NATIONAL TRAILS MONTH SPEAKER SERIES June 6, 13, 20, 27 from 6 to 7 p.m. In celebration of National Trails Month the LFCAC will be hosting a speaker series to discuss the unique and wonderful outdoor recreational opportunities that exist in and around the Fairbanks area. Join us and be prepared to learn about outdoor fun that you didn’t even know about! June 6th – Alaska State Parks will speak about day hikes, multi day backpacking trips, backcountry cabins available and many other things including the Chena River Recreation area. June 13th – Family and MWR’s very own Outdoor Recreation Center will be on hand to discuss the many activities and classes offered including the popular Women in the Wilderness Program, recreational trips, renting out vehicles, and customized trips. June 20th – The US Army Environmental Division will discuss the land and various opportunities that are available here on Fort Wainwright, Fort Greely, and other training areas under their care and management. They will be available to answer questions about the Recreational Access Permit process and give details on the thousands of acres available. June 27th – Interested in Off Road Vehicle areas around Fairbanks? Meet The Bureau of Land Management who will be here to discuss many motorized trails available for those of you that love to zip around and feel the wind against your skin!

CHESS CLUB

June 11, 18, 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. The club will provide an informal setting for those who love the game to meet, play and discuss strategies while getting to know others that have an interest in thee game as well. WHITE WATER RAFTING: JUNE 24-26

FWA BOSS will partner with Ft Richardson BOSS for white water rafting the Six Mile Creek on the Kenai Peninsula. Transportation and lodging provided by BOSS. The cost for the rafts will be $85. Only 15 slots available.

BIRCH LAKE CAMPING TRIP: JUNE 10-12

Open to all Active Military and their Families. BOSS will be providing campsites, water sport activities, BBQ dinners and breakfasts. Participants will need to bring camping gear and extra food.

The Library continues honoring our servicemen and women with ornament making and story-writing. Bring a picture of your hero or pick out a picture of one of our Ft. Wainwright Soldiers to create a special ornament for him or her and write a little note to show you care.

Baby & Me: June 16th, 2 to 3 p.m.

A special story hour for baby (0-24 mo.). Mom or Dad read together and make a keepsake craft. The event is free but registration is required and space is limited.

ARCTIC CIRCLE TOUR Departs from ORC, 8 a.m. June 3 SOLD OUT! Ride 115 miles up the Dalton Highway, also known as the “Haul Road” to the Arctic Circle wayside and sign. At Latitude 66 degrees, 33 minutes, you will receive a certificate stating that you have journeyed above the Arctic Circle. Lunch is included.

BOATER SAFETY CLINIC 1 p.m. at the ORC June 4, 18, 19 Learn the basics of Alaska boating. The class begins in the classroom and then will move to the river for a practical hands-on portion. A boater safety card is issued at the completion of the course and is valid for four years. The course is conducted rain or shine, so bring a raincoat.

The landscape surrounding the peak consist of endless mountains, rolling tundra, ancients glaciers (Rivers of Ice) and an abundance of wildlife. ANGEL ROCKS HIKE AND SOAK Depart from ORC, 9 a.m. June 19 Join our team for a three and a half mile loop on the awesome Angel Rocks Trail in the Chena River State Recreation Area. After our hike, we head up the road for a relaxing soak at Chena Hot Springs (must be 18+ for outdoor rock lake). We provide transportation. Remember to bring a lunch, snacks, bug repellent and plenty of water.
