After working for over twenty years with his uncle Philippe, one of the greatest Impressionist and Modern Art dealers of his generation, Jean-François Cazeau opened his gallery in September 2009 in the heart of the Marais district of Paris, rue Sainte Anastase, a few steps away from the Picasso Museum. Jean-François Cazeau uses his knowledgeable expertise and advice on Impressionist and Modern Art in keeping with a family tradition, whilst also paying close attention to the transformations of his era and being involved in the Contemporary Art Market. This dual ambition has made the gallery a major actor of the French and international art scenes. The gallery permanently shows works by Impressionist and Modern masters such as Pierre Bonnard, Marc Chagall, Alberto Giacometti, Juan Gris, Fernand Leger, André Masson, Amedeo Modigliani, Henri Matisse, Joan Mirò, Pablo Picasso and Alfred Sisley. It complements this strong selection with key artists of the post-war era including Gaston Chaissac, Jean Dubuffet, Philip Guston, Hans Hartung, Yves Klein, Yayoi Kusama, Joan Mitchell and Niki de Saint Phalle. The hanging presentations of the gallery often attempt to create bridges between different artistic movements, in a variety of techniques, and across the twentieth century. In recent years the gallery has presented varied and exceptionally wellthought-out exhibitions to shine some light on artists whose place in art history is essential, but that have not yet experienced the same amount of visibility as some of their contemporaries. From Auguste Herbin’s geometrical abstraction, to Afro Basaldella’s first dedicated exhibition in France, the gallery has curated strong exhibitions, providing it’s visitors with thought-provoking presentations and historical insights.
Ballon Rouge Collective is a commercial gallery founded by Helene Dumenil in 2017. From September 2017 through January 2019, Ballon Rouge will have curated exhibitions in Istanbul, London, Los Angeles, Brussels, Sao Paulo, Paris and New York. Each city has a local ambassador representing the collective whose responsibility it is to manage and curate their city’s exhibitions and promote the mission of Ballon Rouge. A primary objective of Ballon Rouge is to offer emerging and talented artists an opportunity to exhibit their work on an international level alongside other Collective artists and to provide them with an opportunity seldom available to promising artists working to establish their careers. The roster of artists who have exhibited with Ballon Rouge Collective include: Iseri in Istanbul (curated by Nicole O’Rourke), Tom Lowe in London (curated by Burcu Yuksel), Samuel Jablon in Los Angeles (curated by Brigitte Mulholland), Philip Janssens in Brussels (curated by Evelyn Simons), Bruna Canepa in Sao Paulo (curated by Sol Camacho), Marie Jacotey in Paris (curated by Anlam de Coster) and Carmen Argote in New York (curated by Kathy Battista). Ballon Rouge will be participating in NADA Miami 2018, sharing a booth with Hannah Barry Gallery (London), with a solo presentation of artist Marie Jacotey. Helene Dumenil is the founder and advisor for Ballon Rouge. She has been working in the art world since 2007 with a focus in Contemporary and emerging art. She is a Paris-born Brussels-based art advisor, curator and collector. She has worked in NYC for Sotheby’s in the Contemporary Department, galleries in Chelsea and Brooklyn. She founded a curatorial space in New York called HD Projects and later partnered with Christopher Crescent in Brussels. She has an MA in Contemporary Art from Sotheby’s Institute in New York.

Samuel JABLON (Born 1986)
Sam Jablon is born in Binghamton, NY in 1986. He has been living and working in Brooklyn, NY since 2008, and has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (NY), The Queens Museum, MOCAD Detroit, Hauser & Wirth, Storefront for Art and Architecture, The Kitchen, Artists Space, with solo exhibitions at Freight + Volume (NY), Arts + Leisure (NY), and Diane Rosenstein (LA). His work has been reviewed in The Wall Street Journal, Art in America, ARTnews, The Brooklyn Rail, BOMB, Interview Magazine, and others. First a poet, but very early on exposed to painting by his artist mother, Jablon has created a universe centered around words laid down on colored canvases. Every work is a snapshot of a poem he has either written or imagined. Jablon takes from his everyday experiences in NYC as his inspiration. Words overheard in the subway, glimpsed on an advertisement, or simply thought of on his daily walks, end up creating a statement then transported onto his various sized canvases in a whirlwind of variating colors. The only spot of monochrome color in his studio is his fully black working outfit. An abstract, almost expressionist, background is first applied to every work, creating a basis on which to calligraphy the letters of the chosen phrase that will be applied by the artist. The chosen sentence can be a direct reflection to a recent experience, to Jablon’s current mood or simply of a three-week brainstorming process. The most striking aspect to Jablon’s work is the duality and binary element to the universality of the English language paired with the rootedness of the words often unique to a New York City experience. Even in the technique a confrontation exists: the intellectuality of the words, so thought out, is confronted by a raw, more instantaneous, painting technique by applying layers of acrylic and oil paint in random bigger brushstrokes powered by intuition.

Many artists, especially in the second half of the 20th century have experienced with the concept of directly writing on the canvas: Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer, Christopher Wool, On Kawara, Ed Ruscha, Richard Prince, Jonathan Meese, Glenn Ligon…often influenced by the abstract expressionist developments of the post-war artistic landscape. Jablon’s work creates a dialogue with the experiments of such artists, personalizing them with his own poetical language. The result is a unique experience for the viewer who gets caught in the limbo between paint and poem.

Tom LOWE (Born 1982)
Lowe was born in Newcastle, UK in 1982, and received his Bachelors in drawing from UAL, Camberwell College in 2006. His solo exhibitions include, Making it in America, London (2014), and They Think Its All Over, NY (2011). Lowe has exhibited works in Brussels, New York, LA, and London. Tom Lowe is an artist who works mostly in paints and pencils, and whose work subverts what it means to see and experience as both artist and human. Lowe is interested in consumerism and commodity culture in the digital age, and analyses how we consume images and how they circulate, creating new forms of curation. In this newest series of works, similar to Pop art pioneers Sigmar Polke and Jasper Johns, Lowe studies the everyday; from palm trees, art, folded jeans, humans, and the experience of flying, the inclusivity of his subjects and his choice to repeat and recreate his own paintings is a decided move to be matter-of-fact. The goal is to make the least creative works possible, a step further from a still-life, these paintings are like snapshots of mundanity, each work being unique. The result is a take on what it means to be an artist, what representation itself is, what the value of an artwork is, and what role the viewer plays in all of the above. This notion also dialogues with artists such as Andy Warhol, Richard Prince, Wayne Thiebaud, or Roy Lichtenstein, who inspired themselves with the common objects of society’s everyday life. What is striking about Lowe’s drawings, which can lack in the artistic language of other mentioned artists, is the academic quality to his drawing technique. In an acute understanding of shadow and colors, Lowe gives a strong rendering of not only the object or subject exposed to the viewer, but also the impression it naturally gives a spectator. Unlike a simple representation, Lowe manages to create an emotion, and give each work a sentiment, that the viewer can experience in its own way. The heat and relaxation of a palm tree, the heart pinch and amazement of a flight, the sadness in a tear, the excitement of unbuttoned jeans and the precision and mystical element of an artwork, are all born from the end of Lowe’s pencil.
