in 2012, are you looking forward to what 2013 will bring?! Are you excited about new business ventures, customers, relationships, a few less pounds and inches, and even more Facebook friends and blog followers? You are not alone. People all over the world have waited for the “new year” to jump start life on their next level. I am no different. However, I know that the journey doesn’t begin January 1, 2013. You must understand that planning and preparation are essential in helping life run smoothly. You can avoid stress, mistakes, and missed opportunities by putting things in order. Once you are ready, you must put in the hard work and find the time to enjoy yourself along the way. To ensure longevity, you also want to be flexible with your plan. There are things out of your control that can cause a set back or enhancement. You need to be able to adjust if you want the best outcomes. Along with the planning, prep, working, having fun, and being flexible, you must BELIEVE! You cannot achieve anything that will take so much from you as a person, or business, without faith. You must believe in your dreams, vision, and your resources (God, family, friends, team, etc). Maybe you finished everything from your “2012 To Do” list and maybe not. Either way, give yourself an advantage on 2013 by looking ahead. That slight change in perspective and faith in your purpose will make a huge difference in your path to success. Mary Mary released a song that encourages you to do instead of try. In 2013, MAKE things happen and BE the change. If you know like I know, it’s your time. And if it is indeed YOUR time…GO GET I T!!! As always, be blessed and a blessing…

New Years is the time of year where everyone declares that they will change for the better so…….. 10 pounds HAVE to go!!!!!!!!! I always wondered where was the 10 pounds going and what happens when it wants to come back? Don’t get me wrong a healthier you should always be your first choice in life but getting rid of 10 pounds for a skinner you, perfect body you, or at least an average size you does not exactly fall under the word ”healthy”. When I hear the words “New You,” I never think of my body size.” New You,” to me starts from the inside out, not the outside in! Becoming a new you should be a life change, not a change of life. I know I may have lost some of you but continue reading; I promise I’ll get you back on track. A change of life is when you decide whatever you want to change is something of substance. The want to change something in your life where the change starts in you then executes through you to create a better you. A life change is the decision to change something in your life that may be holding you down, weighing you down, or pulling you down. This can also be a person or place. A change of life on the other hand is a change you decide to make because it is “time” to do so or because of your age. A change of life happens when you say to yourself “it’s time to change because I’m 30 and everyone by this age should be at point D and I’m still on point A so I’m quitting my job to be a celebrity (a little over dramatic but you understand). A change of life really means I’m doing something because it’s what I should do, not what I really desire to do. A change of life usually starts out ok, then by the end of the week, you have forgotten the change, what you really wanted to change and if you did change, what did you change because it wasn’t a drastic enough change to really call it change!!!!!! LOL, but seriously when deciding to want to change to become a “New You” you (we) should ask ourselves how will the new you reflect who you already are for the better. “New Year/New You” is a goal we all should set for ourselves because staying at the same place in life is not only boring but it is also failing to live life to the fullest!!!!! Its understanding that you (we) should not be at the same point in our lives at the age 30 that we were at the age 15 or being at the same point at 50 that we were at 25. It’s changing to mature and fulfill all that offered to us in life. A life change is more than just changing for a moment, does not change with every outfit you put on, does not change when you change friends, and sure does not change when the lights go off. A change of life is not only becoming a new you, but knowing that the new you is not the shadow or a copy of the so called old you but it will become the new original you!!!!

The Power of Vitamins “The Powerful 4” Acts 27: 34 states, “Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is important for your survival. For not one of you will lose a hair from his head.” Shedding, breakage, dryness, and hair loss, may be a result of vitamin deficiency, illness, genetics, medication, or poor hair care maintenance. A well-balanced diet, vitamins, and hair education are the major contributions to healthy hair. There are no magic oils or motion lotions that actually determine hair growth. Hair growth is pre-determined. On average, hair grows ½ in per month, which is six inches per year. There are thousands of topical products that only promote hair growth. Nutrition and vitamins are key factors in healthy hair growth. Find a multivitamin or increase vitamin enriched- foods in your diet. I recommend the “The Powerful 4” 1. Vitamin A- If you are deficient in it, hair loss may occur. It produces sebum by stimulating hair follicles. If you are experiencing a dry scalp, go for it! 2. Biotin- A deficiency of Biotin can cause hair loss. If you are experiencing brittle, dry hair, and need an aid to hair growth, try it. It leaves your hair shiny, soft, and less shedding. 3. Vitamin C- It prevents hair loss, brittle and dry hair. It produces healthy collagen and it helps hair breakage. 4. Vitamin E- For maximum hair growth, it starts with a healthy scalp. Vitamin E helps with blood circulation in the scalp, preparing healthy scalp conditions. When taking vitamins and supplements, make sure the proper dosage are taken and consult with a physician.

THE ARTIST WITHIN
Model: Cori Quinn MUA: Iesha Nicole Photography: www.MomentsByMello.com
If you’re anything like me, when you were young, what you wanted to be when you “grew up” changed almost as frequently as your favourite cartoon character. When I was five years old, I was sure I wanted to be a writer. By the time I was six, I had decided that writing was too much like hard work and that I was much more suited to painting. By the age of ten, my love of anything furry pushed me in the direction of veterinary surgery. However, the reality of studying science for the rest of my student educational life soon steered me back to writing; this time, journalism. By the time I reached my ‘A’ levels (what is this referring to?) I was a bit confused. Having dropped psychology for art halfway through my first year, it was clear that I was also quite indecisive (a trait I still possess). So when it came to applying for university, I opted for joint honours in Sociology and Visual Art. This suited me down to the ground. I got to play about in the studio whilst feeding my curiosity about our social world in the library. Then reality kicked in. I was 21 and as I worked day and night on my final dissertations and art project, it suddenly struck me that I didn’t have a clue what I was going to do once I had letters after my name. I knew that working for some big corporation wasn’t me, and the thought of taking the default option of teaching filled me with horror. A tiny independent book shop in Nottingham saved me. Whilst browsing through their collection, I came across The Career Guide for Creative and Unconventional People by Carol Eikleberry. I read it cover to cover and was filled with relief when I came across a vocation that beautifully blended my love of art and fascination with people: art therapy. Things were suddenly clear. All I needed to do was get a couple of years experience working with vulnerable people; sign up for the MA and voila... I would arrive at my destiny.
It didn’t quite work out like that. Working in London, I met a fellow artist who also had explored the art therapy option. It transpired that only a handful of universities offered the training and those places were like gold dust. Actual paid jobs were even harder to come by and even then the pay was, at most, modest. My heart sank. I spent the next five years or so developing my career in the public sector and dabbled with some counselling courses; they just didn’t quite hit the spot. My creativity was calling but the reality of the nine to five just wasn’t willing to give it a chance. I couldn’t even choose what font to use in my emails, let alone show any form of self expression. In a bid to save my sanity, I nurtured the artist within me with life drawing and creative writing classes. I read a couple of books about the writing life and tried a little self help life coaching. It became clear that my dreams were not going to fall into my lap and concentrating on climbing my current career ladder would lead me further away from what I really wanted and destroy any hope of me ever finding it again.
Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for my job. My salary is pretty good, my boss is fair and my colleagues are a hoot, but it was time for me to reclaim my creativity. I decided to devote a certain amount of time a week to art. I started a blog and began to write my first novel. I grabbed every opportunity I had; pod-casting, illustrating and making gifts for my friends and family. I was like a child in a forbidden sweet shop; there was so much I wanted to try, and I wanted to taste everything. A friend recognised my plight and recommended Creating a Life Worth Living by Carol Lloyd. I worked through the author’s exercises, absorbed her advice and got organised. I figured out what I wanted to achieve, how I was going to achieve it and by when. My boss authorised my application to work a condensed week and, before I knew it, I had three detailed plans. One for getting my novel published, one for my life and another for my other creative pursuits. I had one whole day a week to follow them. It hasn’t been easy. I have to squeeze my contracted hours into four days. I can’t live without my busy social life and I need to keep on top of my running to prevent the onset of “writer’s bottom”. But things are slowly happening. I have yet to be published and Charles Saatchi hasn’t offered me space in his gallery yet, but I feel like things are moving forward. I don’t know about you, but when I am on my death bed, I want to be able to say that I gave life my best shot rather than feel regret for never giving my dreams a chance. I may never be able to give up the day job, but life is a journey. And I want the artist within to be my travelling companion. Rejuvenate your hair for 2013! Photo By Moments by Mello By Kymberly Nichole,
Milk, Eggs, Avocados…No this isn’t a supermarket list these are super foods that can be used for ALL hair types to ensure a healthy mane without use of harsh chemicals. Our hair takes a beating daily from the elements as well as the chemical based products and heat that we sometimes use to get that amazing look we all strive for. These foods can be used at home and made right in your kitchen! Saving you money and rejuvenating your hair for the New You in the New Year! First, milk is on our shopping list. Not traditional cow’s milk but soy, coconut, goat or rice milk. These types of milk have more vitamins and protein which aid if you battle with limp, dry, lack luster hair that doesn’t seem to grow. A great goat milk treatment is simple; mix ¼ cup dry goat milk powder with water to make a paste, then gently massage the paste into your hair. Cover hair with a hot damp cloth for 30 minutes. Always changing the towel when it cools, so you have that constant heat and the mixture can penetrate the hair. Rinse and shampoo with an herbal shampoo. It’s that easy, try this treatment once per week or bi-weekly and notice the change in your hair almost immediately. Next up eggs! Eggs are rich in Vitamins A, D & E that are wonderful for your hair. Eggs work as a cure for dandruff, promote hair growth and the egg yolks make hair glossy and shiny with few tangles. For strong hair with less breakage, try this home treatment; Mix 2 egg yolks & 3 teaspoons of castor oil. Massage into hair and leave in for 1 hour before rinsing. This treatment can be used daily, weekly, biweekly. You can never have too much egg on your head! Lastly…avocados. It’s not just for your famous guacamole! For severely damaged or dry hair try an avocado mask. Simply chop 1 avocado and mix in 1 egg yolk. After washing hair with shampoo apply the avocado mixture and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing with warm water. This treatment can be used once a week or as needed depending on the level of damage you hair has incurred. An avocado conditioner can be used after regular shampoos and can be made by mashing avocados into a paste and adding enough water to make a paste-like solution. These at home treatments are used in my home for my daughters and me. They are easy and affordable and are sure to have your hair healthy and beautiful for the New Year! My Body is My Temple, Not a Church for Everyone!!! By Dyna Reeves (http://allthingsdyna.blogspot.com) Growing up, there were always things that I was told that I could and couldn’t do as a woman; should, and shouldn’t do as a woman. I promised myself that when I “got big”, I was going to do everything that I was big enough to do whether or not I should or shouldn’t. I quickly learned how childish that thought was, and how the world’s double standard views of certain issues can make or break you on many levels. The major one that always sticks out is remaining intimately respectable. I can recall my grandmother telling me that a man can sleep with 100 women and still be just a man. If a woman sleeps with three men, she is labeled as a harlot. Is it fair? Absolutely not. Is it true? Absolutely not. There is however, some validity to the thought process. Women are the fruit of and bear the fruit of the earth. That alone affords us the right to feel regal. In feeling regal, we should want and expect more; not only of ourselves, but of the people that we allow into our lives. Everyone is not entitled to come into your world simply because they say a few nice words and buy a few expensive dinners. You are worth so much more than that. Your time, your energy, your body. You are a gem in every sense of the word, but in order to shine, you have to rise above the sea of refuse that may sometimes surround you. Wearing overly enticing clothing, though it is your option, may not always be the best road to travel. You most certainly will be treated as you are seen. A person will approach a woman in a mini skirt very differently than they approach her in a business suit; as well they should. Dress the part and demand the respect; others will soon follow suit.
Model: Shay Rozay MUA: Tyiesha Dorsett Photography: M. Jones Imaging
Along those lines, it is not necessary to bed every person that you date. If you feel that you need to do this in order to keep the person interested, nine times out of ten, afterwards, they won’t be. I think that we have lost sight of what dating is really supposed to be about. You date someone to get to know them and see how well the two of you mesh and engage. We as women tend to overlook the “little” things that are really screaming for our attention. We sometimes think, ‘oh, that will change once we’re a couple. It won’t. It will only become more prominent as time goes on. Consider it. When you meet someone new, you put your very best foot forward. Your best outfit, your best hair style, makeup, everything. So if that shoe that you are seeing from your date is lackluster, chances are, so is the wearer. When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. We were born with intuition; put it to good use. If you found this person, chances are you will find someone else just as quickly. Cherish yourself and your body. Only give of it when you find someone who is truly deserving and that should take some time to determine. Your body is your temple. Upkeep is no one else’s responsibility. If you don’t treasure it, how can you expect someone else to? Wait until you are ready to give all of yourself, and make sure that it is with someone who is well deserving. Someone who has your beliefs. Someone who has a plan for their life. Someone who is honest and comes with very minimal baggage and no hangers on from previous relationships. It takes real time to figure all of these things out, and if you wait, you just may find your soul mate.

The "Reality" of Working Out by Charity Lynette of Curvy Chick Fitness
During a recent invitation to Jetaime Shoes in Brooklyn by Celebrity Publicist MarieDriven, for a Sip and Shop event (awesome shoes by the way), I was able to get in a few words with the reality stars in attendance. I spent some one on one time with Casey Cartel and Dre P from Love Games season 4, VH1's Elizabeth Ann of Tough Love, Stephanie from Bad Girls’ Club Atlanta season 10, Tanisha Thomas Love Games season 4/Bad Girls’ Club season 2, and Renee Graziano of Mob Wives. Everyone had their own take on exercising, what motivates them, and body image and being in the industry. I'm going to share their advice on starting the road to a healthier lifestyle and what they do to keep in shape.
The two handsome fellas from Love games, both workout on a regular basis. Casey is a boxer that trains a variety of pro boxers and Dre P hits the weights and gets his cardio in. When I asked the guys what they felt about plus models in the industry, a wide eyed Dre P said "I love a woman with meat on her bones". Casey has much respect to the curvy community and that confidence is key when it comes to stepping into an industry so body conscious. When asked about the pressures of being and staying fit in front of the camera both said that working out is a part of their lifestyle and they workout for themselves and their well being.
Speaking with the fabulous ladies of VH1 and the Oxygen channel about body image and cameras generated different responses. The smaller girls VH1 Elizabeth Ann and Stephanie from Bad Girls’ club admitted that they don't like working out in the gym. Stephanie is dancer and that is her way of keeping fit with speaking to her she said she doesn't like to workout and that running is not her thing. I informed her that dancing is very much so a workout. A workout is not confined to a gym and treadmills. In fact, I try to keep my clients away from treadmills there is so many ways to get cardio in. Elizabeth flat out says that she does not like to work out. I spoke with her previously during a short consultation via the Curvy Chick Fitness Celebrity Edition. In the past, she had a trainer tell her she needs to do an hour on the elliptical machine, treadmill, etc. Ok not sure if you have ever seen this woman, but she is about 10% body fat if that! Never in her life does she need to spend an hour on any cardio machine. I told her no wonder you don't like to workout! She admits to not making the time for working out and being slightly jealous of the models in the plus community. "Those girls are looked at as beautiful and confident for being able to be who they want and they can eat!" I told her the pressure to look a certain way in this industry is there whether you are a straight sized or plus size. Plus models and entertainers are usually trying to get down to a smaller, but still considered plus, version of themselves.
So during this Sip and Shop event Ms. Renee Graziano came in fashionably late with a ...ice cream crunch bar! Soon as she walked in, I knew I had to talk to her. She was as cute as she could be trotting in munching away. Before long the photo opportunities took over and she was forced to put the treat down half eaten. Having a weight loss surgery started her journey but being a recovering addict has made the journey harder then need be. She now works with a trainer and a nutritionist on a regular basis to help her along this process. Her biggest piece of advice is to work with a nutritionist so you can understand food and what it does to your body then you can make better choices.
I hope that picture of me talking to Tanisha Thomas will give you an inkling of how hilarious this woman is, nonstop laughter! She feels that plus models don't get the respect they deserve which is why she is coming out with a plus line in January called Plush. Tanisha voiced that she is healthy and has no medical needs calling her to lose weight until the doctor tells her to worry that's when she will worry. Tanisha admitted that she thinks Hollywood wants her to be smaller, but she doesn't care what society wants her to do she's going to keep doing Tanisha. She knows plenty of people half her size with all kinds of medical problems so just because a person is smaller than someone else does not mean that they are healthier.
There are numerous ways to get started on this healthy lifestyle journey. First off, know it’s a journey and it is not going to happen overnight. Casey explains that loving yourself first is key. Once you have confidence in your corner, the world is yours and you can set out to accomplish any goal. This is so very important in accomplishing anything. Stephanie spoke on having a game plan, know what your goal is and have realist expectations. That way you’re not disappointed if thing don't go exactly the way you want. I agree with both Casey and Stephanie, but this fit curvy chick's number one advice is to take one goal at a time so that you can celebrate each of your victories. That way you are building your confidence with each goal that you meet and you can always have a proud moment with yourself. I hope this article finds you in good health; if not I hope it helps get you there! THE P.H.A.T GIRLS GUIDE TO FRESH
Written by: Maui Bigelow http://phatgirlfresh.blogspot.com/ https://www.facebook.com/BigmamasClothing https://www.facebook.com/maui.bigelow https://twitter.com/PHAT_GIRL_FRESH
There has been a curvy revolution going on for some time now, but some of our curvy sisters evidently didn’t get the memo. Well, I am declaring that 2013 is the year of the P.H.A.T GIRL! We aren’t waiting to lose weight to be who we were created to be now. The time is now and we are going to make our presence felt in a major way. I know that many of my P.H.A.T GIRLS have heard the statement, “oh she has a pretty face………” Well, we are not accepting that any more. We are more than just a pretty face. Just because we aren’t a size six doesn’t mean that our frame isn’t just as sexy and appealing as the next woman. Sexy has no size limit; confidence is sexy in any size. We are bold, sexy, and confident………. WE ARE P.H.A.T GIRL FRESH! I know that every year around this time, people start making New Year resolutions. Many individuals set resolutions that are extremely farfetched and end up crashing and burning by March. Every year, I hear one of my full-figured sisters say, “girl, I’m going to be bad when I lose weight.” My question is, what about now? It is okay to have a desire to change your body or become healthier, but that doesn’t mean you can’t embrace who you are now. If you aren’t able to love yourself in spite of, you are lost. So, the first step to being P.H.A.T GIRL FRESH is to learn to love the woman that you see in the mirror. None of us are perfect, nor will we ever be, so don’t expect to be. Never forget that we were all created with purpose and your existence is not a mistake. Every single detail was mapped out by our creator for a reason; from our parents all the way to the size of our waist. Many times, our lives and experiences are about others just as much as ourselves. Our testimony can change and impact the lives of others. Somewhere, there may be a woman or girl who needs to feed off of your positive attitude. They made need to witness your curvy confidence in order to tap into their own. Learn to love you, for you because without self love, you will never truly know how to give or receive love and most of all you will never be happy.
Another important part of being P.H.A.T GIRL FRESH is looking the part. Now, I am not saying that clothes make the woman but looking good and feeling good go hand in hand. I have styled and given makeovers to numerous women and once the transformation is complete, there is an instant emergence of a diva in most cases. I am not encouraging my sisters to go out and spend a small fortune. I am just saying embrace fashion and style. Don’t get confused about fashion and style, they are totally different things. Fashion are the things that you buy, style is what you do with those things once you get them. There is no place for reservation when it comes to the fashion forward P.H.A.T GIRL who is in pursuit of FRESH. Don’t hesitate to display your style. Vintage clothing is a great way to save money and put a new spin on an old look. I am a proud thrift shopper; I love spending $20 and coming home with several great pieces. Goodwill, consignment shops and even yard sales, are all great places to shop for Fresh vintage looks. Adding unique accessories is a way to take a basic look to the next level. I love wearing black; many times I will wear all black with unique colored earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings even shoes and bags. Always buy quality items, because they will last longer. Shop on the sales racks for bargains and don’t be ashamed to whip out a coupon or two, I sure am not. Lastly, revamp some of your older clothing by adding to or taking away from the original design, this will give you an entirely different look. The idea is to have fun and wear things that you are happy and comfortable with. Don’t be afraid to show a little skin, depending on the occasion. Avoid wearing clothing that is too big, because it tends to make you look even bigger. Wear clothing that compliment your figure and take attention away from problem areas. Don’t wear clothing that is too small because it can make your figure seem distorted. There are so many different directions you can take your look in to get to the final destination which is P.H.A.T GIRL FRESH. Although some women may not agree, makeup is another way to jazz up your look. I have heard many curvy divas swear off makeup for one reason or another. However, it is one of my favorite things and to me it helps bring a look together. I have had many jeans and t-shirt days in which I was totally FRESH because of my accents including makeup. The right lip and eye colors bring nearly any look alive. My personal favorite makeup look is the black Smokey eye with either a popping red or pink lip. Please don’t be afraid to play with colors that you feel are appropriate for you and dare to be different. Being P.H.A.T GIRL FRESH is not about one particular thing. It is about the complete package needed in the lives of all women, especially curvy women. We have sat by long enough and allowed society to make us feel like we weren’t worthy of all that life had to offer. Our time is now!!! So let’s own our existence and embrace it to the fullest. I challenge you to be Pretty, Haute and Thick because everything in life is best when it is FRESH.

Our lives haven’t been the same since the season finally of ABC’s hit show “Scandal”. If you are anything like me, you are counting down the days for the season premiere. On Scandal, Kerry Washington plays a Lawyer/Publicist aka “fixer”/president’s mistress with a team of Lawyers that are “Gladiators in suites”. This crisis management team can fix any problem from White House baby lies to runaway Dictator Wives. With a plot that is so rich, you may say to yourself, “how do they come up with this stuff?” Well, let me let you in on a secret. It is not all fiction. There is an actual Olivia Pope. Her real name is Judy Smith. Politicians, CEO’s and celebrities have Smith on speed dial when it comes to spinning issues and saving their reputations. Smith, former deputy press secretary for President George H. W. Bush, has fixed the problems of many high profile clients including former White House Intern Monica Lewinsky, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, former senator Larry Craig, actor Wesley Snipes, NBA player Kobe Bryant and companies such as Enron, Wal-Mart and BP (during the oil catastrophe in the Gulf). This American University's Washington College of Law trained lawyer worked alongside the show’s creator Shonda Rimes (also creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice) to develop Olivia Popes character. This Maverick can also add author and entrepreneur to her list of accomplishments. She has pinned a self-help book named “Good Self, Bad Self: Transforming Your Worst Qualities into Your Best Assets” and has establish her own Public Relations/crisis management firm, “Smith & Co.,” located in the D.C. area. Judy Smith is behind making the big problem go away and the muse for Rimes’ SCANDAL.

WORKOUT NOW, NO WEIGHT?! This time of year always brings on the extra pounds. There are holiday parties, work parties, and not to mention the infamous leftovers from Thanksgiving and Christmas. We tend to let ourselves go for the months of November and December then be like “on January 1st I’m getting back on track!” I know because one I’ve said it and done it, two I’ve worked in fitness quite some time and gym sales are through the roof the end of December through the end of January. Please know that you are not alone and this fit curvy chick is going to guide you though holiday eating and helpful quick workouts that will at least not let you gain but maintain your weight during these cold winter days.

Eat before you get there To help with over eating, eat before you get there. If your leaving from home this will work better. Have a small or snack packed with protein so that you will feel fuller longer. That way when you get to the party you won’t feel the need to make a full plate because you are so hungry from not eating since lunch time. Try vegetables with a hummus dip, apples and peanut butter, or nuts. Something so that when you get to the party you don’t feel like your stomach is going to eat itself. You could even go as far as making chicken or fish with a veggie if time permits. Use a small plate and cover it with food If you weren’t able to eat before then here is a way to not fill up on the wrong foods. Some times when you got to a party there are different size plates that are used for appetizers or dessert. Use that plate for your “meal”. Cover half the plate with colorful assortment of vegetables, fruit , or salad. A quarter of your plate with protein turkey, ham, or chicken. Then the other quarter with starches. Eat the veggie and fruit side first so that when you get to the other half you are slowing down because your getting full and even though those starches taste extremely good by the time you finish you will be full and not able to get seconds.
Socialize If you concentrate more on visiting with the guests then your not as liking to keep eating, especially if it is away from the food table. Socializing standing up is better than sitting down and talking. Try to find ways to keep moving so that your body is burning calories. If its a dancing holiday party then great bust a move! The dance floor is a great way to burn off some of those calories you just consumed. Don’t underestimate walking If you live in a area where public transportation is adequate get off a stop or two before your actual stop so that you can walk home. Make sure the area is safe or you walk with some one. Wait at least 20 minutes after you have completed the meal because your body still has to digest the food and absorb the nutrition intake. Walking after dinner is a great two part step to weight loss. First it has all the benefits of a normal walk taken at anytime of the day and second it helps start digestion. If you live in a building with an elevator walk up or take the elevator half way. Even taking on the stairs at a slow pace is still benefiting you and getting that food digested.
Make sure to pack healthy snacks Packing healthier snacks will lead to less over-eating and make you more aware of the bad foods. This is a busy time of the year and we tend to start our day without breakfast and skip meals because we are so busy. Pack snacks so that doesn’t happen and you don’t grab the bad snacks out of convenience. Easy things to put in a sandwich baggie nuts and dried fruit, peanut butter and crackers, and fresh fruits & vegetables.

Green Tea is your friend The benefits of green tea are amazing! One of the major ones is weight loss. Green Tea increases the metabolism. The Polyphenol found in green tea works to intensify levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories. Drinking tea before a meal will also make you feel full as well lessening the amount of food you eat.
Interactive TV/Computer time While watching TV and spending time on computer take frequent breaks. During the commercials do squats, leg lifts, push ups, crunches etc. so that your not just sitting for long periods of time. Keep a pair of dumb bells under the couch so you can do bicep curls and arm raises. While watching TV stretch. Stretching is a good stress and tension reliever. It also improves circulation, balance, coordination, and flexibility. These are just a few tips to help you during the holidays. Don’t wait on the weight. You don’t need the first of the year to get the ball rolling, start now working out and eating healthy do take some effort and time. Think of adding days to your life with every healthy thing that you do. Find time in your schedule to do these small things make it a family affair. Go on a family walk after dinner, have a play date with your kids outside doing something active or inside somewhere doing something active. Not only are you spending quality time with your family but your teaching them the value of taking care of themselves. If you already hit the gym or workout on a regular then continue to do so. If you know your going to be doing some holiday eating then adjust your workouts to make up for that. But the key is balance if your eat good 85 to 90 percent of the time then the two or three big meals won’t make you gain 10 lbs over the holiday season. Get your plate on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas day heck even a second plate. But three days later don’t be eating Aunt Jackie’s baked macaroni and cheese still. When there are leftovers concentrate on taking the protein and veggies leave the starches for someone else to take home. If you hosted and there are tons of leftovers even after everyone has filled up their to go containers then take them to a shelter or go where there are homeless people and feed them. My younger brother is very concerned about feeding the homeless. Whenever we had major left over's he would heat them up and drive them straight downtown and give it to people that were literally sleeping under bridges. Remember the season is about giving not eating! I hope that these tips find you in good health and if not then I hope they help get you there. Short, long, curly, straight, relaxed, natural, colored, weaves, extensions, wigs… Whatever your preference, we as woman adore our hair. Unfortunately, we don’t always treat it that way. So to help you put some love into your roots, here are some quick do’s and don’ts on marinating healthy hair. Photo By Moments by Mello.com DO remember to steam and treat your hair once you've put chemicals in it, such as relaxers and colors, untreated hair can lead to hair loss. •DO NOT brush your hair when it’s soaking wet, when hair is wet, it’s at its weakest stage. Applying that much pressure to it will cause major damage. •DO trim your ends. Trimming and cutting are totally different. Trimming simply removes dead ends promoting even growth and reducing the chances of split ends. •DO NOT use too much heat in your hair. While curling irons, flat irons and blow dryers make our lives easier by allowing us to wear just about any style we can think up, these tools can also cause irrevocable damage when used too often or incorrectly. Try other methods (i.e. Roller setting) •DO wrap your hair when going to bed at night. Not only does wrapping your hair at night save you time in the morning, but it also protects your delicate tresses while sleeping. •DO NOT forget to clean your brushes and combs. Let them soak in warm, soapy water once a week. •DO wash hair after swimming in chlorinated water. •DO NOT tie your hair back too tightly and never when it is wet. This stretches the hair shaft, causing it to break and split. •DO remember to show your hair Love at all times. So there you have it!!! I hope these tips help to keep your hair in tip top condition.
