Black Cat - White Cat This friendly little pet is on this list because it does not necessarily have to be be a sign of bad luck. In Anglo-Saxon cultures black cat is a symbol of good luck and happiness. Some believe that we will have luck if we take care of stray black kitten. Unlike Poland, a white cat is considered unlucky in Anglo-Saxon countries. A horse is another lucky animal. A white horse can bring good luck to the couple that meets it.

This is by far the most adventurous moment in life. This fact is known by every man. Any inconspicuous event can either bring good or bad luck. It turned out that the key decision in matters of wedding is the selection of the month with the letter "r" in its name. Other, equally important matters are tossing rice over heads of newly-weds, or covered heels and toes in the bride’s shoes. These are only some of the ways to ensure a good fortune. There are still more original methods which are also worth remembering. Do not forget, for example, that you need to sew up some sugar and bread crumbs in your underwear. The bride must remember to smile during her walk on the aisle to the altar. She also must cry a bit when the mass is over.

You do not need to do much to gain happiness and health for the whole year. Just spend one day a year on eating doughnut food. Not only it is a pleasant activity but in addition it can be very beneficial. The Fat Thursday is a tradition that exists in Poland since the sixteenth century. The last Thursday before Lent, a period of abstinence, you could spend on indulging yourself. In contrast to the present, the doughnuts were not always sweet. Previously, they were made of bread dough and stuffed with bacon. To be happy all year, you have to eat at least one doughnut and it’s best when you will eat out as many of them as possible.

Nothing can bring greater happiness than a successful day of birth. Although we cannot choose the day on which we want our baby to be born, we can help our luck a bit when planning a baby. Virtually everything is important here - the day of the week, hour, a number that comes from counting the digits that our birth date consists of. But the luckiest people are those who were born on one special day during the year – on 29th of February. According to superstition, people who were born on February 29 will always be lucky.

The Matura exam is one of the most stressful moments in life and it is also connected with many superstition. In this case, you can count on proven ways of dealing with it. As we know a definite must for a successful exam is not only the acquisition of necessary knowledge. Perhaps even more important and equally important is to wear red lingerie you had worn on the prom, or to sleep with the book under the pillow. But there are other and more imaginative superstiotions. We also know the fact that a student cannot cut his or her hair from the prom to the time of the exam itself. Some of them go even further and from the evening before the exam they do not wash themselves at all. Moreover, some of the high school students do not change clothes for the entire period of the Matura exams.

If we will be treated in a hospital it is worth considering over the date on which we will show up there. Of course, it would be useful to calculate the configuration of the digits our birth date consists of and take the results to the numerologist. However, we only have to know on which day the operation will take place. According to Richard Webster’s "The Encyclopedia of Superstitions” the best day to start treatment is Wednesday. If we want to leave the hospital do it on Monday. This will ensure our well-being and we won’t come to the hospital back again any time soon.

Passing a driving exam in Poland is really hard thing to do. No wonder that the fear of taking the exam paralyzes majority of the want-to-be drivers. Is there a proven method to pass a driver's license exam, or at least help our luck? In this case methods that we use on the other occasions are applied such as putting a small figure of elephant in our pocket, or wearing a talisman on our neck. We should also not tell anyone about the date of the exam. Some also say that women should do their hair up.


Sugar in coffee ď‚›

Coffeegrounds are used to predict the future. But it turns out that drinking coffee can bring us luck, too. However, one should do it skillfully. In Brazil, there is a belief that pouring sugar into the cup before pouring the coffee can bring us long-term luck. When we do it regularly we also have a chance to win a fortune. If there are bubbles on the surface of the coffee we will receive an additional amount of money, too. However, we will get the money only when we swallow the bubbles which is not an easy task to accomplish.


Chewing Gum 

All Muslims are not allowed to chew gum or use lipstick during the Ramadan because part of the gum or lipstick may accidentally be found in the mouth. During the Ramadan, the Turkish people do not chew gum, too. They don’t do it during the day because of fast. But do they chew it during the night? The answer is „no”. All because of the popular superstition - "who is chewing gum at night, really chews the body of the dead." A person who does so is jinxed and will be cursed even after his death....

Who will die first? Among many prophecies connected with photographies one of the most popular is the one that is about the "thievery" of the soul by the photographer. This extraordinary belief that the photo can deprive us of our selfhood is shared by most Indians and Aborigines. Those, however, who had the opportunity to come into contact with such shaking with fear Indian know perfectly well that there is a way to overcome his fear. The relevant fee or some other form of "reward" given to such perosn is enough to deal with fear.

But there is something different about the superstition connected with the majority of the Japanese people. It’s the most gloomy and bizarre superstition even for the strict Japanese standards. Residents of the Land of the Rising Sun believe that if a photographer takes a picture of three people at a time, the one that is in the middle will die first.
