some oil for them. I started making it for my friends and before I really realised it, I was making it on a production level.

FSHN: What’s the meaning behind the name Apothecary 87?

SM: At the time of creating the brand my grandfather was battling with prostate cancer and sadly passed away. He was such an inspiration to me and was the MANliest MAN I knew. I wanted to honour him and show how important an influence he was on my life that I felt I wanted to include a part of him in my brand name. He was an amazing, fit 87 years old when he passed away and I was born in 1987. What better way to create a link than to bring that number into the brand name. This combined with my love of all things vintage and mixing my own beard tonic, Apothecary 87 was born.

FSHN: How would you describe a well groomed man?

SM: A well groomed MAN is not merely a MAN who uses great products on his hair and body, but a MAN who can present himself in his own desired way, through all aspects of his lifestyle.

FSHN: What is #TheManClub and how do you join?

SM: The Man Club was created as a way for MEN to show solidarity and to give Apothecary 87 a feeling of belonging. Anyone who buys any of our products automatically gets entry to The Man Club. They will find a membership card inside every box of our products, with a place for the member to attach their own passport photo. We have dif-

FSHN: With talks of the beard trend on the decrease how do think this will effect your business?

SM: This is something that has been talked about for a very long time now and as much as the media perceive this, we have not seen a decrease in either the number of men with beards or a decline in our beard oil sales. Bearing this in mind we are not a beard care brand; we are a men’s grooming brand. We sell products in areas such as hair care and shaving and will be launching (in the very near future) some very exciting new grooming products for men. We found members of The Man Club have solidarity to the brand and are eagerly waiting to see what new products we have in store.

We are sure they are going to love them.

FSHN: Do you have any new products on the way?

SM: We’re always working on new products. As I hinted at earlier, we have we have 3 immediate products soon to be launched and 2 more before the end of the year. This is a very exciting time for us as we will be branching in to new areas with new original fragrances and collaborating with some of the biggest names in the business.

FSHN: Where do you see the brand in 5 years time?

SM: This is a very easy question for us. We would like to be selling our products in every country in the world. To date we have sold to over 95 countries. We will soon be opening our flagship store in LA and hopefully have more stores across the USA and the UK.

Interview: TRIG PEREZ FSHN: What would a man need in your opinion, to be a well groomed man?

TP: Confidence is key and being aware of what fits YOU and your style and being comfortable in your own skin lets your style expand.

FSHN: Having a beard is very on trend at the moment.

What type of man can really pull it of though?

TP: I feel like if you can grow it then go for it! Nobody could tell me if I could or could not grow one so why should I? But go for it beards are great!

FSHN: Can you give us some tips and tricks on how to properly keep out beard neat and groomed.

TP: Well I do not trim at all but making sure to only brush it once a day is one of my tips. Brushing it too much breaks the hair and keeps a beard looking ratty. Also make sure to put on your Apothecary 87 beard oils right on after you get out of the shower.

FSHN: Thank you, we’ve now got an idea of what Apothecary87 is. Now tell us a little about yourself, since you are the face with the wonderful beard,representing A87 here

TP: Oh man, I’m just a biker who happens to get his photo taken. It’s definitely a great gig and sometimes don’t believe it’s a real thing that I do. But me, I just a jack of all trades I guess, I’m always ready to learn something new and tackle new aspects of life.

FSHN: Why did you decide to work for A.87 and what do you love about your profession?

TP: The friendship I created with Sam Martin (owner of Apothecary 87) was the foundation of working together. Wanting to help out with the growth of his company in America blossomed into a full time gig. It’s great to see a good friend succeed and know you’re doing your best to help. In fact I think that’s exactly what I love about my profession.

FSHN: What are your goals for the future? What are you ambitious about?

TP: I’m trying to tackle each day as it comes the best I can!

For the future, whatever I’m involved in I’m just hoping happiness is part of it.

She was one of the first Spanish fashion bloggers, she is a model, a journalist, a Dj and a fashion aficionado. There is nothing this woman can’t do. If you haven’t had the chance to check out her blog, you should definitely not miss out on this one. She carefully selects here content of high quality fashion shootings adding a nicely curated text in Spanish and English, which offers the reader a beautiful insight into her world.

FSHN: When and why did you start blogging? Did you have a concept/plan?

CA: I started blogging when I was 17 years old. I were already blogging for a while before my blog became successful.

FSHN: What changed? Why do you think your blog became so popular?

CA: I’m one of the first fashion bloggers in my country, I started my blog when almost anyone knew about it, so that helped me

FSHN: What makes your job so special?

CA: Working as a fashion blogger is so much fun. You get to know a lot of different people, do amazing network and learn a lot about the fashion and communication business. Now I’ve

become my own brand, I represent my own style, values and way of life... isn’t that great and special?

FSHN: Where do you take your inspiration from? Or do you get up in the morning and just do a spontaneous shooting of your #OOTD ?

CA: I don’t follow any rule. Sometimes I wake up and I know exactly what I’m going to do and sometimes I just need a whole lot of inspiration. I get inspired by fashion magazines and the Internet.

FSHN:Like many other people, i also thought about starting a blog. But there is this one question i always ask myself. Who takes your day to day photos? Does someone follow you around 24/7?

CA: I don’t have a photographer that works with me 24/7 but I have some contacts. When I’m in Barcelona I usually shoot with a fashion photographer that is based in the city and we arrange some days during the week to shoot my looks. I also shoot with my friend Zina Charkoplia and we have a lot of fun. And, of course, when my boyfriend’s not very busy with work he likes to help me out. He’s a great photographer.

FSHN:If a young fashion enthusiast would want to start a blog now in 2015. What would you recommend them,how should they start?

CA: No matter what, always update your blog with good stuff. Quality over quantity. Keep things simple and be active with your social media: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter...

FSHN: Lately there’s been a lot of controversy about bloggers getting paid to promote Labels but a lot of bloggers deny this. What is your opinion, do you think it is OK to get free stuff and promote it on Social Media pretending its something you bought? or do you think is should clearly be labeled as an advertisement for a brand?

CA: I truly believe that people can notice that. I mean, you can guess when it’s a promoted post based on the hashtags,

texts, etc. I don’t have anything against that. Bloggers and labels work together and as long as you feel comfortable with the products you’re promoting, everything’s fine. I would never post about a product or a brand that wouldn’t fit my blog and personal style. So who cares if i got paid or not? It’s my work, it’s my decision and I’m not fooling anyone.

FSHN: What is your next big project? What are you looking forward to?

CA: Lately I’m just going with the flow and I feel good. I have a lot of things going on and I’m trying not to stress over things. I would like to keep growing with my blog, get to travel more, learn to produce music and shoot all over the world. Oh! and probably I’ll write a book one of these days...

FSHN: You are also working as a Dj. How did this happen?

CA: I started djing 2 years ago and I’m in love with everything that has to do with it. I’m such a music-lover and I’d always wanted to be related with the music world. I also love singing. It all started when Aristocrazy called me because they wanted me to be the dj of a fashion event and I just said yes. I learnt a few things and I did it. It all turned out well. After that gig I focused on learning how to mix and create my own sets. Now, as I said before, my next step is to learn how to produce my own music.

Give me a little bit of time and you’ll see.

FSHN: Where would you want to be in 5 years? Do you think you will still be blogging?

CA: I don’t know. I think blogs are being replaced by other platforms, so probably in 5 years I’ll be reinventing myself. I would like to work in the fashion or music industry, but you never know.

In order to have fresh and clean face you have to wash it and then apply cleanser. Cleaning your face twice a day is like brushing your teeth, it needs to be done.

So back to cleaning the face, I prefer Oil Cleansing method to get rid of all the dirt, because oil binds oil thus dirt. After that find a good face wash not to strong and not to mild. In the morning I like to take a sensitive wash and in the evening I prefer gel. Every second or third day I do a sensitive scrub, with enzyme and once a week a Mask.

A mist for sensitive skin, what I also use during the day, it is very refreshing. Hydration booster if needed and a cream.

I switch sometimes from a gel cream to a little bit more greasy cream and of course I use day time sun protection spf 50.I also have a day eye cream and evening eye cream.

I always had problems with my skin and then after 15 years I found my brand and I know It´s not that easy to find one.

It’s always good to listen to your body and feel your skin.

Feel what is missing, do not save on cheap product, and invest on products that contain good ingredients. Avoid sugar and fast food. Spend and walk sometime in the park and do some exercises.Smile and Enjoy life.

For me was Dermalogica. Since then I know how to use it, when I have pimples or dryness. The skin it’s not the same

The Arrangement

by Jason Martineau Recently, a story about a certain business website having been hacked made national headlines. This is not surprising news in an age when everyone and everything is online. Cybercrime is a big business, and it seems we hear about a new instance of hacking every week. But in this case, credit cards of the site’s users were not the intended target, but instead the site’s list of users. What would make a list of users so valuable?

formation as fairly as I can. Doubtless there are numerous other websites offering similar services or related ones; these are just some high-profile examples. Having read through these sites, their FAQs, and having viewed some public profiles (which do not require a person to join in order to see), the whole thing got me thinking…what is an arrangement? And how, if at all, is it different from a so-called traditional relationship?

The site was none other than ashleymadison.com. The site’s tagline? “Life is short. Have an affair.” They bill themselves as the most recognized and reputable married dating company, promising that “…cheating husbands and wives” will find an opportunity for a discreet affair. Additionally the site boasts a membership of over 38 million users. While they appear to offer the service internationally and to people in same-sex marriages, nevertheless the site seems overwhelmingly geared toward heterosexual English-speaking US residents. With over 59 million currently active marriages of that type in the US as of 2014 (according to several reputable online sources, including the CDC), this means, excluding those other cases, as much as a fourth of the married population of the United States might be using the site. Now imagine who some of those people might be, and how concerned they would be of their secret indiscretions being made public. How many celebrities, politicians, or other notable public personas might be among those listed in the user base?

In the case of ashleymadison.com, clearly the question of monogamy is out the window. Nevertheless an arrangement is here. Users have to agree to certain do’s and don’ts. They have to agree to protect each other’s privacy, and abide by numerous other terms that the site outlines. It is probably safe to assume that in many extramarital affairs, the person being cheated on would probably not appreciate finding out the truth. So the arrangement here would appear to be that two people agree to have an uncommitted sexual liaison, or string of them, while not damaging each other’s personal lives. They do it under a strict list of rules and guidelines, or they risk losing access to the service. Affairs that occur “in the wild” of course are not limited in this way, and so sometimes can have vastly worse consequences.

I soon thereafter heard of another “dating” site known as seekingarrangement.com. What is their product? They offer a tool for Sugar Babies to find Sugar Daddies (or for Sugar Baby men to find Sugar Mommas, though the site is overwhelmingly geared toward the former). Their tagline is, “Where beautiful, successful people fuel mutually beneficial relationships,” and they claim an active membership of 4.5 million users, with a 3:1 ratio of Babies to Daddies and Mommas.

Now, I will not publicly nor privately make an endorsement nor indictment of such sites, nor the people who use them. For those of you who have followed my articles over the years, you know that I strive to present in58

The other site actually indicates that facilitating arrangements is their mission and service. The overwhelming majority of users on this site are older, wealthy men, and younger, beautiful women. I have personally seen such “arrangements” in everyday life, between people who did not use this website. They are not necessarily long-term, and they do not necessarily include or require love or emotional attachment. But given that there is sufficiently high demand for this kind of arrangement, I began to wonder – apart from those last two elements, how different is this from romantic love?

The difficulty for beautiful women in finding a committed, loving relationship is the same difficulty for wealthy men who desire the same: how do they know that the other person is genuinely interested in them, and not with them just for their assets? How can they be sure that they are appreciated and desired for who they really are, inside, as well as

outside? It is a difficult assessment to make without plenty of additional data.

Analysis: all relationships are, in part, agreements. The parties agree to what they will or will not do. Some of these agreements are spoken, and some are unspoken or assumed. We might get into trouble when we fail to adhere to or articulate those agreements, but they are agreements just the same. The glaring difference appears to be something else. In a simple arrangement, there is something conscious and intentional about the entire enterprise – you give me this, I will give you that. These exchanges tend to be conditional. Both parties also understand that in time, the arrangement might, and probably will, end. When it

comes to these websites, the usual fuel for bringing people together is lust, loneliness, ego, or the securing of resources and opportunities (gifts, travel, sex). Love, however, while being an agreement as well, has the additional factor of being something greater than either party can simply intend or not intend. We cannot control love, we either feel it or do not. We can learn to love someone, perhaps. We can learn to nurture love, definitely; and we should, if we want it to last – but we cannot expect it to be present where it either does not exist, or is not required. So, as you all pursue your ideal companions in life, whether they are right or just right now, always bear in mind what agreements your arrangements require, and, most importantly, don’t confuse them…

There are many woods in this dream—the wooded shack, the wooded forest—so much so that they call into play the phonetic rendering of the word wood: Would. This conditional verb beautifully signifies the maturational process of adolescence as a time of indefiniteness, and at the same time aptly expresses the meaning of the phrase: I am in the woods.

A paternal dependency is also recognized: The wolves— 60

symbolizing the dangerously wild instinctive side of the psyche—must be kept at bay by Tamara’s heroic father who reigns supreme and who is there to keep her in line.

Although being alone in a room reveals the wish for fierce independence, the wish is conflicted. An awareness of the need for paternal protection nullifies this wish. When the external world is viewed as a threat, more time may be justifiably spent in the safety of the parental home.

I

stanbul, this magical city, which I know since my childhood days, didn’t lose any of its fascination over the many decades. On the contrary, when I decided in early 2008 to live there for the time being, I couldn’t imagine the diversity and the countless opportunities this city was ready to provide me with.

Over the course of four decades I had gathered a lot of memories from my various visits to this city, but yet I knew only a fraction of what this 24/7 pulsating city had to offer. During my two-year stay, I had a lot of opportunities to travel within the city, and to develop a special bond and love with this magical place, called Istanbul. Galata, the city centre of Beyoglu in the European part of town, attracted me for all this time, and I was finally able to find an apartment here. I started out on foot, discovering and often re-discovering the city I have known all this time.

Galata, the so called foreign quarter, was even back in OttomanTimes the home to people from all over the world, and it still is to this day.

After a long hibernation of the area, which lasted from the 1970’s until the early 90’s, the change came subtle in the mid 90’s and affected not only Galata, but also its surrounding neighbourhoods, like Cihangir, Cukurcuma, Tophane und Karaköy; and still continues, with countless cafés, bars, restaurants, boutiques, antique shops, theatres and all other sorts of shopping and entertainment venues. In most recent years, mainly in Tophane and Karaköy, small cafés and galleries enrich these areas.

For sure, the Modern Museum, which is located close to the shore of the Bosporus, was also a prominent contributor to this and influenced the surrounding areas and Istanbul in general.

So, for everyone who wants to dive into the diverse life of

this town, I recommend they check in into one of the many hotels in Beyoglu. From here, all the big sites of the city, like Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, New Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Dolmabahce Sarayi, Yerebatan Sarayi, Istanbul deniz müzesi, to name just a few, are either within walking distance or can be easily reached by the various forms of public transport.

I would like to especially point out the Pedestrian Ferries: They can be used either to bridge short distances like crossing the Golden Horn, visiting the neighbourhoods of Kadiköy, Üsküdar, etc. on the Asian side or to visit the Princess Islands, located approximately 20km away in the Sea of Marmara.

Another thing you shouldn’t miss, is to view the city from the Bosporus. You could either take a special tour, or for a fraction of the amount, take a ferry to Sariyer, to take in the astounding architecture on the shores of the strait, parting Europe and Asia. With a cup of tea or a cold refreshment beverage you become part of the general public, following their daily routines.

One way or another, you should resort to taking a ferry as often as possible, when discovering the city.

Another recommendation would be to explore on foot the area of Galata. No matter whether you are interested in fashion, antiques or art, Galata offers something for everyone. Countless cafés and restaurants present themselves as the perfect place if you need to recharge your batteries or if you simply just want to take it all in, sitting down, resting.

If you want to experience more of an “oriental feel”, shouldn’t miss to throw him-/herself into the big bazar, Kapali Carsi, in the neighbourhood of Eminönü. Not much has changed, and just like thousand years ago, people buy, sell and trade goods from all over the world.

Allow yourself to be surprised.

I personally would advise against visiting red-lighted bars and public Hammams. The latter are often in pretty poor conditions, and don’t offer in my opinion the appropriate atmosphere to relax. If you still long for some water or a swim, get refreshed at the Black Sea at the beach by Kilyos.

Maybe also the annual crossing of the Bosporus is another reason to visit Istanbul, but even without physically swimming between the two continents, you can always become a part of the magic that surrounds Istanbul, and which makes Istanbul magic.

It is a city that can fulfil all your dreams, just like a 1001 night story...

LFU: I was born in México City to a lovely family; I have an older sister whom I am very close with. As a child I spent a lot of time with my grandma who transmitted me a deep love and respect for our Mexican culture going around the country and our city, cooking all kinds of different dishes and getting involved with different arts & crafts projects and music. At the age of 13 I moved with my family to the US and then came back to México City to start medical school, which I dropped out of after two years. I then studied Product Design and, through my graduation project, got an offer to study another Design related bachelor in Germany where I live since 2011.

FSHN: How would you describe your work?

LFU: I think there are three constants in my work, which are reciprocally building and supporting on each other; it is colorful, optimistic and detailed. I pay special attention to the application of color as I try to use and portray all the color nuances I see in a determined scene. One can transport the viewer’s psych into an optimistic color enhanced mood, which guides them into the way I see the world. People sometimes think I use colors that don’t belong to the things I paint, but I certainly just paint things as they appear to me. I strive for my paintings to be a reminder of how beautiful life is just as it is, so either I paint just zoom in details of something or simple scenes or portraits where the facial expression of my subjects is full of dignity and courage, looking forward to whatever comes next in life.

FSHN: When did you start making art?

FSHN: You’ve started studying Medicine back in Mexico, then switched to Product Design and now graduated in Integrated Design in Germany. Are you a man of many interests or was it coincidence?

LFU: It was definitely not a coincidence, as I said before, I have a very detailed way of approaching life and, it being so rich and full of possibilities, makes me reluctant to confide myself solely to a specific field; in addition comes the beautiful but frightening realization that everything in life is somehow intricately connected, everything has an influence on everything. This way of viewing things is constantly reflected in the way I live, I love to have conversations with different kinds of people, visit exotic places and venture myself into projects out of my field of expertise.

FSHN: Now that you graduated are you going to focus more on your art?

LFU: Well, you know, on one side I am thankful for having had the opportunity to get an education, but at the other one, university was very consuming, so there was not much time nor energy left for me to concentrate on my art projects as much as I would have liked to. There is somehow this pressure imposed by society to young people to study as much and as fast as possible and then promptly join the job market and I think this is such a creativity, innovation and motivation killer, since some of the most important lessons in life one actually learns outside of school.

FSHN: Where does your inspiration to paint come from and what artists do you look up to?

LFU: There’s no specific set of things from which I get inspired, I think being alive is already inspiring enough and 116

you’d be surprised about the little things that can trigger new ideas in me, though if I had to mention one thing that particularly inspires me then that’d be some good and witty old literature.

Old masters like Dürer, Vermeer and Van Eyck have been of immense value for my development as an artist because of their impeccable use of the technique, impeccable attention to detail and their ability to draw beauty out of the simplest subjects and scenes. I also look up to artists of the surrealist movement like Magritte, Remedios Varo and Dalí.

FSHN: Tell us a little about your technique and what materials you use?

LFU: I use oil paintings and usually work “alla prima” which means that I add on new layers while the older ones are still fresh and I pretty much continue like this until the end of each piece. This technique requires me to paint in long sessions of 8 to 10 hours since I have to finish each section with fresh colors.For the canvasses, which I construct and prime myself, I use hemp because it is a highly resistant and environmentally friendly crop with antibacterial properties.

FSHN: You come from Mexico but have lived all around the world, how is it working in a different Country/City, do people understand your work differently? Would you consider going back to Mexico?

LFU: Different cultures understand things differently, what some may find funny, for others might be the dullest thing ever, and that’s ok for me. The main point here is actually how living in all these different places has changed my artistic vision; by being able to experience different cultures and learn their languages, new options have been made available in my brain making me able to connect concepts that were conventionally not connected before and see things with a refreshed global perspective. I think art is a great way to trigger social changes and a fair way to give voice to those who don’t have one. As I see the situation of my country worsening with the tricky comeback of the party who once had a dictatorship, I definitely feel I should go back any time soon to extend a helping hand to my people.

FSHN: What is your next big step career wise and would you like to be represented in the US? LFU: At the moment my priority is to finish the series I have been working on for the last 3 years and make a special exhibition with them for which I have designed an innovative displaying concept that turns the exhibition itself into a work of art enclosing many other works within. And yes, definitely I would be delighted not only to be represented in the US, but to be able to do part of my exhibition there too.

Jessica Meraz T

hroughout the course of her career, many people have inspired Jessica Meraz. “I watch actors and actresses and just fall in love with them and then they become my inspiration,” said Meraz.

Currently Anna Faris and Lizzy Caplan are her inspirations.

Jessica recalls back to the defining moment that she decided that she wanted to pursue acting as a career; she said, “It was after a summer camp in Los Angeles at the New York Film Academy. I stayed in Los Angeles for a little while taking acting classes and making short films.” It was after her time at camp that she knew that she had to come back. Thankfully, her family was supportive in her decision. “They were really scared and didn’t know what to expect but they encouraged me to work really hard,” said Meraz.

It’s evident that Jessica has accomplished many of her goals, however, there is one thing that is very special to her. One of the best moments for her was filming a scene in “Chasing Life”. Jessica said, “It was a big scene for Natalie and it was a culmination of a lot of events and emotions.”

Through Jessica’s love of acting, her favorite characters to play are colorful characters.

She loves playing any character with a sense of humor or weirdness to them. Out of all the characters that she has seen on film, Jessica loves the character that Lizzy Caplan played on “The Interview,” the most. “I would love to play that role because she is a really strong character with a sense of humor and owns her sexuality,” said Meraz. Jessica just recently completed filming Season 2 of “Chasing Life” and also appeared in an episode of “Drunk History” that aired earlier this month.

“Chasing Life” has been a huge part of Jessica’s life and she has learned many lessons from her character. Jessica had the following to say about her character, Natalie, “She has 120

done a really good job with forgiving and moving forward in her relationships through the pain and the tragedy. That is a huge lesson to take away. With Season 2 of “Chasing Life”, Natalie really assimilates into this new life and becomes very comfortable in her relationships. When everything is going well with her family relationships, some big event happens that puts a huge wrench in all that which is an explosive moment for her.”

One of Jessica’s favorite things to do, aside from acting, is salsa dancing. “I live in an area where there are salsa clubs and I will sometimes just go by myself because I love it that much,” said Meraz. However, her days always look a little different – when she is not working on a project she is usually preparing for auditions. On a typical day she will wake up at around 7 am, go workout with her friend, and then prepare for any upcoming auditions that she may have. In the evening, she will come home and cook some dinner for herself and then start all over again the next day.

FSHN: What would you say is the toughest part about acting?

JM: A lot of people really struggle with the whole audition process of acting. Many feel that no matter how many auditions they do that they will be rejected. Jessica explains some great tips for finding confidence through these times.

The first thing is to never take anything personally. It is very rare that you are the right match for the part. That being said, appreciate the process and know that there is nothing wrong with you, it just wasn’t the right part.

FSHN: What advice do you have for anyone that is interested in becoming an actor or actress?

JM: Always work really hard because the people who find success are those who are working really hard. Make sure to take care of yourself and find what works for you

Nature Conservation Ties Together Germany, Botswana, China German conservation organization initiates biggest animal release project at Kalahari (Botswana) Abendsonne Afrika contributed to the success of the project with a donation of two big wildebeest herds.

S

AVE Wildlife Conservation Fund Germany and the Wildlife Department Botswana set free 400 wildebeests and 100 elands in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) national park in May this year.

This is the largest number of wild animals that has ever been released at the game reserve. The CKGR is the world’s second largest wildlife reserve in the world, encompassing 52.800 sq kms which is more than the size of Switzerland.

At this time after the delayed rain period all waterholes are highly filled so that the animals have a very good chance of survival.

SAVE initiated the collaborative large-scale project and bought the animals from Grassland Safari Lodge in order to set them free at CKGR. The project required a longer planning phase and at the beginning of this year SAVE finalized its preparation with Botswana’s Ministry of Wildlife.

Also the Chinese embassy in Botswana took part in the project by proportionately financial support of the capturing and transport cost as well as the environmental organization Tlhokomela Trust. The German tour operator

The aim was to resettle as many animals as possible back into the wild. Due to extensive farming, progressive land use and erection of fences the migration of wild animals was strongly affected in the last decades – not to say completely hindered. As a result the CKGR antelope populations were decimated. Especially the number of wildebeest declined so much that it struggled to recover. A previous scientific study which was supported by SAVE revealed this situation. Therefore SAVE’s ambition was to release a big number of animals back into the wild in order to ensure the species population.

To do so the animals had to be captured at the wild animal farm first. The Department of Wildlife and National Parks’ veterinary officers and law enforcement staff were present to ensure that the animals were captured and transported safely. After that the animals remained in bomas so they could recover from the stress and get used to the new environment. The antelopes were released in three areas within the CKGR, namely Motopi, Piper Pan and Xade. The reason behind was to avoid congestion and overgrazing in one area. Spreading the animals around the game reserve will ensure sustainability of the grazing land and the ecosystem.

SAVE intends to realize similar projects which assure species population and ecological balance of CKGR in the future. In addition a monitoring of released animals is planned. This would provide results and impacts as useful data for further animal releases.

The trickster Mercury turns retrograde Sept.

17th through Oct. 9th. It seems that the planet is going backwards in relation to the earth. During this time, anything related to communications - Mercury’s domain - can go haywire. Electronic malfunctions are common, such as computers crashing. E-mails, messages, texts, memos are missed. Communications and directions are not properly understood.

Plans are delayed, often because you are waiting to hear back from someone. Anything started during this time can turn out screwy or strange. It is not a favorable time to send out important communications. Starting a trip during this time is not advised. If you must travel, give yourself extra time to account for screw-ups, such as your luggage not arriving.

When you drive in your car, it seems that detours spring up, and traffic appears worse than normal. Auto malfunctions are not uncommon. GPS systems can mislead you.
