INTRODUCING THE COLLECTION

The SS22 Collection celebrates freedom and a re-definition of daily life which balances work and free time in a new flexible way. In this new mind-set, we aspire to spend as much time outdoors as possible, looking for a mid-day escape or a breath of fresh air at the end of each day. We trade traditional transportation for bicycles and long walks, which allow for maximum freedom as we feel the wind filling our spirits and the sunshine enlightening our souls. The collection takes us on this journey from the hectic city to the surrounding countryside, to witness the flowering fields and wonders of nature with the re-birth of spring.

The various lines in the collection offer a balance of functionality and aesthetics with harmony in volumes and proportions, with an acute attention to detail. The bags can be worn by hand, but also with added possibilities to wear in multiple ways with the adjustable shoulder straps, perfect for the bike rides or daily excursions. The shapes of new models are studied with a peculiar attention to softness and volume, such as the new Dafne top handle and satchel, with a touch of youthfulness in the mini shoulder bag version. Bucket bags with soft volumes in grainy leather complete the Atena line, and a new version in a double leather is added in the new Clio line.

The various textures of materials are a tribute to this dichotomy of the city and countryside: colorblocking mixed with soft grainy textures suggest a relaxed but elegant approach, with hobos and saddle bags in core neutral colors and new casual satchels for a preppy feel. Soft volumes are emphasized by use of textiles like denim jacquard in blue tones and canvas mixed with contrast leather binding and embroidered edges lending a refined and handcrafted element. A feeling of adventure and collegiate spirit is highlighted by the new addition of nylon in a soft color and the re-edition of Arcomania print in seasonal Muschio tones and a sporty variation of Marmo with racing-stripe detail. Exotic print leathers are presented, with a soft Cocco in new color tones and an embossed snakeskin Ayers in neutral and green tones. In the last delivery, a floral printed leather gives a vibrant pop, a clear sign that Summer has arrived.

Leather is a durable and flexible material created by tanning animal rawhide and skins. The most common raw material is cattle hide. It can be produced at manufacturing scales ranging from the artisan to the modern industrial scale. Leather is used to make a variety of articles, including footwear, automobile seats, clothing, bags, book bindings, fashion accessories, and furniture. It is produced in a wide variety of types and styles and decorated using a wide range of techniques. The earliest record of leather artifacts dates back to 2200 BC.

A hide consists of three layers: o Epidermis: the external part of the skin, removed at the tannery. o Intermediate layer: the central part and the only one which will be transformed in leather. The top of this layer is called the hair side (pieno fiore) and differs with each animal; the layer below is called the split (crosta). o Base: the part between the skin and the flesh, not used by the tannery

The full grain is the top layer of a hide and it’s the most important and valuable part of the hide. Particularly pliable and soft, it lends itself to be used for high-quality products. The most valuable leathers are those which undergo fewer manufacturing processes, since they show the features of the leather. The intermediate layer of a hide is normally used for making suede; it may be used for polyurethane finishing as well. It’s made by fluffing and smoothing the flesh side of a hide surface to produce a napped surface characterized by different shades obtained by stroking the napped surface against the grain. Modern-day processing has made it possible to obtain very supple leathers of excellent quality. In fact, it is finished with special coatings that make it water-repellent and scratch-resistant.

Crafting

Reverse Stitching: the technique is typically used for making apparel items. Stitching is made on the reverse side and then the material is turned right side out.

Column Machine Stitching: this type of workmanship is typical of boot making. The column sewing machine, where from this type of stitching takes its name, has a very long arm which permits stitching even of parts that are extremely difficult to reach with traditional machines. Rigid and convex shapes with harder materials can thus also be worked.

Clean cut stitching: the technique especially lends itself to working stiffer leathers. It consists in stitching together from the outside two pieces of leather to make up the side of the product called “the hem.” The hem is subsequently polished to obtain a uniform surface and thickness. The final step consists in varnishing the hem so as to give it the same colour of the leather: the hem is further polished with a clear gloss protective layer that protects it and gives it a richer and more polished aspect.

Other Materials

Gros Grain Lining: Orthogonal fabric is 88% viscose 22% polyammide. It’s used for bags and pouches. Cleaning depends on how the lining is applied. In bag lining, the lining is not attached to the bottom and sides of the product, but around the edge’s perimeter and thus can be taken out. Clean using a damp cloth. Given its structure, avoid vigorous forms of maintenance. Attached lining: the lining is fully attached to the product and cannot be pulled out. Clean using a damp cloth, taking care not to damage the internal stitching

Moiré Lining: the fabric is 100% viscose and is used for wallets. The fabric has a wavy appearence created by a finishing technique called calendering. The fabric is folded in half lengthwise and passed through hot engraved rolls. The pattern is formed from the impression and a natural rubbing of fibers. Since the fabric is the result of a physical phenomenon, any irregularities of the surface are not imperfections but a characteristic of the material. Do not wet or dampen the lining

TOP HANDLE BAG Simple squarish or rectangular shape, usually closed with a flap or with kiss locks. As the name suggests, it features only one handle on top; it can also have an additional crossbody to make it more functional.

DOME BAG Usually trapezoid in shape, with a larger bottom and shorter top. It features a top zip closure and two small top handles.

SHOULDER BAG Simple with an overall squarish or rectangular profile. It can be open or closed on top, with one or two handles that allows the wearer to carry it on the shoulder.

CROSSBODY BAG One of the most popular shapes: simple, with an overall squarish or rectangular profile. It features a long leather or chain strap, allowing it to be worn across the body. A sliding strap can be used to provide more functionality.

Camera bag CAMERA BAG Squarish and roomy, it takes its inspiration from the photographer case . It is usually small or medium in size and has a unique inner compartment.

SADDLE BAG The most traditional saddle bag consists of two large bags or pouches which hang on either side of a saddle on the hips of a horse. In cycling, saddle bags could be attached under the seat of a motorcycle or bicycle. Nowadays, it also refers to a small horseshoe-shaped crossbody bag with a flap cover.

SATCHEL BAG The Satchel Bag is usually trapezoid in shape, with a flat bottom that allows it to stand upright. Satchels also feature flat sides and roomy interiors. It can have one or two top handles.

HOBO BAG A slouchy shaped shoulder bag with a long, usually flat shoulder strap and a scooped center. The original style was designed as a unisex carryall.

BUCKET BAG Shape originally introduced by Louis Vuitton’s Noe Bag, used by champagne vintners to transport bottles. It has a drawstring top closure with buttons or a magnetic clasp on the inside. The Bucket bag features a structured bottom with a slouchier top.

BACKPACK A bag worn on the back, of small or medium size, intended for daily use. They are practical and functional, usually featuring an external zipped pocket. They are suitable for both work or daily errands depending on the model and size.

BELT BAG Type of bag typically worn around the waist to hold smaller objects and minimal essentials. It is especially useful as it keeps the wearer hands-free during travel, or any other activity.

CLUTCH Typically without straps or handles, a clutch is a small handbag designed to be held or carried under the arm. Due to its compact size, clutches are usually used for evening occasions to carry minimal essentials such as a phone, credit cards and smaller cosmetic items.
