Wilcox County 4-H holds Spring Awards Banquet Approximately 140 guests enjoyed an evening in "4-H Wonderland" on May 29, 2014 as the 4-H'er's were recognized for their hard work in the past year's accomplishments. The theme for the banquet this year was taken from Alice in Wonderland and converted to "4-H'ers in Wonderland". The senior officers and board members were dressed in full character. The awards were given to all program areas of 4-H and all that we do. The shooting sports included the Project S.A.F.E. BB Team, the Project S.A.F.E. .22 Rimfire Team, the Project S.A.F.E. Shotgun Team, and the Project S.A.F.E. Air Pistol Team. The Livestock Show Teams including the Dairy Showmen, The Hog Show Team, and The Poultry Judging Team. Another area that was showcased was the District Project Achievement participants in Cloverleaf DPA and in Junior/Senior DPA Competition. The Senior 4-H'ers were recognized with a small gift and presented with their green and white 4-H graduation cord. This year our seniors were Malik Grace, Halle Peacock, Trenton Quigg, and Ruben Schaapman. There were several awards given to the 4-H'ers and volunteers who are such an important part of our program. In the shooting sports category we had a new award this year, the "Bubba Weldon Award". This is award was established for the hard work and dedication that Mr. Bubba has given to our shooting sports program for many, many years! It was also in memory of his mother who passed away in 2013. The recipient of the first "Bubba Weldon Award" was Emilee Munger, a fifth grader who is definitely a rising star in the BB Program. Other awards presented included the Mary Katherine Barentine Scholarship which was given to Eric Miller. Congratulations Eric and the best of luck to you in your future endeavors. Also awarded was the "Friend of 4-H Award" and that was given to Oliver Farms for their many years of financial support to our program. Thank you Clint & Jennifer Oliver, Clay & Valerie Oliver, Sue Powers, and Jurice Oliver. The infamous "You Rock Award" that the senior 4-H'ers established many years ago went to a senior 4-H'er that graduated this year, Mailk Grace AND an additional "rock" was given to Tim Smith, Wilcox County CEC. Congratulations to you all and Thank You for another great year in Wilcox County 4-H!
