Following a successful inaugural event last year, we are excited for this year’s Global Gaming Awards Asia-Pacific.

The interest the event generated in 2022 and the feedback we received surpassed our expectations, so of course we’re back and looking forward to celebrating the achievements of operators and suppliers from across Asia-Pacific.

A lot happened in Asia this past year: the Macau SAR Government signed new 10-year gaming contracts with its six concessionaires and most importantly Macau is offi cially back! The borders re-opened in January, masks requirement and other Covid-19 restrictions were lifted shortly after, and casino operators are back to profit.

Elsewhere, Singapore continued to see huge success with Sands reporting record

gaming revenues at the Marina Bay Sands. Positive numbers were reported from the Philippines, too. The country’s operators have not been wasting any time with Bloomberry Resorts ramping up construction activity at Solaire Resort North, which is scheduled to open early next year, and Hann Resorts breaking ground on the ambitious Hann Reserve. And speaking of new properties, Japan’s first integrated resort was finally given the go-ahead, meaning that a casino will open its doors in Osaka by the end of the decade.

As operators continue to upgrade their existing properties, and develop new ones, suppliers have also put tremendous effort into delivering the best products that meet the needs of casinos and their customers.

I’ve had the pleasure of working on the Global Gaming Awards since 2019 and in that time our flagship event in Las Vegas, as well as our event in London, grew beyond our wildest expectations.

Each year we receive self-nominations from more companies, more senior industry executives show interest in participating in the voting process and our events’ prestige remains unrivaled.

It is always a pleasure and an honor to work on any of the Global Gaming Awards events, however, I have to say that launching the Asia-Pacific event last year was a huge milestone for our company and a personal highlight for me.

The Asia-Pacific gaming market is so fascinating and it 100% deserved a dedicated Global Gaming Awards event. It’s no coincidence that companies from Asia and Australia have been nominated and even won at our previous events in Las Vegas and London.

event received was so positive, and already we’ve seen even more interest this year. For those who are not fully familiar with the Global Gaming Awards, I’d like to share a few key details.

We pride ourselves in producing the most prestigious Awards in the gaming industry. I am aware that this is a bold statement, but we have implemented a number of rules and procedures to ensure that it is true.

The process starts with companies submitting self-nominations and outlining what they have achieved in the past 12-18 months. In addition, we ask independent industry consultants and experts for their recommendations and honest opinion. The Gambling Insider team also conducts thorough research and looks for the best performers from both the operator and the supplier sides.

Each company and individual who makes it to the final Shortlist is nominated for a reason which you will be able to

read in this magazine. There are an equal number of nominees across all company categories, and should a company have multiple brands, only one of those brands can be nominated in a particular category.

We then invite senior industry executives to choose the winners. Only one person per company is allowed to participate in the Judging Panel. All executives who were invited and kindly agreed to participate in this year’s Judging Panel are extremely knowledgeable of the APAC region and have years of experience in the gaming industry.

I would like to thank every single one of them for taking time out of their busy schedule to cast their votes. Without their contribution these Awards wouldn’t be the same and it is an honor to have such brilliant executives on our Judging Panel! Judges are asked to cast their vote for a winner and a runner-up in each category. If the company they work for is nominated in a particular category, they are blocked from voting in said category. KPMG in the Crown Dependencies independently adjudicates the voting process to ensure full fairness and transparency, so a big thank you goes to the fantastic KPMG team, too.

As you see, this is a long and complicated process which ensures that all winners deserve their awards. I look forward to May 29 when we will see who this year’s winners are.

KPMG has acted as independent adjudicator of the Global Gaming Awards (GGA) since they were established in 2014, first in Vegas then a few years later in London, and throughout that time I have been the lucky person who gets to do the final ’on the ground’ check by joining Mariya Sayova on stage to announce the results.

So I was delighted last year to see the Awards expand to Asia and be so enthusiastically supported and received – especially as it looks like interest levels are even higher for year two!

Of course there is no change to KPMG’s adjudication approach - we review the GGA’s system and tools for collecting votes (and ensuring judges cannot vote in categories where they have a conflict), check that the winner & runner-up in each category has been determined correctly based on votes cast, and select a random sample of judges whom we contact to check that the votes recorded for them in the system are a complete and accurate reflection of their voting.

GENTING SINGAPORE

Genting Singapore’s revenues in the second half of 2022 were 60% higher than H1. Gaming alone brought in SG$753.7m (US$566m) and non-gaming SG$307.8m (US$230m). Gaming revenue for 2022 was up 53% from 2021, and non-gaming revenue - up 90%. The figures signal that Genting Singapore is on track to achieve full recovery from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the medium term.

NAGACORP

NagaCorp, the owner and operator of Cambodian integrated resort NagaWorld, continued to build momentum in its business, and is recovering well after the effects of two challenging years of Covid-19.For 2022 NagaCorp reported a 99.5% increase in gross gaming revenue to US$445.9m. The company reported a 197% increase in mass gaming revenue to US$328.1m. NagaCorp is currently working on its US$3.5bn Naga3 development, the latest expansion of NagaWorld, which, once completed, will increase the property’s offering to 5,000 hotel rooms, 4,500 EGMs and 1,300 gaming tables.

In just a month after local borders reopened, MGM China’s combined properties became the highest earning business within MGM Resorts International. As part of the new 10-year concession in Macau, MGM China was allowed to increase its number of tables

-Covid measures impacting revenue over the past year, among Macau’s casino groups, MGM China’s market share grew the most.

BLOOMBERRY RESORTS CORPORATION

2022 was a strong year for Bloomberry with net income reaching PHP5.1bn (US$92.2m) The company’s flagship resort in the Philippines, Solaire, benefited from a strong rebound in local demand across all business segments. Gaming revenues reached 84% of pre-pandemic levels, driven by the domestic-focused mass table games and EGM segments where revenues already reached 100% of 2019 values. Throughout 2022 the operator continued working hard on the highly anticipated Solaire Resort North in Quezon City, which is expected to open its doors next year.

WYNN RESORTS

During the Chinese New Year period, Wynn delivered its strongest EBITDA performance since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic: approx. US$4m a day. Additionally, indirect VIP turnover was 40% above pre-Covid Chinese New Year levels. Positive numbers were also posted for the non-gaming side of Wynn’s Macau business,with 96% hotel occupancy and retail sales up 34% compared to the Chinese New Year period in 2019. As part of its renewed Macau concession, at the end of last year Wynn Macau committed

Galaxy Entertainment reported gross gaming revenue of HK$1.8bn (US$229m) for Q4 2022, representing, 99% rise from Q3 2022, with mass gross gaming revenue of HK$1.6bn (US$203m). The operator also announced that it will progressively open Phase 3 of Galaxy Macau in Cotai during the second quarter of this year. The project includes Galaxy International Convention Center, Galaxy Arena and Raffles at Galaxy Macau.

MELCO RESORTS & ENTERTAINMENT

While Melco’s Macau properties were still impacted by travel restrictions throughout 2022, the operator’s Philippines IR, City of Dreams Manila, showed positive signs of recovery. For Q3 2022, rolling chip volume at Melco’s Manila property rose to US$940.7m compared to US$206.3 in Q3 2021. Gaming machine handle and mass market table games drop also grew year on year during Q3 2022 by 25% and 31% respectively. Back in Macau, Melco continued working on Studio City Phase 2 which is nearing completion now and scheduled to open in the second quarter of this year. Last but not least, Melco reported that it is on track to reach its 2030 goals in environmental sustainability.

Over the past 12 months Sands remained committed and confident in its investment in Macau. The company reported a strong Chinese New Year period at its Macau properties, outperforming its competitors in terms of visitation numbers. A survey by Citigroup Global Markets Inc. estimated that during the month of February 2023 Sands subsidiary, Sands China, was the market leader, by share of total wager, in Macau’s ‘premium mass’ gambling segment. Elsewhere, Sands’ Singapore property - the iconic Marina Bay Sands, delivered record gaming revenue.

For Q4 2022, Marina Bay Sands set a new all-time revenue record in both mass gaming and retail. Net revenue at the property reached US$682m, of which casino revenue was US$402m. Last year MBS embarked on a US$1bn reinvestment to “significantly elevate luxury and lifestyle offerings”.

In December 2021, the Widus Hotel & Casino in Clark, the Philippines, opened its doors as Hann Casino Resort, following an expansion and rebranding. The IR, part of a multi-million expansion project by the Hann Group, brought to life the idea of a “millionaire’s playground”. It boasts a Las Vegas-style casino (triple the size of the previous gaming area at the Widus Hotel & Casino) that attracts players with its raffle draws, VIP gaming, hundreds of slot machines, and a large number of classic and electronic table games. In March 2022 the first Swissôtel-branded hotel in the Philippines opened at the Hann Casino Resort.

HOIANA

RESORT & GOLF

Hoiana combines a fantastic beachside location and centuries-old tradition with sophisticated elegance and vibrant entertainment. The property contains one of the most extensive entertainment facilities of its kind in Vietnam.The casino has 140 table games, more than 350 slot machines and live table stadium games. In addition to the luxurious casino, guests at Hoiana can enjoy a “top 100 golf course”.

RESORTS WORLD SENTOSA

Genting Singapore’s property reported soaring revenues for H2 2022. The

property is currently working on its 2.0 expansion project, which includes the construction of the Singapore Oceanarium, and Minion Land at Universal Studios Singapore to name a few. The revamped Festive Hotel at RWS is expected to make its debut this May, adding 389 rooms to the resort’s overall hotel inventory.

OKADA MANILA

Okada Manila has turned into a landmark in the Philippines. The property boasts one of the largest and most luxurious gaming floors in the country. Aside from the thrills of gaming, guests can also splurge on luxury brands in the shopping esplanade or indulge in a fancy meal in some of Manila’s finest restaurants. The property’s owner - Tiger Resort, Leisure and Entertainment Inc, reported that Okada Manila’s gross gaming revenue for Q4 last year was PHP10.5bn (US$193m), representing a 54.9% year-on-year increase. For the full year in 2022, Okada Manila’s GGR rose by 81.5% to PHP34.3bn (US$629m).

NAGAWORLD

NagaWorld is one of the finest integrated casino-hotels in Southeast Asia. It is home to Cambodia’s largest and most luxurious casino, where guests can play classic table games and slot machines, as

well as Texas Hold’em Poker, and Keno. The property also boasts a sportsbook, powered by Kambi’s leading technology. In 2022, NagaWorld continued to benefit from the reasonably sized domestic captive market in Cambodia and posted stable property visitation numbers during the year.

Solaire has been the main driver of Bloomberry Resorts’ return to profitability in the past 12 months with GGR reaching PHP50.1bn (US$913m) in 2022, an 81% increase from 2021. Located in Manila’s Entertainment City, Solaire offers a unique experience of comfort, elegance and luxury. It has luxurious accommodation across two towers, extensive dining options, and state-of the art theatre. The massive casino floor is filled with slots, table games, and other betting machines. The casino floor also boasts a custom-made ETG Stadium with one of the largest curved LEDs in the world which showcases 144 single stations connected to 21 different live games on the floor.

CITY OF DREAMS MANILA

Located at the gateway of Entertainment City’s Manila Bay area, City of Dreams Manila is a premier leisure and entertainment destination not just in the Philippines but in Southeast Asia. It boasts 6 hotel towers (of 3 world-renowned brands: Nobu, Nuwa and Hyatt Regency), spacious retail boulevard, top restaurants, iconic architectural art such as the Fortune Egg, and the world’s first DreamPlay. The IR of course also features a luxurious casino for VIP and mass-market gaming. Gaming volumes at City of Dreams Manila have reached close to pre-pandemic levels, with rolling chip volume showing significant growth in Q4 2022.

IGT’s Cash Cove family of games, displayed on the stunning Crystal Dual 27 cabinet, is a player favourite in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. Last year IGT enhanced the player experience by releasing a tournament version of the Cash Cove games in the Singapore market, thus allowing operators to boost business on slower days and run promotions for their players at various tiers. Aristocrat’s Tian Ci Jin Lu appeals to mass market players with its auspicious Chinese theme, impressive visuals and a boosted Hold & Spin mechanic which gives players more chances to win. Each non-winning spin increases the progressive jackpot. Tian Ci Jin Lu comes with two game titles - Phoenix and Emperor, and last year made its way to casinos in Macau, Singapore, and the Philippines.

TransAct’s Epic Edge is a global market leader in ticket-in/ticket-out printers. It is the only printer on the market with a 300 dpi resolution, thus delivering a 50% improvement over other printers. In 2022, the Macao SAR government awarded The Venetian Casino and The Londoner Casino with the qualification of Responsible Gaming Implementation Model Unit in its Responsible Gambling Indicators program. Furthermore, last February, Sands China donated a total of MOP450,000 (US$55,700) to four local NGOs to aid their responsible gaming efforts. Since 2006, Sands China has donated more than MOP6.25m (US$773,660) in support of RG. In addition, Sands’ Singapore property - Marina Bay Sands, is also dedicated to serving its community. For example, the property raised more than S$4m for the local community last year.

NAGACORP

NagaCorp has contributed to the development of Cambodia’s economy and community for over 20 years. The company’s CSR arm, NagaWorld Kind Hearts, aims to help communities throughout Cambodia. It has conducted more than 590 programs to date focusing on education, community engagement, sports development and the environment. Over the past couple of years NagaWorld Kind Hearts has had a positive impact on the education sector by providing study materials and educational sessions to schools around the country.

MELCO RESORTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Throughout 2022, Melco continued to bring joy to the Macau community through its Simple Acts of Kindness 2.0 volunteering initiative. For example, Melco volunteers devoted 400+ hours to more than 540 local beneficiaries throughout the Christmas period. More recently Melco team members dedicated nearly 600 hours to springtime events benefiting approximately 800 local children, women and elderly people. Other notable achievements from the past 12 months include generating over MOP8m (US$992,540) in additional revenue for 180 Macau SMEs and NGOs via the Heart of House roadshow series.

WYNN MACAU

Wynn has been a responsible stakeholder in Macau since it first became part of the community, with its donations and sponsorships benefiting numerous charities and community groups. Through the Wynn Care Foundation, more than 6,400 Wynn Employee Volunteers donated over 24,000 hours of time, which also supported pandemic prevention through helping at testing stations and working closely with the local community. Wynn has also continually supported local SMEs, co-organizing networking events and partnering with local young entrepreneurs. Additionally, Wynn became the only operator in Macau to have all its properties EarthCheck benchmarked.

FBM GAMING

FBM Gaming, the specialist in electronic bingo machines, works closely with the communities where it is present via its charity arm - the FBM Foundation. FBM has a strong presence in the Philippines and naturally it aims to have a positive social impact there. For example the FBM Foundation kicked off 2023 with the Bayanihan para sa kababayan program, with the goal to assist Filipino communities in disadvantageous situations. The first of many activities from the new program was to distribute essential goods to the over 500 families impacted by a fire incident in Quiapo,Manila at the end of last year.

THE LOTTERY OFFICE

Australia’s The Lottery Office takes CSR seriously and regularly gives to local charities and communities. Each time a player purchases a ticket with the

company, a percentage of the ticket sale price goes to The Lottery Office Charity Fund. Since its launch in 2018, The Lottery Office Charity Fund has already made a difference to Australians in need of a helping hand, and the list of charities it supports continues to grow. To date, The Lottery Office has raised over $1 million in charitable funds.

SJM HOLDINGS

SJM Holdings and its employees are dedicated to supporting education, arts and culture, sports and other charitable events which benefit the residents of Macau. Notable CSR initiatives from the past 12 months include around 8,000 employees and their families taking part in the offline and online Macau Community Chest “Walk for a Million” annual event, to which the company also donated MOP600,000 (US$74,180). The company also awards scholarships, worth MOP10,000 (US$1,200) each, to students every year. In 2022 SJM also demonstrated its commitment to green development and showcased a series of effective measures that it has implemented across its properties, to promote sustainable development of the environment.

THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has become a major social partner in fostering a caring and inclusive community in Hong Kong. Over the past decade, the Club’s Charities Trust has donated an average of HK$4.5bn (US$573m) a year to the community. In 2021/22, its total donations were HK$6.6bn (US$841m), benefiting 292 charity and community projects. A few notable projects from last year include supporting the HKSAR Government’s Strive and Rise Program which aims to help the development of students from low-income families, distributing gift pack to the underprivileged as part of the “Celebrations for All” campaign, in addition to making a HK$630m (US$80m) donation to said campaign.
