P S N I

On February 3rd 2019 Super Bowl LIII was played. The New England Patriots defeated the rams. Exactly one week later I was honored to have some of the players that won the Super Bowl in studio with me for a photo shoot and interview. It was amazing! I said the famous Jay Z lines "You could have been anywhere in the world but you're here with me." I had in the studio with me OBI MELONFUA, BRANDON KING, JONATHAN JONES and their famous sports agent of SES SPORTS SEAN STELLATO. It was an honor to see and shoot these 3 young black men who had done something that only a few men in history have done which is be a part over Super Bowl winning team. All 3 players were well mannered and mostly quiet but when they got in front of the camera they exuded was greatness and excellence. It was like watching 3 kings that had just been crowned. I was honored to be a part of the promotion package their agent had prepared for them especially in the crucial climate of the NFL right now. You see amidst the whole Super Bowl weekend there was still swirling in the media the Colin Kaepernick kneeling versus the NFL owners controversy. So as a media owner myself of course I had to touch base on the subject. In asking the guys what they thought about it they were hesitant to speak on it but they basically felt that to each his own. And though they understand Kaepernicks point, each player had to decide on his own direction in life as a man.

16

And I totally understood their standpoint, you see, I just like many Americans are in full agreement with Kaepernick in bringing attention to social justice. However after watching our young sons, nephews, neighbors and friends grow up playing football on various teams. Then struggle to do well with their grades in school plus staying out of trouble. Then go into college and stay healthy and make it to play football in the NFL- the highest level in the world... I totally understand it is very difficult to lose all that over taking a knee in protest. It is evident that Kap is being blackballed by NFL owners but I also understand that many of these young players don't want to risk that their jobs after they worked so hard their whole career just to be blackballed also. So on this night working with these incredible champions and their agent Sean who was full of energy style and charisma, I kind of learned something... I watched how their interactions were genuine and kind hearted to each other and how it was all about just winning and achieving unity and inspiring change. Sean was featured in many of the group shots and that inspired me to choose the direction of the shoot to focus on the unity demonstrated before my eyes. I felt that energy the whole entire time while we were shooting. Our shoot was successful and amazing. Since then Jonathan Jones is no longer represented by SES Sports but over the next few months I had the opportunity to be around Obi and Brandon at other engagements with Sean and it was amazing to see the way the strive for excellence was just ever so prevalent. Just watching the love spread between them and other new young NFL players and also the New England Patriots fans was remarkable intriguing. The unity inspired me so much that I decided to go with the very title that NFL has also decided to go with also "Inspire Change". Look out and pray for these young SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS -Obi Melifonwu, Brandon King, Jonathan Jones and the Business endeavors of Sean Stellato of SES SPORTS!!!

Melifonwu received an invitation to the Senior Bowl and made three combined tackles as a part of the North who lost 16-15 to the South. He was able to raise his draft stock after performing well during the Senior Bowl practices. Melifonwu attended the NFL Combine and completed the majority of combine and positional drills, but decided to skip the three-cone drill and short shuttle. He had impressive performances in the vertical jump, broad jump, and 40-yard dash that further raised his draft stock. He also participated at Connecticut's Pro Day and completed the short shuttle, three-cone drill, and positional drills in front of 25 NFL scouts from 20 NFL teams.

WWW.FULLBLOSSOMMAGAZINE.COM | ISSUE 39

His numbers in the short shuttle and three-cone drill would've ranked second among all positions if he would've posted those times at the NFL Combine. He had private workouts and visits with 11 NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers, Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, and Pittsburgh Steelers. NFL draft experts and analysts projected him to be a second round pick. He was ranked the fourth best strong safety in the draft by NFLDraftScout.com, the fourth best safety by NFL analysts Mike Mayock and Bucky Brooks, was ranked the fifth best safety by ESPN, and was ranked the sixth best safety by Sports Illustrated.

The Oakland Raiders selected Melifonwu in the second round (56th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. On August 23, 2018, Melifonwu was waived/injured by the Raiders. He was placed on injured reserve the next day after clearing waivers. He was released on October 23, 2018. On November 5, 2018, Melifonwu signed a two-year contract with the New England Patriots. Melifonwu appeared in 2 games for the Patriots, recording 3 tackles. Melifonwu and the Patriots eventually reached Super Bowl LIII where they beat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3.

Myth

Fact

Fad diets work for permanent weight loss

Fad diets are not the best way to lose weight and keep it off

Certain foods, like grapefruit, celery, or cabbage soup, can burn fat and make you lose weight.

No foods can burn fat

High-protein/low-carbohydrate diets are a healthy way to lose weight.

You may be eating too much fat and cholesterol, which may raise heart disease risk, may lead to constipation, may also make you feel nauseous, tired, and weak

Starches are fattening and should be limited when trying to lose weight.

Many foods high in starch, like bread, rice, pasta, cereals, beans, fruits, and a reduced-calorie eating plan that includes recommended amounts of carbohydrate, protein, and fat will also allow you to lose weight

Low-fat or fat-free means no calories

A low-fat or fat-free food is often lower in calories but may contain added sugar, flour, or starch thickeners to improve flavor and texture after fat is removed. Read the Nutrition Facts on a food package to find out how many calories are in a serving

Fad diets may be unhealthy because they may not provide all of the nutrients your body needs. Losing weight too rapidly, more than 3 pounds a week after the first few weeks, can increase your risk for developing gallstones. Diets that provide less than 800 calories per day may also result in heart arrhythmias, which can lead to death.

Research suggests that losing ½ to 2 pounds per week by making healthy food choices, eating moderate portions, and building physical activity into your daily life is the best way to lose weight and keep it off. The Truth About Dieting Narkide Borgella Integrative Nutrition Health Coach

FBM: What is the biggest misconception people think about you? Chinese Nicky: The biggest misconception is that I have made it when in actuality I'm still grinding. When people look at Love and Hip Hop what they are portraying me to be is a little bit different in real life. FBM: Tell us a little bit about your entrepreneurial background and what led you to where you are now. Chinese Nicky: I work at the source magazine as Ray Benzino's personal assistant and I did clothing styling and more there. I did fashion in that world in that publication as well. I also worked at BET and 106 and Park doing wardrobe. I owned a store and co-owned a restaurant called "Room Service". Then a gentleman's club in Vegas which led to co-owning The King of Diamonds in Miami and V Live Miami.

FBM: What made you want to join the cast of Love and Hip Hop Miami?

FBM: Do you visit Guyana a lot?

Chinese Nicky: I thought it would help out and catapult me in achieving the goals of my family and my kids but it backfired with bad press and negativity. It turned out to be a big regret that I have for 2017-18.

Chinese Nicky: Every year

FBM: Where did you get the name Chinese Nicky? Chinese Nicky: I had that name since I was about 5 years old growing up in Brooklyn. In my neighborhood there was a Jamaican Nicky a Puerto Rican Nicky and I was Chinese Nicky. FBM: Do you care what people think of you? Chinese Nicky: Nope I don't care! Sometimes I get a little upset with people that judge me on Instagram only because they don't know the real truth so that annoys me a little bit. If you're gonna judge me judge me on what you know about me not on what you think about me. FBM: What is your nationality? Chinese Nicky: I was born in Guyana I came to New York when I was about 4 yrs old. From then I was raised in Brooklyn.

FBM: Do you cook a lot of Guyanese dishes at home? Chinese Nicky: All I do is West Indian cooking FBM: If you had the cooking channel coming to your house what's your best cooked dish that you would present them with? Chinese Nicky: Well I'm a pescatarian so I would probably do escovish fish. FBM: Would you consider yourself to be a serial entrepreneur? Chinese Nicky: Yes I only say that because I'm not afraid to jump into different businesses. I went from having a store to owning a bar to owning a gentleman's club. So if the business sounds right I'll jump in. FBM: Are you still on the show? Chinese Nicky: Yes

FBM: What's your most memorable experience on the show? Chinese Nicky: Well it would probably be me fighting Shay Johnson and pulling her wig off but that's also my most regretful moment. FBM: What happened? Why most regretful?

Model: Chinese Nicky

Chinese Nicky: Well being that this was my 1st time on reality TV I didn't know that people just turn up for TV. The show just wants a natural reaction so I didn't know that her turn up was for audience reaction. And well what happened was that I was in one room and Shay and my daughter Chinese Kitty were in another room and I started hearing lots of commotion, screaming, yelling and tussling. So as I rushed in to protect my daughter, Shay is coming out of the room swinging. Of course my natural Brooklyn instinct kicks in and she had to get handled... It wasn't pretty... Reality TV is not real life. When you talk all that "Big shoot shit" that comes off as a threat to me and I'm going to react as I have my whole life in Brooklyn by protecting myself. Then on another occasion she was on the internet talking a lot of shit about what she was gonna do to me and how it would pop off on sight... Then we ran into each other in Charlotte at Pete Thomas's restaurant. I see the way her and her people were moving real funny. Listen I'm from the street, I'm from Brooklyn, I could feel the bad vibes. So I thought she was asking for it so I threw a pitcher of water in her face and she screamed... After Charlotte I realized she wasn't about that life and anything further would be bullying on my part. Listen I put my hands on her and I felt stupid and she should feel stupid also because she needs to realize that everybody is not living in a fantasy or scripted life. Some people will react by instinct and literally try to hurt you.

But overall she is extremely cool to me. FBM: Give us some business advice for women who are on the fence about working for themselves. Chinese Nicky: I think that everyone should try to work for themselves. I think that everyone should take the energy and time that they take to work for someone else and bet on themselves. Why take out the time to build someone else's dream when you can do it for yourself? FBM: What are you listening to right now on your playlist? F. U. N. (Forgive Urself Now) Individually, life has taken us through many ups and downs. Some pains, self-inflicted and some brought upon us by persons wishing us ill intent. However, it seems that it is easier to forgive those that has caused us pain than to forgive ourselves. Believing that it is not your fault is the hardest thing to do. So hopefully, I can encourage you to Forgive Urself Now because tomorrow is never promised and there is so much FUN to be had.

In today’s world, we are usually faced with many challenges that can change the course of an individual’s life if they do not have access to the right resources. Fortunately, there is an organization ready to step in and help individuals overcome those challenges. Today, Mello of Full Blossom Magazine sat down with Wendy Goldsmith, Founder & CEO of Chidubem, Inc. FBM: What does Chidubem, Inc. mean and what is the mission of the company? Wendy: Chidubem, Inc. comes from West Africa and it means, “Guided by God.” The company is a not for profit 501(c)3 organized to benefit youth who are battling cancer and/or homeless by providing food, clothing, financial donations for medication, medical assistance, and shelter. The corporation’s goals and objectives is to improve and advance the quality of life for these youth, to touch hearts and help change lives one step at a time. FBM: What was your inspiration that started your company? Wendy: I have always been an individual who was open and willing to help those in need as long as there was a positive outcome and it was within reason. My heart would always be filled with joy when I was able to turn a frown into a smile. After years of wondering, what was my purpose in life? Chidubem, Inc. was born. FBM: What are some of the events Chidubem, Inc. has done so far in the community? Wendy: Chidubem, Inc. has done quite a few events that helped benefit those in need. Last year, my team and I surprise 90 women in a homeless shelter for Mother’s Day by giving them goodie bags filled with all types of things that they could use daily. We brought different types of desserts and teas for the ladies. We approached different hair salons in the area who gave gift cards for the ladies to get their hair done. The reaction from the ladies in the shelter was absolutely…………………Priceless!!! The company had a coat drive that was able to supply several homeless shelters with coats for newborns to adults; males and females. I thank the community for that because they truly dropped off beautiful coats that was in good condition. Chidubem, Inc. was a sponsor Thanksgiving last year to Feed the Multitude for a mega church. Earlier this year, we partnered with Universoul Circus and raised funds for kids battling cancer at a hospital. This is just a few things that the company has under its belt. FBM: What are some upcoming events you have lined up? Wendy: I have two events that will be taking place the remainder of the year. The first one will be taking place in October 2019 and it is a fashion show fundraiser called Walk to Healing Runway Show. Portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital with is located here in New York City. In December 2019, there will be an event called Wendy’s Wonderland. There will be elves, vendors, sweets & treat, games, prizes and so much more. Both are fun and exciting events. FBM: What can people look forward to with the fashion show? Wendy: The attendees can look forward to a fabulous, fun filled time at the Walk to Healing Runway Show. We have eight designers from the east and west coast who will be showcasing their clothing line. Some are celebrity designers. I have models who are a force to be reckon with on the runway. DJ Doc Martin from WBLS will be playing the music. I have the CEO of Full Effect Imagery, Yvette Hunter-Bennett, who is a phenomenal make-up artist and she will be bringing her team. The host of the show is Velvet Toi who is the creator/ producer and host of Velvet Vibes. I wanted to do something a little different. In the vendor section of the event, there will be a designers corner where you can purchase clothing from the designer. I am not doing this event alone. The Assistant Fashion Show Coordinator is Curby Ingram and the Runway Coach is Jeannine Ferguson. FBM: How can you purchase tickets for Walk to Healing Runway Show?
