The EDGE! Program offers out of school opportunities for children and youth ages 6 to 18 to experience, develop, grow and excel by participating in art, adventure, fitness and life activities.

Learn the types of rods and reels, equipment, casting techniques and the various flies used for different species of fish. If you have your own rod and reel please feel free to bring them. Instructor, Mike Gould, has been successfully fly fishing in Alaskan waters for over 20 years.

Learn the basics of Alaska boating with the Boater Safety Course. The class begins in the classroom and then will move to the river for a practical hands-on portion. A boater safety card is issued at the completion of the course and is valid for four years. The course is conducted rain or shine, so bring a raincoat.

Escape the crowded city and start flyfishing for Arctic Grayling in the Chena River State Recreation Area. A catch and release fishery the upper Chena provides excellent opportunities to hook into good size fish. If you are new to flyfishing this is your chance to learn from one of our experienced staff members. We provide flyrod, flies and transportation. You provide

Rock climbing is a great mental and physical challenge that is fun.

We are lucky enough to have our own indoor rock climbing wall right here on Fort Wainwright!

Come once to try it out, or come weekly and add indoor climbing to your regular workout schedule.

This is a great way to train for the real rock Alaska has to offer.

Learn the basic elements of reloading, benefits, what kind of equipment is needed, safety issues, the various types of components (bullets, shell casings, powder) as well as a basic understanding of the entire reloading process.
