THANK YOU ROCKY MOUNTAIN ATV M/C FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS
OVER $150,000 IN RACE GAS GIFT CARDS EACH YEAR!
As we roll into the New Year and being over half way through the season, I would like to take a minute to reflect on life. First and foremost, Thank You to all that have supported me for all these years during our elections, it’s very humbling. Second, a lot of you have been asking if I hurt myself or what I did to cause my obvious limping around. I will say if I hurt myself riding I would probably be better by now but this sciatic nerve is trying to kick my butt. Any of you guys
that have had this knows what I’m talking about and those that haven’t, you don’t want to know. Weeks after Hurricane Ian the clean-up started and for the next few weeks it must have triggered something as I woke up with the most excruciating pain I have ever had. As I had to step aside somewhat from the grid of clean up, my wife took the controls and kept things moving literally, as she ran the skid steer and picked up the debris. From my hip to my ankle, it made everyday life a challenge. Of course as its feeling better, you just have to try it and I’m sure you know what I am talking about, thank goodness for the e-button.
Enough about me, moving into our second half of our series keeps proving that the off-road community is as strong as ever with rider entries reaching the 1300 mark. From the very popular Stacyc bicycle events on Saturday, our peewees and the entire weekend of racing, we are growing by leaps and bounds. FTR has established itself as one of the, if not the biggest series going except for the GNCC
series. Our consistency, medical staff and being organized is one of the main reasons we keep receiving high marks in the offroad world. Our volunteers are the backbone of this organization and I continually count our blessings that we have these folks. FTR is working on a program to enlist some more support and to keep the ones we have with details coming soon.
Also, how could we ask for anything better than having Moose Racing, FMF, Seat Concepts, Engine Ice and HBD Motografx supporting our series? I personally use every one of these products with confidence and highly recommend each and every one of them. Our sponsors are very proud to be associated with us and FTR is blessed to have to them on board for the next few years, couldn’t ask for any better industry support.
So keep those FMF goggles on, we got a lot of racing to do.
Thanks for your time,
Randy Faul“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7
A big thank you (!) to all who have contacted us with follow up on the January article. It was my privilege to share how Jesus has moved and directed us through the years.
In Matthew 28: 18-20 Jesus said, “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”
This scripture is called the Great Commission. It encourages those who have a personal relationship with Jesus to go and share His Good News with all.
That is why Betty and I have the blessing of working and sharing Jesus with our FTR family.
That Good News is in John 3:16-18; This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.
Notice, Jesus didn’t come to condemn or remind us of our failings and flaws. He came to help us, lift us up and give us HOPE. By believing in Him, we are given a new life, a fresh start and the literal Creator of the Universe as our best friend.
Notice also that it is a choice. Best example is your computer. It came with a search engine installed. It is called the default, meaning unless you choose to use another, it stays.
Seeking and accepting the forgiveness of your sins by believ-
ing in Jesus is an active choice. Not deciding to choose Jesus is the automatic default of eternal separation from God… hell.
It is our desire for our FTR family to pray and make the active decision to accept and follow Jesus.
Romans 10:9, The word that saves is right here, as near as the tongue in your mouth, as close as the heart in your chest. It’s the word of faith that welcomes God to go to work and set things right for us. This is the core of our preaching. Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is my Master”— embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!”
Please join us at “The Good Race” Joy Service, 7:00, Saturday night at the CMA tent!
Blessings on and off the road, Jim
and Betty Edleston CMANow that we are past the halfway point of the season, I thought it would be a good idea to reintroduce myself. The most frequent questions I get at the races are, “Who are you, and what do you do?” I decided to trim down my original introduction to let you know how I can help. I have been an FTR member since 2009, and at my first race, I knew I would be addicted to hare-scramble and enduro racing. Working my way up from 250C, I am now a Senior A-class rider. Seeing the number of participants and fans grow in recent years has been great. The competition progresses, but so do injuries and the need for a competitive edge as the margin for error shrinks. That is where I come in. I believe I can serve the FTR community concerning injury prevention, performance improvement, and rehabilitation of the human movement system.
Please indulge me while I tell you a little about my journey so you can gauge the value of my advice in this column. I completed my master’s degree in occupational therapy in 2006 and a doctorate in physical therapy in 2007. In 2010, I went back for fellowship training through the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT-www.aaompt.org) with eight different mentors while I completed coursework and taught orthopedic physical therapy under their guidance. It was an intense undertaking, and even though I had a manual therapy certification and a few years of experience, that fellowship training packed what felt like ten years of
experience in 1 year of 50–60-hour work weeks.
Since then, I have worked to become an Associate Professor in a Doctor of Physical Therapy program and secure an additional doctoral degree. I mentor and teach physical therapy students as well as practicing physical therapists. I have also worked on continuing my clinical expertise by securing further training in physical therapy as well as holding non-paid service positions for the profession. This additional training includes becoming a certified orthopedic specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, a fellow of AAOMPT, and intramuscular dry needling certified. I have been fortunate to serve as an expert witness for a litigation, written textbook chapters, and collaborated on major orthopedic research projects and independent publications ranging from shoulder impingement syndrome to sensory deficits after ACL knee surgery. I have been fortunate to present on various orthopedic-related topics at national and international conferences. Despite this training and effort, there is always more to learn and more people to help.
I have been fortunate enough in my career to help Olympic triathletes, amateur and professional mountain bike racers, an American Ninja Warrior, and multiple AMA national champion motorcycle racers. If I were allowed to name them, you would know who they are. I have helped more FTR and GNCC racers over the years than any other type of athlete. I have also experienced firsthand the physical and mental toll that injuries from these
sports inevitably bring. I know what it is like to ride with discomfort and having to sit on the sidelines to let your body heal, even after the surgeons did a fantastic job putting you back together.
Ultimately, I want to help people ride better and with less pain. Some of you in the FTR community also chose a career focused on helping people. Helping others is what profoundly connects us as community members. It is the reason I became a teacher. I felt I could help more people by training students to become Doctors of Physical Therapy, mentoring our residency and fellowship students, or teaching continuing education courses to PTs after graduation. But ultimately, I am here to serve you, the FTR racers and family members that make FTR such a successful organization.
My main objective is to help you ride better with less pain and compensation. That assistance may come from my column advice that unlocks your riding or from hands-on treatment. The sessions at the races will include discounted PT services, including therapeutic exercises and manual therapy. Go to your suspension expert to tune your bike settings, then see me to tune up your body. Between races, we can connect via telehealth on your computer or phone, and I can even send you custom-made videos of information and exercises. The MotoPT website has more details on the services I offer. Please come by to chat at the races, email me, or text me, especially if you have any suggestions or questions.
Thanks for taking the time to be with me on this journey. Let’s IMPROVE YOUR MOVE.
Sincerely,
Dr. Matthew Daugherty (Matt the MotoPT) www.motopt.com contact@motopt.com904-395-5379

Just finished up with my first ever Pre-Modern race at the Snake River Hare Scramble. Super fun to race a 20-year old bike. I definitely have to ride it a little differently to make sure it gets to the finish. At this point in my career, I just cannot take the risks I used to take when I was younger.
Much like investing, when you are young, you have all the time in the world and you can take big risks.
However, if you are nearing retirement or you have already retired; you may want to consider dialing back the risks. Without the time to make up for a big market loss, it is important to have a portion of your investments less risky.
Many of our clients have a portion of their investments in fixed rates. Last year, rates were so low. However, interest rates went up rapidly in 2022.
Rates going up may have hurt your money invested in the market. However, it has made fixed rates very attractive now. We are seeing short term fixed rates over 5%. These kinds of rates were unheard of in the recent past.
If you are tired of riding the roller coaster with all of your assets in the stock market, give us a call and we can help you explore all the options.
