e’re edging ever closer to the chaos of Christmas and the inevitable stresses and strains that come with it. But fear not my donkey friends, there is still lots of fun to be had and plenty of reasons not to throw ourselves into the harbour just yet! Let’s find that happy place and give our minds and bodies the tranquillity it deserves. Where do we find peace and how far will we go to achieve that feeling of contentment? The need to remove ourselves from the standard routine affects all of us at some point. Whether it’s achieved by disconnecting ourselves from the daily grind by slapping on a film, a favourite album or jumping on a plane, we all know that it’s good to escape sometimes. The beauty of living in Guernsey is that the opportunity to escape is all around us. There are cliff walks and sunsets to be cherished at numerous spots all over our perfect little rock. There are vessels and friends that can take us to special vantage points to look back at our homes and there is always the option to leave the house and enjoy the safety and security that our community provides, for that little bit of escapism. This month we take a look at all things ESCAPE and have sent our roving reporters on the hunt for exciting local stories that tick the box. We take a look at Guernsey’s best and most precious spots and there’s an exclusive feature on Guernsey ex-pats and why they came home. We have an athlete who is about to embark on a professional career overseas and a motoring review of the new Mercedes G-Class (the perfect escape vehicle). So wherever you are, simply look to our events news, community highlights and featured content to provide you with that healthy dose of escapism. You’ve earned it. Asante sana RON

Escaping the norm
A
certain disdainful attitude is projected onto those who escape. We’re not keen on those who escape prison, or parents who escape responsibility. Then there are people who escape paying their taxes and even people who manage to escape working the regular nine to five.

We know that life can be a hard slog; anyone who manages to avoid facing our sort of daily struggles is accused of “gallivanting”. There are certain people who can’t even accept the very real need for escape, those who think political asylum seekers should just “go home”. The idea of escape only exists because we’ve constructed homes, rules and iron bars. Living on an island it’s often easy to feel the need to escape. We’re literally isolated, and although we might have everything we could ask for, Odeon and

skate rink aside, there still remains an urge to see more. I recently spoke to three locals who formulated an escape plan, to remove themselves from the run of the mill.
Pete Johansen moved to Guernsey
aged five but already knew at 18yrs old that he had to make his escape; starting off with a trip to Thailand, he soon made his way working around northern Norway, then onto Canada and then Mexico. He just recently made his first lengthy stay on the island in twelve years, working as a head chef.

We naturally find the urge to escape to switch up our surroundings because the same faces and places can become stagnant sights after time, no matter how much love we have for them. The need to escape seems a much more common complaint amongst islanders, but of course ironically, a Londoner’s ideal escape is often a deserted island. Is there something other than the grass being greener that makes us so prone to adventure? Pete told me: “I think it’s a combination of things; the need to move around is probably part character, partly the surroundings you grow up in. My Dad is originally from Norway so maybe it’s in the blood too. Our generation obviously has an advantage though, it’s so easy - so why not see the world?” “I came back for around three months to go to some weddings and nothing has really changed. Some of the architecture is a bit glassy now. There’s financial stability here and that means people know what they want.”
Paul Mason Barney is a graphic
designer who’s just recently made the bold move to London to pursue his career after living mostly in Guernsey since the age of three. For him, there’s a specific problem in staying because of a lack of creative outlook and opportunity for young professionals. Paul said: “If you fit into this way of life there’s nowhere better, but lots of people feel they don’t fit the mould.”
“If you fit into this way of life there’s nowhere better, but lots of people feel they don’t fit the mould.”
“...you’re all the Dandelion Project so just keep doing what you’re doing.” I asked him specifically about the issue of university funding: “Channel Islands students are lucrative propositions for the universities who make a lot of money out of us. The States absolutely should be making the most of this advantage we have and make sure that as many young people can be trained up to the right standard in the UK, something that’s obviously not possible without a university on the island.” Both Pete and Paul agreed that the island is a very privileged one, which offers a very comfortable existence, but some people can’t stick to complacency. Creativity thrives in chaos, as goes the famous line in The Third Man - “In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.” Although Paul admits, “maybe we’re just better as exporters, people always forget about Isaac Brock - and tomatoes.” I asked, what about the argument that all of us brilliant and gorgeous creative types should stay put, for the good of the island? We should get involved in initiatives like The Dandelion Project instead of running away to London shouldn’t we? Andre De Carteret, brains behind so many good local causes is more relaxed about it all, simply stating, “you’re all the Dandelion Project so just keep doing what you’re doing.” So we have to find ourselves leaving our hometown perhaps a little earlier than others to get trained up and educate ourselves in the ways of Carnage pubcrawls and kitchen shelf labelling at the great university experience. But there’s definitely something intangible and much more spiritual at play for a lot of people who make the decision to leave their roots behind, perhaps for good.
Becky Mauger is a couple of years into her new life in Australia now, where she moved along with her sister following the end of university. She has come a long way from being the Guernsey girl who didn’t know her way home from Cobo: “Guernsey was an amazing place to grow up and I’ll definitely be back, but you have to broaden your horizons and make sure you do it before you have to get a real grown-up job.” “The thing I miss the most is my dog Max, he doesn’t understand that I haven’t just abandoned him and I can’t Skype him like I can with my mum.” There are some things about home that no amount of spiritual awakening can make up for. An example of this is the home comforts we didn’t even realise we missed. As Becky so gracefully explains: “What came as a shock was the lack of variety in crisps. No frazzles/Wotsits/Monster Munch. Just basic Walkers and Pringles…” Back in Guernsey, where the crisp selection is ‘on point’, there are so many people doing proactive things for the good of the island in order to make it more conducive to creativity and varying industry. They also stay to provide us with indispensable services whilst enjoying the pace of life Guernsey has to offer. But perhaps the inescapable fact is that some people will always feel the need to escape. Which one are you?
“Guernsey was an amazing place to grow up and I’ll definitely be back, but you have to broaden your horizons and make sure you do it before you have to get a real grownup job.”
We’ve been identifying with different pilgrimages for thousands of years, the journeys to Lourdes and Mecca and the Walkabouts of the Aborigines. Today, we might not have that religious or cultural motivation but many of us escape to farflung corners in search of some sort of enlightenment.

Words | Louise Le Pelley
The Indian summer is well and truly over. We’ve seen the last of the season’s cruise ships and there are probably a few readers who are already planning their next escape from the rock, be it a Christmas shopping trip bathed in the bright lights of London or Paris, a ski break or perhaps a jaunt to Florida or the Med in search of warmer climes and adventure. The leaves are falling, the Tennerfest has produced its last few plates of goodness and Guernsey’s salty sea air has become decidedly crisper. As the nights lengthen and
THE NORTH A walk on the northern coast of the island offers the tourist a veritable journey through time. From cosy fishing ports and harbours such as Bordeaux and Beaucette Marina to the Bunkers, Napoleonic coastal towers, medieval fortifications and ancient Neolithic and megalithic burial chambers that can be found nestling practically side by side on L’Ancresse Common. At times it is easy to take for granted the scope of history that we have at our fingertips. The BBC could probably use this part of the island’s backdrop to film an entire series of Doctor Who. The common itself is a great place to watch wild rabbits frolic, whilst the rock pools of Pembroke hide a surprising myriad of shrimp, gobies and sticklebacks. At the top of the hill overlooking the southern tip of Bordeaux Harbour, stands the once majestic yet still imposing ruins of Vale Castle. The castle walls were allegedly built around the 14th century, and further rebuilt and modified throughout the 15th – 18th centuries. The site of the castle originally had Iron Age fortifications. Full of secret passageways and pockmarked by the remnants of fortifications from World War Two, the Castle now oversees troops of Guernsey youths and revellers who descend on the castle once a year to eat vegan curries and listen to music at the beloved Vale Earth Fair festival. At any other time of the year, the castle itself is surprisingly peaceful, offering great vistas overlooking the area surrounding Bordeaux harbour (the ancient kingdom of the feral chickens) and Herm.

THE EAST Even in our fair St Peter Port, it’s possible to escape from the hustle and bustle. An iconic part of the Guernsey skyline; Victoria Tower was built in 1848 to commemorate the first visit of a reigning monarch to the island in 1846. It stands 100 feet high and is located just around the corner from Candie Gardens. Constructed out of red granite from Le Guet, it was built as a symbol of the island’s loyalty to the crown and offers panoramic views of Guernsey from the top of its spiral staircase. If heights are your thing, you can tear the kids (…or yourself) away from video game nintendo quests and take them on a real mission - you can unlock Victoria Tower yourself by retrieving the key from Candie Museum during opening hours. Last but certainly not least, the jewel in the crown of Guernsey’s heritage sights is a building that many of us simply forget to appreciate, busy as we are going about our daily lives. It’s the sight that has greeted all marine passengers to the island for over 800 years and continues to light up St Peter Port to this day – Castle Cornet. Next time you’re in need of a break from the office, grab a coffee and sit on the slipway at Havelet or stroll out towards the Castle. Against the vista, reminiscent of the ramparts of St Malo, you can wrap up warm with a scarf, (using the breakwater as your personal catwalk) and look out to sea and watch the world go by, rediscover the childhood pleasures of remote control boats at the model yacht pond or chat to the fishermen by the lighthouse about their catch of the day. It’s quintessential and glorious Guernsey at its very best.

the sea mist begins to swirl down the lanes in the evenings, Halloween pumpkins and Christmas themed decorations have begun to clutter up the aisles in the supermarket (and probably even the hedge veg stand around the corner). At times, the desire to escape St Peter Port may appear to be overwhelming, however it might not be necessary to run for the hills and book a flight out of town to escape the claustrophobia of granite sea walls. If you use a touch of your imagination, you can find that
even in Guernsey, there are several opportunities to experience a moment of beauty and escape right on our doorstep, thanks to our stunning seascapes and rich cultural heritage. Whether you’re a first time student back from University for the weekend, a business professional wanting to get away from the daily grind or a family wanting an unusual day out, there are several locations on the island, even in Autumn and Winter, where you can get away from it all and fall in love with Sarnia Cherie all over again.
THE SOUTH
THE WEST
In Victor Hugo’s book ‘The Toilers of the Sea’, which was written during his self-imposed exile on the island, his dedication on the opening page declared Guernsey to be “the rock of hospitality and freedom.” The novel, which is essentially a love letter to the island and its seafaring folk, takes place in various locations around Guernsey, with a large part of the action unfolding off the coast of Pleinmont, amongst the perilous waves, cliffs and reefs that lie beyond the Hanois lighthouse and les Douvres. If you follow in Victor Hugo’s footsteps, at Pleinmont you’ll find a wild and savage landscape, resplendent with flora and fauna that change by season and stunning cliff walks. After taking a closer look at nearby World War 2 observation towers and battery dolman gun-sites, you can gaze out at the ocean towards the Hanois lighthouse, and from the safety of the coast, daydream of smugglers, shipwrecks and of course, the epic battle of Victor Hugo’s protagonist, Gilliat, with a giant octopus, as you feast upon the spectacular visuals of the ferocious and frothy white crests of the waves.
Check your almanac (alternatively you could just Google the timings of the tides, but that sounds decidedly less adventurous), pack a rucksack and embark on a trek across the causeway to Lihou, Guernsey’s only tidal island. Linked to L’Eree bay at low tide (for around two weeks every month) by grace of the aforementioned causeway, Lihou’s name contains the Norman suffix of –hou (similarly to its cousins, Brecqhou, Jethou and Burhou), the suffix ‘-hou’ meaning islet or mound. The island plays host to the archaeological ruins of St Mary’s Priory and Historians believe that this religious site was built in the twelfth century by Benedictine monks, who came to Guernsey on a pilgrimage from the Mont St Michel (now a UNESCO world heritage site) in Normandy. Where there’s a Guernsey site steeped in history, you can be sure that there will be another great folklore legend from the archives of the wild wild west that is guaranteed to send a shiver down your spine. The stories say that pagans and witches used to gather at the nearby Le Catioroc at Le Sabbat des Sorciers every Friday at midnight to shout “Qui hou hou, Marie Lihou” at the Priory.
Close to Pleinmont, at Pezeries Point, you’ll find The Fairy Ring or La table des pions, a structure widely regarded as Guernsey’s answer to the crop circle. This circular ditch dug into the common may seem mystical, however, it was not the handiwork of extra-terrestrials or fairy folk and in fact originates from the Guernsey tradition of the Chevauchée, a parade of officials, which used to take place every two years. During the parade, the officials would take in sights around the island whilst parading along the Chemin du Roi (the Path of the King) from the Vale to Pezeries Point, making sure that the path was not obstructed for the visits of future dignitaries and lance bearing soldiers. Rather than performing sacrifices or making offerings to fairyfolk, the only ritual the officials would imbibe in would in actual fact be to stop at the fairy ring to sit down in the ditch and use the plateau as a picnic table. Folklore and superstition still lies at the heart of many a Guernsey man’s anecdotes though, and legend has it, if you walk around the ring three times and make a wish, your wish is sure to come true. Visit the fairy ring at sunset - you could almost be in Narnia.
BECAUSE QUALITY MATTERS
If you’re really craving a night of peace and tranquillity, you can inquire about renting out Lihou house for an evening. If you’re really brave, you might even want to try a Friday night to see if you can hear any mysterious voices being carried over by the wind. When crossing over, the timings of the tides have to be taken note of – ‘getting away from it all’ doesn’t necessarily mean that you want to get marooned or swept away – there is information regarding the tides posted at each end of the causeway. The island also serves as a breeding ground for birds and is rich in biodiversity. Remember to bring your rubbish back with you in order to safeguard the island haven!
[Victor Hugo was not the only famous artist to find peace and refuge in Guernsey, the famous French Impressionist painter Auguste Renoir also visited in the late summer of 1883, finding beauty in the southern cliffs and creating several panoramic paintings of Moulin Huet during his time on the island.]

KING OF ESCAPING THE RANDOMNESS OF
MISC
We couldn’t do an escape issue without mentioning the man who is known for escaping. Here are a few facts you may not have know about Harry Houdini:
1 2
His name wasn’t really Harry Houdini - he was actually called Ehrich Weisz. We agree, it’s not as catchy. His first performance was when he was aged 9. The act consisted of Houdini picking up pins with his eyelashes whilst hanging upside down.
3
His fascination with aviation propelled him (we laughed too) to learn to fly his own plane. From this he became the third person to fly over Australia in 1910.
4
In 1918, Houdini made an elephant, named Jenny, disappear in front of a live audience.
5
He was fascinated with death and even went on to purchase the first electric chair. He even performed to inmates on death row.
6
Houdini requested that an enormous bathtub was fitted at his house so that he could practice holding his breath underwater.
STEALTH MODE SQUIRREL
After a typhoon ruined the squirrel enclosure at the Inokashira Park Zoo in Tokyo, the staff there were left devastated (yes, that was sarcasm) after 30 of its finest squirrels escaped. A rescue mission was put into place and 38 squirrels were captured and taken back to the Zoo. We’re not sure what’s worse, the fact people go to a Zoo to see squirrels or that the rescue mission added an extra 8 squirrels to the collection. Surely you’d just stop once you’ve got what you need, right?
FRENCH FANCY
Is France really the most visited country in the world? Simple answer is yes.. we can’t work out why either. Maybe it’s the array of baguettes or the fantastic display of mustaches on offer as you walk through the streets of St. Malo. Either way, France has secured itself the title of ‘The World’s most visited Country’ for the second year running. Well done France, you’re doing something right.
SHAWSHANK HUSBAND Sitting down to watch a film and feeling completely inspired by it once it’s finished is a very common occurrence. However, Irishman Patsy Kerr took this to a whole new level.
After watching the film one night in 1994, he thought of the perfect way to avoid his wife’s snoring. He found himself the perfect digging utensil, a spoon, and set about digging a tunnel from under his bed to the pub 800 feet across the road. 15 years later he popped his head out of the ground in the ladies toilets of the pub. After years of not being caught by his sleeping wife, Patsy was finally caught when he burst a sewage pipe and caused his tunnel to flood with the streets waste. Not such a sweet escape then.
BECAUSE QUALITY MATTERS
HE’S BEHIND YOU!
Ever had a run in with the law? Don’t worry, we won’t judge you! This Police officer has had a slight ‘run’ in as well (excuse the pun). A CCTV operator saw what he thought was a suspicious looking man wandering around Sussex. The operator called on a nearby plainclothes officer to track down the man and see what he was up to. The officer was hot on the heels of this mystery man for 20 minutes, but couldn’t figure out where he kept disappearing to. Eventually the Police Officer figured out the he was in fact the suspicious man that the CCTV operator had reported and had been chasing himself the whole time!

Saving £1 a day from the age of 13 will leave a 30 year-old with more than £6,000 of savings, without taking into account any interest earned, whilst even £5 each month until the age of 18 may well be enough to fund driving lessons or the first deposit on a rented home.
From small acorns…
Words : Racheal Coleman, Senior Bank Manager, NatWest Guernsey
Unfortunately, money doesn’t grow on trees, but it does appear as if by magic from the enchanted hole in the wall…or so a child might think as they watch their parent withdraw money from a cash machine. Children learn quickly by imitation, detecting patterns in their experiences, which help construct their view of the world. Just as we ensure that children are equipped with the vital life skills they need to journey through adolescence to adulthood, making sure to emphasise our ‘pleases’ and ‘thank yous’ to help formulate good behaviour, why don’t we encourage a little financial knowhow too? Talk of stocks, shares, bonds and interest all might seem far beyond the grasp of a child but even a two year-old can be taught how to save! Research shows that children develop financial and economic understanding through personal economic experiences , which means that even the simple act of placing notes and coins into a piggybank helps them to learn the differences between

the denominations, whilst also familiarising them with the concept of saving. Once parents help children grasp the basics of saving, an account can be set up with as little as just £1. With an account in place, the foundation is laid for a future of sensible spending. Saving £1 a day from the age of 13 will leave a 30 year-old with more than £6,000 of savings, without taking into account any interest earned, whilst even £5 each month until the age of 18 may well be enough to fund driving lessons or the first deposit on a rented home . Recognising the importance of helping children learn the value of money and how to manage and save their cash, NatWest has introduced the First Saver account to encourage children to save in a fun way. The First Saver sees the introduction of “Pigby & Friends” a set of cartoon pigs offering savings tips and tricks to young savers. These tips are further instilled within the complimentary Pigby Fair app and Pigbybank.
believing that there is no rush to manage their money with words like ‘mortgage’ and ‘pension’ seeming to belong to a far-off era. It’s important to remember, though, that the longer these things are left, the more difficult they will become. NatWest acknowledges this and plays its part by providing a free online-based interactive financial education programme called PocketMoney. The programme provides all teachers and parents with fun resources such as games and activity sheets to help instil money skills in young people. Establishing good financial habits at an early age will help prepare them for later years and hopefully avoid some of the debt issues and financial mistakes made by previous generations.
Whilst it’s never too early to form these habits, it’s never too late either. It’s easy for young people to fall into the trap of

Unchosen is an anti-trafficking charity which uses film campaigns to raise public awareness and combat all forms of human trafficking, forced labour, sexual exploitation and domestic servitude in the UK and Ireland. It had recently run a film competition which saw three of the shortlisted films being shown at the seminar, each of which highlights what slavery looks like in the UK in the 21st century
and are based on true case studies provided by leading anti-trafficking NGOs in the UK. The screenings were followed by a question and answer session led by Meghan Field, project manager for European Communities Against Trafficking, and Chris Answell, who served as a police officer for more than 36 years and has been dealing with the exploitation of women since 1992.
The Guernsey Specials Gym Club celebrated 20 years of the club by hosting an anniversary dinner and ball on 18th October at St Pierre Park. NNEDY WORDS BY ADAM KE
CAUGHT IN E R I F S S O R C THE NIGERIA A NARROW ESCAPE IN
If the average Junk Mail folder is to be believed, Nigeria is full of thousands of wealthy princes, estate administrators and would-be benefactors just itching to give you money in return for your full bank details. Whilst this sad stereotype hints at the corruption that has become so synonymous of Nigeria, in my time there I felt the most welcome I had done in any of the African countries I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Despite feeling safe and relaxed, it was here that I had one of the closest escapes of all of my travels…
The party I’d been travelling with jokingly regarded Nigeria as “the place trucks go to die.” The numerous chassis and engines strewn along the roadside being reminiscent of the fetid camel and donkey carcasses we’d seen left to rot along highways throughout northern Africa. Whilst in Morocco and Mauritania, carrioneaters nourished themselves by stripping
32
flesh from the bone. Here, many locals would find ingenious ways to remove and make use of just about everything they could from an abandoned, crashed or up-turned truck; a true testament to their resourcefulness. If any of you have seen the Nicholas Cage movie “Lord Of War” there is a time-lapse shot of the airplane dismantlement that provides a fitting example. We drove from the Benin border through Lagos and on to Abuja where we remained for almost a week whilst sorting out some visas for Angola and the Congo. It was in Abuja that I also took a Japanese co-passenger to the hospital after he had contracted an intestinal parasite. Translating in front of a packed and captivated waiting room wasn’t easy, but if “stool sample” ever comes up in a game of charades, I’m your man…

The night before we were to leave Abuja, our driver advised us that we would be transiting through Jos the next day and that we should exercise extreme caution. Over the last twenty years, Jos has been home to simmering Christian and Muslim tensions, which have boiled over into violent conflicts more recently. This account took place in May 2010; just a couple of months after several clashes had resulted in nearly 1,000 deaths. We’d been advised to avoid Jos on Sunday (i.e. a day of worship) but despite arriving mid-afternoon on a Monday, following the solemn briefing we’d been given, we were all still on tenterhooks. Some of my copassengers claimed to sense the tension in the air but I thought it was more to do with the sweltering heat hinting at an impending thunderstorm. Against better judgment, the large tarpaulin sides of the truck had been rolled up on both flanks to let a breeze pass through. Unfortunately, as we rounded a block in the centre of town, we got a little more than a breeze… We’d been gingerly looking out from the open truck sides when we caught a glimpse of about fifty kids stampeding across the road followed by a small but surly group of older men brandishing poles and farming tools. I winced as a passing motorcyclist was

brought off his bike with a heavy blow from a shovel. He stumbled off dazed, no doubt ruing not investing in a helmet. As our driver tried to pick up some speed and get us out of there, a hail of fist-size rocks came down on the truck from both sides. If we had had real windows, they’d have been smashed to pieces and all of us showered in shards of glass. As it was, most of the missiles came in through one open side and went out the other. At this point, I yelled for everybody to “hit the deck!” and we stayed there until safely out of town. Whether we were the specific target of an attack or just in the wrong place at the wrong time, when we heard gunshots we figured it was time to push forward. The angry mobs were closing in from both sides and we

Thankfully the cavalry arrived in the guise of armoured vehicles and soldiers brandishing AK47s, who were sent to escort us to safety. Somewhat shook up, we sped out of town and made for Yankari National Park where, watched suspiciously by baboons, we gathered our nerves on the banks of the Wikki Warm Springs and reflected on our narrow escape. That day, God was clearly on our side…I’m just not sure which God.

In cult 60s TV drama The Prisoner, a man is kidnapped and held captive by forces unknown in a deeply weird, yet apparently peaceful, community by the seaside. “The Village” is ruled by a puppet council who never seem to do anything, and any attempt at dissent is thwarted by mysterious entities who hold absolute power over the inhabitants. Sound like anywhere you know? If you’re too young to remember it, imagine a budget BBC version of “Lost,” or perhaps The League Of Gentlemen crossed with Mary Poppins (on drugs). I may be paranoid, but I’d say the pervasive oddness of the show captures something very distinctive about living in a small community - life can be predictable and relaxing, but is just as capable of being strange and oppressive. Yes, you can spend our lives telling yourself that St Helier is like any suburban high street, and that you’re always a short flight away from the mainland, but there can be something uniquely creepy about Island life, mark my words. Take a wrong turn in a foggy country lane and you could find yourself living out a scene from Deliverance.
sort of escape from the Island and the people you see every day. For some of us that involves visiting other parts of the world, for others it might be achieved by interacting with new people without ever leaving your living room. However you manage to do it, you’re investing in your long-term sanity, so you should never let anyone tell you that you’re wasting your time. Book that holiday, buy that new webcam, dress up as a milkmaid on Tuesdays - do whatever it takes to feel there’s a part of you that lives in another world. You’re not a number, you’re a free (wo)man.
YES, THERE ARE WORSE PLACES TO BE TRAPPED
I appreciate that not everybody in Jersey sees a man in dirty wellies and immediately thinks the worst. I should look on the bright side; at least I don’t live in Sark. Nonetheless, live here long enough and the feeling of being trapped will inevitably creep into your subconscious no matter how much you refuse to acknowledge it. There’s a powerful psychological barrier that comes from being surrounded by water on all sides, even if the place you live in is clean, beautiful and has tried to herd all its creepy toothless men into eight parishes you wouldn’t want to live in anyway. This subconscious fear of being trapped forever explains why even those Jersey people who haven’t grown up dreaming of rowing to France under cover of darkness still obsess over their holidays, or in fact anything that comes to symbolise the slightest departure from their everyday lives. The secret to successful Island living lies in subtly creating a part of your identity that involves some

ESCAPE MAP THE WORLD BEYOND OUR PHYSICAL BORDERS
It sounds obvious to say that travelling to new places is a way to escape the Island, until you consider how many people manage to travel without their mental frame of reference even leaving the Parish they live in. Anybody who has spent a week abroad silently ignoring their partner will tell you that an unsuccessful holiday is worse than no holiday at all, so it’s important to make sure your vacations really are a proper departure from the things you’d do any other weekend. If you’re the sort of person who’s still miserable after lazing around in St Ouen, it’s unlikely that you’re going to get much out of spending half a month’s wages doing the same in Sharm El Sheikh. The sensible option is go on on holiday without your kids and partner, and really relax. Maybe think about faking your own death and moving to Scotland. If you’re forced to take them, an alternative could involve planning a trip that isn’t solely designed to pander to your lazy side. Make yourselves learn a bit of the language, eat strange and occasionally unappetising food and get a bit lost or uncomfortable on occasion. You won’t get a lie in every day, but the contrast will make the running water and absence of lions in Jersey that much more attractive. Just make sure you don’t ditch your travel agent for a man on the internet who only speaks Arabic and is offering you a great deal on a one way ticket to Syria.
ESCAPE KEY VIRTUAL WORLDS
Not everybody can afford holidays, and you might be contractually obliged to spend that fortnight on the beach fantasising about burying your family in the sand. Maybe your escape strategy will need to be acted out in the one space where nobody has to know you have 2.5 children, a mortgage and a chihuahua. That place is the internet. People who don’t trust the internet will say that the only people you’ll meet online will be creepy, basement-dwelling weirdos who would happily lure you to a hotel room and eat you, or at the least send you inappropriate pictures of their bottoms. That’s true, and great if you’re into either of those things, but the reductive stereotype focussing on basement- dwellers and cannibals ignores how great the internet actually is for meeting all the other types of weirdo there are. Some of them even live in attics. No matter what your passion is, you’ll find people online who share it, and will happily spend hours every day bonding with you over it. Rollerblading, hamsters, Jeremy Clarkson’s dress sense - if you love one or all of these things there are people out their ready to embrace you into their loving community. You can pretend to be an elf, a robot, or Jeremy Clarkson, and your spouse and children will never find out - unless you come a cropper in a horrible accident with a rodent and some high-waisted denim.
BECAUSE QUALITY MATTERS
ESCAPE DEATH ADRENALIN SEEKERS
There is a further alternative to world travelling or cyber surfing with cannibals, although it’s not really much of a middle way between the two. There is a small and noble breed of human who will cope with any safe and predictable environment by doing their very best to make it the exciting/dangerous/fatal place they really want to live. Jersey is, strangely, a prime candidate for the adaptable adrenalin junkie, as despite being known for its sandy beaches and grinding traffic, to many resourceful individuals the Island is truly a place defined by raging seas, climbable cliffs and the opportunity for commuting cyclists to feel like they’re contestants in some kind of Mercedessponsored death race. Even St Helier, which is generally only exciting when you’re being mugged for your 1AM chips by booze-addled seagulls, can be opened up by the urban acrobatic art of parkour into a challenging assault course of jumps, vaults and climbs. I myself have designed an extreme form of running, which takes place only on foggy nights, in the country parishes, with me wearing nothing but some skimpy lycra and a coat of baby oil. You’re welcome to join me, but believe me when I say the prize for last place is not something you’re going to be putting on your mantelpiece, unless you manage to grab hold of a welly whilst you’re making your escape.

THE WINDS OF CHANGE Words | Marc Winn
escape I
have an unusual hobby that brings me a lot of joy. It is provocative - as is my way. For the last decade or so, I have spent much of my time freeing people from the tyranny of employment. Every time I help someone escape their employment restricted life, I mentally chalk up another victory on the side of the metaphorical ‘freedom bird’ I fly around on. Call it a peaceful re-imagination of the World War 2 fighter pilots’ painted scores of enemy aircraft shot down. I have helped dozens of people personally, and many more I’ve never met to achieve this, through my work on my blog www. theviewinside.me. It is one of the things I am most proud of. In most cases, it’s not an easy process, but within 2 years, freedom is available to anyone who is committed to their great escape. In the decades to come, we will consider the fixed 9-to-5, 40-hour workweek to be an act of sheer lunacy and social barbarism. It is a form of imprisonment and in most cases, there is little freedom of choice for people who work in organisations. Don’t get me wrong - I have no problem with people who freely want to work like that. But after asking hundreds of people what their ideal workweek would be, I have rarely heard a response that suggests the current norm. Which effectively means that we are forcing people to live a compromise they do not want to live. And it is not neces-
38
sary. That old way of working was designed for an era of employment that does not exist any more. Everything I have learnt and discovered about productivity, motivation, creativity and human performance suggests that this arbitrary employment practice is holding humanity back. In an ideal world, employers would be brave enough to understand that top-down control and thriving human beings do not

mix. To get the best out of people, you need to win their hearts and minds, rather than just have the presence of their body during work hours. The best leaders in the world understand this and are beginning to take bigger and bolder steps towards offering employees more freedom. One of my early business role models was the genius maverick entrepreneur Ricardo Semler. For decades, he has been giving his employees utter freedom at Semler probably the most democratic company on earth. The employees even vote on bosses’ pay. What is more astounding is that he achieved this in Brazil and in businesses sectors such as manufacturing - with a low
skill blue collar workforce, and without the factory floor grinding to a halt. And this message is spreading. Last week, Sir Richard Branson announced that he was giving his employees unlimited holidays, provided that no harm was brought to the organisation. He is no mug, and sees that this will provide far higher returns for him in the long term. I am so glad that he and others like him are starting to take these high profile, bold steps. Ironically, organisations see work hours and productivity go up when such practices are implemented - so there is no real downside. When given freedom and responsibility, by and large, most people respond in a very positive way. Control is an illusion. The more you manage and control everyone for fear of the few who might take advantage, the more you lose everyone in the process. It is the management of the few at the cost of the many. There is no longer any excuse to follow these old, out-dated patterns of employment. The shift to more democratic, results-only work environments is already happening. Some of the best-performing organisations in the world are already doing it; consequently attracting the best employees, and more importantly, getting the best out of them. Competitiveness and control no longer mix well. To win in this brave new world, we must let go. The genie is already out of the bottle. The path of freedom is available to all. The question is - will you pursue it? GUERNSEY’S STYLE MAGAZINE

he first thought we had when crossing the threshold of White Inc. Tattoo’s new tattoo parlour in Trinity Square is that we’d left the streets of St Peter Port behind us and found ourselves in a brightly coloured street art gallery in LA.
With customised skate decks, striking murals, and mirrors featuring sultry pin ups on the walls, White Inc. Tattoo is looking grander and fresher than ever before, having moved to bigger premises from its previous location on Tower Hill. Enticed in by the majestic looking paintwork and frosted tattoo gun windows, we met recently with proprietor and tattoo artist Paul White to learn more about his career as a tattoo artist and about his chosen medium.
Paul White has been tattooing for 18 years. Having trained with Andy Smith in Goa, India, he’s somewhat of a globetrotter, having worked in Germany, Spain, Gibraltar and Menali (India), amongst other places. White Inc. Tattoo (established in 1996) is the third studio that he has set up in Guernsey and pays host to four talented tattoo artists who specialise in a panoply of artistic styles including Portrait realism, graffiti, black and shade work, nu skool and Japanese. Paul (or Pabhimself if you want his instagram handle) prefers to tattoo nu skool and Japanese artwork, however appreciates a wide range of different artists and mediums. When asked who he would name as his favourite artists, Paul was quick to reel off the names of several elite and inspirational tattooists and artists, including Phillip Law, traditional Japanese Irezumi artist Horiyoshi III, Darren Stairs (Unique Tattoo), Mark Machado (more commonly known as Mr. Cartoon), visual artist Gee Vaucher (who designs sleeves for jazz music label Babel Label), the notorious graffiti artist Banksy and tattooist Mike Giant (Rebel8). As well as designing tattoos for clients, Paul and his team of tattoo artists at White Inc. Tattoo also paint and customise skate decks, murals, participate in local art exhibitions and are available for commissions, whether your project be a tattoo, canvas or any of the above. Paul’s hobbies (besides tattooing, of course) include gardening and collecting motorbikes, as well as actively supporting his customers in their own hobbies and pursuits. White Inc. Tattoo sponsors many local events including motocross, cage fighting and the Power boating team ‘Team Slayer’, as well as local music events.
BECAUSE QUALITY MATTERS
It cannot be denied that over the years, the art of tattooing has become much more mainstream and accepted. Paul stated that in his opinion, it’s much easier to be a tattooist nowadays then it was 18 years ago, in that it’s now an art form that is more respected and carries less stigma. In his view, the wage packet is a bonus; the benefits of being a tattoo artist is having the opportunity to meet a lot of people and to have them trust you, as an artist, to mark them for life. In his own words, “There is nothing better than seeing someone happy with a design that you have created for them”. In his view, there is no tattoo that he has inked that stands head and shoulders above the rest, each tattoo inked creates a memory of significant value to both the customer and the tattoo artist. We were intrigued to know what Paul made of the recent vandalism involving the silhouette of a certain local politician. In his opinion, does tattoo art and street art encourage graffiti? “Guernsey’s a beautiful place” he stated, elaborating that although art should be encouraged and promoted, there is no need for street art on public property. “That said…” with a mischievious glint in his eye, “If you want to keep Guernsey beautiful, get tattooed at White Inc!” You can follow the traces of Paul’s tattoo gun by following him on instagram @Pabhimself . [The studio is open from 11 am until 6pm, with evening sessions by appointment only.]

hose of you that are culturally engaged will be well aware of Ormerland. The website was formed in 2012 to provide artists across the Channel Island with an online platform from which to promote their creativity.
That online focus has now burst from the digital confines of the internet into print for the first time. their latest project,Creative Channel Islands: Photography, is a printed publication that explores the photographic creativity of 20 leading and upcoming Channel Island photographers.
42
The founder of Omerland.com Ross Weston and editor of the book told us, "I wanted to showcase a strong selection of unique images from each photographer’s portfolio, the book takes you on a journey through a huge variety of styles and visual expression. Anyone who regularly and enthusiastically enjoys viewing or creating photography will find pleasure and inspiration in this book. The sheer variety of images on show is extraordinary." Throughout the 250 pages you'll be be able to discover over 200 unique images (because 200 of the same image would have been dull) from 20 fantastic Channel Island photographers.
Ross went on to explain "Creative Channel Islands: Photography is assembled in sections, photographer by photographer, alphabetically," which seems like a pretty logical format to us. "Each section opens with the photographer’s biography, their website details and a link to order prints of their images. The pages that follow represent a selection of images from their current portfolio. These images include the title, location of shot and the camera used to capture the image." It is hoped this will help you delve a little deeper into the construction of the material. THE BOOK IS ON SALE NOW. WWW.ORMERLAND.COM

allbeauty’s brand of preference in their allbeauty spa is Guinot. Now that Autumn has arrived your skin can start to become as dried out as the leaves falling from the trees. It’s time to give your skin a surge of moisture and hydrate it. For this, allbeauty recommend Guinot’s star treatment the Hydradermie. This unique treatment is exclusive to Guinot and will make your skin more youthful and radiant from the very first treatment. It enables fast penetration of ionised ingredients allowing deep moisturisation into the skin.
Time Solution Ritual 1 hour 30 mins
Following a deep cleanse and scrub to prepare the skin, the Ultimate Energilift Massage encourages absolute relaxation and maximum toning. This specific modelling massage helps to stretch and ‘work out’ the facial muscles around the eyes, lips, face and décolleté to revive their original tone. The massage is combined with the Ultimate Time Solution Serum and Ultimate Time Solution Massage Cream, which contain powerful active ingredients to reshape facial contours. The Ultimate Time Solution Mask is then applied infusing the skin with Marine Bio-Cellulose, and a relaxing hand and arm massage is carried out whilst the mask is left to work. The treatment is completed with an application of Ultimate Time Solution Cream and Ultimate Time Solution serum for eyes and lips. Skin is left visibly smoother, brighter, lifted and nourished. Rachels Retreat, Saline Road, 01481 244441
Guinot 1 hr 15 mins, £50
The treatment begins with a cleanse and exfoliation with beautifully scented products including ingrediants such as myritillus fruit/ leaf extract, sugar cane and camellia leaf extract. A specific serum gel is then be applied (depending on beauty goal and skin type) to the eye, face and neck. This will then be pushed into the skin with rollers that gently massage all areas of the face. After this gel is removed another product called oxygenating emulsion will be applied, this has a wonderful lavender aroma beginning your relaxation journey. This product brightens the complexion by stimulating skin cell oxygenation and microcirculation. Serums are applied before a wonderful lymphatic drainage massage that allows you to drift away and forget the stresses and strains of the day. Finally a mask will be applied and the relaxation doesn’t stop there, the therapist will massage neck and shoulders and finally your scalp. Take an hour or so out of your busy day and treat your mind and skin. You will leave us feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, and ready for anything. allbeauty, Smith Street, 721221

lue made its mark in the summer collections and was seen again on many of the Autumn/Winter 2014/15 runways. This season, look to the sea for inspiration. Remember the warm waters of the Med? Bright, azure and cyan. Or the turquoise of the southern hemisphere and, of course, the blue-grey waters closer to home. If you’re not sure how to wear this winter’s hottest colour, take a look at the Christian Dior show, where Pat McGrath created a bold, graphic look with blocks of cerulean. Models at Giles wore blue eyeliner on bottom and top lids in a look easy to recreate at home. Or opt for the pastel route, a simple wash of colour over the lid, as seen at the Chloe show. The only rule is to keep the rest of the make-up ultra simple. Experiment with different textures – from sheer shadows to metallic creams and inky long-wear gels and let your colour imagination loose. Yes, there are certain shades of blue that will suit your eye colour but relaxing the rules is all part of the trend. Try a flick of sky blue eyeliner, a sapphire smoky eye, ice blue under the eye to brighten or a denim blue metallic shimmer set off by a smudge of navy kohl on the
4
outer corners. If you’re not feeling too brave then there are some colour guidelines to follow. Green eyes look great against aqua or mauve-based blues – the contrast makes them really pop! Grey eyes work well with navy, air force or Prussian blues and brown eyes contrast well with sea tones and cobalts. Do invest in an eye primer as blues will change on different skin tones and the base will help the colour to remain true. Other than that, just play around. A fine line of lapis on a nude lid and loaded lashes would look modern and fresh for the day. Baby blue, turquoise and cornflower make the perfect colour wash paired with a fine black eye line or replace your grey and black shadows with navy for this season’s smudgy, bold eye make-up for evenings. If you’re not wearing blue on your lids, paint it on your tips. To avoid looking like a teenager, keep your manicure perfectly chipfree. Cobalt looks amazing in the winter; it’s bright enough to make a statement but doesn’t look out of place with a darker wardrobe. Plus, we love how it reminds us of swimming pools, Mediterranean ceramics and sunnier climes!

DOCTOR’S ORDERS Are you treating yourself to the skin you deserve? From banishing fine lines to achieving fuller, plumper lips, with a little help from the leading cosmetic dermatologists at ‘the Aesthetic Skin Clinic’ (Tatler 2014, ‘Top Surgeons and Doctors’) we unlock the secrets to a more youthful glow. From Salma Hayek to Halle Berry, many of today’s famous faces look as good now (if not better) than they did 30 years ago, so what’s their secret? Read on to discover how you too can keep the aging process at bay. Although some women are proficient in naturally preserving their youthful glow, not all of us are as fortunate. So asides from the age-old wife tales, (some true, some far fetched) even the most coveted celebs admit to enlisting in a little help every now and again. Whether it’s a sprinkle of Botox a la Robin Wright, or a smidgen of collagen-boosting and skin-tightening lasers, peptides and enzymes in the case of Vanessa Williams – keeping the skin soft and the complexion radiant doesn’t have to be a chore. Of course, there are also a number of skinfriendly solutions available, many of which are recommended by even the most sought after skin doctors in the industry – and include everything from drinking gallons of water to ensuring you get enough beauty sleep, exfoliating at least twice a week and moisturising morning and night. Then there are the cutting-edge cosmetic treatments - there to provide a helping hand to those who wish to reveal a younger version of their already remarkable selves. Although some perceive cosmetic surgery as a way in which to alter their appearance entirely, it’s in fact about enhancing what you already have. The application has become much more subtle and is now viewed as maintenance – a tool for aging gracefully. The Aesthetic Skin Care Clinic here in Guernsey boasts a worthy ethos, which embodies the spirit of so many of their
62
patients ‘anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old’. The clinic and their Cosmetic Surgery Partners have been offering cosmetic medical and surgery solutions to patients for over 20 years, with each medical team member boasting high levels of recognition in their field. Many of the treatments offered are both non-surgical and non-invasive, proving there are plenty of alternative ways to keep the aging process at bay. The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is one such treatment guaranteed to improve your skin’s look, texture and feel in a matter of minutes, which makes it an ideal option for those who desire a superficial exfoliation treatment with little or no down time. Using a unique blend of acids, this gentle yet effective peel results in tighter, smoother, brighter looking skin – just in time for any up and coming Christmas parties. Another non-invasive, quick fix that promises instant results is the Thermage Facial. The technique employs ThermaCool radiofrequency technology. Clinically proven to tighten and gently shrink the skin, wrinkles are smoothed and the skin feels tighter. Controlled amounts of radiofrequency energy uniformly heat large volumes of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin whilst simultaneously protecting the outer layers of skin through an exclusive cooling technique. Results are expected to last over 24 months and over time, new and remodelled collagen is formed. Another method that embraces this unique technology is INTRAcel – a treatment that is able to deliver energy deep in dermis using a series of specially designed insulated microneedles that won’t damage the epidermis.

Robin Wright, 48, an Actress who played the iconic Princess Buttercup in The Princess Bride and who is currently starring as Claire Underwood in the series House Of Cards. Vanessa Williams, 51, 1983 Miss America,
Singer and 1995 Oscar Winner for her
song Colours of the Wind and, of course, you’ll have seen her playing Wilhelmina Slater in Ugly Betty and Renee Perry in Desperate Housewives. Salma Hayek, 48, an Actress famous for her roles in Dogma, Wild Wild West and Frida Kahlo. Halle Berry, 48, an Actress best known for her Oscar winning role in Monster’s Ball and playing mutant Storm in the X-Men film Series.
Wrinkles however aren’t the only indicators of age and just as the eyes are the windows to our soul, our cheekbones and Cupid’s bow often reveal our true birthdays. Whether you choose to plump your lips just in time for the festive season, or replace lost volume in your cheeks, a three dimensional lift will lessen deep nose to mouth lines and lift the jowls, revealing a more youthful appearance. The Aesthetic Skin Care Clinic uses both Restylane and Juvederm products (hyaluronic acid gel almost identical to the bodies own), which once injected beneath the skins surface, add both volume and lift. The end result – an enviably smoother complexion that lasts anything between 10 and 14 months. The newest in resurfacing, skin tightening and skin plumping treatments are all the rage these days, with more and more of us beginning to realise that treating ourselves to the skin we deserve doesn’t have to a trying procedure. In fact, achieving the skin we’ve always dreamt of is something that can be accomplished in an instance. www.askinclinic.co.uk GUERNSEY’S STYLE MAGAZINE

FOOD REVIEW
SWAN FOR A SONG
The Swan has long been known as a perfect après destination for many office workers in St Peter Port, but is often sadly overlooked as a place to go for dining. With its attractive dark green frontage situated on St Julian’s avenue, the restaurant and bar is cosy, stylish and I was more than happy to accept an invitation to try out what proprietor Christophe and head chef Ross Tucker, had in store for me.

efore we reconvened to the upstairs dining area I started off with one of their famous gin and tonics served with grapefruit; its just one example of how they use little quirks to their advantage at The Swan. The dining area is compact and has a very polished feel to it with a large round dining table at the centre and smaller tables by the windows overlooking the street below.
It was reminiscent of UK gastro pubs I’d visited in larger cities but it still retained an unpretentious charm. Sometimes in smaller dining areas you find the staff can be overly fussy as they struggle to find something to do, but this wasn’t the case at The Swan. We were efficiently attended to without the feeling that someone was hovering around listening to our conversation. Professional service with graceful discretion. The a la carte menu is also in keeping with the gastro pub feel with its pies, burgers and steaks. Attending the restaurant in October however meant we were able to order from

a very competitive Tennerfest menu, so unusually for me, I found myself going for this less expensive option. The dishes on offer really were impressive though and I didn’t feel like I was missing out in the slightest. For starters, I opted for a pulled pork and apple cider tempura served with confit orange zest. With my appetite engaged, I gleefully discovered that the tempura balls were packed with meat and the accompanying sauce was sweet and moreish. My guest had the calamari, which he noted had the perfect consistency. Gin and tonic swiftly devoured I teamed this with a lovely glass of Malbec. The restaurant was maybe three quarters full but we had no noticeable waiting time between our starters and mains. I opted for the pan-seared skate wing with smooth beetroot and sautéed potato. The skate in question must have had a particularly large wingspan, as my portion was very generous! Sometimes skate can be bland and watery but I didn’t find that at all; the fish was seasoned perfectly and the vegetables were full of flavour and the ideal side dish. It was also presented attractively which is something some tennerfest menus overlook.
It was a great change to experience something akin to the gastro pubs in London, right on our doortstep and for a fraction of the price. I didn’t even find the need to steal my guest’s chips which is saying something. He went for a 10oz sirloin - impressive as it was from the Tennerfest menu too, which he stated, along with his glass of Malbec, brought back memories of the steaks he had enjoyed in Argentina. Genuine praise indeed! By this time, I had already moved on to a glass of Sauvignon Blanc that complimented my main fish choice perfectly. It was a nice surprise (to my slightly tipsy self) that I could also opt for a dessert within the three-course deal. Gloriously full, I decided to enjoy the ice cream selection – a little unadventurous but I was still reeling from my scrumptious starter and main. My guest’s blackberry and apple crumble was a large portion and received the same gushing praise that had been eagerly proclaimed throughout the entirety of our evening meal. It was a great change to experience something akin to the gastro pubs in London right on our doorstep and for a fraction of the price. With such a convenient location and truly good cooking, I hope that the hordes decide to make it upstairs at The Swan after work on some evenings before they sink too many of those gin and tonics. GET OUT OF TOWN.
St Peter Port is a gourmand’s delight: you could eat somewhere different every night for a month and there’s something to please everyone. But there are plenty of culinary gems out of town, so why not cast your net a little wider? After all, nowhere’s that far! Caroline Mauger recommends a few favourites.
3 THE AUBERGE DU VAL
5 TASTE OF INDIA
ST SAVIOUR Rural St Saviour’s is beautiful and tranquil and the Auberge du Val, nestling below the picturesque church, fits right in. Owner Fernando Andrade sources wines from his native Portugal, some of which are exclusive to the restaurant. The cuisine has an Italian and French flavour and makes the most of local, seasonal ingredients and produce from the hotel’s own herb garden. The three-course lunch menu is excellent value at £9.95 and includes sirloin steak, plaice and hot peach crumble. From November to March there’s a game menu which looks fascinating, especially the roast pheasant with prunes and porto. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the hotel’s three-acre gardens and sheltered courtyard.
So next time you’re planning to eat out, think coastal, think rural, so you don’t miss out on any of the wonderful eateries Guernsey has to offer!
4 LE GOUFFRE
FOREST I do like a nice sea view and this one is stunning; in fact a trip to Le Gouffre wouldn’t be complete without a walk along the cliffs to burn off a few calories. Hardworking Rui and Angelina Moreira are always warm and friendly and, if you have children in tow, make them feel especially welcome. Le Gouffre’s squashy sofas are perfect for coffee and cake, but I like to come here for Sunday lunch, where there are two roasts on the menu (one being beef) as well as lots more specials. If the lobster thermidor is available, I recommend you go for that.

VALE So you haven’t booked anywhere but you fancy good food in casual, family-friendly surroundings? Head to the Beach House, overlooking Pembroke Bay. With a large outdoor terrace with glazed windbreaks, its appeal is obvious when the sun is shining, but on blustery days you can make a dash inside from the car park and watch braver (or more foolhardy) souls battle the elements. Even if you’re not facing the huge windows, mirrors ensure that everyone can appreciate the view. The menu was updated recently – the Thai green chicken curry is a delicious new addition. Everything on the menu, including breakfast, is served all day long and it’s complemented by a specials board with a roast on Sunday. If you just feel like a hot drink after a bracing walk, the coffee is delicious and so are Auntie Mary’s homemade cakes.

2 THE BEACH HOUSE
ST PIERRE DU BOIS If your only experience of Indian food is late at night after crawling around the bars, get out of town! Tony Fernandes and his team from Goa offer the real deal in their L’Eree restaurant. The authentic menu includes dishes from all over India but the fuller flavoured Goan specialities really have the wow factor. Spices are sourced from the region, the meat is tenderly marinated and the yogurt is homemade, as are the traditional breads such as naan, which are cooked in a charcoal tandoor oven. If, like me, you’re wary of too much spice, all the dishes can be adapted to taste.
BRI DG E
ST MARTIN I love this fresh, contemporary restaurant so much I had my wedding reception here (the weather was so awful I had to describe the amazing view). After tasting the avocado ice cream we had to have it on our menu and Head Chef Daniel Green is still creating interesting dishes with fabulous flavours; it’s easy to see why The Auberge has won so many accolades, including two AA rosettes. The menu changes so often it’s printed on brown paper attached to a clipboard, although the steak board is a permanent fixture. The fish is particularly good here – Daniel is constantly thinking of new ways to make it more interesting, adding an extra dimension if you want it, cooking it simply if you don’t.

Escaping from the daily grind is easier than you might think. state agencies are often asked to provide solutions that show escapism. It is, of course, an entirely subjective request – for some it’s a property that you cannot see or be seen in, a secret driveway, a property that belies its exterior to offer cavernous proportions or even a break from the norm; a sense of something so different that you will never want to leave it. Avocet is quite simply all of the above.

This stunning architect designed, brand new home, is a world away in style from its nearest neighbours. The iconic curved mono pitch roof line is further enhanced by the use of contemporary cladding and soaring glazed sections which bathe the accommodation in South West facing light. Located above Fermain Bay, yet tucked away up a private drive, you would not know that Avocet even existed unless you were lucky enough to visit. With the stunning East coast cliff walks, superb eateries and amenities of both St Martin and St Peter Port on your doorstep, what’s not to love? Designed to take full advantage of the site, the 4,000sq ft property is arranged over two floors and centres on an impressive entrance hall with glazed atrium. ALEX TAYLOR I am Alex Taylor, 40 yrs old. I moved here in 2012 after most of last 10 years in Paris. Having grown up in Bucks, UK. I sold my first startup, Jalipo, an internet video company, in 2008. I’ve recently launched a new Internet startup, Tremr.com - a social blogging platform which means I spend my time between here and Brooklyn, NY where we’re launching the platform. While on island I work from home and remotely - probably about 60% of my day is working out and about. My brain just works better getting out of the house. Here’s my top 6 wireless working destinations on Guernsey: 6. Vista - Vazon Nice location. Lousy view (nickname ‘No Vista’). Nice environment. Often too many kids so noisy. Wifi - very hit and miss. 5. Urban Kitchen - Town Nice environment and staff. Spacious, good for working. Good coffee. Wifi - hit and miss. 4. The Boathouse - Town Nice location and environment. Wifi - good. 3. Muse - Town Great food and staff. Nice environment. A little busy for working sometimes. Wifi - excellent. 2. Half Moon Café - Havelet Bay Best view in town, spacious, great terrace for sunny days, great value and friendly staff. Wifi - very good. 1. Go mobile - Park up on a beach and tether via your phone on 3G The environment is customised to your needs, choose your own radio station and select the temperature you want! View, amazing and you can change it whenever you like. Amenities - thanks to Kiosks, there’s always a cuppa close by. For Internet tethering, in my experience Vodafone Airtel is the best 3G. Phone - I use Google Nexus 5 CHRIS BADER I am Chris, I run & roast coffee at Bean14. I started my passion for coffee over a decade ago. I began buying freshly roasted gourmet coffee simply because there was nothing better on Guernsey. With the proceeds of my tax rebate I then decided to try a bit of home roasting by purchasing my first hot top coffee roaster. I quickly moved onto a small drum roaster which gave me even better results, my hobby was becoming a full time job. In 2006 I said goodbye to the world of banking and hello to the world of beans and the first bag of Bean 14 was born. My top location for wifi in Guernsey is Le Grande Mare. The best place I’ve ever worked remotely is the sunny Australian Gold coast.
BECAUSE DO BUSINESS QUALITY IN STYLE MATTERS
At the end of the day, we have a great selection of out&about wifi spots in this island, which allows you to enjoy a hot day in a beer garden, add a pint of San Miguel, priceless... DANIEL MEINKE I am Daniel Meinke, Managing Director of Bumblebee Marine Ltd and Skipper of Bumblebee. Spending the majority of my life at sea, working remotely is key to keeping the business running from wherever I may land. My experience locally of wifi is limited as I rely on mobile data most of the time but I have worked in Costa in Guernsey and Jersey as their wifi seems reliable and is free with a drink. Also the lack of local wifi experience is partly due to the fact I object to paying a few pounds for a drink and they don’t even finish making it for you. So my drink is a take out tea from the Albany Kiosk behind the bus terminus. They charge 70 pence for a tea ready to drink. If you need wifi then paying a bit more for a seat and the facility is fine but over here I just use the 3G included in my contract and have a cheap drink. The best places I’ve worked remotely... Currently my favourite place to work is the Braye Beach Hotel in Alderney. Anyone who knows it will know of the views over the spectacular golden sands of Braye Beach. You can sit inside in the light and airy glass walled lounge or outside on the decking which reaches out so that you are practically on the beach. I’ve had many days sat there keeping in touch using their wifi and enjoying a pot of tea. Being Alderney’s ferry operator, the businessman in me is happy to be busier year on year, but personally, year on year I get less time to spend there, straight in and out, and I start to miss that gem of an island. A beautiful marina side restaurant in Gocek, Turkey became my local whilst I was based down there in 2008. Skippering and managing a large motor yacht around the Greek Islands and South Coast of Turkey meant administration, accounting and reporting had to be done after a day on the mirror calm Med seas, sitting outside on hot evenings with the nearest wifi hotspot. The restaurant in Gocek Marina stands out as a favourite though. Being served with some of the best food in the world, watching the sun go down over the dramatic hilly landscape west towards Marmaris, little islands and hidden anchorages. Being crew as opposed to a boat owner meant that you’d be treated as an equal with the locals so once the work was done I’d often sit and chat (in pigeon English/Turkish) with a local or two and sometimes the staff would join us for a drink too. On a quiet night I would make the most of the wifi and phone family and friends using skype rather than pay the expensive international call rates. So there was admin to do, but I’ve had worse places to work... someone had to do it!

Directors’ and Officers’ insurance the focus of Heritage Insurance seminar Regulatory action has become the number one source of claims filed against directors in the UK, it was revealed at a recent lunchtime seminar hosted by Heritage Insurance. Grant Mitchenall, director at Heritage Insurance, said: “Recently we have seen an increase in the number of cases being brought against directors and officers in both the UK and offshore markets. With around 750 directors registered in Guernsey, this is an increasingly relevant issue.”

Lloyd’s Trust Company (Channel Islands) Limited made the decision to move a Liechtensteinbased foundation to Guernsey following the introduction of foundations legislation into Guernsey law last year. Senior associate Natasha Kapp said Carey Olsen has had several enquiries regarding foundation migrations into the island following the introduction of the new law, which allows Guernsey to offer a product that is more familiar to clients from civil law jurisdictions.

t’s a problem that has haunted men for millennia. Comparing size, power and thrust is nothing new and now Mercedes have produced a vehicle capable of trumping any argument that involves the words, “mine is bigger than yours.”
Whether you’re driving off-road through the pristine Guernsey countryside or cruising down a motorway off-island, the Mercedes G-Class provides a unique driving experience that blends cutting edge engineering with safety, luxury and style. With a physique that appears as if the Mercedes G-Wagon has been hewn from a single block of metal, this 4-wheel drive monster is sure to capture the imagination of all who see it. Pulling up outside LUNA in one of these is guaranteed to coax those orange faces and tattooed heads to turn in your direction, as will power sliding onto the Dirtbike track at Torteval headland. Both of these driving arenas are easily piloted in the Mercedes G-Class, but a random field in the south of the island
86
provided a decent testing ground for its off-road capabilities. A sensor unit in the centre of the dashboard highlights the proximity of objects (people or structures) either side of the vehicle whilst in motion. It’s a very basic system that takes a little time to get used to but an entirely necessary and welcome instrument that could prevent collisions and scrapes when driving a vehicle with such sizeable dimensions. Squeezing through field gates and conquering giant walled slopes has never been easier.
Too much power and grass rapidly turns to tyre fodder but impressively, the energy distribution felt composed and balanced, as did the suspension, on and off the road.
The Mercedes G-Class 350 Bluetec packs 3L of V6 Diesel hedonism into a fairly weighty machine. Don’t expect M3 or Porsche pickup, but do expect quite naughty engine sounds and an effortless cruising speed that is achieved faster than most competitor 4x4 vehicles currently available on the market. Too much power and grass rapidly turns to tyre fodder but impressively, the energy distribution felt composed and balanced, as did the suspension, on and off the road. It grips uneven surfaces spectacularly and although there is some cabin bounce whilst avoiding hay-bales and wildlife, the Mercedes ultimately feels firm and reliable.

The Jacksons garage model comes equipped with a chrome design package, which includes protective grills for the headlights, a relatively basic rear-view camera system for reversing (choose those spaces wisely), and various additional bits of Mercedes flair to really highlight the depth of your pockets; showing off your bank balance has never been easier! The rear entertainment system package (an option that will add to the final price) includes viewing screens for the backseat passengers to enjoy the latest movies and digital content on those arduous and time-consuming road trips. The system allows for separate content to be displayed on the front and rear passenger screens meaning parents won’t have to succumb to the monotony of Peppa Pig marathons but can instead, enjoy all of the special features on their Game of Thrones box set.
turning it into an expensive but wholly worthwhile family purchase. An impressive utility cruising vehicle primed for urban and rural navigation. It’s an incredible drive once you succumb to the poor turning circles and its slightly cumbersome appearance. If I needed to escape a horde of rampaging Zombies and had to use something in the immediate vicinity, this would be my vehicle of choice. Otherwise I’d obviously choose a tank or an Apache Gunship Helicopter, both of which are currently unavailable at Jacksons Garage Guernsey. The Mercedes G-Class starts at £72,000+ on the road, with a deluxe extras package weighing in at £85,995.
There is a certain charm that lies in its rugged simplicity. The cubist appearance of the Mercedes 4x4 isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, especially considering the amount of money that is required to own one. Attach legs to it and the G-Class could be mistaken for one of those AT-AT walkers from Star Wars. But this is a car for the diehard Mercedes lover; those who revel in the badge and the prestige that inevitably comes with owning a chunk of slightly garish German engineering. With ‘comfort selection’ leather seats (that all passengers can enjoy), spacious cabin and generous boot-space, the Mercedes G-Class also provides a great feeling of safety whilst driving,

COMPACT GADGETS
This month I’ve had to be realistic. When I read that the subject for this edition of Gallery was “Escape”, I was immediately inspired by images of Bondesque missions and being captured by evil tyrants that, for some reason, despite being able to create laser death machines, still use rope as their method of binding the hero. However, whilst these images flicked through my mind, I had a very sobering, disappointing realization. Not all men are James Bond. Quite the contrary in fact. The majority of men, women and children will never experience the rush of being chased down a picturesque mountainside somewhere in the unexplored Alps by machine gun-clad helicopters. Rather, the overwhelming majority of people will simply grow up, get a job and settle into the reality that is the working world. Needless to say, the inspiration I had taken from the images of Bond, Bourne and Bacon (Kevin’s an action hero at heart) was quickly ruined, and I began to wonder what gadgets there could be out there for escape, when you can’t escape from real life. But how naïve I was. If movies like Sucker Punch and Inception have taught us anything, it’s that you certainly can escape from real life, quite easily in fact. It may not be an incredibly intricate and eerily-real dream, but welcome in the world of “virtual reality”. When the doldrums of a stagnant life start to get you down, Virtual Reality gadgets are the perfect way to escape from the redundant daily repetitions and (digitally) put yourself in that tux, hold that gun and shoot your way out of the evil dictator’s private chamber. Ironic, really.

SAMSUNG GEAR VR (OCULUS)
For anyone that has read this feature in the past, you may be aware that I harbor a certain disdain for the new Samsung Galaxy Gear. It is simply a collection of grotesque watches that serve about as much purpose as a convertible submarine, or so I thought. With the help of Oculus, there is a new addition to the Galaxy Gear family that may just save the company from the wrath of scathing online reviews. This new addition is the Samsung Gear VR, Innovator Edition. This headset, although blinding you to the outside world and making you look like a rejected extra from AI: Alien Intelligence, is essentially witchcraft to those who don’t understand the science of virtual reality, and let’s be honest who does? Boasting one of the widest ranges of features in the market, the Samsung Gear VR is not only
a gaming device when linked to a range of Samsung smart phones, but also acts as your own personal 2 and 3D cinema, with a store of movies to buy or to watch off your phone. The Innovator Edition is only the prototype essentially, and thus, as the company admits, there are still things to work out with this device, the features on it only being beta versions. However, in the future, I have absolutely no doubt these things will be the new Nintendo Wii, minus the shocking failures that came after the original. Unfortunately, after a back-breaking, eye-aching 5 minute search online, I found out these things will only be available within the next few weeks, and I can’t even find a place to pre-order them. Just keep looking out online, because realistically this thing won’t be making its way to the island any time soon.
GOOGLE GLASS
Although the Google Glass may not appear to fit in this list of “escape” gadgets, I believe that this represents a new form of virtual reality, one in which the attention is drawn away completely from the real world itself and put onto the glasses’ view of it. Google may try and claim that the person is still connected to the real world when wearing the Google Glass, however I have to question whether or not seeing a computer display in front of you really constitutes a real world view? This is not taking away from the fact that the glasses are damn impressive, and all their features are still mindblowing. With Google Glass, we’ve really taken a massive stride technologically, giving you constant access to all sorts of features that we could normally only find on our computers at home, and yet I can’t help feel that this no longer constitutes “escape” from the real, working world, instead offering a replacement. A terrifying concept, especially when considered that the “escape” we look for now may in fact in the
5DT DATA GLOVE 5 ULTRA
Despite having a name that evokes the sense that this glove was created by a European in the early stages of learning English, the 5DT Data Glove 5 Ultra is in fact an incredible piece of kit. For anyone that has ever wondered about the ways in which CGI fight scenes are created, this is an important gadget to have, or at least to understand. The Data Glove, when connected by USB to a computer, tracks the movement of the wearer and creates (with a bit of help from you) an animation featuring yourself. Freaky? Yes. Wondrous? Yes. Devil’s work? Perhaps, but that doesn’t stop it being incredibly cool, giving you the ability to literally (not at all literally)
future be a return to mundane, technologyfree life. Good old science. I realize that nothing in that was actually about the function of the Google Glass itself, so here are some facts on the product: It can analyse your golf swing, navigate you, give you a perfectly designed workout plan in the gym and even send messages. Like I say, impressive, and let’s see Samsung do that with a watch (I really hate the Galaxy Gear). Unfortunately, and I’m becoming used to starting these final sentences with that, the Google Glass is not cheap. Just for the frames, it’s $1,500, and once again I am certain that this will be an “order online” job. However, who can put a price on a heads-up display of how to improve your drive? live out your fantasies through animation. Dreams, however, come at a considerable price (if your dreams involve home animation). The non-wireless version of this product, limiting your movement and space, starts at $895.00, roughly £556, and the wireless version, whilst freeing your movement, will not free you from crippling debt, costing £925. Needless to say, this product comes from a website on which there are more grammatical mistakes than there are hanging from the walls of Year 1 classrooms, but hey, the fun of virtual reality is virtually priceless (IT’S TOO EASY). PHONE HOME All i Phone for Christmas The Channel Islands’ own superstar DJ - and Airtel-Vodafone Brand Ambassador - Hannah Jacques looks at the iPhone 6 and 6+
If you’re an Apple fan the chances are that the iPhone 6 is already on your Christmas list and nothing that I or anyone else says is going to change that. Those of us who like the iPhone, but realise that there are other makes out there, may want a bit more information but for some the mere fact that Apple have brought out the latest version will be enough. So what can I say? Yes it’s the best iPhone so far and built brilliantly (as you’d expect). But I don’t like the back with its plastic strips and the hump which makes the handset wobble when I put it down. The front on the other hand looks great and its bigger brother, the 6+, looks even better. The display has been upgraded from the iPhone 5, yet the battery life is better too, so it has better features for longer. The speakers and video player are okay, but the camera and video recorder are fantastic. The iOS 8 means that there are extra features, but I noticed that it didn’t have an FM radio. I guess that iPhones come under such scrutiny that things like that will get noticed, even if they’re minor or fixable. The iPhone 6, and 6+, compare pretty well to the competition but they don’t blow everything else out the water. Yes, they’re fast and they have an apple on them, but if you want more features on your phone then you might look elsewhere. I’d pop in to Airtel-Vodafone and actually pick up one of these, a competitor, and talk about which is better for you. However, I suspect that there will still be a lot of people who will be disappointed if they unwrap anything else on 25 December.
Made for Living! The Sony Xperia Z3
You could be swimming or with friends at a concert. You could be running or at home, gaming. It really doesn’t matter what you’re doing, if you are living life, then you should live it with the Sony Xperia Z3 or, if you’ve smaller pockets, the Z3 Compact. Whilst it is the incredible screen quality that first catches the eye with the Z3, there is so much hidden within its sleek aluminium and glass frame that it’s difficult to know where to start. The 5.2 inch screen knocks the spots off the competition with an extremely high resolution 1080 x 1920 (4.6 inches and 720 x 1280 for the compact) crystal clear display. Combine a screen of such quality with a 20.7 megapixel camera and you’ll see the results for yourself in the razor sharp images you capture both above and below the waterline.
Both Z3s use Android for their operating systems, giving you access to the thousands of apps in the Play Store and the Sony Entertainment Network, with hundreds of movies, tunes and games to choose from. Both the Z3 and Z3 Compact are immensely powerful multimedia phones that will fit right into your life. All you need to do is choose the size that best fits your pocket! Pop into the Sure Store to try a Z3 for size. They are both available for free on the SmartUltimate plan.

Say cheese! (To yourself...) How to… REPLY TO TEXTS ON AN IPHONE QUICKLY
If you’re playing a game, watching YouTube, or doing anything else on your iPhone, you may not want to stop in order to answer a message. If you get a message and you have to reply, if you have an iPhone with iOS8 you can do it without leaving the application you’re in. To do it:
•
Slide your finger down from the top of the screen
•
A mini window will appear – write your response
•

Below the waterline? Yes, you read right! The Z3 and Z3 compact are both water and dust resistant to such a degree that you can happily take them onto the beach and then into the sea so you can share your underwater memories with friends.

ure is bringing ice skating back to Guernsey this winter. Sure Skate will move to a new venue at Le Friquet, which will allow a larger rink to be created. It will be open seven days a week from Monday 1 December through until Sunday 4 January, with the exception of from lunchtime on Christmas Eve until Saturday 27 December, as well as New Year’s Day.
‘Bringing Sure Skate back was something we had worked on for many months as we knew it was something which islanders missed. The reaction has been amazing and we can’t believe how excited people are. We knew it was going to be popular but we have been overwhelmed by all the positive comments, particularly about it being at Le Friquet,’ said Sure’s PR and marketing manager Jessica Bisson. ‘The new venue, plus a much larger rink, means that we are not only able to provide festive fun but also create a winter wonderland which has been lacking in Guernsey
in the past. It’s a far more suitable location as it will allow us to have a 65ft by 50ft rink that will be more accessible, have better catering facilities and more parking. We hope that all of this will make it more of a community event and that islanders will enjoy having the chance to skate over the Christmas period.’ Miss Bisson added that the synthetic ink will be more environmentally friendly. ‘The rink will be synthetic ice, which provides the same experience as skating on ice but does not need to be frozen. This is not only better for the environment but it also means it will not need to be raised and will look nicer. We are bringing over Ice Magic to install and manage the rink as they are one of the world’s leading suppliers, having installed more than 700 rinks across the world and having worked with large name brands like Coca Cola and Harrods.’ The rink will be on the grass area next to the entrance of Le Friquet Garden Centre and be suitable for all ages, from two upwards. Ice Magic is providing ‘proficiency penguins’ to help younger skaters balance and trained staff to ensure the safety of all skaters.
James Robin, manager of Le Friquet, said Sure Skate would add to the festive atmosphere. ‘Each year we try and make Le Friquet the destination for Christmas decorations and gifts and having Sure Skate there will make it more magical than ever. The centre, including the café and restaurant, will be open throughout Sure Skate so that people can come in and warm up after their skating session. Everyone is really excited and can’t wait to see it become a reality,’ he said. Tickets are now on sale at Le Friquet Garden Centre on a first come, first served basis. ‘We know that Christmas is an expensive time of year, so we have worked very hard to keep the ticket price as low as we can. Sure’s financial support means that a 45-minute session will cost just £5 per person,’ said Miss Bisson. There will also be an opportunity for companies and organisations to book exclusive use of the rink over the course of December. Anyone interested in corporate bookings should contact Guernsey Event Company on 728686 or email info@eventguernsey.com

Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo * buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo. Words | John Mccarthy
*Did you know that “Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo” is a grammatically sound sentence? This is thanks to its triple meaning: the place in New York, a type of bison and its verb form meaning “to bully or intimidate”. It’s my favourite sentence.

Buffalo Huddleston Band Words : John McCarthy
I
t’s 1928 in Houston Texas, and seven police officers proudly line up for a photograph. The men are part of the Houston Police Pistol Team and whilst they all clearly share an insatiable passion for capping crooks, two also share the name Mike Meinke. This coincidence brought the old photograph to the attention of Guernsey’s own Mike Meinke, but it was another officer’s unique name that really piqued his interest: Buffalo Huddleston. Mike, who is well known in Guernsey for his dexterous guitar playing, quickly adopted the moniker and has used it as his stage name ever since. This, he says, was because nobody could remember his real name. His music on the other hand is certainly memorable. Mike is no stranger to pushing limits; last year he ran the Marathon des Sables, a punishing 150 mile run across the Sahara. During this feat he experienced an epiphany, vowing to pursue his passions fearlessly and escape his day job as an accountant. He has since qualified as a master personal trainer and started a business called Machine Like Me, devoting his remaining time to music. ‘Buffalo Huddleston’ has continued to evolve, from solo act to trio to the current six-piece band. At the core is Mike’s infectious songwriting and percussive guitar prowess, which was first bolstered by the addition of Sarah van Vlymen and Becky Hamilton on violins and vocal harmonies. This added texture and helped

forge a more defined musical identity, leading to the release of the Sky High EP in 2013. This year the line-up has further expanded with rapper Jull-Z, upright bass player Thomas Bradshaw and drummer Simon Prince. With the new album, Sunrise, released just weeks ago we caught up with Mike to get the buffa-low down… How would you classify the Buffalo Huddleston Band? We’ve struggled to categorise our music as we fuse folk, hip-hop, reggae, blues and various other genres. The most accurate description we could come up with is ‘organic funk folk-hop’. If anyone has a better idea we’d love to hear it! Who are your primary influences? The great thing about the band is that we all come from diverse musical backgrounds. Sarah and Becky are both classically trained violinists, Thomas and Simon has played in numerous local bands and Jull-Z has his roots predominantly in hip-hop. I started in the metal band Crunchy Frog but mellowed over the years and developed a pretty eclectic taste. Guitar-wise, people like Preston Reed, John Butler and Leo Kottke influence me. A frequent comment about the band is “that really shouldn’t work, but it does!” What are your ambitions for the band? I’d love to make a living out of our music. A few of us are busy starting our own label so we can be in complete control of our material; there is so much you can accomplish these days without the backing of a big label. We’ve had an incredible summer gigging around the islands and it would be nice to get over to the mainland for a few festivals.
What has been your most memorable gig? Without a doubt our best was the Sark Folk Festival this year. I’d never experienced that level of crowd noise coming back at me – it was an unforgettable experience for us. What’s your approach to songwriting? I try to make songs conversational. If you use language, phrases and clichés from day-to-day life you can connect with people; it’s catchier and more authentic. That’s not to say it should lack structure. I love the art, intricacies and composition of poetry and attempt to reflect that in my lyrics. Musically, I try to blend interesting rhythms and techniques with a memorable melody. What’s the story with Sunrise? Sunrise has been a long time coming. Jull-Z and I have played some of these songs for a number of years but we always knew it would take some serious musicianship to get the most out of them. Sarah, Becky, Thomas and Simon have brought so much to the table and the album is something we’re all very proud of. Physical copies of the album are available from Kendall Guitars and digital copies can be purchased via our Bandcamp page.
