ON THE COVER Landyn Mitz slides his way to another holeshot, and 65A victory, at the Palm Beach Track and Trail Snake River Hare Scramble. For a full race report turn to page 18.

EDITOR’S NOTE

By the time you read this we will only have two hare scrambles and two enduros left in our season. Wow! Pretty crazy right? This year has absolutely flown by. Pretty soon we will all be enjoying our summer break from racing and will be attending the FTR Banquet.

making sure no riders were stuck or hurt and everything ran smoothly.

I have worked the previous two races, SCTB and PBT&TR, and wanted to go into a little bit of detail on what it is like to work an event. For the Suncoast event I had the pleasure of helping man one of the section of the trail. In this role I was responsible for switching all of the Saturday and Sunday splits, arrowing,

For Snake River I had a more fun role, sweeper. In this role I was responsible for making sure the track was cleared and ready for the next race to start. In this role I was able to ride my bike, which is always fun.

February 2022

At the end of the day I was responsible for pulling arrows and pickung up any trash on the trail. Just a little insight on what goes into a work day.

Thanks for reading, Kurt Lucas PAGE 7

PREZ SAYS

A day like no other This experience starts out watching the weather, yes watching what day the rain is coming as the timing has to be just right. Starting to be a regular at the pines, I had to make the trip. Eating dust with loose conditions weeks’ prior, getting rain took priority while making the drive to the sandpit called Croom. Wild card weekend, AKA football playoffs had to take a back seat this Sunday, besides Peacock can update me. Several inches were deposited at the sandpit and that meant that there was going to be epic conditions waiting for anyone that wanted to get dirty. Two and a half hours later, we rolled in and headed to our regular parking area only to find it under water, the pines hadn’t seen that much water in years! So on around the corner and head down to the next parking area. There was enough space to slide in and be near some familiar faces known as the young guns. I know all these kiddos so I figured I would fit right in, besides the restrooms are real close which made the better half real happy. Yeah my regular

buddy had to fly helicopters so I dragged my part time mechanic with me with bribes of you can sit in the van and read, turn on the heat, wrap up in a blanket and sleep as getting up way before daylight was not the IDEAL thing to do on a Sunday morning. As we unloaded, I looked around and thought it can’t be too bad as I know all these kids and their running the right stuff, you know suspension and seats. LOL I should note that there’s two AA riders and the rest are all sporting A’s with one a sportsman and a B rider in the mix.

and needed to step the game up a notch. As we were finishing up, another gray hair rolled up and I felt the pressure of keeping the little 200 pinned slowly dissipating for round two. I politely excused myself from the filming of “Hey, check this out”, a J/A production and hooked up with someone a little more my age and ability. All in all it was good stuff as the boys were having a good time and they kept an eye on me when they turned it up in the woods, but I knew the Johnson lines so I was right there to their surprise!

We did a lot of free riding on the north end of the property which led to you know what. Clean outs, getting parked and your line taken away became the norm as that’s how these kids roll. As we seasoned riders stay off the whooped out trails and roads as much as we can, this group seemed to just accidently find them and just started clicking gears while I’m staying on the side of the whooped out tail eating the roost. Actually it wasn’t that bad as the whoops were solid and damp so you could actually jump a few of them. Speaking of jumping, jumping ditches was in order along with hills we found so there was plenty of action, of course the competition part came out and turned into the X Games real quick. All in all good times and nobody went home in a body bag or my friend wasn’t called in to fly us out so it was a good day.

On a serious note, spending time on a dirt bike with anyone at any age always makes memories and brings the age groups closer, something that seems to be lacking these days. Our sport is one of the few that can do that as our age difference was almost 50 years, but feeling the bond and camaraderie erased that. Spending time with young people always bridges that gap and makes for a healthier relationship in today’s world. Yeah, I’ve known these kids and their parents for some time, but the time spent with any young person is well worth the effort. I know how the parent/child relationship goes and sometimes it takes someone from outside the family to make a difference or to make the young man come around or make something click that can make a difference. These are different times we all are in now and keeping our family and loved ones riding on the right trail in life is very important as we all try to negotiate the ever changing atmosphere around us. Keep your circle tight, do the right thing and don’t let anybody fall out.

The insane jumping into the trees and flat landing (there’s a video somewhere) was off the chart but added a good mixture to our woods shenanigans. Heading back for a PBJ sandwich was in order as we rebooted for the second half with more thrills and spills as I’m sure everyone was getting bored

overcome any fear.

In Psalm 27, David (the man after God’s own heart) wrote these words, “ Light, space, zest— that’s God! So, with him on my side I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing. Starting Line to Checkered Flag… “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 Greetings from winter… as I am writing this, it is Groundhog Day and yes, he saw his shadow; 6 more weeks of winter. I don’t know about you, but this time of year, with its short days and cold temps, can start to wear on me. I start getting feelings of uneasiness, almost light anxiety about everyday things. When I start to have these feelings, I am reminded that God is in full control and faith in Him will

Even as the crazy world around me seems to be falling apart, God remains firm, solid, strong; “When vandal hordes ride down ready to eat me alive, Those bullies and toughs fall flat on their faces. When besieged, I’m calm as a baby. When all hell breaks loose, I’m collected and cool.” The key to that peace and calm is trusting God and wanting nothing more then being with Him in whatever you’re doing and wherever you are.

With His Son as our Savior, God’s house is now in our hearts. Whatever is going on, He is right there with us, guiding, directing and most of all protecting! (His house), That’s the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world, The perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic. So, when those winter doldrums try to get hold of you, remember Who loves you and is with you all the time. He is just waiting to show that love whenever you ask! Blessings on and off the road, Jim and Betty Edleston CMA

“ I’m asking God for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long.

Excerpt from 12/11 HS Committee Meeting Minutes.... FTR HS Proposal by William Toreki, September 18, 2021. Proposal #_____1_________ I did some counting, and we consistently have more than twice as many Sunday AM riders than PM. Sunday AM field is getting HUGE with our higher turnouts, and will likely grow even more. It will even things out, but we will still have bigger field in morning. Would make for less congestion, and probably safer. SNAKE RIVER RACE REPORT The Palm Beach Track and Trail Riders put on their 11th installment of the Snake River Hare Scramble located just outside of Okeechobee. This property is unique for the area, while it does have some sugar sand the majority of the trail consists of hard packed black dirt that can

be tricky to ride. The back part of the property has some small elevation changes that allow for some natural jumps to form, making this a very fun trail to ride. It does have a tendency to get rough, especially when it is dry. Luckily for us racers we were blessed with some mois-

ture throughout the weekend making the trail very fun to ride, minus some very slick fields. Jacob Wilson dominated the Peewee A class finishing over a minute ahead of second place and grabbing his fourth win of the season. Hunter Stevens takes the win in Peewee B, Aiden Roth in Peewee C and Emma Pares in Peewee Beginner. On the four-wheel side of things Edgardo Santini narrowly edged out Austin Wilson for the Quad Super Peewee A win. It was a close one in Quad Super Peewee A with Dylan Reyes winning by less than a second after a hard-fought battle with Jose Guzman. Third generation FTR racer Mason Piper took the win in Quad Peewee A and Anthony Schneider dominated the Quad Peewee B class. The big track was in near perfect condition for the 12:15 Mini race. The kids put on a show with Jake Mitchell grabbing the overall win after battling with Linkin Bischoff in his first race back from injury. Wiley Tucker grabbed the Mini B win and Jenine Burns was your Mini Girls winner. Clayton Correnti took the win in Mini C after a good battle with Reid Swanbom. Landyn Mitz added anoth-

er 65 A win to his resume after a battle with Evan Watkins, this is shaping up to come down to the wire for the championship between those two. Nicolas Pares would win 65 B, Oliver Barr won 65 C and Alaina Faneuf took home the win in 65 Girls The Saturday 2pm Race featured a ton of fast Pre-Modern racers and it was Blake Yahraus who took the overall win on his old CR. Landon Lynn and Travis Hullfish rounded out the top three of Pre-Modern A. Jimmy Moore grabbed another Junior A win and Dylan Braddy took home his second Junior B win

of the season. Michael O’Donnell took his Yamaha to a win in Pre-Modern B and Jason Ennis rode his KDX to a win in Pre-Modern Super Senior. The Sportsman lines were huge this weekend with 52 Sportsman 1 riders and 31 Sportsman 2 riders. With the GNCC series quickly approaching we were treated to a bunch of fast quad riders at Snake Rver. There were 16 AA riders with GNCC contenders Hunter Hart, Walker Fowler and Cole Richardson rounding out the top three overall. Jan Garcia took home the win in Quad A, February 2022

PAGE 19

James Swilley in Quad B and Trenton Carlisle in Quad C. Jordan Berg was your Quad Junior winner, also finishing a respectable 20th overall. Jeffrey Vaslin was your Quad Vet winner and Christopher Rajala won Quad Super Senior. The Sunday only section at the Snake River Hare Scramble was great, a ton of natural hits and some awesome off-camber corners that were tricky to navigate. Shawn Clark had no issues though winning Vet A and taking the Sunday AM

overall win over Barry McCarty and Alex Mitz. Mose Howard has been great in his return to FTR racing grabbing another win in Super Senior A, this time over Joslie Cutillas. Katie Benson grabbed a win in Women A and a respectable 24th overall aboard her Yamaha. The Top B rider was Dustin Kuentjes on his #90 KTM and the Top C rider was Vet C rider Mathew Crews. The Sunday Afternoon was stacked with heavy hitters. The local boy Jesse Ansley grabbed the overall win over fellow

GNCC XC2 racer Ryder Lafferty and 2020 Pro Motocross Champion Zach Osborne. Korbin Dinkel continued his perfect season in A 250 with another win. Shout out to Matt Arick on his first A Open win and 14th overall. Logan Crawford took home the win in A 200 and Travis Hullfish grabbed the win in 30+. Kevin Csanadi was your Top B rider and Jacob Kolman was the Top C rider.
