Women in the Wilderness CHENA RIVER KING QUEST • JULY 7 • 9 A.M. Open to women ages 7 and up (Youth under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.) Fee: $60 for adults (age 16 and up), $50 per youth (age 7-15) Spend a day on the Chena River with the ORC Staff fishing for the Alaska King Salmon. We will place boats on the river for some great fun and excellent fishing opportunities. Space is limited, so sign up quick. ORC will provide the boat and driver. Participants provide a fishing license with King Salmon Stamp, tackle, rod and reel. If you need equipment coordinate with the ORC. An Alaska state fishing license is required for this trip. ATV SAFETY COURSE • JULY 11 • 8 A.M. Open to women ages 18 and up | Fee: no cost Come on down to this course and get your ATV Safety certification from one of our certified instructors. This course is required for any of ORCs ATV trips and required to ride an ATV on Ft. Wainwright. ATV TRIP • JULY 17 • 8 A.M. Open to women ages 18 and up | Fee: $60 per person Come into the Alaska Wilderness with us on a one day ATV adventure! Transportation, ATV and Helmet will be provided. Bring your lunch, snacks, drinks, gloves and daypack with bungee cord to strap to ATV. Over the ankle boots are required. Departs the Outdoor Recreation Center at 8:30 am. *Participants must have ATV safety course certification through the ATV Safety Institute. This course is offered by outdoor recreation on July 11th as a last opportunity to receive this certification. MOUNTAIN BIKING TRIP • JULY 31 • 8 A.M. Open to women ages 16 and up | Fee: $25 per person Mountain bike with us! The location is yet to be determined, but will be designed for beginners to mountain biking. Are you already a mountain biker? Come along for a moderate level workout on one of Alaska’s beautiful trails! We provide mountain bikes, helmets, transportation, and the knowledge to get you started. You provide a small backpack with snack and drinks for the trail.

This tour includes a van ride 115 miles up the Dalton Highway, also known as the “Haul Road” to the Arctic Circle wayside and sign. We will stop at the TransAlaska oil pipeline, travel along the foothills of the Brooks Range at Gobbler’s Knob and cross the mighty Yukon River over the 2,290 foot E.L. Patton Bridge.

Escape the crowded city and start fly fishing for Arctic Grayling in the Chena River State Recreation Area. A catch and release fishery, the upper Chena provides excellent opportunities to hook into good size fish. If you are new to

Enjoy the ATV tour in the Swede Lake area, on a trail located in the Tangle Lakes region of the Denali Highway Trail System with ORC. Day one consists of travel to the trail head, off load ATV’s and then make our way to the campsite along the Gulkana River. Then we will be off to explore the many trails in the area. If you fish, bring your fishing gear and license along with a

This month, there will be a representative from the Social Security Administration to address updates to Social Security benefits for Survivors. Also to be discussed is the topic of financial aid benefits for college students— specifically loans, grants, scholarships and the price of paying both instate and out-of-state tuition.
