Dogwood Garden Club
This past year the Dogwood Garden Club has made many contributions to, not only to the Rochelle community, but to the state as well. During Christmas the club donated $450 to the Department of Family and Children Services to purchase toys for qualifying children. Also at Christmas the club sends beautifully decorated Christmas stockings with $1 in each to Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. Each month members do a table arrangement at Northside Villa which all the residents there enjoy. The concrete planters downtown on the sidewalk are replenished, watered and fertilized by each member. The club also voted to contribute to the Garden Club of Georgia Scholarship fund for tuition for a deserving student. Two long time and fateful members past away during the year and with each one not only was a memorial given to their favorite charity, but Norma Chastain remembered each one in a special way. One was a program on Easter Lilies and then she sent each member home with a lily. Another was an avid bird watcher so she made pine cone feeders and sent one home with those present. Programs were exceptional this year. One was on mason jars with their history and many uses...candle votives, vases that were mirrored with looking glass paint, some covered with bark for that natural look, some wrapped with pearls fro the feminine touch, and refreshments served in the jars. A program was presented on the 3 B’s - butterflies, bees, and birds - with each having an FOR RENT - 185 important part with cross pollination. The many uses and different kinds of baskets showed from a Acres of irrigated member’s collection made for an interesting program. Church arrangements were the theme of farm land. She told how the Peachtree United Methodist 425-4159. church ladies work each week several days to have their arrangements stunning when Sunday comes. There were ten tables with each carrying out a theme such as beach (sand and shells), a romantic Valentine table with candles and wine, then Easter with bunnies and eggs. A picnic table with a basket, lemons for lemonade and fresh greenery made you want to step outside by the water to eat. There was a Mardi Gras table with masks, candles and peacock feathers. Lastly there was a Christmas table with gold balls, lanterns and candles. A delicious Christmas luncheon was served to all members at the Chastain home. With appetites satisfied, we all left with crocheted topped Santa Clause bottles. The Dogwood Garden Club sells dogwood trees each February to help beautify the county. Noteworthy yards in the area earn the Garden of the Month sign placed in their yard. Some of those this year were Jack and Norma Chastain, Matt and Janice Estes, Bob and Myra McGuinty, Bob Nobles, James and Sue Lee, Tommie Kelley, Colony Bank and Frazier and Son Funeral Home.

We congratulate these students for achieving this outstanding accomplishment. The students are pictured wearing their Middle Georgia EMC Touchstone Energy “Student of the Month” t-shirts.
The Rochelle Woodman of the World Lodge Unit 1853 presented gift bags of candy, crackers, gum, honey buns, etc to Rochelle Fire Chief Wayne McGuinty, Mayor James Rhodes and City employees, Wilcox County EMT's Jeff Creech and Ashley Hamptom and to Rochelle Police Department. We appreciate all the hard work and services they provide to the citizens of Rochelle and Wilcox County.
