Module Brief Title: Product, Range & Distribution

STUDIO BRIEF 1: Project Proposal Project Rationale: GABRIELLA BRACHO Project Rationale. (what do you intend to do and why?) Create an enduring narrative that informs, directs and enriches the source material and contextual research that I have conducted throughout the early stages of the module. I intend to narrative and illustrate a certain aspect of folklore, as well as focus on the narrative and character aspects of certain tales that are apart of certain customs that aren’t European. I’ve decided to focus on non-European folktales since I wish to aim it at a more diverse audience and to children who don’t know any other fairytales besides the most well-known stories, or children who are from diverse backgrounds themselves. The work produced must help inform, or enrich the narrative itself and have a consistency of its own. I also intend to focus on colour, texture, shape, position and scale on this project in relation to the different culture I’ll be both learning about and responding to.

THEMES / SUBJECTS What Themes/Subjects will form the content of your work for this module? This should include Theoretical and non- creative based content and concerns. This section should identify your consideration of the social, cultural, ethical and creative concerns of contemporary practice GENERAL THEMES:

Character & Narrative Culture Folklore Storytelling Literature SPECIFIC SUBJECTS: Cultural Identity (?) Importance of folklore/literature/storytelling (?) Importance of creativity & arts in young people/children Importance of imagination Diverse storytelling

PRACTICAL & CONCEPTUAL APPLICATION What areas of Illustration do you intend to investigate in relation to the practical and conceptual, production / distribution of work in response to selected briefs. SPECIFIC DISCIPLINARY AREA: Character & Narrative Conceptual work & design Storyboards

AUDIENCE/CONTEXTS: Young people / children (?) General audience Primary/Secondary school students PRODUCTION / DISTRIBUTION METHODS: Design Boards Storyboards Character sheets Book series (?) Zines/Publications Online Presence (?) Set of Prints Stationary CONTEXTUAL REFERENCES Identify areas of professional/creative practices that will inform the contextualization of the work that you produce. CREATIVE SKILLS What practical skills do you intend to further develop and apply during your project. What do you intend to use the skills for. Consider extending the use of skills that you already have in order to deliver work of a higher standard as well as identifying new skills that you will need to develop.

Thematic consistency running through the scale of the project with a development in setting and atmosphere, as well as character design and a narrative structure. The visuals must help serve and enrich the narrative. Exhaust conceptual ideas and manage refinement through a broad range of mediums and possible answers to the idea itself. Develop conceptual skills overall and keep up an ongoing creative process through my practice, understanding certain aspects of this specialisation and how it feeds into other specialisations. Recognize the importance of design in relation to character and theme. Blend both traditional and digital mediums and work towards creating a more refined method of process. I’ll identify what certain skills I am strong with and also recognise my own weaknesses. Work towards a range of results through this exhaustive creative process.

KEY TEXTS. List a selected number of books, articles and texts that are central to your proposed area of practice. These should include a combination of design and non-practice based books, theoretical texts as well as visual publications. You should include a list of relevant websites
