A LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
As an editor, I find that one of the most exciting parts of my job is seeing how designers interpret a theme. For this issue of Wool Studio, our submission call requested designs that played with the concept of “building blocks,” an open-ended assignment with a mood board that included some of my own initial reactions: color blocking, boxy silhouettes, and interesting knit/purl stitch patterns (the building blocks of all knitting patterns). The submissions we received expanded my own partially realized vision for this collection to greater heights, bringing in elements of architectural inspiration, unique construction techniques, and simple but effective details. From large, color-blocked triangles (Pinwheel Pullover, page 8) to bold, intersecting lines pulled from Brutalist monoliths (Barbican Cardigan, page 44), the ten patterns in this collection represent the diverse viewpoints of our designers and showcase the depth of their creativity. Good design goes only so far without a stellar yarn, and Wool Studio has always strived to bring you beautiful yarns paired with modern designs. As you flip through this collection, I hope you’ll appreciate the way that yarn and pattern work together to create these stunning sweaters and accessories. Many thanks to our partners for supplying another essential building block in this process, the yarn: Plymouth Yarn, Fairmount Fibers, Mountain Meadow Wool, Blue Sky Fibers, Green Mountain Spinnery, Harrisville Designs, Ancient Arts Fibre Crafts, Trendsetter Yarns, and Universal Yarn. I hope this collection excites and inspires you.
Happy knitting,
Stephanie

The oversized triangles in alternating colors give the Pinwheel Pullover its name. ASHLAR PULLOVER RACHEL BROCKMAN
The Ashlar Pullover’s simple shape, with easily memorized motifs, is brought to life through thoughtful details. Playful dotted stripes of contrasting color decorate the hems, cuffs, sleeve tops, and neckband, and are mirrored in solidcolor seams along the sides and shoulders of the sweater. Although the modern silhouette is intentionally boxy, clever shaping at the armholes, neckline, and shoulders ensures a good fit. The cardigan is worked in one piece from the bottom up, then is split at the underarms. The sleeves are picked up from the armholes and worked in the round.
