FBM: What are some of your hobbies?

Jenea

Leah Jenea: Pretty much singing, eating, sleeping. Dancing, writing (laughs). FBM: Okay, and at what age did you realize you wanted to become a singer and model?

FBM: Okay, so we’re in the building with Ms. Leah Jenea? Leah Jenea: Yup Jenea FBM: FromThe Four On Fox FBM: If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be?

Leah Jenea: I realized I wanted to become a singer when I was nine years old. I did my first performance at North Symphony Hall at a summer camp and that’s where my parents saw me and realized that this is what I was destined to do. And I realized also with modeling, it was just kind of something that I started doing to get my confidence up around the age of eleven and twelve. Then I grew to love it and grew more comfortable with myself, and it all became easier.

Leah Jenea: Umm… like undefined. FBM: Undefined? Leah Jenea: Yeah. FBM: Nice FBM: Where are you from? Leah Jenea: I’m from Newark, New Jersey. FBM: From Newark? It sounds like a little country. Leah Jenea: Yeah, yeah.

FBM: Who and what were your inspirations? Leah Jenea: Um… Amy Winehouse, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, those were my musical inspirations. Other young girls like Yara Shahidi and like Zendaya the way that they grind, they’re my inspirations in that sense. FBM: Beautiful, beautiful. Um, and, I see you got the short hair cut. Leah Jenea: Yes. FBM: So, when did you do the big chop? Or what made you want to do it? Leah Jenea: I did my big chop actually two years ago um, anniversary was early last week. I had locs for a long time, they were so long that they were damaged from color and just everything. So, I decided that I wanted to start doing new things and kind of go harder with my career. I kind of buckled down my look two years ago and I started having my short hair. Then about a year, no, about a couple months ago, I went blonde for the first time.

FBM: Wow, and blondes have more fun, they say. Leah Jenea: Definitely. FBM: Is it true? Leah Jenea: (Laughs) Yes. FBM: What’s your- I can guess but what’s your most memorable experience since being an artist and a model? Leah Jenea: Definitely The Four, definitely doing The Apollo. I won three times, that was a fun time for me. It was definitely those two. FBM: How would you describe your style? Leah Jenea: Um, definitely it’s all over the place. I love to dress however I’m feeling that day. Sometimes you know, I’m dressed down, sometimes I’m dressed up for no reason but definitely colorful and vibrant and just, you know me, I switch it up all the time.

FBM: Okay, and what are some obstacles you had to overcome into breaking into the industry?

FBM: What advice or last words would you leave for women reading this magazine?

Leah Jenea: Um, probably just keep my thoughts focus and also my confidence, I’m antsy. So sometimes it fluctuates but the more I do, the more I realize my worth and the easier it gets.

Leah Jenea: I would just tell women to never look in the mirror and say you can’t do it, you know, it's all in your head. You can do whatever you want to do as long as you stay focused and you stay true to yourself, you believe in yourself and trust yourself.

FBM: And do you have a line or a quote that gives you extra drive that you use as inspiration? Leah Jenea: Um, I would just like “let’s get her done”, let’s get it done. FBM: Alright, at times you felt like giving up, what kept you motivated? Leah Jenea: Probably just the music. I’ve always written music to teach myself through the things I was going through. So, it’s always been music. FBM: That’s nice, do you have any projects coming out right now? Leah Jenea: I have a new project that should be coming out early 2020. FBM: How would you describe your style?

FBM: Last thing, this is just my curiosity, how was it working with Puffy and the FOUR ON FOX? Leah Jenea: They’re nuts! Yeah, they’re silly.. They’re of age so they have their moments too where they’re not too focused, but they’re definitely amazing people, amazing mentors and they give great advice but they’re definitely crazy! FBM: Great, thank you so much.

Leah Jenea: Well you know, it’s different. I just describe it as different. I pretty much wear what I want, depending on the day. It’s always vibrant, always layering you know. So I just say different. Like I just do whatever, definitely love the nineties, it’s a big influence for me.

FBM: Hello C’Marie C’Marie: Hey what’s uuuppp! FBM: So we are gonna jump right in! Tell us about your song P-O-O-S-Y? C’Marie: (Laughs) Well… It’s a nicer way of sayingggg… I’m basically saying—it’s about women empowerment.

FBM: What’s the motivation behind your writing? C’Marie: I just wanted to have fun and be able to connect to women— my age, older, younger—and hormones are a real thing. It just is what it is and I love exploring different sounds. So it was fun to do that with him

FBM: And who’s producing you? C’Marie: A1 Bentley. FBM: And how’d you find him? C’Marie: He actually found me through one of my publicists I had—a previous one. She connected me to him and we just hit it off and we actually recorded a 15song EP in 4 days. FBM: Did you do the [song]writing? C’Marie: I did part of the writing—A1 and I collaborated. FBM: What was special about you, though? What was that magic—were you familiar with him?

C’Marie: Actually, no I wasn’t. I had been in the studio once with him and we kinda just sparked and we really hit it off. And you kinda get that chemistry working with people, you understand each other, he understood my voice, and he knew what worked with me. So we were really able to connect on the music aspect of everything. And the songs that I did with A1 Bentley were just songs that I wanted to try out because they were just that island feel as well. So we were just seeing how this would work and it actually worked really well for me and I really enjoyed it. And I’m really excited to explore what else is out there for me—musicwise—and I want to get more into the R&B feel of things now.

FBM: What was it like managing school and your career aspirations?

C’Marie: I was home-schooled from 6 grade on because I wanted to be able to do my career, but get an education as well. My parents knew I wasn’t gonna go the school route so they wanted to put all of their love and energy into something that they knew that I loved and I cared about. My dad is my everything. I love my dad with all of my heart. My mom too (she’ll get mad at me if I don’t say anything). My dad is the person that makes things happen for me. He’s just my best friend—besides being my father, he’s my best friend and my business partner. th

FBM: He’s your business partner? C’Marie: He’s my investor—he invests in me. FBM: So when you become a superstar, do you think you’ll maintain who you are? C’Marie: Yeah, I think my mom would kick my ass if I didn’t—and I want to. I want to continue to be the Christian that I am and pursue showing people who they can be through different ways. And I never get that attitude where people are just not nice to other people, but that’s just not me.

FBM: Were you involved in any altercations or anything like that? C’Marie: No—I’m not big on drama. FBM: But you’re gonna be in there some more, right? C’Marie: Yeah, yeah hopefully. FBM: How was your experience filming Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood? C’Marie: It was really cool. I really liked the people that were filming so it was really great to know people on the cast and stuff. It just flew by—like before I knew it, it was over. FBM: Is there a crazy storyline for you? C’Marie: Well, I wasn’t in any of the drama. But I was just there to sing and perform and show people my music. They probably had some drama off to the side, but I was there having a great time and hanging out.
