ON THE COVER Cassi Jacobs leads the Women B and Master C line around the first turn at the SADRA Headless Hare Scramble. Cassi would go on to a Top 10 finish in Women B. Turn to page 16 for a Race Review of the SADRA event.
EDITORS NOTE As I type this we are three Hare Scrambles into our season. For me it has been a bit of rough start. At Round 1 in Bartow I was running inside the Top Five in A Open when my bike quit on me, huge bummer. Luckily enough my guys over at 352 Motorsports got me dialed in and had my bike back up in running for Round 2 at Hog Waller. Round 2 was a struggle, I have always struggled in the deep sand and this time was no different. I managed to get a half-decent start and climb my way into second place. About halfway through the first lap I lost all of the little skills I have. I rode slower than a heard of snails traveling through peanut NOVEMBER 2020
butter. I ended up seventh in A Open and 21st Overall. Third times a charm, right? I’d like to think so as I made some steps in the right direction at Round 3 with a 3rd in A Open and 15th Overall, I’ll take it. On another note, having a race on Halloween was awesome. Nothing better than seeing my FTR family out and about on Saturday night Trick-r-Treating. I even let Joe Exotic race my Pre-Modern bike! Feel free to reach out with any questions or content regarding the magazine! See you at the races! Kurt Lucas ftreditor@floridatrailriders.org PAGE 7

PREZ SAYS the haunted house and the trickr-treating. Our long time members, Lynda and Dale Moore headed up the awesome event with many days and weekends leading up to race weekend as they designed both the peewee course and the haunted trail.
Home at last I don’t even know where to start with this, but what a weekend! This is Monday November 2 at 5:30 pm and we just got home from being at the SADRA Homeland property since last Tuesday, almost a week out at the property. We were blessed with great weather and a very exciting weekend. I hope everyone enjoyed our event with the highlight of the weekend being
With a lot of help from other parents and their children, the Saturday night event was one to remember. With a full moon, cool weather and a very excited bunch of FTR children, this event was the best! A huge shoutout to the Moore family for making this happen. Along with an awesome Saturday night, there was some awesome racing going on. The parking was at its max along with the starting line. Our 200 x 150 foot starting grid barely accommodated everyone as some classes were handlebar to handlebar. I hope everyone enjoyed all of the courses as we tried to give each day their own course with only a

few miles of connecting everything together. Months of weekends went into working this property while fighting off the rain we were getting almost daily until about three weeks before race time, and yes we were concerned with it being wet. I would like to give a big Thank You to all of the SADRA club members, our friends and fellow neighboring clubs that gave us a hand also. Our trail boss Carol Preston did an outstanding job in taking on the task of the “goto person” and keeping things in order on the trail. We greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping the property clean and conducting ourselves like the responsible motorcyclists that we are. Thanks for listening, Randy Faul

Starting Line to Checkered Flag… “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 All of us can agree 2020 has been a most “unusual” year. I have found myself running out of adjectives to describe it. As we now approach Thanksgiving, many of us are wondering, “can we really be thankful with all this going on?” The answer is a strong and positive YES!! As believers in Jesus, we are encouraged to “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you
Further, even with the financial, medical and social challenges, we are promised to come out of it even better than before. In 1 Peter 5:10, we are promised, “after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” James 1:12 confirms this. “Blessed is the person who remains steadfast under trial, for when they has stood the test they will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

Last month the FTR Faithful invaded the Hog Waller Mud Bog for the Azalea City M/C Hare Scramble. Per usual the conditions were tough as this is one of the few courses that is all Florida sugar sand. Luckily for us racers we were blessed with some cooler weather for the weekend, which I personally was very happy about. I will say this though, when we have tough conditions we tend to get some awesome photographs whether it is Vet A rider Shawn Clark hopping through deep sand whoops or Peewee parents chasing after their little ones as they navigate the terrain. Now the place is called Hog Waller MUD Bog so you had to expect some mud coming in. Luckily for the racers the
mud sections were short and sweet, they actually provided a break from all the sand.
manent restrooms, a sippy hole and showers, what else could you ask for?
Now FTR has only raced at “Hog Waller” for five years but this land and the surrounding area have a rich history in off-road motorcycle racing. Just down the road sits the Rodman Plantation where we raced for many years, with the last year being the 2003-2004 season.
It was a great weekend of racing and we appreciate Azalea City M/C’s hard work and dedication into putting on this event. The club doubled their work by having a completely different course for the Sunday races. Huge thanks to our medical crew, sign-up workers and all others that make these events happen. We members cannot thank you enough.
Even before those days, FTR raced on the current Hog Waller property, long before it became Hog Waller. Add that in with the recent GNCC’s that have taken place there and you get a ton of laps spun on these grounds. How about the facilty? Man I feel like I am a high-class individual when I drive through the gates. RV hookups, perNOVEMBER 2020

SADRA HEADLESS HARE SCRAMBLE What a weekend we had down at the SADRA Headless Hare Scramble just outside of Bartow. This was the second year the Sarasota Area Dirt Riders Association (SADRA) held a race at this property and it did not dissapoint. The course featured fast open fields, flowy switchbacks and some challenging deep sand sections. With another year under their belt the club was able to have a sepereate course for the quads which allowed for some nice bike-only sections.
ultimate traction. If it is dry, the hard sections are like ice and tend to develop harsh squareedged bumps. We had a bit of both this weekend as some sectiions were tacky and rutted up and others were dry and slick. It provided a tough challenge for all skill levels.
If you raced on Sunday you got to experience one of the best sections I have ridden in a long time. The off-camber pine section about halfway through the lap was EPIC. It was short, but oh so sweet. Multiple lines The Clear Springs/Bartow races formed giving ample opportuare always hard to predict. If the nities to make passes all while property has moisture on the climbing up and down one of ground the fields get uber slick the many hills on the property. and the hard-packed sections Man! Was that fun. tend to tack up providing
FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS
The weather was beautiful on Saturday with the weather in the upper 70’s and lower 80’s with a slight breeze that kept riders cool. Unforunately for the Sunday riders the normal hot and muggy Florida weather showed up which provided an additional challenge to the racers.
One of the best parts of the weekend was the Trick-r-Treating and the Haunted Trail that the club put together. Once the Quad race was over hundreds of kids flooded the pits going from campsite to campsite collecting candy. It was so awesome to see everyone get involved with bringing candy and the kids costumes were top notch. We even had some racers get into the spirit by wearing costumes while they raced. I saw Evel Kneivel, Iron Mon and even Joe Exotic out on the track.
Perhaps the most important thing to take away from the weekend was the rider turnout. For a third straight event the parking lot was absolutely packed with people and the rider turnout stayed on par with the previous events. Something that is great to see. We had 318 riders in the Sunday AM race and 146 in the Sunday PM race. Much higher than the average turnout. We also had close to 80 Sportsman riders in the Saturday 2PM race. All great signs for the growth of our sport.

QUESTIONS FROM THE FIELD “Who is your favorite pro rider and why?” Josh Tolken
Charlie Mullins, I met him at an FTR race a few years back with Jesse Ansley and my brother Matt, he only had two jerseys and he told me to meet him at the next race for a jersey. Sure enough he was true to his word, super nice guy and great rider!
Kent Ashby
Stew, watching him never gets old. He’s probably the most talented person to ever do it. Scrubs? Quading rythym sections? You can thank James Stewart for that.
Editor’s Choice
Definitely McGrath, my first memories of watching Supercross were Jeremy McGrath. Even at that young of an age I could still appreciate the fluidity of his style. To this day I think he had the best style of anyone, eh maybe Christian Craig puts up a fight in that category. I remember being devestated whenever RC beat him. FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS

CATCHING UP: AUSTIN LASURE Hey Austin, how has your season been so far? My season so far has been fun and challenging. I decided to move to the Plus 30 class to challenge myself among guys my age this year. Last season I finished consistently in front of B Open and I was more interested in moving to an “A” class to race the fast guys and hopefully get faster. This is coming upon my third year riding dirtbikes so the speed is just starting to show up. Out of the three races I have continued to improve in the overall breaking into the top 30 Sunday afternoon for the first time and am feeling good physically. Only three years? What do you contribute to your rapid progression? I grew up racing bicycles. I raced BMX at a competitive level for years until I was 16. I later joined the military and was in some high speed units in the Army. In short I hate it when I am not good at something. Not that I want to beat out anyone else but I want to be competitive on the highest levels. I don’t want to win beginners class. I love the
artwork of trying to get a dirtbike to move fast. Coming from bicycles and being a cardio guy in running and such I honestly thought riding dirtbikes would be easy. Its just a bike with a motor. In fact it has honestly been the most physically demanding sport I have ever entered into. Working with my coach Hunter Neuwirth has been the greatest attributer to overall becoming a better racer. Now I just need as much seat time as I can get because although I am in shape for the race now I don’t have the “feel” that these guys have who have been riding dirtbikes for 20+ years. What is FCS Racing? I see your logos and shirts everywhere. When I grew up in ABA BMX there were many different teams out there and different levels of sponsorship. “Trophy Teams” were basically a local bike shop that gave you a discount and maybe a shirt or something. “Bike Shop Teams” were your first real level of sponsorship. These were teams that paid entry fess, got you parts, helped with travel and sometimes really helped with the financial side of racing. Not a full ride but a
FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS
real help. Then you had “Factory teams” and we all know what that is. FCS Racing is setup to be like a “Bike Shop Team”. We take riders who are on the cusp of reaching that next level. Our goal is to truly help them with parts, gear, support and more. We invest in only a few riders each year because if you ride for FCS Racing you truly have support behind you. When you need a motor rebuild and money is tight and connections aren’t there your on a team that will 100% get it done. The goal is to groom young men and women to be the best versions of themselves not just in racing but in all aspects. I firmly believe my sponsors, Dad and the sport of BMX set me up for success going into the military and now running my own business’s. I want my riders who rode for the team to not only win a championship but to go on to be excellent contributors to society in a positive and big impactful way.
