Summer In

Welcome

back Full Throttle readers! Rocky here to give you the latest info from St. Charles Harley Davidson. In June we hosted the Mid-America national HOG Rally where the scorching summer heat and road construction did not deter motorcycle enthusiasts from across the nation as they converged at our dealership for the exciting Rally.

The event, spanning several event packed days June 21st-24th, celebrated the spirit of freedom and a love for the open road. Each day had 7-10 groups rides to choose from varying in distance and time on the road. With THOUSANDS of riders in attendance the rally surpassed all expectations, delivering an unforgettable experience that left a lasting impact on participants and the local community alike.

This month’s bike night will take place on the 20th of July. We have Big ATV Air making an appearance. They are a stunt group catching big air off of ramps with their ATVs. Calendar girl contest, free food, and plenty of vendors to check out. Come on by to have some fun at this event!

I want to tell you all about a RARE motorcycle here at St. Charles Harley Davidson. FAST JOHNIE. You may have read about it before. Named after the legendary racer Lawrence Ray Weishaar who would take his pet piglet along with him on victory laps. The bike is a blue with white racing stripes Road Glide ST. This is a limited production bike and will be the only one we get. The bike boasts the biggest factory engine with 117 cubic inches. Blacked out with bronze accents

and a solo seat. Loaded with navigation, ABS, RDRS(traction during acceleration, deceleration and braking) and vehicle hold control(VHC) to keep the motorcycle from rolling, making it easier to ride away when starting on a hill, a bridge or a parking ramp. This motorcycle stands out in a crowd and cant be missed. It wont be around for long so stop in to St Charles Harley Davidson to have a look.

This month I want to talk about a new set of parts from Harley Davidson this year called the Adversary Collection. The collection is new this year and has gone relatively unnoticed. Designed to give an aggressive and refined custom appearance. Available in two color choices graphite finish or my personal favorite, the gloss black with orange accents. Made from forged billet aluminum the collection has derby covers, timing covers, grips, mirrors, floorboards, brake pedal, shifter pegs, foot pegs, and highway pegs. For those going the extra mile with their customizing, HD has the engine kit! Which includes lower rocker box covers, tappet covers and push rod collars in orange to compliment the Adversary collection. Stop on by St Charles Harley Davidson to see them on our showroom floor.

Thank you for reading!

Feed your inner child, go ride, be wild!

CRACK UP’S

So the Pope is SUPER early for his flight. He asks his driver on his way to the airport if he could drive around for a while because they have time to kill and he hasn't driven a car since becoming the pope. Naturally, he's a bit rusty, so he's driving poorly, when suddenly he sees police lights behind him. He pulls over and when the officer comes up to the window his eyes go wide. He says to the pope "Hold on for a minute," and goes back to his car to radio the chief.

Cop: "Chief we have a situation. I've pulled over an important figure."

Chief: "How important? A governor or something?"

Cop: "No sir. He's bigger."

Chief: "So, what? a celebrity or something?"

Cop: "More important, sir."

Chief: "A major politician?"

Cop: "No sir, he's much more important."

Chief: "WELL WHO IS IT!?"

Cop: "Well actually I'm not sure. But the pope's his driver."

Finally, the NASA crew called in an official government translator. His translation of the old man's message was: "Watch out for these guys; they have come to steal your land."

Three couples are trying to get married at the same church. There is a young couple, a middle-aged couple, and an elderly couple. The three couples meet with the priest and discuss when they can get married.

"If you wish to get married in my church, you must all go one month without having sex," says the priest.

One month later the three couples return to the church and talk to the priest. He then asks the elderly couple,

"Have you completed the month with sex?" "Yes we have, it was easy," replies the elderly couple.

NASA was preparing for the Apollo project. When NASA was preparing for the Apollo project, some of the training of the astronauts took place on a Navajo reservation.

One day, a Navajo elder and his son were herding sheep and came across the space crew. The old man, who spoke only Navajo, asked a question that his son translated. "What are these guys in the big suits doing?"

A member of the crew said they were practicing for their trip to the moon. The old man got all excited and asked if he could send a message to the moon with the astronauts. Recognizing a promotional opportunity, the NASA folks found a tape recorder.

After the old man recorded his message, they asked his son to translate it. He refused. The NASA PR people brought the tape to the reservation, where the rest of the tribe listened and laughed, but refused to translate the elder's message.

"How about you?" He asks the middle-aged couple. "It was hard, but we didn't have sex for the whole month," they respond.

"And how about you two?" He asks the young couple. "No we couldn't do it," responds the boyfriend.

"Tell me why," says the priest.

"Well my girlfriend had a can of corn in her hand and she accidentally dropped it. She bent over to pick it up and that's when it happened."

The priest then tells them, "You're not welcome in my church."

"We're not welcome in the supermarket either," says the boyfriend.

A Ride A Day Keeps

Have you ever had one of those days where you just wanted to scream and run for the hills? Or felt an insurmountable obstacle that you just couldn't overcome. Well, studies have now shown that hoping on your motorcycle is just what the Doctor ordered. Harley-Davidson set out to prove a theory that the health and well-being of an individual can change by simply hoping of the back of a motorcycle. In doing my research, I can across this article that spells out their research and findings.

"A UCLA study funded by Harley-Davidson has revealed a selection of potential mental and physical benefits to riding a motorcycle.

Many motorcyclists champion riding as an invaluable tool for stress relief and positive mental health – and now the results of a neurobiological study conducted by UCLA researchers has yielded pioneering scientific evidence to support that claim.

Researchers recorded participants’ brain activity, heart rate, as well as levels of adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol before, during, and after motorcycling, driving a car, and resting –and found that motorcycling increased metrics of focus and attention, and decreased relative levels of cortisol, a hormonal marker of stress. While riding a motorcycle, participants also experienced increased sensory focus and resilience to distraction. And that’s not all – riding also produced an increase in adrenaline levels and heart rate, as well as a decrease in cortisol metrics – results often associated with light exercise and stress-reduction.

Dr. Don Vaughn, the neuroscientist who led the research team, said: “Stress levels, especially among young adults, continue to rise, and people are exploring pathways to better their mental and physical health. Until recently, the technology to rigorously measure the impact of activities like motorcycling on the brain didn’t exist. The brain is an amazingly complex organ and it’s fascinating to rigorously investigate the physical and mental effects riders report.”

The study found;

• Riding a motorcycle decreased hormonal biomarkers of stress by 28%.

Page 18 www.FullThroTTle-Magazine.coM

Keeps The Doctor Away

• On average, riding a motorcycle for 20 minutes increased participants’ heart rates by 11 percent and adrenaline levels by 27 percent—similar to light exercise.

• Sensory focus was enhanced while riding a motorcycle versus driving a car, an effect also observed in experienced meditators vs non-meditators.

• Changes in study participants’ brain activity while riding suggested an increase in alertness similar to drinking a cup of coffee.

UCLA Professor and senior team member Dr. Mark Cohen, said: “While scientists have longstudied the relationship of brain and hormone responses to attention and stress, doing so in real-life conditions such as these is rare. No lab experiment can duplicate the feelings that a motorcyclist would have on the open road.”

Dr. Vaughn added: “The differences in participants’ neurological and physiological responses between riding and other measured activities were quite pronounced. This could be significant for mitigating everyday stresses.”"

I'd say riding a motorcycle, whether a driver or passenger, is definitely one of the best stress relieving activing there is. Is it because it’s un-inhibiting, a sense of freedom, an adrenaline rush? I would say yes and much more. It’s the feeling of exhilaration, the wind racing past you. When you are racing down the highway are 60, 70 or 80 mph and then you come to a stop, how your skin is tingly, the hairs on your body are standing on end. Your senses are heightened; everything from your reflex actions to your sense of sound and even smells. In the springtime, when the trees and flowers are in full bloom, take a ride and smell how the honeysuckle is so sweet in the air. You can never experience that traveling in a car. Or in the middle of a beautiful Summer day when you are riding down a curvy road and you come upon a glorious canopy of trees that shelters you from the hot sun and how the shade gives off a cool breeze. There is nothing to obstruct your views of Gods landscaping. Why would you not want to experience this?
