"Summer Fun Days at the 4-H Office" will hold a 100 Year Celebration on July 8th, 2014 at the Wilcox County Ag-Center from 11:00am until 2:00pm. There will be old fashioned games such as hopscotch, jump rope, drop the handkerchief, games of marbles, apple bobbing and many more. There will also be a cake walk, Bingo, and checkers for parents and grandparents that wish to stay and we hope you do! Come on out an help us celebrate 100 Years of Extension! There will be grilled hot dogs for lunch and everything is FREE. The original date was planned for July 10th but due to a conflict in scheduling we had to move back to July 8th! Photos Needed for Vietnam War Program The Traveling Vietnam Wall, a moving version of the Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C., is coming to South Georgia in Sept. 4-7. The Wall Committee needs pictures of Wendell D. McBurrows and Thomas W. Staley Jr. for the official program for the wall's appearance. These men are Wilcox County veterans who were killed in Vietnam during the war. Please email pictures to WiregrassFarmer@yahoo.com . As part of the appearance of the Wall, Wilcox County will have a delegation to present a wreath for the Wilcox County display at the Wall. The Wall will be set up in Ashburn just off Exit 82. There is no charge to see the exhibits. No drinks, other than water, no cell phones and no music are allowed in the area immediately around the wall. We joined the rest of the campers from across South Georgia for a total of 117 youth! We had a week full of friendly competitions with the "Color Crews" for the title of the winner of the infamous Fortson Cup. The theme for Fortson 4-H Center is race car/race track related and the "teams" are divided into color racing crews. The "Purple Crew" won the cup which included 3 of our campers! Congratulations Carlee, Kaleb, and Mason! The week was spent with days packed with team building challenges, classes including herpetology and forest tree identification, swimming and night swimming, zip lining, rock wall climbing, canoeing, archery, and much more. And that was just on camp site days! Other days were spent at Whitewater Water Park, Stone Mountain and the Stone Mountain Laser Show, and the Atlanta Motor Speedway! Unfortunately, the race was called due to inclement weather. Hopefully there will be better weather for the rest of the camping season! We would like to thank our awesome teen leader also who helped keep the campers going strong all week, thank you Katie Caruso! The 4-H'ers attending Cloverleaf Camp this year were: Clare Cannon, Jackson Clements, Grace Coleman, De'Ambreon Daniels, Grace Lawson, Neil Louthan, Maci Martin, Cam McBryde, Jessie Nichols, Maggie Peacock, Tristen Peacock, Mason Satterfield, Carlee Jo Sercer, Kaleb Smith and teen leader Katie Caruso. County Extension Coordinator Tim Smith and 4-H Associate Sara Sercer also joined the campers for a week full of fun.
