is drawing to a close, and if I reflect on my Editorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Notes from one year ago, it is crazy to think about how much everything has changed. However, let me stop right there. We have all heard this story about how horrid 2020 has been, so I am going to focus on something a bit more uplifting. What I have noticed throughout all of these challenges is there are so many things to be thankful for. Things that cannot be taken away or minimized with everything going on or coming at us. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s these things that have become ever more precious because they get us through dark times. I am thankful for the home I have been blessed to build and has been my sanctuary this past year with my roommate and best friend, Tyler Ethaniel. For those of you on Facebook, I appreciate you humoring me as I continue to post photos of my holiday decorations. I am so thankful we came together in the U.S. to share our voices and elect someone who has a chance to heal this nation, giving us a leader we deserve and will represent all people - regardless of background or color - positively. And most importantly, I am thankful for the friends I have made here in this virtual world. Amidst seclusion and quarantine, these people have been a rock that show how powerful people interactions can be even when not in person. I am so fortunate to have Second LifeTM as an outlet to still socialize and experience bonds with others, and want to thank each of you who have made this experience so unforgettable these last twelve years.

This issue allows me an opportunity to celebrate my most favorite time of year. From vibrant colors to amazing feasts, this holiday season further celebrates coming together with family and friends to share our gratitude. This has been impacted for all of us this year, but what we can still treasure is our holidays in our virtual world. Today I was invited to take a group photo with Justine Lemton and Geena Carminucci. It was so nice not to have to worry about social distancing with 16 people there and just focus on laughing. Despite it all our spirits remained high, and just goes to show how fortunate we are to have this space to come together. I hope this issue of Gallant Magazine brings a smile to your face. It is truly a visual masterpiece, featuring a tried and true home and garden designer, Amelie Knelstrom, and her storeVespertine, which offers many staple items for Fall and the holiday season. Worried about staying warm as the air gets crisp and cool? Stephen, owner and creator of Mossu, delivers in Menâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Fashion that will keep you cozy and stylish for this time of year. s the year comes to an end not much has happened and yet everything has happened. There are high highs and low lows for both my personal life and the world around me. From the dread of what Covid-19 created to the hopefulness of seeing the current President of the United States lose his spot, it has been a rollercoaster. Instead of talking about the wild moments of the year, I want to keep my year-end thoughts light and upbeat. Those who know me personally know that I love music and pop culture, it’s one of my largest obsessions. With that said, I decided I wanted to share three of my favorite songs representing Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Future. Before I spout off my list of “bops”, I would like to give a huge shout out to every single photographer, writer, and part of the Gallant team who has contributed the past year. Each issue has felt stronger than ever, I’m incredibly proud to be part of such a talented team of people who deliver high quality content each issue! Now without further ado, my past, present, and future playlist: If anyone thought I wasn’t going to choose the Elusive Queenteuse of Christmas, Mariah Carey, to represent Christmases Past you were horribly mistaken. Though sometimes I wish I hated it (blame the Aquarius rebel in me), ‘All I Want for Christmas’ represents the Christmas season for me and countless others. It’s not called a timeless classic for no reason.

Representing Christmas Present is a brand new 2020 release, Tinashe’s ‘Comfort & Joy’ EP. There’s something for everyone - from a twerk-ready rendition of ‘Angels We Have Heard on High’ (yes, I said twerk-ready) to an old timey, detuned piano rendition of ‘The Christmas Song’. I will have this on repeat this year and years to come. You should too! Now for my Christmas Future selection, I chose something a bit unconventional. No, it’s not a Christmas song. It’s ‘Happiness’ by Little Mix. A song about, quite literally, finding happiness and love within yourself. Something I think we all strive to find going into each New Year. I know I do. Vespertine

hen teleporting into Vespertine- Land of Quirky, a Second Life™ staple for Home and Garden aficionados, there is a sense of a rustic, vintage feel to the exterior. The outdoor autumn leaves are saturated with bright orange and yellow hues that herald the arrival of Fall. Pumpkins line the ornate stone bridges over the waterfront from the landing point and a quaint vintage truck that appears to be abandoned houses adorable woodland creatures. An aggressively hungry piglet can be seen eating a pristine cake inside this truck. Once you enter Vespertine - Land of Quirky, you will notice exposed vents and brick streaming along the ceiling and walls. Repurposed woods seems to be an accent along with natural coloring that really allows the amazing items showcased throughout the store to pop. As you make your way through, several of the rooms are designated into groups. Be it gachas, home decor, seasonal items, or outdoor/garden items, this establishment is perfectly crafted for those who seek some of the best in home and garden design. If there were a handful of words that explain the aesthetic of Vespertine – Land of Quirky, it would be quirky, whimsical, nostalgic, natural and rustic. While exploring this quaint store, witnessing first hand the amazing artistic abilities of Amelie Knelstrom, the owner and creator of Vespertine – Land of Quirky, one gets a sense that this is a style she thoroughly enjoys creating for her customers. Amelie opened Vespertine in 2011 after a handful of years exploring and creating in Second Life™. To her, Vespertine has a dual meaning. The first comes from one of her favorite albums, entitled Vespertine, from Icelandic artist Bjork, whom Amelie claims is her “spirit animal”. The other meaning stems from a more symbolic approach to the word. Vespertine in terms of biology describes something that is born at night.

From the initial spark that ignited the idea to start a store in Second Life™ to actually running one, Amelie shared where she gained her inspiration: “There are so many inspirations I have. Mostly, I create items I would personally enjoy to own or they are aesthetically pleasing to me.” Amelie went on to say sometimes she simply window shops around town and gets inspired by an item or feeling she encounters while out. Another inspiration is the plethora of books she will thumb through, including lifestyle publications. Other impactful places she might stumble across would be from movies or even her own dreams - dreams that store memories from the past and present that we might not consciously remember. Needless to say, Amelie is not short on places to find inspiration from to create for Vespertine – Land of Quirky. When it comes to humble beginnings, Amelie and a friend of hers found Second Life™ to be this enigma of sorts. Curiosity got the best of them and they wanted to explore this virtual space. Thankfully Amelie found it impressive enough to stick around and become a content creator. In her earlier days, Amelie explored various places which served as influences for her own store. The year was 2009, and it was not just stores where she found inspiration. Amelie also discovered different types of venues and art exhibitions that would inspire her to stay in this virtual world. Before Amelie started Vespertine - Land of Quirky, photography was a huge source of creative expression for her. Being able to craft elegant stories through her photographs was something she thoroughly enjoyed for many years. Since decorating was something she did for pictures, it only made sense that this was the mechanism and passion that served as the turning point for Amelie to start creating prefabricated pieces for Second Life™. When she was first opening her store, she was just finishing her Art High School programs. Amelie feels that working with graphic programs gave her the help she needed to create the artistic expression she had in mind for the store itself. So, with all of this newly acquired knowledge in hand, Amelie was ready to take that first step and officially solidify Vespertine - Land of Quirky by officially releasing a product. Her first item she made was a skybox. Amelie will go through a routine that includes many different avenues when crafting her products. This is her favorite part of the whole process of owning a store - working out how something in the real world works and how to translate that into pixels. For example, maybe Amelie wants to create some kind of plant or food item. She will take her time investigating how that real world items “works”. By works, she means how the textures differ from one another, the physical form of the item, how it compares size-wise to other products in the real world, etc. Dissecting and examining items in the real world have

a profound result in Second Life™. It seems to help Amelie construct with accuracy how she wants to showcase or present her items to her customers. Amelie aims to make her customers happy with her creations. She is so grateful for all the support from her wonderful customers. Having a connection with her people is key for Amelie, and she hopes that she can continue to connect to a greater degree with more interaction. If you would like to communicate with her currently, Flickr™ or the in-world Vespertine group are the two places you can catch her. Amelie shared she would like to provide other outlets of communication, such as social media, so be on the lookout for Vesperine to pop up on other social media outlets soon. Flickr™ is a place that Amelie holds dear to her as another place to express herself. If you scroll through her feed, you can see all her beautiful products she’s made over the years. You can also find the collages of photos telling intricate stories through her skills. Visuals seem to be quite important to Amelie, both in Second Life™ and through her social media. If you have supported her in any way - through in-world purchases, liking or commenting on her photos or just sent her kind messages - she wants to thank you! Having people from all around the world send love and admiration is such a wonderful feeling and she hopes you all feel the same from her. Vespertine is definitely a perfect place to find items for Fall and the holidays. Amelie is such a joy and we truly appreciate her bringing her talent and creations to this virtual world. here are so many things that make Second Life™ special, not the least of which is the ability for people to come online and make their own content using nothing more than their own skills and imagination. One such creator is Stephen from Mossu. Ever since creating custom content for The Sims™, he has known of Second Life™. He took a chance and joined the virtual community, wanting to challenge himself and make more sophisticated products than he had previously before joining Second Life™. With that mindset in place, Stephen’s first couple of years in Second Life™ were shaped differently than those who found this virtual space by other means. His early life was more concentrated on learning what Second Life™ is and how to create inside of it. Stephen even confesses that he had so many laughs trying to figure this place out. However, Mossu was not his first brand in Second Life™. His first attempt at a brand was solely on his own, though that only lasted a few months. At that point he and his new business partner at the time decided to open another brand together:Fawny.

Stephen’s third try at a brand was Mossu, which opened in 2017. He wanted to try and combine all the experience and lessons he had learned over the last couple of years and create a clear vision of what he wanted. From a name perspective, Mossu is not this mysterious word that means something in a different language. It is just two random syllables that make up Mossu. For Stephen, he draws this idea of what Mossu is through various sources. From searching online to see how people draw inspirations and style their clothing in everyday life, to art that people create, even something as untenable as music - all creative avenues that streamline into the inspiration Stephen finds most appealing. A lot of his inspiration also comes from just witnessing how everyday people dress for certain occasions over time. Real life sources are not the only places Stephen drew from to help him create for Mossu. It started with him getting into the video game industry, because it was a place that makes him feel the happiest. He studied 3D Art for Video Games in a specialized offline school for a while. After about a year of studying, he decided to tandemly pursued Game Design as well as study 3D Design. When everything was said and done, Stephen was able to graduate as a Game Designer, a feat he truly treasures each and every day. Stephen’s story is another great example in which real life applications help creators when they decide to start something in Second Life™. True passion, in whatever form it takes, can always help us when we put our minds to something and strive for what makes us happy. For Stephen that is game design, and what better way to pair his passion for game design than with his taste for fashion and creating. This passion extended far beyond the confines of Second Life™ as evidenced when Stephen talked about his experience creating custom content for The Sims™. When Stephen was 13 years old, he was just starting to create custom content for The Sims™. If his memory serves him right, it was this simple basic photo frame that other users could upload into the files to use in The Sims™. Even getting that far was tough for Stephen when many of the tutorials he tried to learn from were in English. And being a nonnative English speaker at that time, it was difficult to understand the instructions. Nevertheless, it was just one hurdle he overcame while taking this long journey to where he is now. Along the way though, Stephen has made several friends that started out in The Sims™ community and made their way to Second Life™ as well. Stephen has an incredible grasp on what it takes to create high quality products that he releases through Mossu. His typical day is comprised of working on several projects throughout the day. He admits to working daily, which he does admit is not something that one should do seven days a week. But that just shows the drive he has for Mossu.

When it comes to starting new products or a project, Stephen really enjoys having true interaction with is customers. Stephen will conduct surveys on what people might be looking for from Mossu. Or maybe ways to improve the brand. He is always striving to improve himself and his work. Starting at 13-years old and working through translated text files from English tutorials to create for The Sims™ to studying in higher education institutes to learning Game Design and 3D artist, Stephen is committed and passionate about his craft.. Being that Mossu is now a huge brand now in Second Life™, Stephen began talking about how Mossu was just a hobby to start with - a hobby that he was able to make an income through. As the years passed by, he started to look at Mossu in a different light. Stephen began to realize that he could not possibly handle every aspect of what Mossu is now alone. His brand was growing and he needed all hands on deck. So, he found a group of incredible friends to help mold Mossu into what it is today. With this new group of faithful friends to help Stephen build Mossu into an even larger behemoth of a brand in Second Life™, he wants to see the store continue growing in a positive direction. He wants to keep the same style, the same vibe, and the same small features customers come to enjoy, but on a larger scale that will allow for even better quality and more options for customers to look through and express themselves. Whether you are a longtime customer of Stephen from The Sim™ or a recent discoverer of Mossu, he wants to thank you all for the unbelievable support over the years. You have changed his life and the life of his family forever. It has given him the opportunity to explore more of what he loves each and every day. Stephen wants to extend a hand of gratitude to each of you and thank you for giving life to Mossu!
