Searching for a calm hangout around Fort Kochi? Pepper House Cafe may be an answer. It is an old warehouse turned cafe. This place has a lot to say about history and heritage. You can read, write or work and stay as long as you want. Though you might deem the menu short, the food is great especially if you heading there for breakfast or better yet a relaxing brunch.

to make items like pasta, burger, nuggets and also dishes like Keema Masala.
Beef it up
Poultry Tale • Curry cut - when it comes to poultry, the most commonly opted for are the run of the mill chicken cut in curry size with no bones and cut into cubes. • Whole chicken meat - often chosen by those who want to make roasted chicken, or malabari dishes like “kozhi nirachathu”, it is also taken fully for preparing chicken broth. • Biriyani cut - large pieces which are used for making dishes like Biriyani, grilled chicken, crumb coated fried chicken etc. • Chicken breasts - separately bought by those who are health conscious and prefer this part with the lowest fat content. They are usually cooked up as pan fries, or roasted to retain flavour. • Chicken mince - for making dishes like cutlets, pasta, burgers, nuggets etc.
The most number of varieties available in Lulu Hypermarket is in beef, and it is categorised according to the place in the body of the animal it comes from, and the amount of toughness and fat that it will contain. Here are the cuts you need to know. • Sirloin, short loin - comes from the back of the beef and are usually less worked and hence tender and easily cooked. These cuts are preferred for making steaks as they can be cooked through easily in less time without getting overdone. • Flank, brisket - usually well worked and contain grit and they require to be cooked for longer. These meats are usually bought by those who would like to make dishes like curries, roasts and such which will be on the stove for longer. • Ribs - most favoured beef cut which are extremely tender and can be easily cooked in any way and combined with flavourful sauces. • Beef mince - easily available which are used

Weaving Tales for an International Audience
The man with the words, Vivek Ranjit is now the most wanted ‘subtitler’ in the Malayalam film industry. Shani Shaki
T
The success of Bangalore Days outside Kerala not only proved the strength of international audience for Malayalam films but also established the significance of subtitles. The Malayalam film industry has got a professional ‘subtitler’, Vivek Ranjit. An FTII Pune passout and a screenwriter, he was the screenwriter of ‘Kili poyi’ and has written the screenplay of the upcoming Nivin Pauly starrer, Amar Chitra Gadha. Even though he is doing subtitling now, Vivek loves screenwriting at heart. Vivek’s subtitling has paved the way for international viewers for our world class Malayalam films. Q: You are the only professional full time ‘subtitler’ in the Malayalam industry? A: I think so. But there are people who do this occasionally. Q: When do you do subtitling, before or after the film release? A: I did my first subtitling job for ‘Beautiful’ when the film went for the National Award. But now, after Bangalore Days and Premam became hits outside Kerala, subtitling became an ongoing process with the post production works. From Nirnayakam to You Too Brutus, I did subtitling before release. But the first film released with the subtitles that I did was Kunjiramayanam. Q: Basically you are a screenwriter, so how does it feel when you translate a dialogue

you don’t love personally? A: Yes there were many instances like that. But I do what I should do. I can’t interfere in one’s creativity, right? So I translate it just like that. Q: What is the toughest thing about subtitling? What are the limitations you felt so far? A: Subtitling is not as simple as we think. I find it really difficult when it comes to humour and songs. The idioms and phrases that we Malayalis use can’t be directly translated into English. We have so many jokes that only we can understand. Some jokes are only relevant when it is said in that particular language. Likewise songs need poetic verses and with that my mother helps me to sort it out. Q: Is there any instance, when you felt like changing the dialogue to convey the exact meaning? A : Yes of course. Sometimes we need to research and come up with suitable translations. We can’t just translate word by word. To make it meaningful, I use apt translations in order to convey the meaning perfectly. hat will you do with your demanding toddler at a busy shopping mall? Sparky’s has the answer. Drop your kid off at the Kid Zone and continue with your shopping at Lulu Mall. It’s a fun zone where kids will never hesitate to step in. They can play, roll, slide, climb, cook and do whatever they want under the watchful eyes of trained care takers. Sparky’s Kid Zone is at the basement of Lulu Mall with five caretakers. They take kids within 120cm height and if your child is too small and tough to handle, you can also enter the fun zone. Adventure lovers can climb the wall or roll in the ball pit. There is a basketball and football playing area. Bored with shopping? Yes you can surely watch these busy kids from the ground floor. ‘It is really useful and a joyous place for children,’ says Mathew’s mother. Adventure boy Vaishak’s favourite thing about kid zone is the bouncing ball. He tried everything and he just felt happy when he bounced around with the big fluffy ball. Nikku’s all time favourite at Kid Zone is the roll and slide area where kids can roll among the spongy balls. The busiest spots in the Kids Zone are the kitchen and the supermarket area. There you can see budding chefs prepare coffee in frying pans. Kids Zone is active from 10 am to 9.30 pm every day.
