Wilcox County 4-H'ers attend Ag-Day at the Capitol It's National Agriculture Week and to celebrate, five Wilcox County Senior 4-H'ers attended Ag-Day at the Georgia Freight Depot in Atlanta located next door to the capitol. We were treated food samples from numerous vendors from the Food Festival and Flavor of the South vendors that were at the depot for competition. There were vendors from all over the state of Georgia including our own Clay & Valerie Oliver of Oliver Farm Infused Sunflower Oil. We stopped for a photo op with the Oliver's and State Representative Buddy Harden. The 4H'ers enjoyed the day in Atlanta. Wilcox County hosts County BB Match Once again, the BB's were flying at the Wilcox County Ag-Center on March 7th, 2015. Twentyfive shooters make up this year's Wilcox County Project S.A.F.E. BB Team. They are Ryan Addison, Chase Calhoun, Jackson Clements, Caroline Clifton, Grace Coleman, Emma Culpepper, Clark Gaines, Nolan Gaines, Thomas Harper, Trace Jones, Cam McBryde, Judge McDonald, Emilee Munger, Gracie Paramore, Kassi Payne, Tristen Peacock, Mollie Shed, Ryan Stephens, Tyler Stephens, Faith Stokesberry, Macy Stokesberry, Lori Sutton, Shawn Sutton, Judson Terry, and Madison Terry. The children are coached by Dennis Shedd, Tracey Terry and Bubba Weldon. Awards were given to the top three shooters in each position. Receiving first place in Prone Position was Clark Gaine, 2nd place Thomas Harper, 3rd place Mollie Shedd. In the Standing position, 1st place went to Thomas Harper, 2nd place Mollie Shedd and 3rd place Clark Gaines. The first place in Sitting went to Clark Gaines, 2nd Cam McBryde, and 3rd Emilee Munger. And the Kneeling position first place was awarded to Madison Terry, 2nd place Mollie Shedd and 3rd place was Emilee Munger. For the overall shooter top three places, the first place winner was Clark Gaines, M2nd place was Mollie Shedd and 3rd place went to Thomas Harper. Along with the shooting abilities, the shooters must take a written test. This year the top three scorers for the test was 1st place Clark Gaines108, 2nd place Madison Terry-104, and 3rd place was Macy Stokesberry100. Congratulations to ALL shooters, you all did an awesome job of shooting! Ricky Land served as long time coach and very involved volunteer for the BB team in Wilcox County several years ago. His son was a champion shooter during his 5th thru 8th grade years. Unfortunately Ricky was stricken with cancer a few years ago and lost his battle in July of 2013. This year the first annual "Ricky Land Memorial" trophy was given to Clark Gaines, overall shooter. This is the beginning of the Ricky Land Memorial trophy and will be awarded to the overall shooter each year during the county match. Sherrie Land and family were present for the award.
