Gulkana Glacier Day Hike July 7, August 11 0700 Fee: $20 Head to the Alaska Range and hike the fantastic Gulkana Glacier. Bring a lunch and an extra pair of shoes (old sneakers are great!) to cross the river in.

Rock Climbing July 8, August 17 0900 Fee: $10 Try your hand on some real rock! The ORC provides all climbing equipment including helmets, harnesses, shoes, ropes, belay devices, and carabiners. Be sure to pack a lunch, snacks, and drinks.

Swede Lake ATV Trip

July 13-15 0800 Fee: $175 Take an ATV ride to Swede Lake and camp for 3 days in this wild and scenic setting. Please bring your breakfast and beverages for the trip as well as goggles, gloves, over the ankle boots and a pack to put it all in! ATV’s, helmets, camping gear, lunch, dinner,

and transportation is provided. An ATV Safety Course is required prior to the departure date. If you need equipment coordinate with the staff at 361-4089/2652.

July 14, 0700 Fee: $10 A women only installment of the Alaska Range Hike. Bring lunch, snacks and water, we’ll provide the adventure!

July 28 0900 Fee: $10 Bring the family out and spend the day enjoying the fresh air and challenge of rock climbing. No experience necessary! Be sure to bring water, snacks, lunch and active clothing (gym apparel, no jeans).

Evening Boat Rides July 19, 20 August 16, 23 1730 Fee: Free! Ride along the Chena River with the ORC crew. Along the way, you’ll get the chance to enjoy nature, spot wildlife, and simply relax.

Boater Safety Course July 21, August 25 1300 Fee: Free Learn the basics of Alaska boating. A Boater Safety Card is issued at the completion of the course and is valid for 4 years. A card is required for watercraft rental from the ORC. There are no exceptions! The course is conducted rain or shine so bring a raincoat.

ATV Safety Course July 28 1300 Fee: Free This ATV Safety Institute

Pinnell Mountain Trail July 20–22 0800 Fee: $75/person Join us on what will be the best 3 day backpacking trip to date! Head out to the Pinnell Mountain Trail, a 27 mile adventure located in the hills north of Fairbanks.

Bring an adventurous spirit and strong legs, as this trail covers a lot of elevation gain and loss.

WIW Rock Climbing

August 4 0900 Fee: $10 A women only trip to the cliffs north of Fairbanks. Bring water, snacks, lunch and active clothing (gym apparel, no jeans).


Family Berry Picking

August 5 0900 Fee: $5 Come along with the ORC and head into the hills to collect berries and enjoy the outdoors. Remember to bring a container to put your berries in.

Quartz Creek ATV Overnight

August 11–12 0800 Fee: $150 Spend the weekend traveling and camping by ATV in the White Mountains! Participants should bring breakfast and beverages for the trip as well as goggles, gloves, over the ankle boots and a pack to hold gear. ORC will provide the ATV’s, helmets, camping gear, lunch, dinner and transportation. An ATV Safety Course is required prior to the departure date. If you need equipment coordinate with the staff at 3614089/2652.

Smoke Those Salmon

August 12 1300 Fee: $5 Learn how to smoke your own salmon and some tricks and tips from the ORC staff. No previous experience required.

Dall River Pike Hunt

August 17–19 0800 Fee: $200 An Alaska State Fishing License is required! Enjoy a fishing trip to the Dall River drainage where the tenacious Northern Pike lurks in its murky water. Fish over 40 inches are not uncommon. Participants need to provide their own breakfast, fishing rod and reel, tackle, small cooler, bug dope, rain gear, sleeping bag and pad. Transportation, tents, coolers with ice, lunch, and evening meals are provided.

Overnight Float Trip

August 25–26 0800 Fee: $50 Venture out for a weekend of relaxing and floating fun. ODR will provide the transportation, food, and equipment needed for this trip. All you need is good clothing (NO COTTON!) and a desire for adventure. No previous paddling skill is required!

Chena River State Recreation Area. Transportation, ATV and Helmet will be provided. Bring lunch, snacks, drinks, gloves and daypack with bungee cord to strap to ATV. Over the ankle boots are required. Departs from the ORC at 8:30 am. An ATV Safety Course is required prior to the departure date.

Valdez Silver Salmon

August 31–September 2 0800 Fee: $275 An Alaska State Fishing License is required! These salmon are not only fun to catch but also make for some tasty eating. If you catch the largest fish of the day you could be the winner of the “Valdez Silver Salmon Derby” as long as you have purchased a ticket prior to leaving the docks. Transportation, camp ground, and charter are provided. Participants need to bring camping gear, food, refreshments and fishing license. Reservations must be made by August 17.

July 23 – 27 All the World is a Stage Learn the ropes of theater performance by producing, acting, and marketing a live performance for family and friends on Friday evening! Go behind the scenes of a local theater production company to learn what it really takes to ‘break a leg!”

July 30 – August 3 Wacky Olympics Get outside and get competitive with the Youth Center’s Wacky Olympics! Enjoy a funfilled week of crazy and downright weird games that will keep everyone laughing. Eat dinner and compete with family and friends for a Friday evening Olympic showdown.

Apprenticeship Program provides 15-18 year-old youth with meaningful, professionally managed career-exploration opportunities in Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) operations. We’ll also have Library Relays (on hippity hops), an Edible Book Contest, and a Watermelon Seed spitting contest! Special guests will announce the top reader awards and fun will be had by all!
