Wilcox County PASS Program Seeks New 21st Century Grant In 2010, the Wilcox County School System applied for and received a21st Century Community Learning Centers Program (CCLC) Grant. Through the PASS program, the grant has provided academic support and enrichment activities for at risk students in our school district. The original grant was for a period of three years; was extended an additional year and will end June 30, 2014. In the spring of 2014, the Wilcox County School System submitted a new grant proposal to continue the Patriot Academy for School Success. If approved, the PASS program will receive funding for a five year period. Though we have received encouraging reports, we will not receive official notification until July, if the grant has been approved. Feedback for the program continues to be positive and students have received many opportunities to improve academic performance. Students receive remedial instruction through small groups and individual tutoring. High school students have access to credit repair and credit recovery sessions which have been highly successful in allowing students to stay on track for graduation. In addition to academic support, students are exposed to enrichment programs such as speakers, cultural events, educational field trips and special celebrations. These are essential elements in the complete educational process of our students. Families are included in a variety of monthly programs. Families have attended field trips, seasonal celebrations, student performances, nutritional workshops and classroom activities throughout the year. These activities have been expanded through the support of our business leaders and partner contributions. We are grateful for a supportive and caring community and depend on their continued participation if we receive grant approval.
